Brutus Beefcake Book Author On What Probably Caused Hulk Hogan To Send Them Legal Threats

Brutus Beefcake's co-author, Kenny Casanova, did an interview with The Wrestling Estate to discuss the new book, other wrestlers he's working with and the Twitter feud with the Hulkster. They sent us these highlights:

The Beefcake-Hulk Hogan Twitter war:
"Man, I was on the phone with Hogan's lawyer for hours. I'm telling you, it was not a work. If it was, then Hogan and Beefcake worked me as the writer and Hogan's own lawyer. I've gotta tell ya, that's not the case. They sent warnings about making sure the book was clean and free of error, and no added 'fill-in-the-blanks' that weren't correct. Hogan went through the very public Gawker trial which hurt him as far as looking like some sexual deviant as well as dropping racial slurs. When Beefcake said, 'Brother, I'm going to put this book out soon and it's a tell all,' Hogan got perhaps worried. You know, when they first started out, they were like rock stars. They were probably all over the place with girls to some degree. Anyway, they're a bit estranged right now.
"At the same time, I believe that the story Hogan was concerned about the most, had something to do with an argument with Beefcake's wife and him, and none of that is in the book. That one element, much later in life, isn't in the book and I think that's the thing he was most concerned about. But that's pure speculation on my part. I don't even know."

How he ended up ghostwriting for Kamala:
"I was going to put out a sci-fi book when I saw an article about Kamala losing both of his legs to diabetes. It hit home for a couple of reasons: I worked with him a lot and he's a great guy, and my mom passed away from diabetes. I played Kim Chee for him a number of times in the Northeast, so I felt obligated to try and help the guy. I wanted to give something back. So I gave him a call and started putting his book together. We launched a Kickstarter that brought in like $17,000 in the first week or two. We used the Kickstarter as a platform to get a little awareness back to his character, and then we started putting out T-shirts and 8x10s, too. Steve Austin put us on his podcast, Roddy Piper did the same. Jason King from Bleacher Report helped with an additional GoFundMe page. Kamala was able to pay off his medical costs and get himself out of debt. You know, a lot of these guys don't have any retirement or medical insurance."
Working on Vader's book:
"We did Vader's book. Some of the wrestlers like to have control as far as their voice is concerned. Right now Vader is going through the book and he's picky, but arguably that's a good thing, because it will make the book more him. Once he's happy with the final draft, we'll probably put it out around WrestleMania time."

PAIGE DONE AS IN-RING PERFORMER FOR WWE

2016 into 2017 was one issue after another for WWE star Paige. 2017 into 2018 was supposed to be her major comeback to WWE, her redemption. Inside the ring, sadly, that will not be the case.

In a situation described as similar to WWE Hall of Famer Adam "Edge" Copeland's medical disqualification from the ring, WWE star Paige (Saraya-Jade Bevis, 25 years old) was informed this week that she will not be cleared to return to the ring after her most recent in-ring injury, this w as confirmed with multiple sources.  It is believed Paige was given the news at the Raw taping this past Monday.   sources have been told by multiple sources she is "done" as an in-ring wrestler.

During a six woman tag team bout on 12/28/17 at the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, Long Island, Paige had her back to Sasha Banks, who was behind her against the turnbuckles.  Banks used the ropes to pull herself up and kicked with both legs into Paige's back.  Paige, obviously not ready for the bump, went down.  She tried to get up but could not get her legs under her, finally did get up and turned to grab Banks,  immediately falling down again and rolling over to her back, where she stayed.  The referee checked on her and called for the bell.   She was examined by WWE medical personnel and a stretcher was brought to ringside to transport her back to the locker room.  After several minutes, Paige walked out under her own power.

It was believed at the time that Paige had suffered a stinger, leading to her losing feeling in her extremities.  Given her previous neck surgery, WWE pulled her from the ring and set up further testing that led to this week's decision.

Paige had been announced for the first-ever Women's Royal Rumble match on 1/28 in Philadelphia after she was injured, but we are told that was before medical testing led to the determination that she was to be pulled from performing as an in-ring competitor.  She will be replaced in the match and all signs are that she will relegated to a non-physical role for the company going forward.   One would assume the company will devise a way to write her out of the Rumble match without any physicality, similar to how Daniel Bryan is not allowed to be involved in anything physical in his current role as Smackdown General Manager.

Paige's injury came, as most injuries do, at the worst possible time.

2016 into 2017 was an explosive year for Paige that saw her undergo neck surgery, be hit with a pair of WWE Wellness Policy suspensions, undergo the embarrassment of personal and explicit videos being leaked and of course, her public and tumultuous relationship with Alberto el Patron.  There were a number of incidents that played out in the public eye involving the couple, included a July 2017 scene at the Orlando International Airport that was so bad, local authorities got involved, later determining not only that Paige was the aggressor in the situation but that there was enough evidence to prosecute her for domestic violence battery.   In the end, the District Attorney's office opted not to move forward with the prosecution.

By the latter part of the year, however, Paige was cleared medically and was finally back in the ring, spending  time at the WWE Performance Center in order to prepare for a television return.  She was brought back with great fanfare during a great Raw segment last year, helping to introduce NXT talents Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville to the main roster as part of the Absolution faction.  The strategy behind putting the group together may have been to devise a way to limit Paige's ring time due to her previous neck issues, while also getting her back on TV in a prominent role.    Almost immediately, the trio was clicking,  feuding with Sasha Banks, Bayley and Mickie James.  Paige was right back where she should have been.

Then, the injury happened.

The irony of the situation, a number of sources have pointed out, is that no one would think there was anything physically wrong by looking at Paige, making it even more unthinkable that she, at 25, is being removed from WWE competition.

A second generation star from Norwich, England who broke into the business at just 13 years of age, Paige's signing to WWE developmental was instrumental in leading to the current incarnation of the WWE women's division.  She was one of the first breakout stars of the WWE NXT brand as it evolved from just being a developmental territory.  NXT's Women's division, unlike the WWE main roster at the time, specifically focused on the athletic in-ring abilities of the female talents and built stories, title matches and rivalries no different than NXT's male counterparts.

As more and more talents migrated from NXT to arrive on WWE's main roster, the women's division there also evolved, becoming far more performance-based as the division became a more popular and important piece of WWE's product, Paige was not only a major part of moving the division forward, she was the first sign of that the tides were changing.

Paige, the first NXT Women's champion, was moved to the main roster as a surprise the day after Wrestlemania 30 in New Orleans, shockingly defeating AJ Lee to become the WWE Divas champion.  In doing so, Paige became the first and only woman to hold the belts simultaneously.  With her Divas championship win, she was also the youngest woman to hold the belt at 21 years of age.    She would hold the Divas championship twice.

While Paige will not be allowed to wrestle going forward by the company, we are told that she is extremely well liked by management, so one would think she would remain with the company in some capacity.  She was featured on reality series Total Divas, so that's a possible vehicle for her, as are WWE Studios feature films.  It's also possible the company could tap her to Coach in the NXT system or attempt to transition her into another on camera role.

Of course, The Rock is producing WWE Studios' forthcoming film "Fighting With My Family", which will be released theatrically September 14th.  The company will obviously utilize Paige to promote the film, which based on a British documentary made about Paige's family, The Knights, who have been wrestling and promoting the World Association of Wrestling (WAW) promotion in Great Britain for years.  One of the lead characters, named Raya (short for Saraya, Paige's given name) is played by actress Florence Pugh and is the central character of the film as it follows a fictionalized version of Paige's path to World Wrestling Entertainment, right down to a major scene where they recreate the night she debuted on Raw and captured the Divas championship.

The importance of her connection to the film alone should allow Paige to continue to be showcased in some fashion until the film hits theaters.

Outside of WWE, Paige had been attempting to build a separate brand for herself under the name "Saraya" with the assistance of former WWE star Rosa Mendes and her husband.   Obviously, that will continue as well.

TIM STORM vs. JOCEPHUS - Stipulation and Location Revealed

Published on Jan 11, 2018
Tim Storm vs. Jocephus has been a personal issue running in the NWA (National Wrestling Alliance) dating back to November. It started over the NWA Ten Pounds of Gold, which is now held by Nick Aldis, leading to Jocephus cracking two ribs on Tim Storm while he still was the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion.

The NWA suspended Jocephus for forty-five days leading to his "period of contemplation" with his spiritual advisor. After losing the NWA Worlds Title to Nick Aldis, Tim Storm demanded that Jocephus fight him like a man. Jocephus instead demand that if he beat storm in this fight, he won the NWA World Title match Storm has coming to him. When Storm denied this request, Jocephus and his spiritual advisor made this personal.

Tim Storm was infuriated; demanding retribution and if Jocephus didn't find a place, he'd find him. This lead to today Jocephus and his spiritual advisor announcing the location, time and stipulation.

We can confirm that this match will be uploaded YouTube.com/NWA. Please subscribe and turn on bell notifications to find out when this NWA Wrestling match is ready to be watched.

Jazzy Gabert Talks Getting Chewed Out Backstage By James Storm, Harsh Advice From Bully Ray, WWE

As previously noted, Jazzy Gabert was recently a guest on E&C's Pod Of Awesomeness. Among other things, Gabert talked about her 'Alpha Female' moniker, trying out for Impact Wrestling and WWE, and her run with Impact.

According to Jazzy, she based her 'Alpha Female' gimmick on advice she received from WWE Hall Of Famer Bret Hart in 2008.
"I met Bret Hart on a tour, that was like my first real professional tour where a lot of professional wrestlers were there just like Sabu, Rob Van Dam, Sandman, and Bret Hart," Gabert said. "And he [Hart] told me the only way to find a real good gimmick for yourself that works is A) you take your character and multiply it, like, 10-times, like, if you're funny, then, you be like the most funny wrestler ever. Or, you take something you want to be in the ring and I chose this one because I wanted to see someone in the ring, like a real strong, confident woman, not shaking her ass like the Divas back in the day. I didn't want to be something like that. That's how 'The Alpha Female' came up."

With respect to the 'Alpha Female' nickname itself, Jazzy said it came about from other female wrestlers saying she should not be jealous for missing a show.

"Back in the day, I had no gimmick," Jazzy admitted, "so they booked me [and] I was Jazzy. But one day, my boyfriend at the time, as I said, he was a professional wrestler. He went on a show and then he said, but it was not true, he said to the other girls, 'yeah, my girlfriend, she is at home and she's jealous.' And they said, '[gasp] Jazzy? Why is she jealous? She's the alpha female.' And that's how my name came up."

During the podcast, Jazzy said she went to a tryout at Impact, formerly TNA, and it was not very good. Apparently, Jazzy accidentally interrupted James Storm's rehearsal and would find herself feeling sorry about her damn luck.

"I went for a tryout at TNA and I was still Jazzy." Jazzy explained, "I had no real gimmick. I had like long black hair. And I went to the tryout and the tryout was really bad. Like, I don't know. Everything was not cool. Like, the wrestling in the ring was not good and I don't know. A lot of little mistakes happened. And Bully Ray was responsible for the tryout people, so I went over to him and I remember that he and what's his name, Storm? I think 'Cowboy' James Storm. Yeah. They were, like, arguing and had a big fight and I was like, 'I am going to wait till they are over and then I will jump in.' I waited and I thought they were over and they were not over, but I interrupted them by mistake and James Storm was yelling at me, and said I couldn't be work and I'd get nowhere, and '[who] the hell do you think you are?' Oh my gosh. It can't get any worse."

Jazzy claimed that she asked Bubba for advice and he insinuated that the stepdaughter of Masahiro Chono was not as attractive as the Knockouts.

"I spoke to Bully Ray and I was like, 'I know this was not my best. Can you give me some advice?' And then, he said to me, 'okay, Jazzy, do you really think you are as sexy as our Knockouts? Do you really think you have a chance?' And that really hit me like, 'wow'. Of course [it] was true. It was a little bit harsh, but in the end, I'm really happy that he said that to me because I went home crying, obviously because everything was so bad, and I shaved my head. I said, 'okay, I can't be a pretty as them, so let me be ugly.' And that's basically how 'The Alpha Female' started."

Jazzy shared that she was passed over by WWE in 2015 and contemplated retirement.

"In 2015, I had another tryout with WWE and, actually, it went really well. Like, I could do all the exercises and everything was cool. But again, I got a 'no' and then I wanted to retire, actually. Like, I was like, 'okay, this is it. Like, I'm not getting any younger and I don't know what to do anymore.' And then, my promoter called me, my manager called me, and he asked me if I wanted to try MMA. And I was like, 'okay, well, maybe this would give 'The Alpha Female', like, that next thing that's needed."

On the subject of Jazzy's Impact stint, 'The Berlin Bruiser' said her Impact Wrestling storylines left her kind of blue.

"I went to TNA, when was it? Oh yeah, it was 2013! I remember they were in Europe and they had some TV tapings and they were asking me if I wanted to be part of it. And, of course, I wanted [to be a part of it]. And they gave me this gimmick that I'm the bodyguard of Chris Sabin and he just broke up with his girlfriend, Velvet Sky, so we had this little storyline that he's attacking her, she's attacking him, I come in and be like the bodyguard, which was all cool and all fun. But there were some things that really annoyed me. The commentary, for example, said all the time stuff like that I'm his girlfriend, 'is this a man or is this a woman?', stuff like that. And I was like, 'I don't like that.' And so they were asking me. I had two offers on the table: I had Japan who asked me to stay for five years or they asked me if I want to go to TNA. So I [chose] Japan because, again, I was not really happy with the storyline."

Kenny Omega NJPW Contract Update, Omega Vs Cody Rhodes Plans

Kenny Omega signed a new one-year contract with New Japan Pro Wrestling this past Tuesday. Omega's contract was set to expire on January 31st, so he is now with the company until January 31, 2019. That not only puts him out of this year's Royal Rumble, but next year's as well.

that the current plan is for Omega to face Cody Rhodes on April 7th at ROH Supercard of Honor XII. He noted that there is a chance that they save it for the Cody Rhodes' upcoming 10,000-seat "All In" arena show on September 1st.

Speaking of Omega and "All In", he confirmed on Twitter that he will be a part of the event. The location hasn't officially yet been announced. Other names who are set for the show include Arrow star Stephen Amell, who teamed with Neville to defeat Cody and King Barrett at SummerSlam in 2015, The Young Bucks, Marty Scurll and Hangman Page.

So this is how stupid the people at Impact Wrestlng are (new people, same dumb ass shit)

As you'll see here they put the title change between Eli Drake and Austin Aries up on  their webpage. You'd think you'd want to wait til like the show actually AIRED, before doing that? DUH! Dumb fucks. The pic I took at Wrestlinginc's webpage.

Main Event

UPW Heavyweight Title Match (Triple Threat Match)

"The Young Lion of the West" Mattick vs. Sean Carr vs. "Your Captain" Nick Ando (c)

Nick Ando defends his title in what will be his toughest defense to date. Carr is an accomplished veteran who has made a name for himself wherever he's gone. He also has a long-standing history with Ando as well. Then there's Mattick. It was Mattick who attacked both Ando and Carr during their title match at UPW's November 2 Dismember. Mattick has been a man possessed since starting the Vile Society and feels he's been disrespected since he never received a title shot since winning the Upstate 8 back in September. Well now both men will get an opportunity in the same match. "Your Captain" has been a fighting champion since winning the title, but he'll have to keep an eye out for the Vile Society AND be mindful of the fact that he doesn't have to be pinned or submitted to lose his championship.

Title Unification Match

UPW Tag Team Champions Defiance vs. KDW Tag Team Champions The Wrestling Liberation Front

The first of two title unification matches will pit the UPW Tag Team Champions Defiance (Chris Cayden & Maximo Suave) against the KDW Tag Team Champions The Wrestling Liberation Front (Cloudy & Krist Worthless) . It was at KDW's Christmas Chaos where Cloudy and Worthless successfully defended their titles against Cayden and Maximo. After the match, both men walked out with Defiance's titles as well to add insult to injury. Defiance is out for revenge and want to prove they're the better team. But who'll they face is now up in the air. In breaking news Krist Worthless was flagged in Germany trying to board his flight to come back to Rochester for UPW's The Merge and as of right now, he won't be appearing at the show Saturday. What does this mean for the match and who will be Cloudy's partner? Be there this Saturday to find out.

Title Unification Match

KDW Champion "The Dark Jedi" Jeremy Jensen vs. 585 Live Champion Icon Ace

Champion versus Champion. Two young wrestlers, both holding prestigious titles, hoping to be the man walking out as the only champion. Jeremy Jensen has the Vile Society by his side, that will give him the advantage in numbers. However at the end of the final KDW show we saw UPW Heavyweight Champion Nick Ando, former KDW Champion Jason Savior and 585 Live champ Icon Ace come to the aid of Eric Rosecroft, maybe they will have Icon's back too if the Vile Society decides to get involved. Icon Ace has held the 585 Live Championship since its inception by winning the tournament to crown the very first champion. What a fighting champion he has been too. Month in and month out he has defended that title and has walked away victorious every time. This may however be his toughest challenge yet. Can Icon Ace keep his singles winning streak alive and teach Jeremy Jensen a lesson in humility? Jensen might think that his decision to join the Vile Society and turn his back on everyone who has supported him was a good decision because he's the current KDW Heavyweight Champion. He was on a losing streak ever since dropping the belt to Jason Savior. Only mustering up one win in a fatal 4 way to earn a spot in the 585 Live Tournament where he didn't make it past the first round. He has now won 2 matches in a row and a title with the Vile Society, but that only proves one thing, he needed help to get the job done. Will he be able to win one on his own and walk out as the only champion? Will Jeremy Jensen need the help of Mattick, Hellcat & Kount C to pin Icon Ace? Can Icon Ace once again overcome the obstacles put in front of him and keep on his winning ways? Find out this Saturday at The Merge!!!!

"The Amazing Canadian" Lionel Knight & UPW "Canadian" No Limits Champion "The King of the North" Carter Mason vs. "Extremely Cute Wrestler" Colin Delaney & "Eh Plus" Ryan Cassidy

A tag team grudge match will go down at UPW's The Merge. It was at UPW's November 2 Dismember where Carter Mason successfully defended his No Limits Championship against Ryan Cassidy. After the match, Mason was not done and continued his assault on Cassidy. Colin Delaney came out to make the save, but Lionel Knight came out and went after Colin. Knight was upset with Colin defeating him earlier in the show. With that, Upstate officials have made this match. Mason and Knight are two of Canada's top talents and have made an impact since becoming a part of the UPW roster. Delaney has been reinvigorated since appearing once again with WWE, but he and the upstart Cassidy have some unfinished business with the Canadian duo. Also, a win by Delaney and Cassidy over Mason would certainly put one of them in line for a title shot at the UPW "Canadian" No Limits Championship as well.  But it will take more than an "Eh Plus" effort from Colin Delaney and Ryan Cassidy to defeat Lionel Knight and Carter Mason in what should be a action-packed, tag team encounter.

Wrecking-U (Hellcat & Nick "The Natural" Sullivan) vs. Bobby Dipinto & A Mystery Partner

For months now we have seen instances of Hellcat's frustration since losing the UPW Tag Team Titles to Defiance in a Danger Zone match. He isn't someone who likes losing. I'm not sure anyone expected him to turn on Bobby Dipinto, disband Wrecking-U and join the Vile Society. With his young student Nick Sullivan still under his wing he will look to inflict a whole lot of punishment on his former tag team partner. Bobby Dipinto will not be alone though. He has the option to pick any partner that he wants and that gives him a little bit of an advantage. When you don't know who your opponent is it makes it very difficult to prepare. There will be revenge on the mind of Dipinto as well, he put his trust into someone and was stabbed in the back. Revenge can be blinding however and hopefully Bobby is able to remain focused during this match and get the ultimate revenge by pinning Hellcat in the middle of the ring 1,2,3. Who will come out on top at UPW's The Merge? Find out this coming Saturday as we kick off 2018 with a bang!!!

NWA TAPING EMPTY ARENA GRUDGE MATCH THIS SUNDAY

The National Wrestling Alliance announced today that they will be filming an empty arena grudge match between former champion Tim Storm and Jocephus, who injured Storm prior to Storm's title loss to Nick Aldis.  The storyline is that Jocephus has goaded Storm into putting up his NWA title rematch in this bout.

Most interestingly, the match will be taped this Sunday in Orlando, Florida at the Impact Zone.  We are told the match will be taped before the TV taping begins that day.  We are told that there are no other plans for NWA involvement at the tapings this week.

Wednesday, January 10, 2018

Instead of changing their ring Impact Wrestling should work on this first.

Having a top title that looks like this sure makes your company look like shit. Just saying.

PWInsider reminds me why I'm glad I don't believe in paywalls on wrestling news sites

Who the fuck would want to "PAY", to see this? Most of this you can see elsewhere (including here) for free. So what idiot actually pays to see this, and why would they be that dumb?

Published on Jan 10, 2018
Jocephus and his spiritual advisor had made an offer from his period of contemplation to Tim Storm about the NWA Worlds Title situation. With Nick Aldis now in possessions of the Ten Pounds of Gold, Tim Storm's focus is split between the NWA Worlds Champion and Jocephus. It was Jocephus who cracked the ribs of Storm leading to his loss of the Ten Pounds of Gold at CZW's Cage of Death. The NWA had suspended Jocephus for his actions and the controversial brawler entered his 45 Day Period of Contemplation.

Ten Pounds of Gold - https://youtu.be/pUxxxwvuQIo

Under the guidance of his spiritual advisor, Jocephus has begun a transformation and made an offer to leave his period of contemplation and fight Tim Storm but only if Tim Storm put up his rematch for the NWA Worlds Championship to the winner.

Former Impact Wrestling Title Holder On Why He Was Not Offered A WWE Contract

picture of new Impact Wrestling ring (yay, note lots of sarcasm here)

Well, I'm not a fan of this decision. BIG CHANGE AT TODAY'S IMPACT WRESTLING TAPING

I always thought that the six sided ring helped set them apart from everyone else.

The six-sided ring is no more at Impact Wrestling.

There is a traditional four corner wrestling ring set up at today's Impact Wrestling taping in Orlando, Florida at Universal Studios.

It should be noted that there are aprons with the Twitch logo on certain sides of the ring.  Impact has, as of this writing, not announced a deal with the streaming platform.  Twitch hosts House of Hardcore's weekly TV and live events and has hosted a number of other promotions including Impact partner AAA.

Today's taping, the first of six over the next six evenings, begins at 6 PM Eastern

Only in pro wrestling- ANTHEM MEDIA TURNS BABYFACE: MATT HARDY AND ED NORDHOLM REUNITE

Anthem Media's Ed Nordholm and Matt Hardy ran into each other while traveling for their respective companies today and in doing so, Nordholm turned babyface and joined Hardy's "Great War", which is hilarious for all the reasons you can think of:

SAPOLSKY SIGNING WWE DEAL

WWNLive's Gabe Sapolsky will be signing an official contract with World Wrestling Entertainment as a consultant.  Sapolsky, 45, has been working on a handshake agreement with WWE for months, helping out specifically at the WWE NXT tapings.   We are told Sapolsky will retain his position and responsibilities with WWN and the EVOLVE promotion and this is seen as a growth in the relationship between WWE and WWN.

The deal puts Sapolky and long-time mentor Paul Heyman, technically, back under the same roof for the first time since the original ECW closed in 2001.   Before his current position with EVOLVE/WWN, Sapolsky was the initial booker for Ring of Honor and worked behind the scenes for ECW, including authoring the promotion's official program and heading up a Sabu Fan Club.

EVOLVE is running New York City this weekend with events in Queens and Brooklyn, which will stream at WWNLive.com:

EVOLVE 98 in Elmhurst, Queens at La Boom at 6 PM:

EVOLVE 99 in Brooklyn, NY Sunday 1/14 at St. Finbar's at 7 PM:

AIW PREPARES ROWE FAREWELL

Absolute Intense Wrestling announced today that when Ray Rowe returns to the company to face Keith Lee on 1/19 in Cleveland, Ohio, it will be Rowe's final appearance for the company.  As PWInsider.com had previously reported, Rowe and War Machine partner Hanson had been expected to sign with WWE and join the WWE NXT brand.

Rowe, 33, was broken into the business by Lou Marconi.  He and partner Hanson finished up with Ring of Honor at their most recent TV taping in Philadelphia last month and finished up with New Japan at the 1/5 New Year's Dash event in Tokyo.

MODERN VINTAGE WRESTLING PROMOTER SPEAKS OUT IN FALLOUT OF BRAD STUTTS SITUATION

As noted yesterday on PWInsider.com, there were a number of rumors making the rounds in the wake of CWF Mid-Atlantic firing booker Brad Stutts with the fallout also hitting Modern Vintage Wrestling, another promotion that runs North Carolina and had at times, run the same market, Burlington, that is home to CWF.  We noted yesterday that MVW canceled their scheduled 1/20 event in the wake of Stutts CWF firing as a  number of talents that worked for both promotions announced they were pulling off.

In speaking with PWInsider.com today, MVW's Charlie Armstrong  claimed that the decision to cancel the show was made the same night Stutts was fired by CWF as he realized the wrestlers were going to be put in between the two promotions.  There are others who have diputed that account and it should be noted that no official announcement of the cancellation was made prior to talents announcing they were going to pull off MVW.  That said, Armstrong provided PWInsider with a screenshot showing that at 2 AM this past Saturday, he began canceling talents and that does fit with his timeline.

Armstrong has been the subject of a lot of conversation over the last several days, including rumors of alleged illegal activity, leading to him releasing the following statement on his Facebook page:

"In the past several days, there have been many rumors about me circulating among the wrestling community. Although none of these rumors have been made public on social media, they have the same impact on my reputation as if they were. Most have been hurtful and without any proof. The persons who started these rumors did not have the courtesy of speaking to me directly as a man, but rather spread unfounded gossip like a 13-year-old girl. Despite this, I did try to reach out in a mature manner, but unsurprisingly this fell on deaf ears. This situation is out of control and has affected my personal and professional life. These people are trying to ruin my reputation and the relationships I have formed in my business. They are giving people ultimatums to not associate with me or they will be blackballed in wrestling. This is slander and my sole purpose here today to clear the air.

I am not a dishonest person and have always been upfront with who I am. Yes. I do have criminal past. During my 20's I, like many other people, I did not make the best decisions and landed myself in prison. Why am I telling you this? Well, the persons slandering my name are spreading incorrect information. I am guilty of the serious crimes of burglary and writing bad checks, during a period of my life when I was struggling with drug addiction. I am not guilty of the heinous crimes these people are saying. It is completely fiction and despicable that someone would accuse someone of this with no proof. I'm not making excuses for my actions, but since 2010 I have not been involved with any illegal activity. After I served my time, I have transformed my life. I gained employment and worked to save to start my own business. I work every day towards building my business as well as maintaining employment working as a sales consultant with a satellite company. I maintain insurance on my business and I am fully licensed. I live my life on the straight and narrow every day, so I better myself from the person I used to be.

Now that I have stated the truthfulness to this gossip, most of the claims against me are completely false. I am not the type of person who spreads gossip. I am not here to say what is true or not, just to say I was not involved. There is no way to defend myself with lending some information, however, I am not saying anything these people are spreading is 100% accurate in any way. I work in a business where sometime people have their own agendas for saying and doing things to maintain their status and get ahead. I am sure that for all persons involved in the start of this gossip this is true for all of them.

I have come to learn from several credible sources, the reason for my supposed involvement. This company and myself have both employed Brad Stutts as a booker and announcer. I also have maintained a close friendship with Brad over the past few years. This company has accused Brad of things I am not going to be specific on, but have basically they accused me of the same behavior because of our relationship. I am here to say I had no knowledge of any of this before the rumor had gotten to me. The person who started this rumor did not have any proof that I had any involvement, so the went looking for something to expose about me. They dug into my past and spread my mugshot to people and said I was involved in these heinous crimes I spoke of before. This was none of their business and had nothing to do with the situation. My criminal history is public and not something I hide. It is, however, something I don’t go around telling everyone. In my opinion, the past is in the past. I just try to be a better person and learn from my mistakes.

As far as the accusations made against my friend, Brad Stutts. I am not going to say they are true because I do not know. There are three sides to any story as the saying goes. I do wish him well and hope he finds some peace in all of this. He has resigned from my company and has moved on. I made the decision to cancel my show on January 20th as a professionally courtesy. It wasn’t because I was forced to, but because I felt it the right thing to do to ease some of this drama that has ensued between myself and this company. I don’t think it is fair to involve any of the talent’s livelihood or force them to pick sides. I met with one of the owners of this company yesterday and had a great meeting. We both agreed to go our separate ways and wish each other the very best and he thanked me for my professionalism during our relationship.

In conclusion, I just hope this matter will be put to rest and everyone to move on. I believe everyone makes mistakes in life and deserve a second chance. I believe this because I know what it is like to make mistakes in life and to make them right. I took my second chance in life and made something of it. I did this with hard work and sacrifice. I did not take the easy road and did things the right way. I just want to thank everyone for their continued support and wish everyone the best in life."

In speaking with PWInsider.com this morning, Armstrong stated that any issues that led to Stutts leaving CWF Mid-Atlantic were completely separate from his relationship to Stutts and that whatever alleged behavior CWF felt required them to cut ties with Stutts was not behavior Armstrong was involved with nor had any prior knowledge of before Stutts' CWF firing.  Armstrong said he and Stutts remain friends but Stutts opted to resign his post as the MVW booker.

Armstrong also stated he felt a lot of the issues stemmed from jealousy of Stutts and others getting opportunities outside of CWF Mid-Atlantic through his dealings.  He said that he's attempted to make contact with CWF's Jeff Rudd to clear whatever issues may stand between them but has not heard back.  Armstrong also said he was personally hurt by people assuming rumors were true without reaching out to him for his side of any story that is floating around..

In regard to rumors of current illegal activity on his part, Armstrong provided PWInsider.com with a copy of his company's LLC and federal tax ID number, noting that if he was willing to go through the process of creating and building his company the right way, he wasn't going to risk it by doing something illegal.  "If I did that," Armstrong said, "The entire house would fall,"   Armstrong also stated that while he did cancel 1/20, "canceling one show was not canceling an entire company" and that he intended to run Modern Vintage Wrestling going forward.

PWInsider.com has been told Stutts has told several he is done with professional wrestling and is moving on with life, focusing on his family and moving forward.  Stutts has declined to speak to PWInsider.com.

In the midst of all this, CWF Mid-Atlantic returns to the Sportatorium in Burlington, NC this weekend.

THE YOUNG BUCKS & CODY SAY THEY ARE 'ALL IN' THIS SEPTEMBER

It appears we have the date of the long talked about self-financed Cody Rhodes and Young Bucks promoted live event.  All three began pushing the date 9/1 with the term "I'm All In" today on social media, leading fans to a Twitter account using the same name, so that appears to be the target date for the event.

A few wrestling news sites (Including this one) had previously reported the trio were targeting the Chicago area for the event, which would be especially eventful is the trio could get former WWE champion CM Punk on board.  Punk has not shown any interest in professional wrestling since departing WWE in 2014, but Matt Jackson has noted that Punk made it clear if he was ever interested in doing something, it would be related to the Young Bucks.

What is interesting about the 9/1 date is that it would likely preclude the expected involvement of WWE's Daniel Bryan, who's current deal is slated to expire later that month.  However, it would not prevent any announcement of a second date promoting a return with Bryan appearing, potentially returing with a huge draw for show number two.

The goal behind the event is to draw an independent crowd in the area of 10,000, an idea that was sparked when The Wrestling Observer's Dave Meltzer stated he did not believe it could be done, leading Rhodes to say he wanted to take on that challenge.

Former WWE Champion To Make Impact Wrestling Debut Soon?

Rey Mysterio could finally be making his Impact Wrestling debut soon, according to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio. The rumors on Rey talking with Impact go back as far as the summer of 2017.

Impact officials are trying to get Mysterio signed for the tapings that begin this week in Orlando, but at last word, there was no deal. There are talks still happening between the two sides.
It was reported back in the summer that Rey was entertaining offers from WWE and GFW/Impact. The talks with WWE fell through and the last top US promotion Rey worked for was Lucha Underground. Rey told ESPN in December that he's not currently signed to any deal.
"I'm not locked up to any company," Mysterio said. "I'm an independent contractor, as we say. I could go work wherever I want. That's the beautiful thing about being on this side of the fence. You don't have a commitment with only one company. You can go around and pretty much wrestle wherever you want. You can choose when you want your off-days to be. That was one of my main priorities when I left WWE.

Rey recently took to Instagram and posted the following on his 2017:
Was Truly Blessed this past year 2017 first & foremost for having the most amazing, supportive & lovable partner that I have as wife...... Angie @619reyna
Later through out the year was on the roster of @luchaunderground & was picked up by @netflix....... I became the face -aka- Latin ambassador of the best casino in the 619 @sycuan_casino and had a huge mask as a billboard put up off the I-5 as soon as you crossed the San Isidro international border ......... Last but not least to close the year I became Heavyweight Champion for @thecrashluchas In Tijuana Defeating none other than 3 of the best Mexican wrestlers right now, @lamascaraalva @rush_ingobernable & @penta_zero_miedo
A Tittle that means more than what you may think, this Tittle was inspired & designed to pay tribute..respect...to two of the greatest wrestlers, friends & brothers,

More Indy stuff.

Pat Buck and Curt Hawkins' Long Island-based promotion and wrestling school Create-A-Pro will be running a benefit event on 1/20 for the local chapter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation at Nassau Community College with former WWE World champion Christian appearing.  Impact Wrestling's KM, Alex Reynolds, Kai Katana, Nikki Adams and more appearing

The National Wrasslin' League in Kansas is running The Abdallah Shrine Temple in Shawnee Mission, KS on 1/13 with NWL champion Jeremy Wyatt vs. Dak Draper, Ace Steel vs. Davey Vega, Eddie Kingston vs. Leonal Howlett, Marti Belle Laynie Luck and more.

Keith Lee vs. Ray Rowe of War Machine has been officially announced for Absolute Intense Wrestling's 1/19 event at Our Lady of Mt. Caramel. Also set for the show is The Production vs. No Consequences and Matthew Justice vs. Shane Mercer.

MCW Pro Wrestling champion Bruiser  vs. MCW Rage TV champion Greg Excellent will headline MCW's return to Joppa, Maryland on 1/20.  The promotion is bringing in Ric Flair, Arn Anderson, Tully Blanchard, JJ Dillon and Barry Windham as well as Rosa Mendes for a big event in Joppa on 2/17.  WWE Hall of Famer Big John Studd's son Sean Studd is a regular for the promotion.

The ECWA is running Old Castle, Delaware on 1/20 headlined by ECWA champion Azrieal  (with AJ Pan) vs. Joe Gacy on top.

Brian Pillman Jr. will make his  Michigan debut working for Blue Water Championship Wrestling's "Blue Water Bash" in Port Huron, Michigan on 2/3.  The promotion also announced that actor Luke Perry's son Jungle Boy Jack Price will be working for the company this year.

Faye Jackson vs. Lufisto and Arik Royal vs. Gunnar Millar has been announced for the 2/16 Nova Pro Wrestling event in Annandale, VA.

CWF Mid-Atlantic fall out continues w/booker Stutts being fired.

Sources close to CWF have noted that the company felt so strongly about the Stutts situation that storylines were being changed specifically to break away from direction that may have been associated to Stutts' work.

CWF released the following statement on their social media yesterday: "We want to thank the tremendous outpouring of support for CWF Mid-Atlantic in this difficult time. CWF Mid-Atlantic had no choice in this matter. We have standards that we all must adhere to be in a position to represent our company.   Our locker room is strong and united over this and we intend to not only persevere, but grow stronger with the dedication of all our team. We ask that our fans stick with us as we move forward. Thank you again for your support!"

Of course, the major question obviously in your brain if you are reading this is, "What the hell did Stutts do?"  The reality is that there are a lot of stories that have made the rounds related to Stutts and Charlie Armstrong over the last 48 hours, but no one has been willing to go on record with the situation, so until someone does, it's not going to come out beyond whispered allegations.  I can report that most of the stories center around alleged inappropriate communication with a staffer for CWF.  That's about all I feel comfortable writing currently.  Stutts, who finally responded to inquiries by several news sites last night, declined to comment and as noted, no one else has gone on record.

The Stutts situation has greatly saddened a lot of people in the local scene as he was very much a pied-piper cheerleading sort of personality who exuded a great love of 80s professional wrestling and was very much one of the central figures of the circle of professional wrestlers and assorted personalities involved in the North Carolina scene.  To say that this was one of the last things I'd ever expected to be writing about would be massive, massive understatement

Northeast Wrestling news.

Northeast Wrestling announced last night that former WWE World champion Mark Henry will be appearing at their 3/2 Wrestlefest XXII event in Waterbury, CT, which is one of the company's big cornerstone events of the year.

Henry will be appearing before the show for autographs and photos.  He will obviously not be wrestling but will be appearing over the course of the event as well.   The former Emma, Tennille Dash will face Deonna Purrazzo on that event with Rey Mysterio and Flip Gordon also already announced.  Rey Fenix and Penta 0M had been slated for this date but were pulled to work Lucha Underground TV tapings.

NEW returns to Bethany this Saturday 1/13 with Flip Gordon vs. Joey Mercury, a 30 Man Rumble featuring former WCW star Glacier and Robbie E. among others and more.   The promotion has one of the busiest schedules of any group today

DON CALLIS COMMENTS ON GOAL FOR FIRST IMPACT WRESTLING TAPING UNDER NEW REGIME

(Maybe booking more consistently and having shit make sense from week to week would be a good goal to start with).

Don Callis, on the Killing The Town podcast, commented on this week's Impact Wrestling tapings in Orlando, which kick off tomorrow, noting, "Heading down to Orlando, looking forward to meeting all the top talent that's on the roster, and yeah, that's coming up. So it's busy. I mean, it was busy going over for match sheets and what not over the flight from Tokyo when I wasn't sleeping because I was exhausted from spending 4 days with our man Chris Jericho. So pretty pumped about that, pretty pumped about some of the changes that Scott and I and the rest of the folks there are looking to make and it's going to be a process. We're not going to change every last single thing on the first show. But there's a long term vision and hopefully people will enjoy the ride. The good news, ratings are way up, we're 310,000 viewers this week so that was good news. So hopefully that continues and people give the show a try and hang in there with us because I think there's going to be lots of fun stuff to do. It's like when Mike Babcock took over the Maple Leafs, he made the comment, "Look, it's not all going to change in one game or in 10 games. It's not going to happen overnight. You've got to build the foundation and you've got to set the table." So that's what we're doing."

Impact Wrestling will begin taping much of its weekly television leading into the 4/22 Lockdown PPV starting tomorrow at 6 PM in Orlando, Florida at Universal Studios.  The promotion will be running every night starting 1/10 through 1/15 with doors opening at 5:30 PM.

The current plan is to hold tapings in March in Canada leading into the PPV itself.

SAMOA JOE INJURY UPDATE

Samoa Joe suffered an injury to his right foot, according to an article released on the WWE website.

Quoting WWE Senior Ringside Physician Chris Amann, the article noted that during his match with Rhyno on last night's Monday Night Raw, Joe felt a "pop" at the bottom of his right foot.

“We took a look and believe he has a plantar fascia rupture, which is a thick tissue rupture under the foot, "said Amann.  "We will get an MRI to confirm. Treatment includes a period of immobilization in a boot with crutches and platelet rich plasma injections.”
