We don't have any details on this yet, but Rosemary appeared to be injured yesterday at the Shimmer tapings in Berwyn, IL. According to a acouple people at the show, she was outside the ring during a lumberjack match and Vanessa Kraven did a big dive to the floor and Rosemary's leg got crunched under her while catching. They helped her out and she at the time couldn't put any weight on her leg.

FORMER WWE WORLD CHAMPION SIGNS WITH BELLATOR TO FIGHT AS HEAVYWEIGHT

Jake Hager aka the former WWE World champion Jack Swagger, 35, announced today during an appearance on the Aerial Helwani MMA hour radio show that he has signed with Be to fight for Bellator in the Heavyweight division in 2018.

Hager announced last March that he had requested a release from WWE during an appearance on Chael Sonnen's podcast, where Swagger noted that he requested to be let go as he wasn't receiving opportunities from WWE.

Hager signed a developmental deal in 2006 and received his biggest push in 2009, when he cashed in Money in the Bank and won the World Championship.    When partnered with Dutch "Zeb Colter" Mantel, Hager had a big run that resulted in challenging Alberto Del Rio for the World championship at Wrestlemania 29.

Hager had not received a sizable push in some time from WWE when he asked for a release.  In 2013, he was arrested for DUI, possession of marijuana and speeding in Louisiana following a WWE TV taping.  He was convicted and sentenced to six months probation and hit with a $500 fine.  The marijuana was charge was dismissed, but the Jack Swagger character was never given consistently featured on WWE programming again in a major way.

Since leaving WWE, Hager has worked for a number of independent promotions, sometimes managed by his wife, Catalina.  One would assume WWE will step in to prevent him from using the Jack Swagger moniker in his MMA exploits.

Fighting as a Heavyweight for Bellator would put Hager in the same circles as another former WWE star, Bobby Lashley.

Bellator has not released a press release as of this writing, but did comment on social media, Tweeting:

Cody Rhodes Interview.

WSVN-TV Entertainment Reporter Chris Van Vliet interviewed Cody Rhodes at this past weekend's Ring of Honor event in Fort Lauderdale, FL. During the interview, Cody discussed making much more money now in wrestling than he ever did in WWE, the best advice he got from his father, the legalities of his name and a lot more.

He's making more money since leaving WWE:
"I just had the absolute best luck in the world in terms of meeting The Young Bucks and they might look like wild little rock stars who are irresponsible but they are business geniuses. They set up the deal with Hot Topic and they're going to be the first 7-figure downside characters that New Japan Pro Wrestling has. The best way to put it is it's better. It's currently the best it's ever been for me. So yes, I don't want to be tacky but it's very exciting."

He's happier since leaving WWE:

"I was really confident when I left WWE. I was confident that I would have a good time and I was confident that I could wrestle differently than perhaps people saw me in the last few years with WWE but I definitely wasn't prepared for this level of everything. This level of fan interaction, this level of financial residuals coming from these shows and this level of just love."
The best advice his father Dusty Rhodes gave him:

"Every day with him was kind of like a motivational chit-chat. That's how he spoke. He spoke almost like a preacher whenever you spoke to him, so there was always something. I think the thing that always stuck with me was maximize your minutes. At the time in WWE I wasn't getting a lot of airtime and I wasn't always the one with his hand raised at the end and he believed it didn't matter. You could still do something that made somebody go 'Oh, I really like that guy' or little kids that really liked Stardust. I think about that a lot because I have the opportunity to have a lot of minutes when it comes to Ring of Honor and I think about now that you've got them, don't blow it. I hear his voice in my head in every match. He's always with me."

The legalities of calling himself 'Cody Rhodes':

"Oh you can say Cody Rhodes all day long. I just play it safe when it comes to television because it is WWE's intellectual property. But it is literally my legal name, like on my ID. My name hasn't been Cody Runnels since I was 17. But it's theirs. At no point would I ever want to go into a courtroom with a company I have love and admiration for. I met my wife there, I got my start there, they're the house that build me. If they want that last name they can give it to somebody in NXT."

Chris Jericho vs. Kenny Omega at Wrestle Kingdom 12:
"Those types of moves didn't happen in the early 2000s. They didn't really happen after the Attitude Era. Now all of a sudden the term Independent Contractor really means Independent Contractor and that's really cool. It's not the brand that defines you, it's you that defines the brand."

Perry Saturn Documentary

- INFLUX Pictures has started filming for its upcoming documentary "The Rings of Saturn," which looks at the post-wrestling life of former WWE, WCW and ECW star Perry Satullo, a.k.a. Perry Saturn. The film, planned for a July 2018 release, will feature interviews with Saturn and other former and current professional wrestlers and promoters, actor re-enactments and animated sequences. The film will take a look at Saturn's life after wrestling, including several years after Saturn said he was shot while stopping two men from sexually assaulting a woman in 2004. One of the goals of the film is to uncover what director Ian Withey calls these "lost years of Perry Saturn."

"It was the number of years he went missing and no one knew how to get ahold of him," Withey said. "He completely disappeared, and this documentary will really shine a light on what happened at that time."
Withey said viewers can expect "tales from the road" from the Monday Night Wars era, and more stories from Saturn and other wrestling icons. Interviews have been filmed with Chris Jericho, Raven, Diamond Dallas Page and Sonny Onoo. "The Rings of Saturn" will explore Saturn's path from stardom to homelessness, and the issues he faces today as he recovers from years of the physical demands of professional wrestling, drugs and alcohol, and abuse as a child, though Withey is quick to note the film doesn't point fingers.

Is an effort to pay the wrestler back for years of entertainment, INFLUX Pictures will split profits with Saturn, according to Withey. To fund the project and get closer to the film making profits so that Saturn can benefit, the production company has set up a campaign on Seed and Spark, a crowd-funding site that lets people support projects in a number of ways. In addition to monetary donations, Seed and Spark lets supporters "follow" a project for free. With enough followers, filmmakers can receive perks such as discounted equipment rentals and free admission to film festivals. The campaign is available at this link.

NWA Worlds Heavyweight Title Match we've been talking about is right... Here. :)

NWA Worlds Title Match LIVE
Go to 7:30 for the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Title Match.

We are so happy to share with you our latest step in our journey. If you’ve watched #TenPoundsOfGold, this title match was very personal to the two men. Please share this with your thoughts.

More NWA stuff.

The NWA title bout between Tim Storm and Nick Aldis has already been viewed by over 33,000 on Facebook, which has to be seen as a victory.  Whether anyone wants to publicly admit it or not, the NWA was barely a blip on a blip of a radar screen in recent years.  In just five weeks, the Five Pounds of Gold series has gotten people at least remembering and interested in seeing what Billy Corgan and Dave Lagana were going to do with it.

The first step appears to be trying to add luster back to the championship.  The match itself was a good, solid bout that unfortunately had a finish that went a little wonky.  It appeared Storm blew up towards the end, which given it was the highest profile match of his life, is understandable.  It was one of those things where timing was a tad off and it could have happened to anyone.

However, I think for the most part, the build, the presentation and the surprise of the match streaming live were all positives and it's a nice start to building a foundation.  Seriously, when's the last time anyone cared about a NWA title bout?  Over the weekend, thousands did and they cared about one that featured a 53 year old champion with no national recognition and a challenger who hasn't been on TV in some time.  Any way you look at it, that's a huge plus, especially if there is a way to figure out how to monetize that interest down the line.

Since we're on the subject of the NWA, here's this as well. WRITTEN PODCAST RECAP: The Wade Keller Pro Wrestling Podcast – Interview Friday w/ Dave Lagana (Part 2) on what will separate the NWA from WWE, their business model and goals, his experience in TNA

TIM STRONG vs. NICK ALDIS – NWA World Hvt. Title match

Todd Kennelly called it “the title of titles.” Another announcer called the NWA Title “the most prestigious prize in all of wrestling.” They said Aldis says he doesn’t fit into 2017 pro wrestling because he doesn’t care about social media and his purpose is to expose false narrative, beliefs, and heroes. Out walked Tim Strong. The announcers said it’s the first time in five years the NWA Title had been defended in Championship Wrestling from Hollywood.

Storm chomped on gum on his way to the ring and during their pre-match stare down, during which Aldis grinned. The announcers said it had a “big fight feel.” Storm punched Aldis a minute or two after a feeing out period. That sent Aldis into the corner to check for blood. They exchanged chops. Aldis landed on his knee and sold a possible injury. He rolled to the floor to walk it off. Storm held the ropes open. Magnus entered the ring, but kept a leery eye on Storm the whole way.

Storm landed a neckbreaker and got the first two count of the match. He chopped Aldis in the corner and then splashed him in the corner. Aldis kneed Storm and knocked him to the floor seconds later. He stomped on Storm at ringside, then rammed him into the ring apron. Storm sold a rib injury.

Storm re-entered at the eight count. Aldis gave Storm a backbreaker. Aldis settled into a chinlock. Storm stood up and carried Aldis on his back a minute later and rammed him into the turnbuckles. Aldis then applied a sleeper mid-ring. Storm back suplex out of it. Both were slow to get up after a collision. “Nail Biter City,” said the announcer. Storm stood first and then clotheslined a charging Aldis. Storm gave Aldis a boot to the face, then he climbed to the top rope, which felt uncharacteristic for him. A crossbody was good for a two count. Aldis came back with the Mad Daddy Driver out of nowhere for a near fall. Aldis called for Storm to stand, and when he did, he slipped out of a bodyslam and clipped his leg. He then applied a figure-four leglock. Aldis’s shoulders dropped back for a two count before he sat up to avoid a loss.

Aldis broke free, but Storm went for it again. Magnus kicked Storm to avoid the move and Storm went shoulder-first into the turnbuckles. Storm came back with a turning side slam called The Perfect Storm for a near fall. He mounted Magnus and punched him in the corner over and over. Aldis powered out and powerbombed Storm to the mat. It was awkward. Aldis leveraged Storm for a two count, then tried to roll him over for a cloverleaf. Storm is so inflexible it was tough to apply that fully. Aldis set up a piledriver or powerbomb, but Storm powered out and seemed winded. Storm surprised Aldis with a takedown and went for a sharpshooter. Aldis went for a small package, but Storm reversed it, struggled to push off the bottom rope, and scored a three count.
WINNER: Storm in 16:00.

Keller’s Analysis: Ouch. That was not pretty. Storm’s movements remind me of The Crusher in his 50s back in the 1980s, and there wasn’t a lot Crusher could do at that stage, either. Storm looked blown up early (maybe he got winded chomping on his gum so ferociously) and was whatever the thesaurus says the opposite of “limber” is. Magnus did what he could and put forth an honest effort, but it just wasn’t acceptable from an in-ring standpoint in 2017 in a high-profile setting, and for the NWA, this was high profile.

On the bright side, it had a vibe to it that felt old school with announcing that treated the match as announcers would have for a territorial visit of the NWA Champion in the 1970s. If that’s what they’re going for at this stage, and there’s some merit to trying to frame the promotion that way to really stand out from other groups, it worked. The videos building this up were well done, but eventually the in-ring action just has to be at a certain level, and this match didn’t reach whatever that certain level is.
Oh, I could do without Storm chomping on gum, too. It’s just hard to have sympathy for a babyface who’s doing that the way he did. Came across cocky or something less than serious.

Facebook says the match has been viewed 24,000 times. Not sure how many made it to the end, though.

Austin Aries On Vince McMahon's Reaction To His Commentary, Wanting To Be A Heel, Neville

Source: Talk Is Jericho

Recently on Talk Is Jericho, pro wrestling legend Chris Jericho spoke with former WWE Superstar Austin Aries. Among other things, Aries shared how his orbital socket injury led to his run on WWE commentary, whether his feud with former WWE Cruiserweight Champion Neville went as planned, and whether he wanted to be in WWE's revamped cruiserweight division.

According to Aries, he started doing commentary for WWE after approaching Triple H about working on-screen for WWE while recovering from his eye injury. 'The Greatest Man [Who] Ever Lived' was given "the greatest complement" by Vince McMahon when WWE's Chairman told Aries that he is "a natural" commentator.

"When [the injury happened] happened, I was talking with Hunter and I said, 'I don't necessarily just want to disappear for whatever extent of time, so if there [are] things I can do, whether it's commentary, managerial, anything, I'd like to stay, somehow, in the scenes.' And this was at NXT, so when the 205 [Live] idea was brought to light, and they said, 'going off of what you said, maybe this would be a fit for commentary' and it provided an opportunity that honestly I am so thankful for and it [has] opened a lot of doors for me. I learned a lot working with Michael Cole and having Vince, literally, after my fight night, [saying] 'Goddammit, you're a natural. Nobody [has] ever had a debut like that before.'"

Aries continued, "I walked back to Gorilla [position] and he was standing there with a big smile on his face and 'Goddammit, you're a natural!' I was looking at him like, 'what are you saying?' Literally, the greatest complement you could probably get at that point in your career. Sure, and Vince has sat in that seat and heard everybody and I mean everybody, good and bad, so for him to come back and heap that kind of praise on me, I didn't take that lightly."

Predictably, Aries supplied commentary for cruiserweight action while on the injured list to ultimately set up his return feud with Neville. Aries said things played out how they planned except no one knew how well Neville, who has since given up WWE, was going to do in his role.

"Originally, I think that how it played out was pretty much what was the idea. At the time, what wasn't known was how well Neville was going to do in his role and that changed things because, if you listened to my commentary, I wasn't coming off as a sweet, nice guy. So, at that point, they kind of had to make a decision, and, listen, this guy, Neville is on another level, man, completely another level and I'm not just talking about the cruiserweight division, I'm talking the whole company, so let's not mess with that, but now we kind of have this in place, so we're going to just switch it, which isn't always easy."

Aries explained that he is more comfortable as a heel and being utilized as such would be most beneficial to the company overall.

"It's easier [working as a heel]. I like to show my ass and I'm at a point in my career that I don't need to be the champion, or the focal point, or the guy. So if I can be in that role, it's so much easier to help other guys."
Aries added, "I would have relished the opportunity to do what I think I do well, which is get under people's skin and have it shoved up my ass."
In Aries' learned opinion, he had no more equity as a babyface at that time after conclusively losing his feud with Neville. The Leader Of 'V-Generation X' broke it down for us:

"Right or wrong, the first four things I did as a babyface there was fail. My first four attempts, my first four attempts with Neville, I failed at accomplishing the job. Do you know what I'm saying? I believe it was four. The one time I beat him was by disqualification. But so, again, that's fine, we can do that, but I don't have any worth anymore as a babyface, so now there has to be a catalyst for something whether it's me turning on the other side, whether it's me doing something outside of the 205 bubble, whether it's putting me back in NXT, whether it's making me a mouthpiece for somebody, like, I'm literally open to anything, but I don't have any value left as a babyface because I failed the first four things anybody [has] ever seen me do. I talked a big game on commentary and I came in and I failed repeatedly. And that's hard to overcome, but that was the situation and you roll with it."
Notably, Aries claimed that he was up for the challenge of being in the cruiserweight division on paper.

"Yeah, listen, I was totally down for [being part of the cruiserweight division]. When you say, 'hey, we want to make this a brand, we want to market it, we want it run on its own and we're looking at you as one of the guys to help us do that,' that's a great challenge for me. Absolutely, give me that. I wish that I felt like that was really what the intention was. The frustrations I had weren't necessarily with myself. I think it's frustrations we all have as performers and professionals. We can only control so much of what we do and that can be frustrating at points, but you go out there and do the best you can with what you're given and what you are given depends on where you are on the totem pole and so that leaves you with what you have to work with and you do the best you can with it."
