Gail Kim On Which Former TNA Star Wants To Return To Wrestling, WWE Signing All Available Talent

Current producer for Impact Wrestling and former WWE star Gail Kim took on a media call this week. During the call, she revealed that Taryn Terrell wants to make a return to wrestling. Kim also went in depth on the demanding WWE schedule, the women she would like to sign to the Knockout's Division before they get "scooped up" by WWE, and whether she thinks the Knockouts Tag Team Titles would benefit the current Knockouts division.
Former Impact Knockout, Taryn Terrell last competed in a match on August 20, 2017 when she teamed with Sienna & Taya Valkyrie to defeat Kim, Allie, & Rosemary in a six-woman tag team match. It was announced that Terrell had departed from Impact Wrestling on October 20, 2017 but Kim revealed that Terrell wants to make a return to the squared circle.
"She is not wrestling, she is doing stunt work but I know she wants to come back to wrestling," Kim stated. "She does miss it, just like everyone else that enters this business, I think. I always tell everyone wrestling is like the mafia, once you get in, you can't get out."
Kim has been scouting out talent to potentially join the Knockouts Division, however, she expressed how frustrated she is with WWE as they continue collecting talent and leaving the "slim pickings" for everyone else. Kim hopes to find the gems among what remains and add more talented international girls to the Knockouts Division.
"There's a couple of girls, I guess, but I almost don't want to say it because WWE signs everyone - is snatching up everyone, and making slim pickings for everyone," Kim explained. "I just heard that Viper just got signed. I don't know if that's a rumor or not, I don't know if it's been made in an announcement, but I loved Viper in the UK. There's a girl named Shotzi Blackheart here in the indies that we used once, but then she got injured straight after that. I see a lot of potential in her. There's a girl in Mexico, Keira, that I really like.
"Like I said, it seems like now everyone is kinda getting scooped up and I just want more of a pool to pick from," Kim continued. "If there are good girls internationally, let me know. I think all the Japanese girls are pretty much taken, it seems like."
With WWE's introduction of the Women's Tag Team Championships, Kim explained how there's been an influx of people asking for the return of the Knockouts Tag Team Championships. Kim sees potential for the Championships to return somewhere down the line but thinks they need to reinforce the division with plenty more Knockouts before Knockouts Tag Team Championships return.
"At the moment, the state of the Knockouts, I feel like they don't necessarily need the tag team titles right now because the story is interesting enough," Kim said. "But I have seen a lot more tweets about that since WWE has introduced the tag team titles to their women's division, but they do have a lot more girls than us, so i think that if we added some more girls, I think that could maybe be a discussion that could come up."
Kim saw quick success in WWE, winning her very first televised match, a seven-woman battle royal, on the June 30, 2003 episode of RAW to become the WWE Women's Champion. On August 5, 2011, Kim announced over Twitter that she had quit WWE but was forced to stay with the company until her contract officially expired on September 30 of the same year. Kim thinks that experiencing WWE is something that every wrestler should try once in their career, especially athletes starting out in the business, or those in the prime of their career who can handle the demanding expectations.
"Despite my experiences there, I always tell every wrestler, you need to experience it if you have not," Kim said. "You do have to give your life to them. They literally want you to eat, breath, sleep it, so I think it's great for people who are entering the business and maybe in the prime of their career. But I always try to remind people who have been there a long time that I still speak to, that sometimes, they forget there's a real world out there. Because you live in this bubble and you're constantly on the road, and when you come home you're so exhausted and you have to get your errands done in a day, and then you're back on the road, so it's very hard. I give it to them for sticking to that schedule."

Maria Kanellis Fact Checks The Marks And Other News Sites Over False Reporting

I thankfully am not one of the ones who got fact checked, LOL!. I actually DO some research unlike other Wrestling News Sites I can name.

Maria Kanellis took to Twitter today and responded to the report on she and husband Mike Kanellis requesting their WWE releases. The report noted that they asked for their releases a few weeks back as they are not happy with how WWE is using them.
"Everyone thinks they know everything. Hahahahaha.... it's social media not an autobiography," Maria wrote in response to a fan who asked why was she tweeting excitement over being in the WWE 2K19 DLC as she asked to leave the company.

Cody Rhodes Interview On ESPN

Will AEW be recruiting experienced wrestlers or up-and-comers or amateur or a mix:"Probably a mix. My favorite word here is fresh. I want fresh. People who haven't ever been seen. One thing that has surprised me about independent pro wrestling is the amount of quality men and women on the scene. The stars are just waiting to be under the big lights. Obviously there is a great deal of veterans, but I don't want to make the mistake of putting that talent on the forefront versus featuring up-and-coming wrestlers. Fresh is everything and nothing is better than when you have a balance. You add to that one of the greatest wrestlers of all time in Chris Jericho, who continues to reinvent himself -- he's wrestling's David Bowie -- you put him in the same ring with somebody who's fresh and hasn't been seen, it just ups that individual's profile. It's what we call in the business "the rub." That's how I really want to balance it out. I don't want to lean towards one side. You've seen in wrestling, the worst thing you can do is abuse and overuse your legends. You have got to keep it amongst your core contract young and fresh guys

Specific job responsibilities as an Executive VP: "I am the executive vice president of talent, live events and creative. And that is the job I share with Matt and Nick. It's basically an extension of All In. I don't want to hang out in the past, but it is what we did for All In. It's recruiting talent, it's licensing talent, it's coordinating everything from stage design to scaling the MGM Grand Garden, which is what I was doing on my phone right before we started speaking. This is my dream job. I am doing it all currently. Recruiting talent, talking to talent, making deals, underwriting the contracts -- everything that is under the purview of that job and more because we are a startup."

How his approach to creative will be similar or different to Dusty: "My dad was executive producer at WCW and was the booker for Jim Crockett Promotions. I learned so much from being his son. I'll be honest -- I don't like when other people say it, but I can say it -- I learned from the things he did right and I also learned from the things he did wrong, because he had to live with them for a good portion of his career. A lot of it is on the board criticism, but I've seen that and I feel like I know what to stay away from and know which direction to go. One thing we are trying to do here is let guys go out there and play their music like they are going to play it. If I invest in a talent like, let's say MJF [Maxwell Jacob Friedman] for example, it's not my job to micromanage you. My job is to put a spotlight on you. I've seen your set of skills. We looked into you. We recruited you. I'm just using him as an example. Somebody like that, if you are paying them to be on your show, let them go out there and play their own song. Don't give them a new lyric sheet. Don't give them a new instrument. And that's the type of wrestling I grew up on.If we look at the heyday of WWF in the late '80s and the type of wrestling that I love dearly, those were grown men who knew what the direction was, they got a finish, they got a time, and they went out there and delivered what they delivered. It wasn't something that was micromanaged. Maybe slightly consulted or massaged, but they were the stars, so why micromanage them? We will not be micromanaging anybody."

How many revenue streams they are looking to develop: "Unfortunately due to the legality in all of this, I can't speak on the potentiality of a television deal, but I can say we've got Tony and the world that Tony comes from with his business acumen and providing consistent content and what that means for a consumer. I can also speak to the fact that Dana Massie, who is going to be heading up the merchandising arm of All Elite Wrestling, is a frigging genius. She is responsible for Killing The Business [The Young Bucks' merchandising empire]. She is the secret weapon behind that and pretty much, without being dramatic, has changed the independent wrestling scene and I think she knows it. We're looking at all different avenues but we also have a less-is-more approach. We want to match sizzle with substance, so right now we only have Double Or Nothing happening at the MGM Garden Arena on May 25 and in the following months we are going to have the Jacksonville show, with gate money going towards the victims and families and people affected by the recent shootings in Jacksonville at the Madden tournament. That was something Tony felt strongly about.

Independent wrestler Rex Bacchus dead at age 35

Independent wrestler Rex Bacchus died on Thursday morning at age 35 following a bout with cancer. Team Vision Dojo issued the following statement on his passing:
“Independent wrestler Rex Bacchus has unfortunately lost his fight with cancer this morning around 5/6am. Rex started training training at the Team Vision Dojo at the beginning of 2015 and took right to the sport in all aspects. He was one of the hardest workers inside and outside of the ring. Rex has been battling with cancer for sometime now. Things looked good when it went into remission but the cancer came back. He had been fighting and multiple benefit shows we’re going on to help him. Last month, Rex wrestled last match in the main event of a benefit event and beat “Cancer” in a Death Match. Unfortunately, he lost the last fight but was in a comfortable place in his home with loved ones.
“Rex debuted at the Dojo on June 9, 2015 winning a multi-man tag team match. In his 3 1/2 years in the ring, Rex wrestled more than 200 matches, won multiple championships, and recently appeared wrestling on MLW. You will be missed greatly and always very much loved.”

PWInsider & WWE Get Fact Checked, Again On "Hidden Gem" That isn't "Hidden"

Since nobody at PWInsider or WWE feels the need to actually do some research when it comes to 'hidden gems' that are, I 'guess'. HIDING OUT IN PLAIN SIGHT ON YOUTUBE... And since no other wrestling news site has the balls to do this, it'll always be left up to me to do, what the other news sites are too chicken shit to do. Fact check.

So once again Paul Jordan, noted columnist at PWInsider has again made himself look like an idiot. Here's his post.

This is just sssoooo 'well hidden' that one search on YouTube? And OOHH MY MY, what do you get? HHMMM Look at this.

The very same ahem (cough cough) 'Hidden Gem' that's been on YouTube for three years now.. That's right, three... Years...

Someday, Research will become PWInsider's and WWE's friend, they desperately need to do it, OOORR. Just continue to look stupid thanks to me by not doing it, their choice really.

New MLW Signing

Major League Wrestling has signed California star Jacob Fatu,

Fatu, the son of former WWE star The Tonga Kid aka Tama of the Islanders, has been wrestling for several years using the "Samoan Werewolf" nickname.  I've always been impressed with his work when I've covered shows he's worked.

The plan is for Fatu to get a big push out of the gate as a heel with the company.  There have already been comparisons internally between Fatu's work and the late Umaga, which is obviously high praise.
MLW owner Court Bauer first broke into the business learning under the Anoa'i family and has used Samu and Lance Anoa'i in this incarnation of MLW.

The Revival Leaving WWE?

  • Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp reported today on The Revival’s status with WWE: “Fightful.com learned today that several within WWE were fearful that Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder were finishing up with the company. I'm careful to make sure not to say they outright asked for their releases, as I wasn't told explicitly that's what happened. Instead, I was told ‘has reason to be very fearful that The Revival are done or finishing up with the company’ after a situation unfolded at WWE Raw.”

Cody Rhodes Says AEW Won't Be Hiring Writers Anytime Soon

Over the last week, we've heard many of the names that will comprise All Elite Wrestling's active roster. From Cody and The Young Bucks to Hangman Page and Chris Jericho, the roster is taking shape and fans can expect a solid product in the ring.
But there hasn't been as much discussion about the behind-the-scenes personnel involved with AEW. Outside of Billy Gunn being a producer, we haven't heard much else about the agents, production staff or writers.
There's a good reason for that as Cody Rhodes said that the promotion isn't looking to hire writers any time soon. Cody had an interview with sescoops.com where he said the "wrestlers are the writers" and talent doesn't need to be micro-managed.
"We're talking bullet points, we're talking an overall knowledge of the business, and hey, let them go out and play," said Cody. "Take a look back at the wrestling you and I love. For the most part, they're all grown men and women doing what they were hired to do. They've cut their teeth, they've paid their dues and now they're going to go out there and play their music. I would very much like a presentation that mirrors that. We don't need to micro-manage and we certainly don't need to script a great deal of the product we're planning."
Cody said he has good relationships with lots of available writers/producers out there including Eric Bischoff, Bruce Prichard and Jim Cornette. But for now, he plans on keeping things in-house and let the talent be the driving forces behind AEW Creative.
"This is probably going to be an unpopular thing to say, but I will say it. There won't be a writer hired for All Elite Wrestling any time soon," admitted Cody. "Because wrestlers are the writers. We're the writers. Like I said with guys going out there and playing their own music, believe me – the day comes that I see 'this is something we can really benefit from' – absolutely, but I knew 40 writers in WWE and about four of them actually did anything. The reason I remember them and value them, they helped produce pre-tapes, they were team players, so right now that's one thing we've gotten a lot of questions about. We're keeping it very in-house for now."
Some of this could be due to budget concerns or it could be, as Cody said, many writers don't actually do much to impact the product. As of now All Elite Wrestling has just one event on its schedule with Double or Nothing in May, so there is also not likely a need for a writing team at this time.

Court Bauer Responds To RUSH Being Pulled From MLW Event

Ring of Honor announced that CMLL / MLW star Rush signed an exclusive deal with the company. As a result, Rush was forced to withdraw from his upcoming match against LA Park at MLW's April 4th card at the Melrose Ballroom in Queens, NY.
"This is a match and organization Rush wanted to be a part of but sometimes politics get in the way and that's what this comes down to: politics," said MLW CEO Court Bauer.
MLW has booked Pentagon Jr. to replace Rush against Park at the event in a rematch of an encounter voted on by fans as the match of the year for the promotion. The April 4th card now also has an official title: MLW: Rise of the Renegades. Tickets start at just $20 at MLWTickets.com. There is also a fan appreciate ticket available for $30 that enables fans GA access to both the April 4th and April 5th cards (that's $15 a night!).

Edge & Christian On Why AEW Double Or Nothing Might Have Harder Time Selling Out, WWE In 10 Years

WWE Legends Edge and Christian recently conducted a fan Q&A session on E&C's Pod Of Awesomeness. Among many other things, the former world champions talked about the chances of AEW's Double Or Nothing event selling out and what professional wrestling promotion will be the industry leader in 10 years.
On the subject of AEW's Double Or Nothing, emanating from Las Vegas, Nevada's MGM Grand Garden Arena on May 25, 2019, Christian predicted that the show will sell out.
"I think they will [sell it out]," Christian professed. "I mean, I think they proved they could do it with ALL IN. I think they've stumbled… not stumbled… worked hard for this and I think there's definitely an interest."
Conversely, Edge suggested that ALL IN had the benefit of being hosted in a smaller venue and taking place in the Chicagoland area, known for being ravenous for pro wrestling.
"The only reason I say that with a question mark is because ALL IN was in Chicago [Illinois], which is a [pro] wrestling stronghold," Edge explained. "Yeah, [Las] Vegas is just a little bit different. That's the only reason I question it. And it's a bigger arena. I think they ran a 10,000 seater the last time. This is 17,000+. I hope they do. I really do. And the Jacksons and Cody, The [Young] Bucks and Cody, I love the fact that even if they didn't have this vision from the beginning, they realized to shoot for the stars and give this a try. And then, they run into financial folks like we talked about that are willing to do this with the Khans. It's exciting!"
Edge went on to say that adding AEW to the mix of major pro wrestling promotions is good for the ecosystem of the genre, as monopolies, homogeneity, is always negative.
"Anytime there's a monopoly in anything, I never think it's good," Edge said. "So to see the New Japans, and the Ring Of Honors, and the Impacts, and now the AEWs of the world are either still trying to begin or have already been around. So it's good."
When asked which pro wrestling promotion will be at the top of the mountain in 10 years, Edge predicted WWE would be the leader of the pack, even if WWE Chairman Vince McMahon is no longer part of the equation.
"I mean, WWE [will be number one in 10 years]," Edge declared. "Even if, heaven forbid, something happens to Vince, it's still going to be WWE. I don't think that much can change in 10 years. I don't. That's not to say I don't think there will be other viable and possibly thriving places for people to work, which is great, but I mean, if you're looking at the top of the food chain, I don't think that's going to change."
Christian agreed.
"I think it pretty much goes without saying," Christian laughed. "Yeah, I echo [Edge's] statements."

Tommy Dreamer Discusses Possibly Working With AEW

Tommy Dreamer has wrestled all over the world for various promotions. One of the promotions he is most known for is ECW, one that eventually changed the pro wrestling world. He sees the same thing with All Elite Wrestling.
Dreamer is a big fan of what Cody Rhodes and The Young Bucks are doing with the upstart promotion. He recently was in Cody's corner during his NWA World Title match against Nick Aldis at All In. Speaking on Busted Open Radio, Dreamer discussed a potential opportunity to be a part of AEW, if given an offer.
"I have spoken with Matt and Cody about doing stuff there. I said whenever you guys need me I'm happy to help," Dreamer stated. "Nick and Matt helped House of Hardcore in the early stages, I always saw them as main eventers. If there are any two individuals that, If I had sons, I'd want them to be like them. They are two great human beings. Cody, I've known him since he's a little kid, his father was my hero, my friend. I will do anything for those guys because I love them. They want me there, I'm there, if there's not a spot for me, I get it."
AEW is currently working on Double or Nothing, which is scheduled to take place on May 25th inside the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Impact Wrestling will be doing a media call with Gail Kim later this week.
The promotion is looking at running dates in Philadelphia and Chicago later this year.
For those who have asked, Abyss is said to be really sore from the bump he took wrestling Eli Drake at the Homecoming PPV a few weeks back in Nashville.

PWCI This Week - #158 The Crimey Briefing

Today is another new episode of the program, we dub this one the "Crimey Briefing". Major incidents a couple weeks ago influenced me to make another one of these as the stories must be shared. The Mad Conservative Crimefighter calls out two so-called "wrestlers" for major misconduct and their outright banishment from professional wrestling and prosecution for criminal acts! You will be disgusted when you learn what I learned just days ago! To close it out on a more positive note, we present a lost interview with Osby Tomlin, professional wrestler but also an artist and gamer that was conducted back in August. We forgot to air this one and remembered we had it so here ya go! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iUpiHhmonP0

Capital Wrestling Getting A TV Deal?

Northeastern promotion, Capitol Wrestling, is nearing a deal to bring their programming to the Regional News Network. We are told that Capitol is looking to syndicate their television show, which can already be found on FITE and the Global Wrestling Network. If the deal is approved, Capitol is looking to begin airing via RNN on February 4. Capitol Wrestling was also the fifth most watch pro wrestling promotion on Twitch in 2018.

Lucha Underground Refuses To Release Ivellise Velez From Her Contract

Lucha Underground star Ivellise Velez took to social media to publicly state that despite being promised a release from her Lucha Underground contract if she worked The El Rey Network's fourth season, she has not been granted the release:

Velez, 31, has been a cornerstone of the promotion's TV series, which gave her national exposure after her WWE developmental release.

RING OF HONOR SIGNS LUCHA STAR RUSH

Ring of Honor announced this afternoon that they have signed lucha star Rush to an exclusive contract.  The announcement was made via social media with the following video:
News Sites have been told the deal will be exclusive for the United States, but will allow Rush to continue to wrestle for CMLL in Mexico, where he is contracted.  He had debuted for Ring of Honor last month in Philadelphia at a TV taping, beating TK O'Ryan.

Rush, 30 years old, is the son of La Bestia del Ring and the brother of Mistico and Dragon Lee.  He's been one of the top talents in Mexico for years and was just starting to break out in the United States via appearances for Major League Wrestling.  MLW had been working on signing Rush to a deal and had gotten him to agree in principle, but Ring of Honor, having the working relationship with CMLL, was able to circumvent MLW and ended up signing Rush instead.
Due to the new deal, Rush's MLW run is already over and he will not be appearing for MLW over Wrestlemania weekend, where he was slated to headline on 4/4 against LA Park in Queens, NY.  Instead, one would assume he will instead work the Ring of Honor G1 Supercard event at Madison Square Garden on 4/6.
MLW posted the following on their website:
With great reluctance Rush has been forced to withdraw from his April 4th match against LA Park.
Despite efforts by MLW Rush was pulled due to the insistence of a third party promoter.
“This is a match and organization Rush wanted to be a part of but sometimes politics get in the way and that’s what this comes down to: politics,” said MLW CEO Court Bauer.
Pentagon Jr. vs. LA Park will now headline the 4/4 MLW event in New York City instead.
It will be interesting to see how often Rush comes in to work for Ring of Honor as he's a weekly headliner for CMLL at Arena Mexico on Fridays.
