TRIAL IN DEATH OF INDEPENDENT WRESTLER MATT TRAVIS TO BEGIN NEXT MONTH IN NYC

The trial of Luc C. Vu, the man arrested following the death New York City independent wrestler Matt "Travis" Palacios, before New York Criminal Court is slated to begin Monday 7/20, PWInsider.com has learned.

Vu has been charged with reckless driving, failure to yield to a bicyclist, failure to obey a traffic device, driving left of pavement marking and failure to exercise due care in December 2019, leading to Palacios' death.

Palacios was struck while traveling on a bike path in East Harlem about 2:30 AM on Saturday 11/9/19 when a dump truck driver made an illegal left u-turn to get onto the Willis Avenue Bridge.  Travis was struck and although rushed to the hospital, suffered serious trauma and was pronounced dead when he arrived.      It is not clear whether Vu was aware he struck Travis.  Vu was driving for Parsipanny, New Jersey-based D&A Contracting LLC, which fired him upon learning of his arrest.

“I’m shocked, happy and depressed at the same time,” said Palacios' mother, Yolanda Nieves to StreetblogNYC several months back.  “I was so depressed without my son. [Vu] should pay for what he did to my child — if it was a mistake he could have said he was sorry, but I haven’t heard any apologies.”  Nieves told Streetblog she felt she had been kept in the dark during the investigation.

Palacios, who was returning home from professional wrestling training when he was struck, was only 25 years old.

THE NEVER ENDING SOAP OPERA OF.. . JARRETT VS. IMPACT LAWSUIT SET TO GO TO TRIAL TOMORROW

Unless something unforeseen happens, Jeff Jarrett and his company, Global Force Entertainment will have their day in court this week.  Their lawsuit against Impact Wrestling parent company Anthem is scheduled to officially go to trial tomorrow.

At the center of the case is whether Impact Wrestling retained the rights to continue to use footage of Global Force Wrestling's Amped! TV taping footage, that nobody bu Jarrett cares about as he thinks he can make a nickel off of them somewhere.. which Jarrett (at the time Chief Creative Officer of the company) made the call to use.  Jarrett is claiming that after his termination, Impact no longer had those rights.  Exacerbating the situation is that Impact had the masters from the GFW footage deleted from their servers, which was definitely a dumb ass move on Anthem's part.. Which Jarrett is claiming has prevented him from trademarking the content and is a huge financial loss.  Impact has claimed the company only generated $10,000 in revenue from using GFW content and selling it on DVD and PPV (He's lucky even got that as that product truly sucked ass anyway).   Jarrett is also attempting to wrest the rights to the trademark of his name away from Anthem.

Over the last week, there has been a flurry of activity, including Jarrett's side attempting to add Karen Jarrett to their witness list, which the court did not allow.  Jarrett also attempted to have specific instances of his behavior while working for Anthem kept away from the jury, feeling it had no bearing on the ownership and use of the GFW name, trademarks, etc. but the court did not rule in Jarrett's favor on that issue, so his behavior before seeking treatment for his personal issues can be discussed during testimony in the trial.

The two sides had several settlement discussions over the process but were unable to come to terms.  Now, unless there is a last second compromise, they will be going before the jury.

FORMER IMPACT WRESTLING STAR TO STAND TRIAL NEXT MONTH, A YEAR AFTER BEING NAMED ONE OF EL PASO'S MOST WANTED FUGITIVES

Court records indicate that former WWE developmental and Impact Wrestling star Trenesha Daniyall Biggers aka Rhaka Khan, 37, is scheduled to stand trial on Friday 8/7 at 8 AM before the 409th District Court in El Paso, Texas on charges of interference with child custody and "aggravated kidnapping facilitate".  Biggers is being represented by a public defender.

Biggers was indicted on the charges in August 2019, leading to her being listed as one of El Paso’s most wanted fugitives after failing to appear in court. There are two court instances where her no-shows led to her bail being revoked. She was finally arraigned in December 2019.  The trial was originally set for this past April but was later pushed back to August.

In the State of Texas, interference with child custody is when someone "takes or retains a child when that person knows that the taking or retention of the child violates a judgment or order."  It is considered a state jail felony and can be punishable by up to two years in prison.

Aggravated kidnapping facilitate, according to Texas law, "involves knowingly or intentionally abducting another individual with the intent to hold the victim for reward or ransom, Use the victim as a hostage or shield, Inflict bodily injury on the victim, Sexually abuse or violate the victim, Facilitate the commission of a felony or facilitate the flight after the commission or attempt to commit a felony, Interfere with the performance of any political or governmental function and/or terrorize the victim or a third party."    There is no word which definition of the charge is being pursued in Biggers' case.  In Texas, aggravated kidnapping can be classified as either a first or second degree felony depending on the situation. If it is classified as a first degree felony, it can be punishable by up to $10,000 in fines and anywhere from five years in jail to life imprisonment.  Again, there is no word, based on court records, how the charge is being classified in this case.

Court records indicate Biggers is also slated for a status conference on Thursday 8/13 before El Paso County Court on another charge where she has been charged with interfering in public duties related to a charge filed against her in 2017.

Biggers had yet another charge of interfering with public duties filed against her on 11/13/19 by the El Paso County Clerk, but there are no available court records on where that charge stands.

In April 2019, Biggers was also arrested for possession of marijuana in El Paso but that case was dismissed in June 2019.

Bigger last wrestled in 2011 for the now-defunct Lucha Libre USA promotion, which aired on MTV.  Biggers was part of the 2005 WWE Diva Search and was signed to a developemental contract after failing to make it past the top 25 contestants in the search.  She was sent to Deep South Wrestling but was released in May 2006.  She worked for a number of independent promotions and in Japan before signing with Impact Wrestling in 2008, departing that promotion in 2009.  She worked for Lucha Libre USA in 2010 and 2011.

Thunder Rosa On Empowering Women In Wrestling, Calling For The Next Women's Evolution

Thunder Rosa is the current NWA Women's Champion and also competes in Women of Wrestling. She has made it a mission to empower other women in the industry to know their worth and get what they deserve.

Rosa discussed what it takes to be an empowered woman in wrestling when she joined the Duke Loves Rasslin' Podcast.

"I really do want to empower other women to become businesswomen, because pro wrestling is a business. I've been so blessed for the last four years; I haven't had to work a regular 9 to 5 job. I've been talking to my friends about investing money, buying a house, taking classes that's going to help me build my brand even bigger. I trademarked my name. Wrestling is more than being in the ring, and this is the mentality we're trying to ingrain in the new generation. That's what's going to empower them," said Rosa.

"When they go to the big leagues they're not going to be eaten by the big companies. They're going to be like 'You know what? No, this is what I deserve. This is my contract; let me talk to my lawyer. You're not going to do me like that because I want to be branded WWE or AEW.' No! They're going to know what they're worth. That's the problem that we have; so many people are so unhappy working in the big companies because they're not making what they need to make. They're just sitting down there struggling with money. It shouldn't be that way."

The Women's Revolution was a progressive movement in pro wrestling, but there hasn't seemed to be much advancement, since then. Rosa talked about how women's wrestlers are still being treated as less than their male counterparts.

"There's still a lot of big promotions with only one women's match. Seriously, it's the year 2020. You can pay a guy $600 but you can't pay a girl just as talented as the guy $200 and a flight? She's probably sleeping on someone's floor. I've done it," revealed Rosa. "After Lucha Underground and sleeping in a 5-star hotel in downtown LA, I had to sleep on the floor of my Tia and Tio with Holidead and we had to sleep in Holidead's car. I wanted to make a name for myself, and when you're so hungry you do what you have to do."

Rosa wants women's wrestlers to get more opportunities in the big promotions. She didn't hesitate in calling them out.

"When is the next show for the Women's Evolution? Please can you tell me? It's been over two years. There are 60 or 70 women in NXT; I don't see an all-women's show. Why is nobody saying anything? AEW; where is the show where women are being highlighted? Come on! Can somebody please tell me? If I'm going to get heat for this, I don't care anymore," admitted Rosa. "It's 2020 and we're not going to be silent anymore. I'm not talking about being sexualized, I'm talking about being treated as professional wrestlers with the respect we deserve. We should be thankful Shimmer, Shine and Stardom are running WrestleCon? You should be ashamed of yourself. For many, many decades women's wrestling was put on the back burner. We need more spaces. There are so many girls who are sitting on the benches watching other girls work because there aren't enough spaces for us."
