Jim Crockett Jr. On Ted Turner Being Upset For Going Head-To-Head With WWE WrestleMania IV PPV

As proud second-generation owners of Jim Crockett Promotions / NWA, Jim Crockett Jr. and his brother David were early rivals to Vince McMahon Jr.'s WWF. During his time as the promoter and owner of the company, Jim Jr. thought, why not raise the stakes and start creating pay-per-view events to increase revenue and publicity.
When Jim came up with the idea to create the first ever Clash of the Champions event that would air for free on TBS at the same time and day as WrestleMania IV, he never thought his idea would land him in hot water. However, Crockett reveals that Ted Turner was not happy by the move and called him the day after the event.
During their interview at Starrcast this past weekend, Jim discussed the call with Turner, and how he realized he had to stop while he was ahead so he didn't lose future opportunities with the television industry.
"We tried a couple of close circuits between Greensboro and Atlanta, and we didn't have the success that I had hoped for," Crockett began. "Pay-per-view was the way to go. So, of course, we did that. Then Vince does his first pay-per-view and I came up with the bright idea to hurt his pay-per-view, so I thought, let's do that. We did a two-hour live special from Greensboro with no commercials during the matches."
The event was a big success, garnering a 5.6 TV rating. WrestleMania IV did great business as well, drawing a 6.5 pay-per-view buy rate. However with the Clash being a free event, more people watched the NWA's product that day.
"The next day, we did great. We had great ratings. The matches were great," Crockett said. "Ted Turner calls and says 'I want to see you.' Well, his partners, or his business, were the cable companies. Cable companies make a lot of money off of pay-per-views, and we were told that we hurt their (Turner/Vince's) pay-per-view badly. He said to us 'You will never ever do that again.'"

Cody Rhodes Issues Statement On His AEW Future Coming Out Of The "Biggest Loss" Of His Career

AEW Executive Vice President Cody Rhodes took to Instagram today with a statement on Saturday's Full Gear pay-per-view and Wednesday's Dynamite episode.
As noted, Cody lost the Full Gear main event to AEW World Champion Chris Jericho and per the stipulation, will no longer be able to challenge for that title again. Dynamite saw MJF turn on Cody. Rhodes came to the ring to fight Jericho and MJF, but the debuting Wardlow destroyed Cody and aligned himself with MJF.
In the statement on Instagram, Cody called the Full Gear loss the biggest of his professional wrestling career. He went on to thank everyone involved with both shows, including AEW President & CEO Tony Khan, and "some of the loudest and loveliest fans ever." Cody said the end result is something he can accept, and he can't change it, but he can move forward and hopefully find some vindication.
"Lovely snap my Wife got of Pharaoh and I days removed from the biggest loss of my professional career," Cody wrote in the caption of the photo. "Nothing positive will come from whining/pointing fingers. I'd like to thank everybody who attended Full Gear & Dynamite this last week, from Baltimore to Nashville...some of the loudest and loveliest fans ever. Both cities did it 'AEW style' by not just making it about a single event, but instead turning multiple days into a party and destination.
"I'd like to thank Tony Khan and my fellow EVPs. As well as Keith Mitchell, Tim Walbert, Rafael, Sandra, Janet, Stella, Chris H, Jeff J, QT Marshall, Jim Ross/Excalibur, Steve Yu & Dylan at Comeback Studios, and the long list of invaluable soldiers who were able to bring together such a first-rate production. I'd also like to extend my gratitude to the Baltimore Commission and Dr Michael Sampson for treating my cut and allowing the World Title match to proceed for the fans in attendance. The end result is not something I can accept, it was my call/choice to make and nobody else's. I can't change it, but I can move forward and hopefully find some vindication. Need to heal, train, and most importantly DO THE WORK. Lesson here: always trust your dog.

WWE Reportedly Tried Helping Jordan Myles Before Issues Were Public, Myles Ring Name Note, More

As noted, WWE NXT Superstar Jordan Myles took to Twitter on Wednesday, November 13 to post an expletive-filled video where he claimed he quit WWE. The video came just a few weeks after he accused the company of releasing a racist logo on his first official t-shirt with the company.
"As of today, I'd like to officially announce that I quit f--king WWE. I am no longer employed. I refused to work for racists. I f--king quit, f--k them. I hate that f--king company and everything they f--king stand for. All they ever did was hold our people back. I do this s--t for the culture. I don't need anyone's f--king permission to do what I want to do. Screw Jordan Myles, don't ever call me by that slave name. Call me ACH and don't forget the 'Super', b---h. I quit, f--k you!," Myles said in the video, which has been deleted because he deleted his Twitter account. You can still find copies of the video on social media.
WWE did pull the t-shirt from WWE Shop as soon as Myles complained and reportedly none were sold. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter points to how WWE made a mistake that was quickly rectified, but Myles went about things the wrong way. WWE officials reportedly "very much tried" working with Myles to help him out in the weeks before he went public with his issues. This was around the time he was no longer being seen at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando. We reported when the debacle first broke out, via PWInsider, that Myles had not been at the PC in recent weeks, but that there was no word yet on if that had anything to do with his unhappiness over the t-shirt design.
It's worth noting that Myles, who now wants to be called by his original name from the indies - "Super" ACH, is the one who originally picked out the Jordan Myles ring name for NXT. He noted in his video rant that Myles was his "slave name" and he no longer wanted to be called that. He started using that ring name during the first week of June.
Regarding Myles' future in the pro wrestling business, there's no word yet on if WWE will grant his release. The company had not commented on the situation at all, and Myles remains listed on the official NXT roster page. The Observer reports that Myles has been in contact with at least one wrestling promotion, with him wanting to make an appearance, but that might not be legally possible as there is no indication that WWE has released him. There's no word yet on which promotion Myles reached out to.
Myles was booked to win the first-ever NXT Breakout Tournament earlier this year, earning a title shot from a champion of his choosing. He ended up losing to NXT Champion Adam Cole in the main event of a NXT USA Network episode. Myles signed with WWE in February of this year, and made his in-ring debut for the company on March 7, losing to Raul Mendoza at a live event. He worked the WWE Worlds Collide special during WrestleMania 35 Weekend, but made his official NXT TV debut on July 10 with a Breakout tournament first round win over Boa. He would later defeat Cameron Grimes in the finals. Myles was in the same WWE PC Class as Grimes, Rachael Ellering, Karen Q, Omari Palmer, Ricardo Miller, Dexter Lumis, 3.0, Nick Comoroto, Brendan Vink, and Bronson Reed.

Jacob Fatu Signs New Deal With MLW

Major League Wrestling announced the following:

JACOB FATU FINALIZES LONG-TERM DEAL WITH MAJOR LEAGUE WRESTLING

Major League Wrestling (MLW®) announced today they it has signed the reigning World Heavyweight Champion Jacob Fatu to a new long-term multi-year contract. Financial terms of the contract were not disclosed.

“This is where I wanted to be all along. CONTRA in MLW: this is my home,” Fatu said. The deal, which ties the “Samoan Smashing Machine” for the next several years to the league, goes into effect immediately.

“Fatu has been a revelation in the sport with a breakout year and has shown all the attributes we look for in a champion,” stated MLW CEO and founder Court Bauer.”We are excited to know that Fatu is someone we can build around, and we look forward to seeing him fight under the MLW banner for years to come.”

Fatu took MLW by storm earlier this year with high profile victories over some of the league’s top ranked wrestlers en route to dethroning “Filthy” Tom Lawlor on July 6 in Chicago.

Representing CONTRA Unit, Fatu, alongside Josef Samael, Ikuro Kwon and Simon Gotch have dominated MLW since the self-described global dealers in violence first raided the league.

Fatu will next compete for the league on December 5 at the Opera Cup hosted by the Melrose Ballroom in New York City.

As part of their new deal, MLW will have the rights to book Fatu out to other promotions and taking a page from how Vince McMahon Sr. used to control and book out Andre the Giant in the late 1970s and early '80s, MLW will have control over how Fatu is used and presented by independent promotions that are booking him.

This is being done to protect and control Fatu and to make sure his aura as a top MLW star is maintained outside the company.

MLW intends to continue building aroujnd Fatu and his stable, CONTRA Unit, going forward.
