You Can't Make This Dumb Shit Up- Bobby Lashley Reveals That WWE Once Wanted To Give Him A "Mr. T" Gimmick

Bobby Lashley and Lana's wedding ceremony ended 2019 as their story with Rusev has become one of the biggest parts of Monday Night RAW. Paul Heyman via his backstage role on RAW has been instrumental in building this storyline, and Lashley was asked by Sports Illustrated about his relationship with Heyman.

"When I first started out, I came to OVW in 2004. There were a lot of different people who came through, and they were bringing different trainers and different writers putting the show together," Lashley said. "I remember when Paul Heyman first came, he called me up in the morning and said, 'Hey man, what are you doing? Let's go eat breakfast.' I'd never met Paul at this point, but we go and eat breakfast. It was unbelievable, we were there talking for four hours. I felt like I'd known him forever."

Lashley mentioned how writers were looking at a Mr. T gimmick for him.

"I didn't know this at the time, but Paul saw me–this big, jacked up dude–and didn't know me. And none of the other writers knew who I was. They were just writing on what they thought they knew of me–that I should be like Mr. T and run around like, 'I pity the fool!' But that's not me. And that's why Paul wanted to sit down and talk," Lashley said. "He knew he needed to write for this guy, but he didn't know who I was, and he wasn't going to just guess. So we just sat and talked forever, and he said, 'I get this guy.' And he got me over in a short amount of time.

"I'm a very subtle person. I come from a background where you shut up, you train, and you compete. That's what Paul saw, and everything he did from then on was highlighting who I was, not trying to put me in a box that didn't fit. That's why I was so excited when he came [as the Executive Director of Monday Night Raw], because I knew he gets me, could write for me, and put me in the right position and place on the show."

COURT DATE SET IN DEATH OF NYC INDEPENDENT WRESTLER MATT TRAVIS

Luc Vu, the man arrested following the death New York City independent wrestler Matt "Travis" Palacios, has a court date in New York Criminal Court on 2/7.  Luc has been charged with reckless driving, failure to yield to a bicyclist, failure to obey a traffic device, drive left of pavement marking and failure to exercise due care.

Palacios was struck while traveling on a bike path in East Harlem about 2:30 AM on Saturday 11/9 when a dump truck driver made an illegal left u-turn to get onto the Willis Avenue Bridge.  Travis was struck and although rushed to the hospital, suffered serious trauma and was pronounced dead when he arrived.

It is not yet clear whether Vu was aware he struck Travis.  Vu was driving for D&A Contracting, which fired him upon learning of his arrest.

“I’m shocked, happy and depressed at the same time,” said Palacios' mother, Yolanda Nieves to StreetblogNYC last month.  “I was so depressed without my son. [Vu] should pay for what he did to my child — if it was a mistake he could have said he was sorry, but I haven’t heard any apologies.”  Nieves told Streetblog she felt she had been kept in the dark during the investigation.

Travis, who was returning home from professional wrestling training when he was struck was only 25 years old.    He had been wrestling regularly for House of Glory, CZW and other promotions in the Northeast.

Hardys Status With WWE

Matt Hardy's current WWE deal expires on 3/1, so if he does not come to terms on a new deal, he would be free to appear anywhere on that date.    Hardy has obviously been preparing for a potential exit with his "Release the Delete" videos online and we are told that the major hurdle between the two sides is how he would be used going forward, not money.

Jeff Hardy's deal will not expire at the same time as it has been held up at times due to his legal issues and injuries.  Hardy has a hearing on 1/13 on his DWI arrest last year.  We are told that WWE has pushed Hardy to address his personal health in the wake of the arrest and Hardy has been working hard at doing so.

Latest Example Of Why Engaging With Marks Today Is Useless.. They're Just This Dumb & Lazy

I've cut down on engaging or talking with a lot of today's marks because they usually come off being lazy, and when you tel them (especially if they're already ON the YouTube site) to do the footwork and see for themselves, they wind up calling ME lazy. They, like this idiot I'm about to show you, actually thinks he's important enough that I should just hand things to him.. Instead he keeps riding on the fact I'm allegedly lazy when in fact I told him to do the footwork. He's right there, why can't he do it himself? Cause he's a lazy mark, that's why..

So he instead falls for the oldest trick in the book of making him self look even more dumb by replying to me constantly trying to milk his lame little argument. If he spent half as much time replying to me and looking like a dipshit doing the footwork, he'd get smartened up. Maybe he's just that stupid he knows he just CAN'T be smartened up. So this is all he thinks he has to make himself look "big and tough" when in fact he just makes himself look like a dumb fuck.

Least marks back in the day were alittle smarter than the ones around now. Here's the latest example why I don't engage with marks, they always react the same way and are always seemingly too lazy to do anything, but reply to me.

PPW High Voltage - Episode 111

PPW High Voltage is back for another new episode this Sunday at 8PM!! “The Lit Superstar” Sebastian Cage comes back to Hazleton after scoring a victory in his debut against Andy Header at PPW Full Moon. Cage returns to take on another tall challenge in Mantequilla. With friend KC Navarro in Cage's corner can the “Lit Superstar” score a victory over a man desperately needing a victory in PPW? For Mantequilla, its been no secret that he has been on a rough patch lately. With a victory over Sebastian Cage, Mantequilla could use it as a platform to start building some momentum that he desperately needs going into the new year. Elsewhere, the SAMBO show will be in action. Sambo Show looking to continue their winning ways as they continue to climb up the PPW Tag Team division. A few months ago Sent to Slaughter lost the titles when Mane Event cashed in at the end of the match. SAMBO show (along with Punk Rock All Stars) were apart of that plan. In our PPW Reewind segment, we go back to September 2018 at the Hazleton YWCA where KC Navarro and Evander James got together in a great match that must be seen again. And in our Main Event the Women take the spotlight as Veda Scott, Adena Steele, the debuting Dani Mo and the PPW Women's Champion Christina Marie tangle for the PPW Women's Championship.

JJ DILLON JOINS BOARD OF INTERNATIONAL PRO WRESTLING HALL OF FAME IN NEW YORK

The International Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame issued the following:

J.J. Dillon joins IPWHF Board of Directors

The International Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame is pleased to announce that James J. Dillon, renowned professional wrestling manager and longtime industry executive, will serve on the IPWHF Board of Directors. Dillon will participate in a "meet and greet" event to benefit the IPWHF on February 8 in Syracuse, NY (event details below).

Few people are more revered in professional wrestling than J.J. Dillon. An accomplished wrestler in his own right, Dillon later thrived as a manager of top talent, including the elite stable known as the Four Horsemen. In that role, Dillon guided legends such as Ric Flair, Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard in main-event matches around the world.

“J.J. Dillon's record of success as a top-tier industry leader will benefit the International Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame and help propel our organization forward," said Seth Turner, President of the IPWHF. "We needed a manager -- so we go the best in the business.”

As a member of the IPWHF Board, J. J. Dillon will contribute his immense knowledge and experience gained over a lifetime working in the professional wrestling industry. This includes many years in executive positions at Jim Crockett Promotions, the World Wrestling Federation, and World Championship Wrestling.

Dillon began his ring career in 1960 as a referee for the World Wide Wrestling Federation, the precursor of today's WWE. However, it wasn’t until a match in 1968 against Ron and Chris Dupree, a team called the Hell’s Angels, that he considered himself a professional wrestler. During the 1970s and early 1980s, Dillon wrestled in territories around the United States and Canada, and made tours of Japan.

In 1980s, Dillon began to work “in the office" and served as assistant to Dusty Rhodes, who was then the "booker" at Jim Crockett Promotions (part of the National Wrestling Alliance). In 1989, Dillon joined the World Wrestling Federation (known today as WWE) as an in-house agent. Then, in 1996, he joined World Championship Wrestling where he also had an on-screen role as WCW Commissioner. Dillon continued with WCW until the company was acquired five years later.

J.J. Dillon will serve alongside other internationally recognized wrestling stars on the IPWHF Board of Directors, including Rocky Johnson, whose position on the board was announced earlier this month. Additional board members will be named in the coming days who, like Dillon and Johnson, will apply their unparalleled industry experience to help build the International Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame.

Stay up to date on IPWHF news by visiting www.ipwhf.org and signing up for our email list. Subscribers are the first to receive news releases and event information.

Meet and Greet with J.J. Dillon, Feb. 8, Syracuse, NY

Wrestling fans can meet J.J. Dillon for an autograph signing and photo opportunity on February 8, 2020, at ThinkGeek in the Destiny USA mall, from 10:30am-12:30pm. All proceeds from this event will benefit the International Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame. The event is hosted by Scott Wilder Promotions. Advance tickets and further event details are available at www.ipwhf.org/events.

About IPWHF:

The International Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame received approval from the New York State Board of Regents on December 10, 2019. The organization is committed to promoting and preserving the history and culture of professional wrestling, including the many contributions by wrestlers and individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures. Get A Load Of This Bullshit- Triple H Talks Independent Promotions Going Out Of Business Due To WWE's Expansion

In recent years WWE has locked down partnerships with various independent promotions around the world including Evolve and PROGRESS. WWE is judicious about who it partners with as there's a certain standard that must be met with those other companies.
Triple H was asked about talent working in other places when he joined Corey Graves' podcast.
"I think all of that is important in that feeder system of what the business is. People misunderstood I think even when we went to the UK and what we were trying to accomplish there because of small thinking or short-sightedness. Yes, some of these indies are going to go away. The ones that are going to go away are the ones that were paying you $25 when they promised you $75," said Triple H. "The ones that have a ring that didn't hold up. The ones that didn't have medical there. The ones that didn't care about you and were only booking you because you had a little bit of buzz that were hoping to sell some tickets and didn't care what you did as long as you did it.
"We wanted to work with the ones that were cultivating talent. The ones that were encouraging them to become better; working with them on promos, giving them guidance on their matches; right or wrong, but that had the equipment that was functioning. That had medical care so that even if you were injured you weren't just laying there for 45 minutes to try to figure out whether an ambulance was going to come or call you an Uber. All those things were important to us and were the companies that we started to partner with and we let work for and I think it's done just that."
Triple H reiterated that the promotions that don't do things the right way will fade out because the talent is now sophisticated enough to avoid working for places like that.
"From my understanding and what I hear the system has changed a lot. There's a lot more of the sort of policing it and the talent being able to police it because they are not allowed to work for the ones that can't do it. Those companies don't last while others do last and for all the right reasons they are thriving and others aren't," stated Triple H.

AEW Hires Arn Anderson

AEW sent us the following press release:

Cody Hires Wrestling Legend Arn Anderson as Personal Advisor and Head Coach for 2020 Season
(December 30, 2019) –Since AEW exploded onto the wrestling scene just one year ago, it has consistently dazzled fans with its groundbreaking shows, world-class roster, inclusive attitude and impactful announcements. To wrap AEW’s inaugural year, Cody today announced that legendary wrestler Arn Anderson will be Cody’s personal advisor and head coach for the 2020 season, starting with the New Year’s Day DYNAMITE show in Jacksonville, Fla
A member of the world-renowned Four Horsemen and Dangerous Alliance, Anderson holds multiple tag team titles and was a longtime road agent for some of wrestling’s biggest stars. This past August, Anderson made a surprise appearance at ALL OUT when he nailed Cody’s opponent, Shawn Spears, with his signature spinebuster. Cody ultimately defeated Spears, who is coached by Anderson’s Four Horsemen teammate Tully Blanchard.

Anderson will be ringside with Cody as he begins the 2020 season with a rematch against Darby Allin on Wednesday, Jan. 1, at Daily’s Place in Jacksonville. Back in June, Cody and Allin fought to a time-limit draw at FYTER FEST. Cody granted Allin a rematch with the stipulation that Allin team up with him against The Butcher and The Blade. Cody and Allin emerged victorious, and are now on opposite sides of the ring in this highly anticipated match-up.

“2019 was the most successful year I’ve had in pro-wrestling,” said Cody, EVP of AEW. “Beyond the superfluous financial, it’s been incredibly rewarding on a spiritual level to be able to engage so many fans with a like-minded place in their hearts for the sport.

“That said, one of my greatest fears came true as I lost the opportunity to wrestle for the World Championship again. But, on the other side of that fear is freedom to chase every other accolade outside of that title. I still want to collect all the accolades I can and dominate the singles division. That’s why I’m bringing in Arn Anderson as my personal advisor and head coach. He has been in business with my family for over three decades. Having been a wrestler throughout so many different generations of talent, he understands what ingredients it takes to look beyond the horizon and produce the best content and results.”

SKY SPORTS SAYS 'SEE YA' TO WWE

Sky Sports posted the following:

Mat Memory- The Joker Sting Saga

In 2011, after being pushed to the edge by Mr. Anderson (as well as Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff), Sting snapped and became... Joker Sting. Joker Sting was a new twist on his persona. He was a crazed, maniacal version of the Stinger who was focused on one goal - bringing down the Eric Bischoff led Hollywood version of Hulk Hogan, and getting him to return to who HE was back in the 80's. Cody Rhodes' Trademark Filing For "Dusty Rhodes" Rejected

AEW Executive Vice President Cody Rhodes recently filed to trademark the name of his late father, WWE Hall of Famer Dusty Rhodes, but the filing has been rejected for an unexpected reason.

Cody's legal team spoke with Pro Wrestling Sheet about the filing and it was noted that they are confident that this will not be a problem in the end.

It was revealed back in November that the trademark filing looked to be a done deal but the USPTO (United States Patent & Trademark Office) issued a refusal last week because the name is too similar to Dustin Rhodes, a trademark already owned by Dusty's oldest son and current AEW star.

The filing states the following:

"Here, the marks share one term, "RHODES", and a highly similar term 'DUSTY/DUSTIN', and share the same overall commercial impression of that of a surname and given name, respectively. Given the high similarity in appearance, sound, and meaning of the marks, the marks are confusingly similar."

The ruling also notes that both filings relating to the use description of "entertainment services, namely, wrestling exhibits and performances by a professional wrestler and entertainer" could also cause some confusion.

Cody's lawyer told Pro Wrestling Sheet that they are discussing the appropriate steps to take next in order to acquire the trademark. They are confident that they will still be able to secure the trademark.

PWS notes that it looks like Cody's team has two options - to file an appeal, or get approval from the owner of the registration that is causing the trademark to be rejected.

As noted recently at this link, Cody revealed on Twitter that he gave permission to WWE to use Dusty's name for their 2020 Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic in WWE NXT. The details of that tournament will be announced next Wednesday.

NJPW NO LONGER AIRING ON AXS TV

Five years after their relationship began, New Japan Pro Wrestling and AXS TV will go their separate ways starting in 2020.
NJPW tweeted Friday they have no further plans to broadcast matches, including Wrestle Kingdom, in the U.S. outside their New Japan World streaming service. AXS confirmed NJPW will no longer air on their network.
The two sides came together on a deal in late-2014 for 13 episodes of their World Pro Wrestling show that previously aired on TV Asahi with Mauro Ranallo (later Jim Ross) and Josh Barnett doing the English commentary. The viewership was so strong that they extended their deal for several years and extended to re-broadcasts of big events and some live shows as well.
With availability in 50 million homes, the American TV version was a key driver in NJPW's increased popularity stateside where they have increased touring in recent years and will continue to do so in 2020.
In September, a majority interest in AXS was purchased by Anthem Sports & Entertainment, the parent company of Impact Wrestling who is expected to get the focus now that NJPW is gone. AXS has also aired Women of Wrestling, a group that features Tessa Blanchard, since January of 2019.

Arn Anderson On Working For Vince McMahon, WWE Creative Problems, Producer Duties, More

As seen above, WWE Hall of Famer Arn Anderson recently discussed his WWE release during a Q&A segment on his "ARN" podcast with co-host Conrad Thompson. Anderson talked about how hard it was working for WWE Chairman & CEO Vince McMahon, and how there's somewhat of a feeling from some of a Producers vs. Creative atmosphere.
Arn asked when he knew his time with WWE was coming to an end.
"Probably 4 years," Arn revealed. "Somewhere in there, before I got canned. I was getting blamed for stuff that was perceived to be my fault, that wasn't my fault. My opinion was not valued. You know... something I'm not sure that everybody knows, and I'm sure they don't... besides our duties on the road, when you're a Producer and you're traveling all those miles and going out on Friday, and sometimes driving 1,000 miles before you get to RAW, and then you got another couple 300 that night, and you drive, and you gotta be there early for SmackDown.
"On top of all that, they would send the show [script] out, sometimes on Sunday night. So after you had already put in 1,000 miles, you had already did a show, you had driven to RAW, however far that was. Then you would get an e-mail, and you would have to critique the show, have to read through a three-hour RAW, give your opinions, suggestions. Same thing with SmackDown. Now it doesn't matter that it's 4 in the morning and you're dead tired. But that's all the Producers."
Arn continued and talked about how the suggestions from the Producers were never used, and said most of the WWE content from the last 4 years did not come from the Producers.
"Very rarely in those last 4 years was anything that anyone of us had offered, because you would get a sheet with the Producer suggestions, and names that go by with them, and they never would use any of those suggestions. and I knew my opinion was no longer valued. And you would speak up, it would be taken the wrong way, it was almost like it was Creative vs. the Producers, which was the farthest thing from the truth. We were doing all we could to support their ideas. A lot of them we disagreed with and we'd voice it, and then we'd get kicked around the room, but by the time it got back to the beginning, it was just what was written originally. I just felt like the last 4 years, it was... I always kinda felt like I was one of those, 'You WCW guys.' I always felt that way," Arn revealed.
Thompson asked Arn if he felt like an outsider in WWE, and he did. Arn also said he didn't want to be in the inner circle of Vince and Triple H, and commented on how he was blamed for problems with several high-profile WWE matches.
"Yeah, outsider looking in," Arn responded. "Even though in total, 18 years with the company, you would think my loyalty would be unquestionable, and I just felt like an outsider, on the outside looking in. I never was comfortable, I never was in that... and to be honest with you, I didn't want to be in that inner circle with my head up Vince's ass, or Hunter's [Triple H] ass, or any of those guys' ass around. I just wanted to do my job, help the talent the best I could, take the ideas that the creative came up with, whether I agreed or not agreed with it, try to make it work the best I could, and I just... you know, I was getting my head taken off.
"Some things that weren't my fault, and several different big matches, and something that we don't have time to really discuss here, because it'd take too long, but it'd just... you know, I was made to feel suddenly like I didn't know anything about the business anymore. It was like I was suddenly inept. That all that knowledge I had acquired over the years, and all the rules, and all the things I knew applied, didn't apply anymore. And you know, you feel pretty stupid after a while, after getting hit over the head with that, 'Oh, that's stupid. Oh, that's stupid. Oh, that doesn't make any sense. Oh, that doesn't make any sense.' I start to believe it."
Thompson asked Arn who was the one saying these things to him, about what is stupid and what doesn't make sense.
"Well who would've been the only guy that could've gotten away with it?," Arn asked.
"I assume Vince," Thompson responded.
"Yeah, of course," Arn said. "Because that's all that mattered at the end of the day. It was an audience of one who we were performing for, across the board. Which was told to us guys. 'You only have to please an audience of one.' And we know who the audience of one is. So, if you're not trying to give the audience what they want, if you're just trying to tip-toe around what you know he wants and requires, it's a difficult mine-field. It really is."
Arn left WWE back in February of this year after working behind-the-scenes for 18 years with the company. It was reported that Arn was released after he allowed an intoxicated Alicia Fox to wrestle at a WWE live event, but Arn later spoke about being unhappy and noted that he was under a non-disclosure.
Arn made his AEW debut at their All Out pay-per-view in late August, working an angle with Cody Rhodes by hitting a Spinebuster on Shawn Spears, who had sided with fellow-Horseman Tully Blanchard. Arn also did guest commentary work for the November 6 AEW Dark tapings in Charlotte, NC, which aired on November 12. There have been rumors of The Enforcer working behind-the-scenes for AEW at some point, and AEW President & CEO Tony Khan has indicated that he would like to see more of Arn in the company.
