Tessa Blanchard Talks Chris Jericho Being An Inspiration, Impact Heading To Pursuit, 2019 Goals

Tessa Blanchard spoke with Wrestling Epicenter about Impact heading to Pursuit, Chris Jericho(and her step-dad, Magnum TA) being inspirations for her finisher, and her goals for 2019. Here are some of the highlights:
Impact leaving POP TV and heading to Pursuit:
"What is cool is, Impact isn't trying to compete with anyone. Impact is, simply, an alternative. It is such a neat thing because you see talent that is giving, literally, 200% from the beginning of the show until the end. Nothing is just passable, everything is great! That's what I say, I don't want to just be passable. I want to be the best in the world! I don't want to be good, I want to be great! So, I'm taking the time to get there—to learn from the people that are better than me and the people that have done something in the business.
"Nothing is just good enough. We take the time and we make it freaking great! That is the great thing about Impact—they care about each individual talent and everything that we put out on TV has a lot of thought and time put into it. A lot of people that are extremely knowledgeable, like Gail Kim for instance. Gail Kim has done so much and has so much knowledge. I think she's extremely underrated. She wants the product to be great and she doesn't mind taking the extra time to get it there. That is a really invaluable thing to me."
Her goals in 2019:
"You know, I'm not sure what is going to happen in 2019, but I do know that it is going to be better than 2018. That is a huge statement to make because 2018 was absolutely amazing. But, with the WOW Superheroes on AXS TV, which has Mark Cuban and Jeanie Buss behind that. I'm so excited for people to see that air in January. With Impact, I hope to retain my Knockouts championship. I hope for women to main event an Impact [PPV] event which has not been done yet. I hope to share the ring with Gail Kim one day ... I hope that intergender wrestling can make a breakthrough. There are a lot of hopes for 2019. But, you know, I've been going moment by moment, match by match, and it seems to be working out so far!"
The origins of her "Magnum" finish as a tribute to her step-dad, Magnum TA, and Chris Jericho:
"Wow, I don't think I've ever told this story. So, I'm a huge Chris Jericho fan. I've always been a huge Chris Jericho fan. I was in Japan—I believe it was Osaka. I was wrestling a girl and I hit the finish and she kicked out. I'm like, 'Well, fudge! What do I do now?' So, I go to the top rope and I do a move off the top rope. That was the first time that I had ever been to the top rope! From that, it progressed. I was trying to think of something that I could do to anyone that was unique to myself and still showed intensity and still had a little bit of the past in it. So, as I said, I'm a huge Chris Jericho fan—I love his finish, but I wanted to up the ante a little bit. So, I do it off the top rope.
"My step-dad (Magnum TA) is an amazing person. He was an amazing wrestler. But, his career was cut short. He is someone that I look up to and someone that I respect. He is someone that I go to for advice ... I think he is extremely underrated and does not get the recognition that he deserves. I think that he should be a WWE Hall of Famer, to be frank! I wanted to name something after him and I remember one of the commentators coming to me and saying, 'Tessa, I need the name of some of your moves.' I was like, 'Well, this is the Magnum!' [Laughs] I remember my step-dad always telling me to be careful with that move.
"He'd say, 'That ring is unforgiving. That ring hurts.' Every move, every bump! It doesn't feel good. If it was easy, everyone would do it! It is a very taxing thing on your body. So, my step-dad told me to be careful with that move. That move is tough on me. It is a very tough thing on my body."

It's That Time Again- WWE's "Hidden Gems" That Aren't 'Very Hidden' (LMAO!)

So... The WWE is again trying to claim they're adding 'hidden gems' to their network this week. After seeing the list I did what I usually do (which no other wrestling writer, ANYWHERE ELSE, has the balls to do) and did the research on this.. Well, well, WWELLL. Look what we have here (Smiles).

Here's the post about it from PWInsider. So I'm 'giving proper credit' to Mike Johnson and Paul Jordan of PWInsider for both, making the report? And also not having the balls to research this as well.

Billy Robinson vs Ray Stevens from AWA 09/13/1981? Well damn, lookey lookey right at this shot right HERE and what do you see?

BOOM!, the very same match hyped as a.. ahem (cough cough) “Hidden Gem” that's been on YouTube for over TWO FUCKING YEARS!!! AAAHHH- Yep, sure looks 'hidden' to me yesirrieee, LMAO!

Oh but wait, look at this.. Championship Wrestling from Florida 09/13/1981 – Les Thornton vs. Jerry Brisco for World Junior Championship? THIS.. is supposed to be a 'hidden gem'? Well if that's the case then why... do I see it, HERE!!! Look at this shot. HHMMMMM

This (chuckles) 'hidden gem' has been on YouTube for over THREE MONTHS NOW.. SSSOO How in the fuck can WWE claim these two matches to be 'hidden gems' when any fifth grader can find it thru a simple search on YouTube? 'Hidden' from the WWE Network but available everywhere else in the real world, maybe? LMAO! Lord WWE is so stupid when it comes to this.

As long as WWE keeps fucking up, and places like PWInsider decide to be too lazy to do research? I guess I'll be the only one who has the balls to show the truth on it. You're welcome. :)

Harold Meij On Stars Leaving NJPW: "Talent Will Come And Go. That's Life."

NJPW President Harold Meij commented earlier today on NJPW's website about the expanding pro wrestling world, his influence on NJPW, and stars like KUSHIDA and Kenny Omega leaving the company.
Below are portions of Meij's comments as translated by NJPW Announcer Chris Charlton.
"Is New Japan OK?' Yes it is. 'Is this the beginning of the end?' Twitter's getting ahead of itself. More promotions in the market is proof of a healthy sector with more people watching. A billion dollar market is turning into 1.3, 1.5 billion. It's not a tiny space with everyone fighting over scraps anymore. I used to be in charge of a 1.8 billion dollar business. Not the entire industry, a company worth that much. And forgive me for saying, I did pretty well. And New Japan has a great structure, our people have a lot of skill and know how, and our wrestlers are great.
"Talent will come and go. That's life. Half of Japanese people have had more than one occupation. More overseas. There are different life stages, priorities change. What counts is that while here, people shine as bright as possible and produce the best product possible for us. Our job as a business in New Japan is to make sure our wrestlers are not spending their life worrying about ticket sales, living expense, feeding their family, or injury. They need to be able to focus on the ring.
"I often see talk along the lines of 'Since Meij came in, they're only looking at international, they don't care about Japan.' That couldn't be more wrong. New Japan has gotten to the stage that the world has taken notice of it and we can do these things abroad. I'm not pushing the company international; if anything it's the other way round. I'm doing my job as a professional to fulfill very strong demand. I didn't get this job because I'm foreign. International business is one string to my bow. There's a lot more I can do, and a lot more I have to do in Japan. I have done, and am doing a lot, more than you can see, to increase revenue.
"This is a Japanese company. I want to bring that Japanese excellence, that New Japan-ism, as is, unchanged, to fans in Japan and all over the world. For now, don't worry. Enjoy the ride. Enjoy Fantasticamania."

Cody And Brandi Rhodes Talk AEW Signing Chris Jericho, Importance Of A TV Deal

ll Elite Wrestling held at rally yesterday outside the TIAA Field in Jacksonville, Florida to make a host of announcements for the newly formed promotion. Their next event, Double or Nothing, will take place on May 25 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. One of the other big pieces of news was Chris Jericho has signed with the company just days after losing his IWGP Intercontinental Championship to Tetsuya Naito at Wrestle Kingdom 13 in Tokyo.
After the rally, Cody and Brandi Rhodes spoke to the media, Cody commented about bringing in Y2J and how appreciative he was of Jericho taking a chance with the promotion.
"To have Chris Jericho here today, to give us what we call in the wrestling industry, 'the rub,' and for him to—no pun intended—go all in with All Elite Wrestling, I want that to be the news today," Rhodes said. "So, that meant we held some things back because we want to do this thing slow, we want to do it correct."
Cody also quickly commented on the possibility of a TV deal coming along in the future.
"TV is massively important, but it's not the end all be all, because as you've seen with Being the Elite and the medium we have," Rhodes said. "We have big plans."
"[Being on TV] is always the goal for everything," Rhodes responded. "As [Cody] said we are a startup and we are in some 'baby phases' right now. What I can say is more information on that will definitely be forthcoming sooner than later."
Here is the current roster for AEW: Cody Rhodes (Executive Vice President), Matt Jackson (Executive Vice President), Nick Jackson (Executive Vice President), Brandi Rhodes (Chief Brand Officer), Billy Gunn (Agent), Chris Jericho, PAC, "Hangman" Adam Page, Britt Baker, Joey Janela, Penelope Ford, MJF, Christopher Daniels, Frankie Kazarian, and Scorpio Sky.

SUPERSTAR BILLY GRAHAM BATTLING PNEUMONIA

Former WWWF Champion Superstar Billy Graham, 75 years old, was taken to the emergency room yesterday and was hospitalized as he is battling pneumonia.  The hope was that he would be released and sent home, but we have not confirmed that to yet be the case.
Graham, who was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2004, has dealt with a number of health issues in recent years.
