Former WWE Champion To Make Impact Wrestling Debut Soon?

Rey Mysterio could finally be making his Impact Wrestling debut soon, according to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio. The rumors on Rey talking with Impact go back as far as the summer of 2017.

Impact officials are trying to get Mysterio signed for the tapings that begin this week in Orlando, but at last word, there was no deal. There are talks still happening between the two sides.
It was reported back in the summer that Rey was entertaining offers from WWE and GFW/Impact. The talks with WWE fell through and the last top US promotion Rey worked for was Lucha Underground. Rey told ESPN in December that he's not currently signed to any deal.
"I'm not locked up to any company," Mysterio said. "I'm an independent contractor, as we say. I could go work wherever I want. That's the beautiful thing about being on this side of the fence. You don't have a commitment with only one company. You can go around and pretty much wrestle wherever you want. You can choose when you want your off-days to be. That was one of my main priorities when I left WWE.

Rey recently took to Instagram and posted the following on his 2017:
Was Truly Blessed this past year 2017 first & foremost for having the most amazing, supportive & lovable partner that I have as wife...... Angie @619reyna
Later through out the year was on the roster of @luchaunderground & was picked up by @netflix....... I became the face -aka- Latin ambassador of the best casino in the 619 @sycuan_casino and had a huge mask as a billboard put up off the I-5 as soon as you crossed the San Isidro international border ......... Had my handprints inducted into Plaza Las Estrellas in Mexico City....... Became part of the @nutritionsolutions Family & started to train with my good homie @chriscavallini & became more aware of my nutrition and started some intense workouts ........
Also became a sponsored athlete by one of the Dopest wrestling clothing lines out there right now @suplexwrestling .....
Last but not least to close the year I became Heavyweight Champion for @thecrashluchas In Tijuana Defeating none other than 3 of the best Mexican wrestlers right now, @lamascaraalva @rush_ingobernable & @penta_zero_miedo
A Tittle that means more than what you may think, this Tittle was inspired & designed to pay tribute..respect...to two of the greatest wrestlers, friends & brothers,
Eddie Guerrero +
Hijo Del Perro +
There was no other way out in the match for me than a W!
Thank you lord for always keeping me on my toes, for granting me my health and the ability too perform world wide the way I do for all my fans!
A very Big Thank you to all my fans for your loyalty & unconditional support..... I wish you all the best & Blessings for this upcoming year!
And I almost forgot to thank my sister in law for helping me with my FB page @ReyMysterio and all of the collages she puts together for me to post! #GraciasMija #Amooooo #MuchLoveToAll #HappyNewYear #TheBestIn2018ForAll

More Indy stuff.

The ECWA is running Old Castle, Delaware on 1/20 headlined by ECWA champion Azrieal  (with AJ Pan) vs. Joe Gacy on top.

CWF Mid-Atlantic fall out continues w/booker Stutts being fired.

Sources close to CWF have noted that the company felt so strongly about the Stutts situation that storylines were being changed specifically to break away from direction that may have been associated to Stutts' work.

CWF released the following statement on their social media yesterday: "We want to thank the tremendous outpouring of support for CWF Mid-Atlantic in this difficult time. CWF Mid-Atlantic had no choice in this matter. We have standards that we all must adhere to be in a position to represent our company.   Our locker room is strong and united over this and we intend to not only persevere, but grow stronger with the dedication of all our team. We ask that our fans stick with us as we move forward. Thank you again for your support!"

Of course, the major question obviously in your brain if you are reading this is, "What the hell did Stutts do?"  The reality is that there are a lot of stories that have made the rounds related to Stutts and Charlie Armstrong over the last 48 hours, but no one has been willing to go on record with the situation, so until someone does, it's not going to come out beyond whispered allegations.  I can report that most of the stories center around alleged inappropriate communication with a staffer for CWF.  That's about all I feel comfortable writing currently.  Stutts, who finally responded to inquiries by several news sites last night, declined to comment and as noted, no one else has gone on record.

The Stutts situation has greatly saddened a lot of people in the local scene as he was very much a pied-piper cheerleading sort of personality who exuded a great love of 80s professional wrestling and was very much one of the central figures of the circle of professional wrestlers and assorted personalities involved in the North Carolina scene.  To say that this was one of the last things I'd ever expected to be writing about would be massive, massive understatement

Northeast Wrestling news.

Northeast Wrestling announced last night that former WWE World champion Mark Henry will be appearing at their 3/2 Wrestlefest XXII event in Waterbury, CT, which is one of the company's big cornerstone events of the year.

Henry will be appearing before the show for autographs and photos.  He will obviously not be wrestling but will be appearing over the course of the event as well.   The former Emma, Tennille Dash will face Deonna Purrazzo on that event with Rey Mysterio and Flip Gordon also already announced.  Rey Fenix and Penta 0M had been slated for this date but were pulled to work Lucha Underground TV tapings.

NEW returns to Bethany this Saturday 1/13 with Flip Gordon vs. Joey Mercury, a 30 Man Rumble featuring former WCW star Glacier and Robbie E. among others and more.   The promotion has one of the busiest schedules of any group today

DON CALLIS COMMENTS ON GOAL FOR FIRST IMPACT WRESTLING TAPING UNDER NEW REGIME

(Maybe booking more consistently and having shit make sense from week to week would be a good goal to start with).

Don Callis, on the Killing The Town podcast, commented on this week's Impact Wrestling tapings in Orlando, which kick off tomorrow, noting, "Heading down to Orlando, looking forward to meeting all the top talent that's on the roster, and yeah, that's coming up. So it's busy. I mean, it was busy going over for match sheets and what not over the flight from Tokyo when I wasn't sleeping because I was exhausted from spending 4 days with our man Chris Jericho. So pretty pumped about that, pretty pumped about some of the changes that Scott and I and the rest of the folks there are looking to make and it's going to be a process. We're not going to change every last single thing on the first show. But there's a long term vision and hopefully people will enjoy the ride. The good news, ratings are way up, we're 310,000 viewers this week so that was good news. So hopefully that continues and people give the show a try and hang in there with us because I think there's going to be lots of fun stuff to do. It's like when Mike Babcock took over the Maple Leafs, he made the comment, "Look, it's not all going to change in one game or in 10 games. It's not going to happen overnight. You've got to build the foundation and you've got to set the table." So that's what we're doing."

Impact Wrestling will begin taping much of its weekly television leading into the 4/22 Lockdown PPV starting tomorrow at 6 PM in Orlando, Florida at Universal Studios.  The promotion will be running every night starting 1/10 through 1/15 with doors opening at 5:30 PM.

The current plan is to hold tapings in March in Canada leading into the PPV itself.

SAMOA JOE INJURY UPDATE

Samoa Joe suffered an injury to his right foot, according to an article released on the WWE website.

Quoting WWE Senior Ringside Physician Chris Amann, the article noted that during his match with Rhyno on last night's Monday Night Raw, Joe felt a "pop" at the bottom of his right foot.

“We took a look and believe he has a plantar fascia rupture, which is a thick tissue rupture under the foot, "said Amann.  "We will get an MRI to confirm. Treatment includes a period of immobilization in a boot with crutches and platelet rich plasma injections.”
