The Whining Babies Over At WWE Reportedly Caused MLW Streaming Deal To Get Nixed

I guess the WWE knows MLW has a way better product than they do, which is why they went snitching, bitching and whining to FOX about the deal.

I thought in the "WWE Universe" they don't HAVE any competition, LOL. Guess what they say and how they react will always be two different things, eh?

Too bad instead of paying attention to what other companies wanna do, they don't spend this much time and effort trying to make their OWN shitty product more watchable.

Guess that makes just WAY TOO MUCH sense, eh? We do know that logic and common sense doesn't exist in the WWE "Universe', LOL.

Here's the story.

WWE’s reaction to a streaming deal that MLW had lined up has led to the deal being nixed.

A new report from Fightful Select notes that MLW had a deal in the works with the Tubi streaming service, which is owned by FOX. Word is that the deal was to be announced publicly in August, but WWE learned of it beforehand, and a source close to FOX revealed that WWE did not respond favorably to the deal, which was to be announced imminently after WWE was made aware.

Due to WWE’s acting like little bitches about it with their lame and weak ass response, the future of the MLW – Tubi deal was put into question. The report stated that WWE/FOX nixed the MLW – Tubi streaming deal.

When asked for comment on the story, WWE and MLW did not respond,(of course they didn't) and FOX declined to comment (of course they didn't, doesn't come as much of a surprise as they didn't it to be made public, obviously). At one time MLW had archived content on Tubi, but it appears they are no longer on the service. (Gee, ya think?)

It’s been reported that FOX wasn’t happy with NBCUniversal’s Peacock streaming service being promoted on their network during WWE programming. When reaching out to a WWE source in regards to FOX not being happy about Peacock promotion, it was noted that had FOX wanted to pay for the rights to WWE pay-per-views to turn the tables, they could have bid for them to air on Fox’s Tubi platform. FOX sources reiterated that while there were some in the company who likely shared that same frustration, they were happy to help promote major events on FOX platforms because “what’s good for the goose is good for the gander.”

While it appears that there is at least some coexistence between NBCU’s Peacock and USA Network, it was noted by Andrew Zarian of Mat Men that Peacock did not allow FOX or USA Network’s social media teams to post videos from the WWE SummerSlam pay-per-view. Instead, they were limited to using only GIFs.

On a related note, a source at Peacock noted that WWE’s performance on the streaming service appears to be exceptional, with more eyes landing on WWE pay-per-view events than ever before. It was also said that the relationship between the two sides seems good. There has been strong criticism within WWE over how the Peacock platform that they moved to is less polished and less user-friendly than the WWE Network they moved from was. There were significant resources put into hiring staffers to optimize SEO for the WWE Network, but word is that the policies for Network content would change from day-to-day, and by the time the WWE Network ended in the United States, it still wasn’t fully optimized.

The Undertaker Explains Why He Will Never Wrestle Again

WWE legend The Undertaker sat down with Entertainment Tonight to promote his new Netflix interactive film, Escape The Undertaker. Undertaker described the fun he had filming the movie, which started with him having to find his gear.

“First I had to find all the stuff. It was, no pun intended, dead and buried,” Undertaker said. “It was a lot of fun. I had never heard, personally, of an interactive movie before. So it was completely new to me, which is always fun being involved in something new and learning stuff. But I really had a good time. It was a hectic workload to get it done in the time we had to get it done. And really not knowing how the product was going to come out and how it was going to resonate with people. We had a lot of fun doing it, but that stuff felt pretty good.”

Undertaker was asked what drew him to the idea of the film. He explained that the interactive aspect of the film and the ability for fans to go back and make several choices on how it goes was what appealed to him the most.

"I was just intrigued,” Undertaker said. “The way it was presented to me, and like I said, the interactive part was the most intriguing to me, knowing the audience would make important decisions in how the movie turns out and what happens to the New Day at the end. That really captivated my interest to see ‘well this could turn out so many different ways.’ And then you start thinking about it, and you start hoping ‘well if they play it one way and they choose this decision, are they going to come back and want to do it again and see what happens?’ It was just a really cool concept to me.”

One thing Undertaker did admit to was being unsure of how working with the New Day (Big E, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods) would translate to the film’s concept, having only limited interactions with them previously. Int he end he thought their energy contrasted with his persona very well.

“I worked with them a little in the ring, but I never had a program or really spent a lot of time being creative with them,” Undertaker said. “I think what was really the coolest part of it is their energy, right? They have this dynamic, positive energy. And then you put that in contrast to The Undertaker, which is obviously a dark force and I was a little leery at the beginning when I’m thinking you know, conceptually ‘is it going to be too funny or will it take The Undertaker too far out of his roots?’ But it was just the opposite. Their energy played against mine so well.”

Undertaker officially retired from WWE last year at the Survivor Series, on the 30th anniversary of his WWE debut. According to him, he will be staying retired, believing he’s no longer physically capable of delivering the high level of performance he once did.

“As of this moment, my days in the ring are done,” Undertaker said. “And it’s not because I don’t want to be in the ring. That’s where I’ve spent most of my adult life, my whole life really has been spent in the wrestling or sports entertainment ring. In my mind I still can see everything and in my heart I want to be out there.

“But it’s at the point where my body can’t deliver what my mind and my heart see. My body can’t deliver that and I just don’t want to cheapen the legacy of that character. And I’d hate for people to pay money to see me work and be disappointed.”

Will Ospreay coming to MLW

Will Ospreay was announced as coming in during last night's Vice TV Fightland TV special.  And for a company like MLW, that's nice game changer as he can and HAS, put asses in seats and has had people watch whatever company's product he appears in. There's been some rumors of Jeff Cobb potentially coming in as well.

MLW Fightland can be watched on Vice TV's On Demand platforms if you have the channel on your cable provider.

New MLW Champion Alexander Hammerstone suffered a badly sprained ankle during his match with Jacob Fatu but gutted through it.  Hammerstone has pulled himself off his bookings this weekend to rest the ankle.

The November MLW return is slated to feature the War Chamber match on 11/6 in Philadelphia.  MLW will skip December in Philly because the 2300 Arena has no open dates for them, (as stated by MLW owner Court Bauer in a recent interview) but will return there in January 2022 and beyond.

Jacob Fatu losing the title is not a sign of him leaving as some "marks" have tried to speculate,  as he's only a few years into a five year agreement with MLW.

There will be a Thanksgiving night airing of MLW Fusion Alpha.

Next week's MLW Fusion: Alpha will be headlined by Mil Muertes vs. Richard Holliday. Holliday is a very under rated wrestler, his indy stuff for like Limitless Wrestling, XWA is worth going out of your way to watch.

JBL And Bully Ray On Issues With Wrestlers Trying To Be Heels In Today’s Pro Wrestling

Current co-host of Busted Open and wrestling legend Bubba Dudley joined fellow wrestling icons Gerald Brisco and JBL for an episode of Stories with Brisco and Bradshaw.

Throughout the interview, the wrestling legends discuss a wide variety of topics, from tag team wrestling, working as a producer and road agent, funny backstage stories, and many more.

During the interview, they discussed tag team wrestlers breaking away from their teams to achieve singles success. It’s something they all know about as all three men themselves each won a multitude of tag team titles, as well as Heavyweight titles.

Bully says he believes JBL sometimes gets lost in the shuffle amongst the notable wrestlers on the list. He notes Shawn Michaels is the name most commonly brought up, but insists that JBL deserves recognition.

“You did something incredible!” exclaims Bubba. “You and [Ron Simmons] were so synonymous with yourselves, and it’s almost like you made people forget about the APA. I don’t think I ever made people forget about the Dudleys. I think what you were able to do was on such a next level. It’s attributed to you embracing that heat, and we know Vince – he lived vicariously through you!”

JBL laughs and says that Ted DiBiase said the same thing about Vince loving to write for his Million Dollar Man character. JBL notes that he knew what Vince was doing and welcomed it.

“I knew when I’d go in there to Vince [that] he was basically writing for himself,” smiles JBL. “’If I could be a heel and I could do this for 300 nights a year, this is what I’d do’.”

Bully notes that JBL succeeded because he was smart enough to embrace the heat and reactions from the fans. He goes on to say that many wrestlers today are not as keen on embracing heat because they are afraid of it, with one notable exception.

“The one kid that sticks out to me right now is MJF in AEW,” shares Bubba. “I think he’s doing a fantastic job.”

JBL adds on to that, saying that many wrestlers are not interested in being a heel on social media. They want to do the traditional crowd work at events, but fail to transition that to digital media. He says wrestlers have no interest in fans harassing them in public.

“They want to play a heel on television and talk about being a heel,” observes JBL. “They don’t want to walk through the airport and be called names. Or have people put up their phones and say, ‘You know, you’re really an a-----e, you’re a bad person’.”

Brisco interjects and agrees with both Bubba and JBL. He then goes on to say that if you are not willing to embrace the heat and negative reactions that come with being a heel, then you will only ever be a mediocre heel.

“If you don’t want to be a heel and you don’t embrace that attitude of being a heel, then you’re not going to be a successful heel,” Brisco says adamantly. “You’re just going to be one of those middle of the road guys that just exist on the middle of the card.”

Later in the interview, JBL notes that all three men are amongst some of the first biracial tag teams to stick together over a long period of time. JBL and Bubba Dudley both famously tagged with Ron Simmons and D-Von Dudley, respectively. Meanwhile, Gerald Brisco also won tag team titles with both Rocky Johnson and Thunderbolt Patterson.

It was more common in the time period of the 1970s, 1980s, and early 1990s to have stereotypical tag teams featuring only one race. JBL notes that despite the historic implications, none of the teams made a big deal about it. Bubba agrees, saying that their races were never of importance in any tag team.

“It was never a big deal,” reflects Bubba. “Ron was [JBL’s] partner, D-Von was my partner, and that’s all it ever was. We were two men on the same journey, two professionals on the same journey with the exact same goals in mind. To make a sh*tload of money and be the best at what we do, and have a blast doing it.”

JBL then goes on to recall a time where WWE wanted to make a special about the APA being one of the first big biracial WWE tag teams, but Ron Simmons refused to take part in it.

“WWE tried to do something one time about [us being] one of the first biracial tag teams in WWE that made it and stayed together for quite some time,” recalls JBL. “And Ron wouldn’t allow it. And I was so glad he wouldn’t. [Ron] said ‘This isn’t about race. This is about two friends. You make it about race then it becomes about race’. [Ron] says, ‘It’s much more important as an example that there’s nothing made about it because there’s nothing to it’.”

During the interview, the three legends also recalled quite a few funny backstage stories. Later in the interview, Bubba tells a story about an elimination triple threat tag team match at a live event between the APA, the Dudley Boyz, and Edge & Christian.

“Michael Hayes was the agent on the house show, which was very odd,” tells Bubba. “Michael really wasn’t on the road with us very often. Normally it was Jack Lanza. In the three-way, we had to eliminate the APA first, and the Dudleys were going to eliminate the APA.

“And Michael said, ‘Hey Ron, how about the Dudleys give you the 3-D on the floor?’

“And Ron looked at him and went, ‘F*ck you, Michael’.”

All three men laugh hysterically, then JBL chimes in to finish the story.

"Yeah,” smiles JBL. “Then Michael goes, ‘Okay, maybe we’ll take it on John’ [laughs].”

New Champions Crowned At MLW's Fightland

On tonight’s presentation of MLW Fightland on Vice TV, Yoshihiro Tajiri captured the MLW World Middleweight Championship in his debut match.

In the four-way match between former champion Myron Reed, Arez and Aramis, Tajiri distracted Reed by spraying green mist in his eyes before hitting his signature buzzsaw kick for the victory.

Also tonight, Alex Hammerstone is now the new MLW World Heavyweight Champion after overcoming Jacob Fatu in a celebrated Title vs. Title match on tonight’s special episode of Fightland on Vice TV. This is his first reign with the World Heavyweight title.

After some hard-hitting exchanges throughout the match, Hammerstone built up enough energy to finish Fatu off with a TKO (big neckbreaker).

Fatu, the former World Heavyweight champion, won the title at Kings of Colosseum in 2019 against Tom Lawlor. He’s currently the only previous champion in MLW history to hold the title for two straight years (819 days).
