Former MYC Competitor Talks Restrictions WWE Put On Her With Her Character (Gee Imagine that, lol)

Former WWE developmental talent Zeda Zhang appeared on the latest episode of Women's Wrestling Weekly. You can check out the interview in the video above or download the podcast version on iTunes, they sent us these highlights:
Being involved in the first Mae Young Classic:
"That was so much fun, but it flew by. Like, we were just training and out of no where Sara Amato pulls us aside and was like you guys are going to in Mae Young. And then nothing was spoken about it for probably about a month or something. So, all of sudden out of no where, it was like the week of, they were like 'we got to go and do everything'... and it was rush rush rush. You're filming all day, your doing shoots and I didn't get to enjoy it, because it [was] literally just a blur. And I remember, my music starts and I'm in the back and I'm was out and I'm like oh my gosh here we go, this is about to start and all of sudden... ding ding and it was over. But overall it was a great experience."
Getting released by WWE:
"They told me why. But talking to other people who have been released, the why that they tell you, might not exactly be the why. So, all they said was we know you work really hard, but unfortunately, hard work is not what gets you far in this industry. I think what it comes down to, is the market because when I got signed, I was actually suppose to get signed [in] June or July of 2017 but they brought me in half a year early. Because they wanted me to come with the Chinese crew because they were trying to get into China at the time. But, because of the issues overseas and I guess the politics with everything, it's hard to get in there. Because, China has a lot of rules and stuff like that, especially when it comes to another company from overseas trying to come in and promote something such as fighting and also the president over there is more traditional and he is very much about peace even though this is entertainment. They view wrestling back during like the Attitude Era. So, their idea is a little bit different... So, it's kind of tough.
"That's why you will see the new hires in waves.. All of the sudden Chinese people are here, then the Indian people are here, then the Saudi Arabian people, it is literally all in waves of what the market needs, which makes sense because it's a big company and it's all about making money. So, it has to do with market and timing and they just don't see certain people on TV at this time. So, they originally told me I was going to be a part of the Chinese market and market me there. So, when I first started they had me on all the promos and doing all these things in Chinese, but then all a sudden they said, 'we are going to keep you in the US market', which then I wasn't really out and about and promoted at all because they were so many other people."
The difficulties in developing her character while at WWE:
"I don't have the freedom of what kind of character I want to be. I can't really test it out. They tell you when you wrestle and when you get to try things out, and they just tell you, "be yourself". But the thing is everything that makes me is my background - my modelling, singing, dancing, music and MMA - and me just being Chinese in general. That's what I am but when I was there, I can't do the MMA thing because someone else has it, I can't do the singing thing because someone else has it, can't do the dancing thing cause someone else has it, can't do the modelling thing because someone else has it, so I'm left with nothing. I can't be Chinese either, they told me, I wasn't allowed to be billed from China because it's not true so because of that I was left with this heart gimmick."

Too Bad Creatives in WWE and Impact Can't 'Create' something as good as Zack Gibson

This promo was from a few months back and man, this solifies why this guy is easily my fave heel. WWE and Impact can't come close to 'creating' what seems to 'naturally' come from him in this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w2f8_bAmFNA

Chris Sabin Says His TNA World Heavyweight Championship Run Was A Disappointment

Chris Sabin spoke with Wrestling Epicenter on his TNA World Heavyweight Championship run, Alex Shelley retiring, ROH heading to MSG, and more. Here are some of the highlights:
Impact's X Division style becoming more of today's mainstream style:
"I kind of think that wrestling as a whole has kind of become a melting pot of every style. You have easy access to all wrestling thanks to the internet. People say the internet has dome some bad things for wrestling. Well, the internet has also done some wonderful things for wrestling. The internet has a lot to do with the talent nowadays. You can watch any style of wrestling and you can study that style and then implement that style. So, wrestling as a whole has become a melting pot of styles. There is less difference, you know? You don't see as many pure styles. It is quite a blend!"
His Motor City Machine Guns tag partner Alex Shelley retiring:
"I support him. The last few years or so, he was going to school on the side while we were tagging. So, I knew this was the end game eventually. I support him! If this is what he wants to do, this is what he wants to do. Lucky for me, I have a lot of experience as a singles wrestler. It is a new journey for me, a new challenge. I've been a tag wrestler with Alex for the last couple years. This is something new. I'm really looking forward to it!"
ROH World Champion Jay Lethal saying Chris Sabin is one of the best wrestlers in the world:
"Me? Jay Lethal said that? That is quite a compliment coming from Jay because I look up to Jay. Jay's been one of my best friends for a long time since we were back in TNA. I don't know what to say. What a huge compliment especially coming from Jay. That's huge! That really means a lot that he would say that."
His run as TNA World Heavyweight Champion in 2013:
"Overall, I think it was pretty disappointing. I don't think I was ready for it. I was injured for about two years straight with knee surgeries back to back, first the right knee, then left. I was back for only two months after being out for two years and not only that, I was a tag team wrestler for several years before that. I definitely wanted it to happen, but looking back on it, I know inside that I wasn't ready. I was still discovering myself. There was new management. Everything about TNA was different compared to the two years before that. Plus, it only lasted three weeks, as well, but I'm so grateful it happened. It was a cool experience ... The moment of the one-two-three and the crowd went crazy is a memory that I will have forever. And, just to be able to say that I won the World Heavyweight Title is really cool, but I know I can do better. That is why it is disappointing. I know I can do better. So, I hope I have another chance in the future."
If wrestlers that choose ROH over other promotions feel they have picked the right company:
"Oh, definitely. Ever since 2015, I've seen such amazing growth with Ring of Honor. So, yeah, I think we did choose the right place to work. Plus, Ring of Honor emphasizes in ring action and they don't try to dictate who and what you should be the way TNA [did]. They encourage you to be yourself because they know that when you put something on display that is more natural against forcing someone else's idea of you, it just makes for better entertainment."
ROH/NJPW G1 Supercard of Honor selling out Madison Square Garden:
"I think people nowadays are hungry for something different than just the corporation, you know? I think with all this access to New Japan, Ring of Honor, the popularity of Bullet Club, the Elite guys and their YouTube shows. It really gives people the chance to have something to sink their teeth into. All of that is kind of combined on Ring of Honor shows. I think the fact that they sold out Madison Square Garden is amazing. I don't know if I'm on that show or not. I sure hope I am! I mean, that is where Bret Hart pinned Yokozuna to win the World Title at WrestleMania X!"

Eric Bischoff On Fans Calling 911 During Nitro Segment, Why Hall And Nash Didn't Work House Shows

WCW Monday Nitro really got rolling when Eric Bischoff brought in Scott Hall and Kevin Nash to form The Outsiders and eventually the NWO. But Nitro is the only place where fans saw the duo at first because they weren't performing at house shows.
Bischoff explains why Hall and Nash didn't work house shows at first on his 83 Weeks with Eric Bischoff podcast.
"If we wanted to keep the premise of the story, which is that these guys are coming to WCW to disrupt it. They are coming to WCW to tear s**t up," Bischoff stated. "They want to make people pay for not making them the stars they should have been when they were originally in WCW before going to WWF. That was the premise of the story, and if the story is going to have any believability and we were going to create anticipation, we have to let the audience know that there is a chance that these guys are going to come and tear s**t up. The minute we would have built it as Scott Hall and Kevin Nash are going to take on Sting and Lex Luger at a house show, there goes your illusion."
One of the most notable moments of the NWO's invasion of WCW came on Nitro when Kevin Nash picked up Rey Mysterio Jr. and threw him, head-first, into a TV trailer. Bischoff says that some fans actually called 911 after watching it as they thought they were witnessing an actual assault.
"It is true. It was something that I didn't think about. It's not like I was sleeping at the wheel or was too busy, but I never would have anticipated that you could do something on a wrestling show that was so believable where people sitting at home would call the cops in the local market, but that was exactly what happened," Bischoff said.
"…Sure enough, we had Orlando cops showing up on set because people called 911. They thought there was a murder going on backstage because they had never seen anything like it. It was so believable, it just didn't look like a pro wrestling angle. It was everything. You didn't see ambulances, or anything remotely close to this scene before. You may have kind of in a way similar but not executed like this or produced as well.
"The thing that made it was when took off Rey's mask, because in a real situation, if his skull was cracked they wouldn't be able to treat it with a mask on. It was the little details that made it believable. There were a lot of little details that made it work, but I think the one big detail was when Chris Benoit, Arn Anderson, I mean, Miss Elizabeth crying. Everybody broke character and they were so into the moment and made it believable. They didn't have some 22 year old j---off writing a script who has never been laid or been in a fight and is now suddenly in charge of a wrestling show, which is the case nowadays, you know. They knew what the scene was going to be and what the message was and what we were trying to create, but they had to improv it. They relied on their talent and instincts to make it believable. They made it so believable that it allowed them to get into the character. They literally became actors and actresses in this scene, like legitimately good ones across the board."
