PWCI This Week - #158 The Crimey Briefing

Today is another new episode of the program, we dub this one the "Crimey Briefing". Major incidents a couple weeks ago influenced me to make another one of these as the stories must be shared. The Mad Conservative Crimefighter calls out two so-called "wrestlers" for major misconduct and their outright banishment from professional wrestling and prosecution for criminal acts! You will be disgusted when you learn what I learned just days ago! To close it out on a more positive note, we present a lost interview with Osby Tomlin, professional wrestler but also an artist and gamer that was conducted back in August. We forgot to air this one and remembered we had it so here ya go! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iUpiHhmonP0

Capital Wrestling Getting A TV Deal?

Northeastern promotion, Capitol Wrestling, is nearing a deal to bring their programming to the Regional News Network. We are told that Capitol is looking to syndicate their television show, which can already be found on FITE and the Global Wrestling Network. If the deal is approved, Capitol is looking to begin airing via RNN on February 4. Capitol Wrestling was also the fifth most watch pro wrestling promotion on Twitch in 2018.

Lucha Underground Refuses To Release Ivellise Velez From Her Contract

Lucha Underground star Ivellise Velez took to social media to publicly state that despite being promised a release from her Lucha Underground contract if she worked The El Rey Network's fourth season, she has not been granted the release:

Velez, 31, has been a cornerstone of the promotion's TV series, which gave her national exposure after her WWE developmental release.

RING OF HONOR SIGNS LUCHA STAR RUSH

Ring of Honor announced this afternoon that they have signed lucha star Rush to an exclusive contract.  The announcement was made via social media with the following video:
News Sites have been told the deal will be exclusive for the United States, but will allow Rush to continue to wrestle for CMLL in Mexico, where he is contracted.  He had debuted for Ring of Honor last month in Philadelphia at a TV taping, beating TK O'Ryan.

Rush, 30 years old, is the son of La Bestia del Ring and the brother of Mistico and Dragon Lee.  He's been one of the top talents in Mexico for years and was just starting to break out in the United States via appearances for Major League Wrestling.  MLW had been working on signing Rush to a deal and had gotten him to agree in principle, but Ring of Honor, having the working relationship with CMLL, was able to circumvent MLW and ended up signing Rush instead.
Due to the new deal, Rush's MLW run is already over and he will not be appearing for MLW over Wrestlemania weekend, where he was slated to headline on 4/4 against LA Park in Queens, NY.  Instead, one would assume he will instead work the Ring of Honor G1 Supercard event at Madison Square Garden on 4/6.
MLW posted the following on their website:
With great reluctance Rush has been forced to withdraw from his April 4th match against LA Park.
Despite efforts by MLW Rush was pulled due to the insistence of a third party promoter.
“This is a match and organization Rush wanted to be a part of but sometimes politics get in the way and that’s what this comes down to: politics,” said MLW CEO Court Bauer.
Pentagon Jr. vs. LA Park will now headline the 4/4 MLW event in New York City instead.
It will be interesting to see how often Rush comes in to work for Ring of Honor as he's a weekly headliner for CMLL at Arena Mexico on Fridays.

SHANE STRICKLAND UPDATE, CHRIS SABIN AND FLIP GORDON INJURY UPDATES

Shane Strickland, who WWE has had interest in for some time but was unable to move forward due to a Lucha Underground contractual issue, announced today that he is officially a free agent:

As previously reported in different Wrestling news outlets, there have been rumblings for some time that WWE has been interested in Strickland (aka Killshot on Lucha Underground) and the belief was that Strickland would start this year in the WWE NXT system.  WWE is slated to announce a new class of signings shortly.  As previously noted, there was a delay for Strickland due to a contractual concern with his Lucha Underground deal.  Strickland worked for the El Rey Network promotion as Killshot.   Obviously, with that issue resolved, Strickland would be free and clear to finally sign.
Strickland has been a regular for Major League Wrestling since its relaunch.  MLW has been preparing for Strickland's departure for some time and at one point, he was going to be written out of storylines following the MLW Wargames event over the summer of 2018 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, which is why the company booked him to be destroyed and carried out without being able to complete the match.  Instead, Strickland turned at the Chicago tapings, playing an angry role where he has come out against the product MLW is producing and the fans who are supporting it, like Bret Hart in WWF in the late 1990s.    MLW has been ready to write Strickland out when it was time for him to move on.
Strickland, also a former CZW Champion, has been a regular for WWE conduit EVOLVE Wrestling since this past August.  He's been competing since 2009 and has been one of the most in demand independent wrestlers of the last several years.  He currently has a series of independent dates announced, which were set before he announced he was free and clear from his Lucha Underground deal.

Ring of Honor announced today that it is believed that Chris Sabin has suffered a torn ACL in his right knee at their TV taping this past Saturday in Atlanta, GA.  If that is correct, it would be the second time he has torn that ACL and his third ACL tear over the course of his pro wrestling career.  He is slated to be getting an MRI later this week, according to the promotion.  If the tear requires surgery, Sabin could be out for upwards of six months, possibly longer.  Sabin's ROH deal is scheduled to expire shortly,  so where this leaves the former Impact Wrestling Champion going forward remains to be seen.

ROH also announced that Flip Gordon is expected to be out of action for at least four weeks with what is believed to be a sprain to his MCL that was suffered after he executed a running dropkick in the corner this past Sunday while wrestling Tracy Wlliams at the Honor Reigns Supreme event in Concord, NC.  That would put him out of the Texas loop in two weeks and Pro Wrestling Guerrilla in California has also announced Gordon has been pulled from their next event.  Gordon is also slated for a MRI this week.
