ICW CHAMPION LIONHEART PASSES AWAY
Adrian McCallum, best known within professional wrestling as Lionheart, passed away overnight at the age of 36. The cause of death has yet to be officially announced but a final message on social media reads ominous in hindsight.
McCallum was a regular in the Scottish and British Wrestling scene for years. He was the reigning ICW Champion in Scotland for the WWE-affiliated promotion and had just captured the UEWA Championship on 6/16 in Glasgow, defeating Alexander Dean in a title vs. title match.
Debuting in 2003, McCallum had been with ICW since 2007 and was a regular for the promotion as well as Preston City Wrestling, where he had held their top title, among other European groups. He was a consistent regular star for the promotion, including a long feud with Jackie Pollo. He was an important figure in the European scene, one of many who helped bridge it from the scored earth period of the late 1990s and early 2000s to the booming scene it enjoys today.
McCallum launched his own promotion, Pro Wrestling Elite, out of Ayrshire in 2001, regularly bringing American stars including AJ Styles, Mickie James, The Godfather and others over for shows during their time on the independent scene, with the goal of bringing American names over for dream matches against names like Kay Lee Ray and Noam Dar before they found their own way to WWE. McCallum was also one of the top stars for Preston City Wrestling, holding their top title and was among those taking part on ITV’s World of Sports Wrestling revival that ran for one season and is still syndicated in different countries, including the United States.
At one point, McCallum announced he would retire from pro wrestling in 2012, but reconsidered, noting in interviews the decision to leave was due to some frustrations he was having at the time, finally deciding it was immature to walk away and continued on with the business
.In 2014, it was feared that McCallum would never walk again after breaking his neck taking the Styles Clash during a match with AJ Styles. He returned to the ring a year later and had been competing since, despite some strength issues on his right side.
McCallum did dabble with some American promotions when they crossed the pond as well. He competed for the ROH Championship in 2008, losing a bout to Nigel McGuinness in 2008. He’d worked for TNA on their European tours, including a match with Jeff Jarrett in Glasgow that Lionheart credited with raising his profile in the British scene and had dark matches with WWE as well in the past. McCallum had always made it clear in interviews his goal was to make it to WWE.
McCallum was also regularly training talents at the GPWA Glasgow and maintained a podcast titled “From the Heart.” McCallum would have turned 37 next month and for man
ICW issued the following statement while asking for McCallum's family to be given privacy:

DAGA-MLW DEPARTURE UPDATE
As noted by me here, and other news outlets Major League Wrestling dropped Daga from their roster, unhappy that he had told them he was unavailable for dates due to a vacation when they were starting a heel turn for him, only to learn he had wrestled in Mexico.
Tessa Blanchard, who is dating Daga, told certain outlets that MLW was informed well in advance that Daga was not available for the date in question, 6/1, as he was going to be in Guadalajara, Mexico for the christening of Rey Fenix's son. Fenix was involved in an event the next day in the same city and since Daga and Blanchard were in town for the christening, they stayed and worked the show as a favor for Fenix, as did Puma King, Pentagon Jr. and others who were in town for his son's christening.
Blanchard noted that Daga loved working for MLW and would still want to continue there if given the opportunity. She also noted that one of his goals is to get more work this year inside the United States and there was concern that the MLW situation would lead to other promoters thinking Daga couldn't be trusted to take dates in the States. She felt that there was a belief in MLW that Daga didn't take the date because he'd be more comfortable staying in Mexico, but he was only in Guadalajara for the christening.
I contaxcted MLW for comment and so ar.. No reply.

Of course it only took her getting grabbed by a fan on a show she appeared on, representing Impact for this to quickly happen. Instead of actually looking into how they could prevent that from happening again, OR.. Discussing the matter with the company she appeared for on BEHALF of Impact about it after she rightfully bitched about it publicly... Just quickly give her the release they should've given her when she first asked for it. THAT just makes 'oh sssoo much more sense' don't you know. Gotta love Impact's logic and mentality here, the woman they refuse to release gets grabbed by a fan, she embarrasses the company by publicly talking about it and only THEN.. Do they quickly 'find a way' to quickly release her, LOL.
With Scarlett Bordeaux being granted her release, the natural question that has been asked is whether Killer Kross is receiving one as well. We have been told by multiple Impact Wrestling sources today that at this point, Kross will not be receiving a release and will continue to work for the company. There were some in the company unhappy that Petey Williams provided Kross the forum on his podcast to speak out about his issues with the company, specifically since Williams is not just a talent but a Producer. As previously noted, there's been unhappiness that Kross spoke out at all in the interview.
But hey, why not tell the truth if they're not paying or using you right. If Impact Management is unhappy about what was said, then here's a great idea... DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT! DUH! I guess that concept is a challenge for Impact management to conceive or grasp.

This situation with these four men started at the Crockett Cup event on April 27, 2019 when The Briscoes believed they were going to walk the the Rock N Roll Express right onto winning the tournament. Update On Low WWE Stomping Grounds Ticket Sales, WWE NXT UK Takeover Tickets
In other WWE ticket news, we recently noted how there were plenty of tickets left for Sunday's WWE Stomping Grounds pay-per-view from the Tacoma Dome in Tacoma, Washington. Besides WWE offering 2-for-1 ticket deals for the first-ever Stomping Grounds event, they have also closed off all hard-camera sections in an apparent attempt to fill the TV sides. You can see a screenshot of the seating chart below.
On a related note, WWE officials are obviously aware of the low ticket sales for Sunday's pay-per-view and word is that there have been talks on possibly shaking up the card, according to @Wrestlevotes. There's no word yet on what those changes to the card might be, but we could see some changes made during tonight's go-home edition of RAW from Los Angeles.
The second WWE NXT UK Takeover special is almost sold out. According to Ticketmaster UK, there are only two seats left for the NXT UK "Takeover: Cardiff" special set for Saturday, August 31 from the Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff, Wales.
When an NXT show sells out and a main roster PPV can't sell out and these desperate measures are taken to try and cover up the fact the products so bad, they can't sell tickets to a PPV? That says it all right there.
Chris Jericho Confirms That He Is An Employee Of AEW, Not An Independent Contractor
Chris Jericho has had a career spanning nearly 30 years where he has seen it all and done it all. Jericho is one of the major players for AEW and recently spoke with wrestling legend Jesse "The Body" Ventura on RT America regarding AEW and possible changes to the controversial independent contractor rule plaguing professional wrestling.
"I think the way that the union will happen is when television stations go through the Screen Actors Guild type of thing to ensure the union happens," Jericho explained. "I think right now is the best time for wrestlers. There is a lot of options, there is a lot of ways to put that money away to be able to take care of yourself. There is a lot of guys from the '80s that weren't able to do that and are having a lot of issues with healthcare and that sort of thing. I believe in helping a lot of those guys in regard to healthcare."
With many talents speaking out against the legality of wrestlers being classified as independent contractors, Jericho feels that AEW will spearhead the change to protect the wrestlers.
"The system is flawed in that respect," Jericho admitted. "I think AEW is definitely more about wrestlers and not just in that respect, but also as far as being in control of who you are as a performer. There is a lot of micromanaging going on in the WWE right now. There are scriptwriters, script doctors, all this sort of thing isn't good for the business either. AEW has a fresh perspective on all of those things. I think it is something that will change the business."
Jericho also revealed that his contract with AEW makes him an employee, not an independent contractor. He admitted Tony Khan and his family's experience with owning pro sports teams gives AEW a pro sports team vibe.
"For myself, I'm an employee of AEW," Jericho said. "There are inroads to that at least for me, I'm a registered employee with the company, so there are options that are opening up more into this sort of vibe. There is a much more of a big-time sports mentality rather than the old school kind of the way wrestling is done mentality"
Legally, the independent contractor clause has long been questioned. But Jericho had a final, pointed question regarding WWE and legalities.
"When has Vince McMahon followed the law?" Jericho joked.

ROH Re-Signs Jonathan Gresham, Signs Female Star Maria Manic
Ring of Honor has come to terms with Jonathan Gresham on a new deal,. Gresham will be relocating to Baltimore and will be getting more involved with the ROH Dojo as part of the new deal. Gresham, 31, who teams regularly with Jay Lethal, has been with the company since 2014.
It's also confirmed that ROH has officially signed female star Maria Manic to a deal. Manic, a four year veteran who was originally trained by Damien Wayne, has emerged over the last year, transforming herself into an extremely powerful brawler who can battle with both men and women. She will absolutely bring a different element to ROH's Women of Honor division. There's been interest in Manic dating back months by ROH:

Former WCCW And WWE Star Black Bart Details Moment Before Kerry Von Erich's Suicide
Former NWA Mid-Atlantic and World Class Heavyweight Champion Black Bart was a recent guest on the Pancakes and Powerslams Show to discuss the Dark Side of the Ring documentary series. Bart, who competed in NWA, WCCW, and WWE, worked with all the former wrestlers featured in each episode.
As explained in the documentary, Kerry Von Erich committed suicide on February 18, 1993 at only the age of 33. Kerry had been addicted to pain killers, primarily stemming from his motorcycle accident in 1986 which led to his right foot being amputated.
Kevin stated in the documentary that Kerry told him that he was going to commit suicide, but Kevin tried to prevent that from happening. They decided to take their guns to Alaska and shoot around, but it did not happen.
The documentary explained that Kerry was supposed to be indicted on drug charges on February 17, and he drove out to his father Fritz's ranch. Kerry walked up to his dad while he was pouring concrete, hugged and told him that he loved him, and drove out to the field. Fritz then discovered his son Kerry dead, committing suicide by shooting himself in the heart.
Bart went into detail the moments leading before Kerry's drive to Fritz's ranch, along with his drug problem.
"I wrestled Kerry, and I was around him a lot. But, when he left to go to [WWE] as Texas Tornado, or whatever they did up there to try to bury him, that's what they were trying to do is bury [him], but he made something out of it, and I give him all the credit for that," said Bart. "But when he left, he had a cocaine problem. And he got zapped. When he [came] back home, he bought more cocaine, and get zapped again. By I mean zapped, I mean the cops got him. And he was facing time.
"I wrestled Kerry that Friday night at the Sportatorium in a cage match, loser leaves. I beat him to the door, one of the first times ever, and double juiced, the whole nine yards. And he went out with his wife, his ex-wife, had two little beautiful daughters, and asked if him and her could get back together. She said, there's no way, no shape, form, or [fashion]. He wrote on a napkin – on the table – that tomorrow, I walk with my brothers. He went that next morning out to Fritz's ranch, and went out and took a jeep and put a .44 right through his chest. [Blew] his heart out the backside. It went in the size of a .44, and came out the size of a basketball. Fritz knew he was out there, and he waited 8, 9 hours before he even went out there."
Bart added that Kerry was "very talkative" in the dressing room backstage "because he was on cocaine and it hypes you up." He also said the Von Erich boys were "sweethearts," but "a little snotty because [of] the way they [were] raised."

Sami Callihan Gone, Savio Vega Coming in And MLW'S Return To Chicago.
It was announced on this week's MLW TV that Savio Vega will be coming in. That has been planned as far back as April and the original plan was for him to debut in the Battle Riot match, but the schedules didn't synch up. The idea is to have him work in a role similar to the one Dave Finlay had with WWE years ago, as a player/coach who helps mentor talent while working with them in the ring. With so many talents who are relatively young and inexperienced in the company, the feeling is that some of them need help with working the crowds, getting heat and controlling it, physicality in the ring, brawling etc. Savio has always gotten high marks as an agent/producer and MLW has been very happy with how the series has been received in Puerto Rico, so this is a natural extension as well.
After losing a Loser Leaves Town match on the most recent MLW Fusion TV over the weekend, Sami Callihan is done with the company. This was a change in plans as the original idea was for Callihan to return under a mask basically doing a "Midnight Rider" like storyline. One story making the rounds is that Callihan caused damage to the venue at the Waukesha, Wisconsin venue during his brawl with Mance Werner, which went all over the place and was damn entertaining. Callihan was seen earlier in the episode kicking at a door into the venue, which MLW wasn't happy about after the fact.
When Konnan returns to MLW TV, the current plan is for him to work as a manager and not wrestle inside the ring. He'll continue to be extremely important behind the scenes.

Scarlett Bordeau Grabbed By Fan In Mexico
A number of Impact stars worked for AAA in Mexico over the weekend, including Killer Kross, Scarlett Bordeaux and Tessa Blanchard. At one point, Bordeaux was sent into the guard rail, where she was grabbed physically by a fan (who should have been thrown out). Bordeaux took to social media about the incident,

Pennsylvania Premiere Wrestling- PPW High Voltage Episode 89

Arn Anderson On If He Will Work With AEW, His Wrestling Future
Celebrating their 400th episode in a major way, The Two Man Power Trip of Wrestling welcomes WWE Hall of Famer and founding member of the Four Horseman, "The Enforcer" Arn Anderson. In one of his only interviews since departing the WWE in March, Double A takes to the airwaves to give Chad and John the lowdown on his post WWE career and what may be next for what could be the final chapter in his 37 year career. The impact of AEW's Double or Nothing:
"I was in Vegas. I was there. I was in the green room when the AEW guys were all in there talking about this and that and the other and you could just see the excitement on these kids faces and you could see the leadership roles taken up by Cody Rhodes. Cody was just a kid and I've known Cody since before he was born and to see him in that role and in this company which does remind me of JCP (Jim Crockett Promotions) from back in the day because everyone is so excited to go out and perform for the audience. If you don't feel good about what is going on with AEW and the impact it has had on the business you are a fool and that's it."
The vibe of the environment:
"I wasn't at the show. I was there doing some signings and I did a stage show that I did with Tony Schiavone (which was absolutely awesome) and I didn't go to the show because I didn't want anybody coming up because make no mistake about it, I do not work for AEW, we haven't had that discussion as of yet and not to say I wouldn't be honored somewhere down the road to be offered a position with those guys, we just haven't had that conversation because quite frankly, I am legally bound to a non-disclosure agreement and for a few more months I am going to be still on a severance package. I can't talk to anybody about anything as far as going forward but with that being said I was so excited for them that I might as well have been working for them because I was pulling for them every step of the way and they paid it off."
Does Cody remind him of Dusty at all:
"I think he is easy to be around as was Dusty. Dusty Rhodes was a huge star and to this day I am star-struck even thinking about him much less being in his presence and I think Cody has star quality, I think he has quality of the heart and that he has matured and he is going to take those things that his Dad taught him before he passed and they are going to become something meaningful now whereas they were just words at the time. I think he is going to go back re-think about the life lessons that he got from his Dad and from his older brother to be honest with you.
"Dustin Rhodes is very mature in this business and he is a very smart man and he came up in a rough way and let me put it to you this way; when you are Dusty Rhodes' kid it is a horrible shadow to step in to, number two you've already got heat because your Dad is the booker and people think you are getting a free ride. Well, he didn't get a free ride the kid earned his way along and he became really good and it is going to pay off for him and it is going to pay off for Cody but do I think that either one of them want to be their Dad or want to be like their Dad? Not necessarily. They both want to be their own men and they are being their own men and I am proud of both of them."

"Awesome. That was special. The people remember and you can go back to it if you do it in a tasteful way whether it is being negative or positive and addressing something that someone said, a promo that stuck through time and to go back to that people will know exactly what you are talking about and those that ask, somebody will be glad to tell them and I think that's the part of the industry that has been missing the last ten or fifth teen years for sure the last five and it is building something that lasts.
"Other than putting television on the air because you are financially obligated to a network and they are paying you a lot of money, put something out there that people would rather remember and put something out there where they are going to feel something about one way or the other and that is going to have a memory that lasts for twenty years."

Interview Highlights: T.J. Perkins talks about leaving WWE, returning to Impact, comparing AEW to WCW, how wrestlers are more entrepreneurial than ever

“TJP” T.J. Perkins joins the Wrestling Epicenter for an exclusive interview discussing his WWE Cruiserweight Classic title win, WWE 205 Live, leaving WWE, Impact Wrestling return and if he has signed, the festivities of AEW and comparing AEW to WCW as well as comparing WWE to WCW in its late days when the company was creatively if not financially bankrupt. Lots of gems here with a highly skilled, highly intelligent guest who has been Suicide, Manik, Puma, and more in pro wrestling before we all got to know him as the “Cruisergreat” TJP!
•On how indy wrestling is more profitable now than just 10 years ago: “For one, and it is not just outside WWE because for the last ten years or so, I’ve been locked up one place or another. Like, I spent a few seasons at Lucha Libre USA which was a MTV Lucha Libre show. For a few seasons, I was there. From there, I moved to Ring of Honor for a couple years. Then to TNA (Impact Wrestling) for the next three or four, then WWE. So, it is not since about 2010 that I have wrestled outside of a major company. Wrestling, at that time, was almost like the dark ages compared to now! (laughs) The social connectivity was so different because of the way distribution is with on-demand and all kinds of streaming services. Now, there’s all of that, but there’s a lot more tent pole like promotions I’ve noticed. Places like a SMASH Wrestling, DEFY, Prestige, PWG… There didn’t used to be anything like that even during the original indy boom back in 2004 or so. When I started back in 1998, there was none of this stuff! There was no Google, YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, MySpace, Facebook… Most people didnt even have cell phones. DVDs weren’t even being produced for wrestling. Maybe it was on VHS if they even taped it! So, it is so different from what I was brought into and from what I last remember. But, it is a breath of fresh air! People are full-on entrepreneurs now and fully in control of their brand. It is great!”
•On his thoughts of AEW Double or Nothing and the birth of the new brand: “I thought it was great, I thought it was amazing! I’m really excited for everybody involved and all for different reasons. Nick and Matt (Jackson, The Young Bucks) I’ve known for a long time. We come from the same place. I was a part of, and you probably have seen them reference it, back when they were doing their High Desert backyard/indy promotion that they had going when they were young. I was one of their guys! So, I’ve seen them go from that to this! I’m incredibly happy for them and proud. And, of course, Cody (Rhodes), it is kind of a birth right to be able to work in this capacity as more than just a performer and work administratively and offer that to the wrestling world. And, the performers! Some of them have been around a long time and finally are getting the platform they deserve and then there are some who are brand new and this is their first shot and they’re getting it pretty early and that is pretty exciting because I know what that was like! (laughs) It is weird to say that I was young once. But, at this point, it is true! I was young once! I remember being 17, 18 years old and getting recruited by New Japan and doing the Dome at an early age, working Arena Mexico at an early age, headlining CMLL shows at an early age, getting the opportunity to do Impact pay-per-views and live TV at like 18, 19 years old. Now, you’ve got a lot of these young kids and this is their first shot, I’ve been in their shoes and that is really incredible to see!”
•On AEW being compared to WCW: “I do think they’ve given us WCW back but in reverse. (laughs) In this case, they (AEW) are like the WWF where they have this exciting product where you want to see their talent and how they’re going to develop. It is exciting – And partially unknown and that is part of what makes it exciting! And WWE, they’re sort of like WCW in that they have the deep pockets and the huge roster but they’re the old guard in this case. But, yeah, they (AEW) really did give us that dynamic back! (laughs)”
•On what being winning the Cruiserweight Title at WWE’s Cruiserweight Classic means to him: “I’ve always thought it would mean more the further away you get from it. A lot of things are going to feel that way now because this generation is big now on social narratives. The thing is, those things fade – three or four years go by, those things fade and then five or ten years go by and those things are nonexistent. Then, you only have the history of what happened and people are able to see in the grand scheme what it meant. So, I’ve always felt it would mean more the further we got from it. At the time, I went back to my room, ordered a pizza, and played some video games and just laid the title on the bed. But now, it means more because I see what it did. It kind of opened the door for a huge demographic within our industry to succeed where previously there had been no landmarks to say, “Hey, you can!” Because, for like ten years, the door was closed for guys like us.”
•On finding out he was to win the WWE Cruiserweight Title that night: “I knew I was going to win because they asked me who I wanted to wrestle in the finals after round 1. (laughs) I knew everyone was looking at Zack and Kota (Ibushi) and they were in separate brackets. Something I came to find out about WWE is they do stuff like that on purpose because they know a certain subculture of fans is going to fantasy book that. So, they plant that seed because then they know they don’t have to do any more work because that group is already going to be hooked on it. So, they asked me who I wanted and they gave me a choice between Zack (Sabre Jr) and Metalik and I actually chose Zack. I’m good friends with Metalik, I’m good friends with Zack. But, I really wanted Zack. In the end, I think they felt that maybe Zack and I were a little too similar – Not too similar but with Metalik, maybe they’d get a more diverse match and maybe a more diverse demographic as well. So, I knew right from the beginning that I was going to go to the final at least on my side of the bracket anyway.”
On why smaller wrestlers that might have been cruiserweights before are now Heavyweight champions: “The real reason to that is the world is getting greener. That’s just the way it is. People are getting closer to their natural… (laughs) You know, like, that is just not the way the world was for the longest time. Technically speaking, almost everyone is obese at least by definition because we’re not the healthiest version of ourselves or as we could be as God intended. So, I think the world being greener contributed to it – People are leaner now and operating differently. Conversely, in the carnival days, what made wrestling different in an archaic system where guys weren’t as talented and the system wasn’t as much of a well oiled machine as far as having an upbringing in wrestling, people wanted to see the unattainable, the literally larger than life. But, now that there are a lot more elements to it, the necessity for guys like that is a lot lower.”
•On if video games changed the in-ring style of wrestling: “Yes and no. In the end, you’re still in the story telling business. You’re selling your story more than the things you do. If you watch Spider-Man or the Avengers, a fight scene doesn’t last 45 minutes. A wrestling match doesn’t need to last 45 minutes either. But, for some reason, some of wrestling is still archaic in that way and that is sort of a weird badge of honor. But, it is not something that is necessary to draw someone’s attention. If you watch a Spider-Man movie, the fight scene at the end might only be 3 or 4 moves and last only a minute. But, you’re buying Spider-Man, not just what he does.”
•On his favorite accomplishments in WWE: “Winning the championship was cool. But, there is other stuff that special to me maybe for more personal reasons. Shawn Michaels had just started working for WWE in a backstage role right around the time I started. It might have been the first thing he did but he produced the match that I had with Rich Swann in the tornament. That was kind of cool that the first thing he did was to have me and for me, he’s a huge hero. So, to work with him in that capacity… And then, from there, I sort of met with him every week and he became a mentor to me in real life. That far outweighs winning a title, having that experience. On a similar note, it was cool to finally do a show at the Staples Center – To be in the house that Kobe (Bryant) built and as an LA boy, it was like,”Ok, this is awesome!” Cedric helped me break the hometown curse, we won a match one day at the Staples Center. And then, there was another night and this might be my favorite one. Neville and I, we clsoed a show at the Pond. I remember sitting in the crowd at the Pond to see WrestleMania 12 and seeing Shawn (Michaels) and Bret (Hart) in the (Iron Man) title match. That was a huge moment for me. And, when I first started wrestling, I wrestled at Swap Meets down the street from the Pond in Anaheim. I was riding home from a show with my friend Dave and we went by the Pond and I said, “One day, we’ll wrestle at the Pond for sure. Trust me.” Dave ended getting out of wrestling a few years later. But, eventually, I had that match in the Pond. I had Dave come out. We hung out. I told him, “We finally made it!” (laughs)”
•On if he’s surprised by the negative reaction Enzo got when ROH tried to bring him in: “Yes and no. He knows what he’s doing, for one. And, I know people don’t want to believe this but the reality is, this is people trying to control their own social narrative when they say “There’s a difference between good hate and bad hate.” (laughs) The reality is there really isn’t. Tension is a necessary product in entertainment. You have to have tension. I mean, I was all right with him. I get it, though. I have patience for that sort of thing. We don’t hang out or anything. But, he gets it. And, he knows how to accentuate that all the time in order to create that tension. So, it doesn’t surprise me. But, I still think it is a useful tool to have that tension. It just is all in how you use it.”
•On wanting to work for WCW back in the late 1990s: “I’m old enough where that was a reachable goal. I started in 1998. And, I was always a WWF guy growing up. But, that was never on my bucket list of a place to go. WCW was kind of my jam at that time because that (cruiserweight wrestling) is what they were doing at the time.”
•On his experience backstage at the Impact TV tapings in NY last week: “Everything was positive in that it is and it isn’t (the same place he left a few years ago). The roster is still a hell of a roster. I might say this might be the best roster that they have ever had in terms of the amount of talent and the talent that they have. There is so much diversity but there is so much unity. There used to be so many tiers of the type of guy in the locker room. Now, everybody, basically, is all in one room! Everyone is all togethr and there is no separation. So, as much as you have all this talent from all over and they’re all so talented, there is no separation there. That was (Impact) a company I was kind of like the R2D2 of in seeing the backstage of it through the years. I was there in the early days, the middle days, the later days. I’ve seen all the transitions and this is by far the most talented locker room they’ve ever had but they’re all together. That is very refreshing. And, the administration is very approachable, very flexible, and very encouraging. That is different than it used to be and a pleasant surprise. It was really cool to see it.”
•On working with Ace Austin at the Impact tapings: “It is not really that I want to work with guys who can get something from working with me. I guess moreso, I want to work with guys that I can help get something out of themself. I don’t hold myself in such… If I could say something selfish, I think I have at least reached a point to where I can do that. He’s the type of guy that cna do that. He’s young, he’s talented, he’s got a really bright future. I can see the type of things that go through his head because of his age. But, he’s got great composure. He’s going to be really good. I’m glad to be able to get in the ring with him at this stage because, hopefully, it helps him.”
•On Wikipedia saying he’s signed to Impact Wrestling: “No, that is not the case. There is a connection on this flight but the plane hasn’t landed yet is the best way to put it. I think there are more stops in the future but there is no contracts right now. It is a polace I’d like to keep on the horizon. On the other side as well, I know that they’re interested in having me back. But, my schedule is so packed! That is the thing, I’m enjoying my freedom. So, wherever I do land, it has to come with a certain amount of flexibility for me. I don’t know that I really want to give this freedom up maybe ever again. I don’t know.”
•On the Suicide/Manik Persona: “Funny story. I had come in to do a World X Cup in 2007, 2008… Somewhere around there and they had come up with this concept. Frankie (Kazarian), friend of mine from Southern California, was told the concept and was kind of bummed out. He was at a stage, especially then, where he was in his prime and wanted to be himself and spread his wings. He had just come off a couple of angles in TNA where he wasn’t able to do that and now they wanted to put him in this thing all together. It was a cool concept but maybe not for him. He was bummed out. I remember joking, sitting in the locker room with Christopher Daniels and Kazarian and him (Daniels) saying, “They should just have TJ do it. He’s already in a mask! They want to have him full time but they don’t know what to do with him.” I was like, “Yeah, they should give it to me.” I ended up not coming back to TNA for a while. It is weird. I came back three or four years later and that is exactly what happened! I think it was kind of dead in the water by that time just because of the momentum that it had. But, the way that they had invisioned the character was the way that I played it.”
•On getting to work with Hulk Hogan on camera in TNA: “It was amazing. He’s Babe Ruth! It is funny to say this, and I don’t remember who told me this, but there are like three people that could be considered the most recognizable people on Earth to where everyone knows who they are. He’s one of them!”
