TWO LAWSUITS FILED OVER LUCHA UNDERGROUND CONTRACT ISSUES
Two lawsuits have been filed regarding Lucha Underground's contracts.
Pro Wrestling Sheet reported that El Hijo del Fantasma, who goes by the name King Cuerno on Lucha Underground, filed a lawsuit in California against the El Rey Network and Baba-G Productions, the production company behind LU. In the lawsuit, Fantasma is claiming that both El Rey and Baba-G have illegally restricted him and other wrestlers from “engaging in their lawful profession”.
Documents obtained by Pro Wrestling Sheet said that those under Lucha Underground contracts are making less than $4,000 a year compared to other wrestling promotions who offer a living wage. Fantasma claims to have lost thousands of dollars as a result of the contract, and is seeking both putative and actual damages.
Lucha Central talked to Fantasma’s attorney, Andre Verdun, who said that a class-action lawsuit was being worked on in addition to Fantasma’s suit. The site later reported that Kobra Moon, Joey Ryan, Fantasma and Ivelisse are the names attached to this specific suit.
The situation regarding Lucha Underground contracts has flared up in recent weeks, most notably when Ivelisse wrote a since-deleted statement on social media saying that she was “being legally held hostage” by the company after they wouldn’t release her from her contract following the end of the fourth season.
Lucha Underground hasn’t aired a new episode since November. The fate of the promotion and if it will continue for a fifth season is currently unknown.
AJ STYLES, USOS AND DOLPH ZIGGLER WWE UPDATES
AJ Styles - The former WWE Champion denied he had come to terms with WWE on a new deal on Twitter several days ago. We are told the two sides have been in discussions for some time and that WWE has made a strong play to keep Styles. Obviously, given Styles' relationships with The Young Bucks and others now in the All Elite Wrestling fold, one would think there is strong interest in acquiring him if he opts to leave WWE.
The Usos - It's been told by multiple sources that the duo's current deals are slated to expire in April. WWE has been in discussions with the former Tag Team Champions about a new deal.
Dolph Ziggler - many news sources have been told that the company's "relationship" with Ziggler is continuing.

The NWA is partnering with ROH for the Crockett Cup. It's taking place at Cabarrus Arena in Concord, North Carolina on Saturday, April 27.

Jax Dane & Crimson qualified for the Crockett Cup by defeating Caleb Konley & Jay Bradley at last month's NWA pop-up event. Villain Enterprises (PCO & Brody King) then became the second team to qualify for the Crockett Cup by winning last month's ROH Tag Wars tournament.
Cornette noted that there will be teams from ROH, the NWA, Mexico, Japan, and all over the globe in the Crockett Cup. Tickets for the show go on sale for HonorClub members at 10 a.m. Eastern time tomorrow (Wednesday, February 6). They'll go on sale to the general public at 10 a.m. Eastern this Friday.

Gee, Not THIS again (rolls eyes)- WWE ADVERTISING 'INTERNATIONAL SUPERSTAR SHAKEUP' FOR APRIL
Didn't they JUST DO THIS, acouple months ago? So much for that 'big announcement' that things would be different. The BIG ANNOUNCEMENT translates into what you see here, nothing changes because nothing really is gonna change, LOL. Just go back to the old reliable, yet predictable things that really don't 'shake up' a fucking thing.
The next Superstar Shakeup seems to have a date.
A promo that aired in Canada during Raw last night showed Scott Stanford announcing an ‘International Superstar Shakeup’ that would take place on April 15 and 16 at the Bell Centre in Montreal. The significance of the world ‘international’ wasn’t explained.
The Superstar Shakeup replaced the WWE Draft last year as a way to move Raw wrestlers to SmackDown and vice versa. Whereas the WWE Draft had more formal rules regarding draft picks and trades, the Superstar Shakeup is more vague in the way Raw and SmackDown talent are traded. Last year’s notable jumps included The Miz, Baron Corbin and The Riott Squad to Raw while Asuka, Samoa Joe and Jeff Hardy went to SmackDown.
NXT stars are also included in the Shakeup: Sanity and Andrade went to SmackDown while Drew McIntyre went to Raw.
A Intercontinental title match between champion Bobby Lashley and Seth Rollins was also announced for the Raw taping in Montreal.

Older Posts From My Past When I worked In Wrestling
I went to acouple old Angelfire web pages where I knew I had some older things I posted in the past, and decided to post the links to them here. Especially since some people think they're getting themselves over by flexing their Twitter muscles claiming I never worked in the business and have no understanding of it. Since I love saying that proof is a mother fucker, and I'm a mother fucker who has proof... This always serves as a great reminder to those who flex them Rwitter muscles but really don't, have a clue.
This is an article on an old web page that Evan Ginzburg, associate producer of The Wrestler and 350 Days used to run when he had a monthly newsletter called Wrestling Then And Now. It's about locally promoting my very first show for WWA New England, which was owned by former WWF referee Fred Sparta and would later feature acouple different WWF training Dojos on his shows.
http://www.angelfire.com/wrestling3/thenandnow/articles/promoter.html
In order to be a promoter you usually have to be a resident of the state you're promoting in (If that state has, a commission like NH does), or a company gets someone who lives in that state to help get the licence so they can run shows in that particular state. So I had a TON of interaction with the NH State Boxing And Wrestling Commission.
Two months later in the next town of Farmington, NH I locally promoted a show that had, a WWF Training Dojo on it that featured Jeff Jarrett, Kurt Angle (managed by Dory Funk jr.), William Regal, Walter ' Killer' Kowalski, and more.
Before that was this, How I got my break to work in the business thanks to former WWF wrestler Sylvano Sousa, who owned The Atlantic Wrestling Federation. http://prowrestlingtapes.angelfire.com/awf.html
Then came the chance to work and be the local promoter for WWA New England.
http://prowrestlingtapes.angelfire.com/WWA.html
And after that came the chance to do the same thing and more, for the Eastern Wrestling Alliance (when they were based in Maine).
http://prowrestlingtapes.angelfire.com/ewa.html
All three companies gave me a great opportunity to watch the booking process, watch how some matches were laid out, how 4 half hour TV shows (that the EWA did for a station in Portland, Maine) was done, and to gain knowledge by the very people who still train wrestlers to this day like Tom Prichard and Dory Funk jr. Among others. So while guys like Mike Johnson, Wade Keller, Bruce Mitchell and the at least twenty other sites on Twitter may never had any foot in the door of actually working for a company, I can put guys like Bischoff who's good for saying that writers like myself have no clear understanding of the business in check by showing, I do.. Actually have more than a clue.
Proof is and will always be, a wonderful thing. :)

PCO Reflects On His Initial Run In WWE, His Problems With The Kliq's Shawn Michaels & Diesel
Ring of Honor's PCO recently took the time for an in-depth interview with Sportingnews.com. Among the topics discussed, PCO looked back on his first time being a part of the WWE roster and the controversial way in which he, and others, were released from the company. PCO also anticipates a successful future, and he revealed that ROH has assured him of big plans ahead.
PCO explained that his newfound determination and success as a performer can be attributed to wisdom he's gained through a life in the professional wrestling business. Listening to others, eating right, and learning gymnastics are a few of the tactics PCO incorporates in to his everyday life in hopes to see further success.
"With age comes experience and I'm now at a point in my life where I'm wise enough to realize what I need to do to achieve success, and more importantly, to be happy" PCO said. "I listen to people more these days, when there was a time when I would only listen to myself. I've been wrestling since I was 16 years old so I've been around this crazy world long enough to make my own mistakes and see the mistakes made by others. Back in the day, I would react a lot more different to how I'd handle things now, but to do that takes time and I think that's a big reason why I'm enjoying wrestling today.
"I've listened so much more in the last 18 months than what I have in the 30 years before," PCO continued. "When I made the decision to go all the way with the PCO character, I had to put everything into it. I started to eat right, live right, look after my body so I could give myself the best possible chance of realizing my dream of becoming a world champion in one of the big companies. I enrolled in gymnastics class to get as flexible as possible and now I'm doing moonsaults and backflips easier than I could ever manage. If this is going to be my last run then I had to give it everything from the start."
In WWE, PCO was recognized as Jean-Pierre LaFitte, a descendant of the real-life pirate named Jean LaFitte. Despite a three month feud with Bret Hart and a hopeful future, backstage issues with The Kliq's Shawn Michaels and Diesel would result in PCO's release from WWE. PCO claims that his relationship with Vince McMahon seemed intact after everything occurred, however, WWE "wasn't a nice place to work" and they promptly let him go.
"[The Kliq] had Vince McMahon's ear, I still think I was okay with Vince because he gave the Jean Pierre Lafitte character a lot of support, and allowed me to work with Bret Hart on a regular basis," PCO explained. "Today in 2019, it's very easy to blame the likes of Diesel and Shawn Michaels for whatever happened back then, but I could've handled the situation a lot better too. The main issue for me is that these guys were playing around with the livelihoods of so many people and they didn't care about what financial pressures people were under. The amount of wrestlers they kept down or got fired just so they could keep the money and spotlight on themselves was something that I thought needed to be spoken up about.
"My biggest falling out with them came when I refused to do a job for Diesel when we were working in Montreal," PCO said. "I'd been told the plan was to go back there at some point for another match and I don't believe it made sense for me to lose clean. This made them all go a little bit crazy and soon after I was gone from the WWE. Vince still held me in some regard because he came to me with other ideas, but it wasn't a nice place to work and I got my release a little bit later."
With the stable of Villain Enterprises following alongside him, PCO is ready to make waves in the world of Ring of Honor. PCO revealed that ROH made a big fuss about signing him and they've acknowledged that there are big plans in his future.
"Several things jumped out at me. First, they have a locker room full of the best wrestlers in the world who go out there every single night and never give less than 100% to the fans," PCO said. "Secondly, they made a big fuss of me and convinced me that my future there was going to be a memorable one. When you've spent the bulk of your whole career trying desperately to convince people that you have what it takes and they're unsure, it becomes frustrating. Ring of Honor made it clear from our very first conversation that they wanted me, that they had big plans for me, and that they were fully behind PCO. I've only been here a very short time as it was December when I signed, but I'm happy so far, and please keep watching our shows because they're only going to get better."
More on Les Thornton
Former NWA Junior Heavyweight champion Les Thornton has passed away at the age of 84.
The news first broke on Facebook, where his wife Terry wrote the following (via Slam Sports http://slam.canoe.com/Slam/Wrestling/2019/02/03/22792238.html ): "It is with great sadness we share that Les Thornton peacefully took his leave on February 1, 2019 at 11:15 am, with his devoted wife, Terry at his side."
Born in Manchester, England, Thornton entered professional wrestling in 1957 and at one point trained in Billy Robinson’s Snake Pit, where he learned technical wrestling and submissions. He traveled to the United States in 1970 and won the NWA Junior Heavyweight championship on six occasions between 1980 and 1983.
In 1984, he was one of only a handful of people that joined the WWE when they purchased Georgia Championship Wrestling. He was used primarily as a jobber, but was also a part of coordinating their house shows in the Middle East.
He retired in 1990 and had been living in Canada running a gym prior to his death.
The Facebook post further said: "In honour of Les' wishes there will be no funeral service. Instead, those wishing to pay respects are invited to make a donation to the Calgary Humane Society."

NWA NOTES
The 4/27 Crockett Cup event in Concord, NC will officially go on sale this Friday. Teams already set for the tournament are The War Kings (Jax Dane and Crimson) and Villian Enterprises' Brody King and PCO.
NWA Champion Nick Aldis will defend the title against Leland Race for Harley Race’s World League Wrestling in Moscow Hills, Missouri on 3/9.
NWA National Champion Willie Mack will be working this weekend's Ring of Honor events in Lakeland and Miami, Florida.
Aldis appeared on the Two Man Power Trip Podcast and discussed the importance of being the NWA Champion, commenting, “If like me you are a student of the game and you study the history of the business you understand the significance of the ten pounds of gold, the NWA World Championship. You see the people that have held it and you appreciate the fact that it is the same belt and you are a part of that lineage and that is never something I am not going to take pride in. I'm sure Cody would tell you the same thing if you asked him and almost everyone else who has held it. That is sort of the fundamental answer but the other part of it is that it has been very rewarding to be part of something that was absolutely a start up from the very beginning and pretty much from day one. I was the first guy on the ship and that is a cool feeling because my personal journey was the journey of the actual title and to say that pretty much it was on life support in 2017 and to get to All In on September 1st and in just a little over a year be in pretty much the most talked about match of the year and certainly the best built match and certainly in terms of the emotional response it would be hard pressed to find anything that tops that match and the way we did everything. In many ways it is sort of like a validation of me because I proved that when I was allowed to do things my way I could make this work and I could make it really important and make it mean something. I think the business is about moments. I don't care as much about having a great match as I do having a great moment. Ultimately when you look back at the history of the business financially and from a sentimental point of view it is the moments you remember. You remember Hogan slamming Andre, you remember Rock and Hogan staring down face to face or Steve Austin driving the beer truck and it is the moments. You don't remember every single moment of the match and every single spot, every single headlock, every single armdrag. You remember the moments and that is what I got in the business to do and it was nice to be able to prove that when I was allowed to trust my instincts and do it exactly my way.
LES THORNTON PASSES AWAY
It's been reported the passing of former NWA and World Junior Heavyweight Champion Les Thornton, who passed away at the age of 84 on 2/1. The news of Thornton's passing was first reported by Canada's Slam! Wrestling following a Facebook announcement, which read:
"It is with great sadness we share that Les Thornton peacefully took his leave on February 1, 2019 at 11:15 am, with his devoted wife, Terry at his side. In honour of Les' wishes there will be no funeral service. Instead, those wishing to pay respects are invited to make a donation to the Calgary Humane Society
The British star was considered an incredible in-ring worker and legitimate tough guy, working across the world in Great Britain, Canada's Stampede Wrestling, and a number of National Wrestling Alliance territories, including Texas, Georgia and Los Angeles. He held the NWA Junior Heavyweight Championship on five different occasions. He migrated over to the WWF following the purchase of Georgia Championship Wrestling and was positioned as an undercard talent and coordinated international shows for the company in the Middle East.
Les Thatcher noted:
So very sorry to hear of the passing of Les Thornton at age 84 on February 1st. A serious wrestler & solid worker who always gave you a hell of a match. Go with God my brother & know you will be remembered with love & respect! ??????????????— Les Thatcher (@LesThatcher) February 3, 2019

Gail Kim On Why A Women's Ultimate X Match Wouldn't Work, If She Would Wrestle One More Match
Current producer for Impact Wrestling and Impact Hall of Famer Gail Kim was on a media call recently. Kim spoke about a women's Ultimate X Match and why she didn't think it would work, her controversial refereeing Impact Homecoming, and if she could come out of retirement for one more match.
Kim was asked if the Knockouts division should give an Ultimate X match a try. At Impact Homecoming, Rich Swann defeated Ethan Page, Jake Crist, and Trey Miguel to win the X Division Championship in an Ultimate X Match. Kim said she was approached during her days as an active wrestler about the match, but felt like the women may not have the upper body strength to pull off a comparable match to those in the X Division.
"Someone just asked me that the day of the PPV as they were setting up for that match," Kim began. "It's funny because when I was active years ago, one of the writers had approached me about that and they said, 'Do you think that we should do one?' It's going to probably sound wrong when it comes out of my mouth [Laughs] but I am one who wants the best, so I want the girls to have the best match, I want them to steal the show, and I always felt that way as an active wrestler.
"Truth be told - maybe some women can prove me wrong, but I think that match is a lot of upper body strength and I'm not sure how many girls can execute it to that degree, and I feel like we would be compared to the X Division. Maybe if we come up with something similar, but not the same, I think that would be more realistic. For me, if I had a magical match that I was so proud of, and I had to work the same person after that again, it was always about topping that last thing and being the best. If I didn't feel like I could, I wouldn't want to disappoint, or be less than. In that [Ultimate X] match, I don't know if we would be able to surpass those division guys because they are so super athletic."
At Impact Homecoming, Kim was the special guest referee for Tessa Blanchard and Taya Valkyrie's Impact Knockouts Championship match. Near the end of the bout, Kim ended up getting very involved in the match by accidentally hitting Valkyrie with the title and giving her finisher, Eat Defeat, to Blanchard, which ultimately would cost the former champion her title.
"Yes there was a lot of controversy around my officiating at the Homecoming PPV, but that moment built up to what happened," Kim said. "I'm going to defend myself, Tessa was abusing authority at that point, and a lot of people said, 'Why didn't you just disqualify her?' and that was the easy way out in my mind. When I went into that match, I knew I wasn't going to disqualify her because I just had a feeling of that that's where she'd go."
Kim wrestled her final match last February in the UK, and then took on a producer role with Impact Wrestling where she has worked predominately with the Knockouts division. She has noted previously, and again in this call, that her back is a big reason for her retirement, and still troubles her from time to time. Kim was asked if she could ever do another match and said a lot of factors would come into play for her to give it another go.
"That's a hard question to answer," Kim admitted. "I guess I would say it depends on the circumstances and how far I'm pushed. Also, I think it goes, honestly, by how my body feels at that moment because still to this day since I retired last February my back gives me a lot of problems, on and off. I pretty much look normal in day-to-day life, but that doesn't mean I can have a wrestling match. I am getting an update on my back just to see where it was at because it's been bothering me. If I did feel good and the circumstance did arise, I wouldn't abject to it. There's a lot of factors that play into it, I'd want to see how bad the fans want to see it."
