Vince Russo says Hulk Hogan used his creative control to keep Bret Hart out of TNA Impact Wrestling, looks back at how the drama between Kurt Angle, Jeff Jarrett, and Karen Jarrett affected the company

“Truth With Consequences” Podcast
Hosts: Matt Koon and Vince Russo
Interview available at Omny.fm
Russo on the Karen Angle, Jeff Jarrett and Kurt Angle saga starting: “They use to have these parties. Jeff Jarrett had a reputation of always being the last one at the party. Karen Angle liked to have a good time as well. Kurt Angle was a professional, Kurt would want to do the show and go back to the room and go to bed. How the relationship started was rumors started spreading, Kurt started getting ahold of these rumors. One night in Orlando, it must have been 11/12 at night I got a call from Jeff and his voice was quivering. He said needed to talk to me and I needed to come up to his room. Eventually, right before I went up there, Kurt more or less made his way into Jeff’s room. Jeff was in a hotel room with a very irritate and upset Kurt Angle. I gave all the credit in the world to Kurt Angle for keeping his cool, but he sent a message to Jeff. Brother, I know what’s going on, that night all kinds of meetings because Kurt wanted to quit. Eventually they talked Kurt down and he stayed with the company.”
Russo on the Karen Angle, Jeff Jarrett and Kurt Angle situation destroying TNA: “It was destroying a company. I don’t know it is none of my business but it is a tough position. I am working with Jeff; Jeff is my friend of 20 years. I am very good friends with Kurt, very difficult situation. At this point Jeff wasn’t owning up to the situation. Dixie is irritate at this point, Jeff gave word that nothing is going on with Karen. Jeff tells Dixie Carter nothing is going on. Early one morning, I had some time to kill, I was at Walmart, I was looking at the action figures about 8 am. I get this call and it is Dixie. I had never heard her like this in my life. Why didn’t you f’ing tell me? You made me like a f’ing moron, you are supposed to have my back, I thought I could trust you. I had no idea what she was talking about. Evidently, Jeff had a party at his house and he had invited Dixie to the party. Dixie walks into this party and Jeff and Karen are hosting this party like a married couple. Dixie walked into this party blindsided and made to look stupid.”
TNA almost hiring Jim Ross: “The Fallout from the party is Jeff is done. To get back at Jeff, Dixie gets rid of Jeff’s people (Dutch Mantell and Jim Cornette). Dixie says I am running a wrestling company without Jeff Jarrett, her first phone call is to JR. His contract situation with the WWE was non-existent. JR went up to the Carter compound, they fell in love with JR. JR was going to replace Jeff and run the company. I got on the phone and talked to JR for about three hours, next thing I know is it doesn’t work out. It could have been one of two things. One would be money, two was part of Jim’s deal was he wanted 100 percent control. I think Jim’s relationship he formed with the Carter parents might have scared Dixie a little bit.”
Russo on TNA thinking the signing of Hulk Hogan would push them pass the WWE: “When I almost went back to the WWE in 2002, Hogan was working there then. I had to address the Hogan situation with Vince McMahon. I said, Vince, the last time Hulk Hogan and I were in the same place, things did not turn out well. I was sued, etc. Vince, how I am going to handle this. Vince McMahon said Hulk Hogan is not drawing any money for me at this moment. I will take care of it. Fast Forward to TNA, you would have thought Jesus Christ would have signed with TNA. In my head I am thinking about what Vince McMahon said in 2002. They literally thought the acquisition of Hulk Hogan was going to catapult them over WWE.”
Bret Hart almost coming into TNA: “Here is where it came to head. Bret Hart became available. He had not made amends with Vince McMahon yet, he had not appeared on WWE TV yet. Jeremy Borash and Bret were very very close. I was also a huge fan of Bret Hart. I had the idea of let’s see if Bret wants to come in and be the general manger. We are on board, Ed Ferrera is on board, we pitch Eric Bischoff. Eric is 100 percent over the moon into the idea. We pitch the idea to Dixie, so now Jeremy hooks me up with a phone call to Bret. I talked on the phone with Bret for two hours and Bret is in and I call Dixie to let her know that. However, Hulk Hogan played his creative control card with Bret Hart. He made it clear that he is not working with Bret Hart.”

Austin Aries Reportedly No Longer Under Impact Wrestling Contract

Former Impact Wrestling X-Division Champion Petey Williams was backstage this past Sunday night at Bound For Glory. The main event ended with Johnny Impact winning the Impact World Championship from Austin Aries. Fans were left scratching their heads at the end of the bout as Aries jumped to his feet and left the arena while flipping on the crowd. On his podcast, The Wrestling Perspective Podcast, Williams shed some light on Aries' current status with Impact.
"I'll just say it, straight up," he continued, "I don't know if anybody has said it... Austin Aries' contract is done." The stunning admission seems to leave the door open for a variety of paths for Aries. He could return to the promotion as a firey opponent for Johnny Impact at a later date or just as easily jump to another promotion.
With his contract being up it was noted that Aries is no longer obligated to be at any Impact events going forward. The main event at Bound For Glory was Aries' last match under contract with Impact.

There are two new TV deals in France for New Japan and AAA

There are two new TV deals in France for New Japan and AAA. J-One is airing two hours of New Japan every Saturday afternoon. This is not the AXS show but full unedited PPV matches. They are planning on keeping the show at least through the Tokyo Dome show. Game One is airing AAA in a one hour format every Thursday in prime time with weekend replays. Both shows are months behind, as the Omega vs. Okada Dominion match will be airing in France this coming weekend. AAA will be airing the main event from the 2017 TripleMania show this week. Both are small cable channels so visibility is very limited.

Why Doesn't This Sound Good? Lanny Poffo will be getting a tryout as New Japan announcer

Lanny Poffo will be getting a tryout as New Japan announcer  Poffo on his podcast said that he attended All In and met Michael Craven of New Japan, who asked him if he'd be interested in being a color commentator and he said he thought that would be great. He said he would be in Japan from 10/23 to 11/4, which means he will be doing the announcing of the Power Struggle show in Osaka.

Dave Meltzer Gets Checked Big Time On Twitter

A picture is worth a thousand words. Apparently Meltzer ran his mouth (and has yet to prove this mind you) about morale 'allegedly' being low in the locker room of New Japan Pro Wrestling. As you can see by the shots here, Someone has Taken Meltzer to task on this and.. Per usual? Meltzer seems to be punking up. Which doesn't surprise me because he loves to try and be a Twitter tough guy with fans but when someone actually steps up to him, he has a habit of suddenly getting silent. Nice to see someone make Meltzer 'bitch up' in a way. :)

Update Regarding Austin Aries' Status With Impact Wrestling Following His "no sell" at BFG

After no selling the effects of Johnny Impact's finisher at Bound For Glory last night It's been states that Aries has, "gone home," and will not be attending the Impact Wrestling TV tapings today, or tomorrow. Since Impact tapes weeks, sometimes months, in advance this means that Aries will not be included on Impact Wrestling TV for as long as the tapings are set to run.
Aries has not been fired by Impact Wrestling. It's been speculated that while aspects of the feud may have been real, Aries and Johnny are likely working together now. With that said, the press conference brawl that the two engaged in before BFG does appear to have gotten, "a little out of control." Including one of the sponsors being pushed to the ground in the fracas. Apparently, Anthem and the sponsors had issues with how that press conference went down.

OTT FOURTH YEAR ANNIVERSARY RESULTS: WALTER VS. WILL OSPREAY

OTT Wrestling's Fourth Anniversary Show took place at National Stadium in Dublin, Ireland on Saturday.
- OTT Gender Neutral Champion LJ Cleary defeated Paddy M, Rocky Romero, Raven Creed, and Gino Gambino to retain his title
- OTT Tag Team Champions Kings of the North defeated More Than Hype to retain their titles
There was lots of local support for More Than Hype. The match started fast with a surprise set of dropkicks from More Than Hype, then moved to a brawl to the outside and then back in the ring. Kings of the North then took over until Nathan Martin went psycho for a comeback.
Darren Kearney locked in a half crab submission, but there was a referee distraction and Kearney was hit with a belt shot. The Kings retained with a roll-up. Good match.
- Hirooki Goto & Sean Guinness defeated Satoshi Kojima & Michael May
Lots of bread-related chants and some bread tossed into the ring due to Kojima being the leader of Bread Club. Goto and Kojima started with a nice technical exchange. May and Guinness then tagged in and did a series of acrobatic pinning attempts before Guinness appealed for silence and began a stinging exchange of slaps.
Goto noted this and tagged in, delivering his own version to a loud reaction. Kojima, not to be left out, tagged in and delivered about a dozen rapid fire comedy chops to Goto in the corner to a loud reaction. Kojima played very well to the crowd throughout, but Goto pinned May with a reverse GTR into a GTR.
There was a big reaction for Kojima at the end. There was bread tossed in the ring, May presented a slice to Kojima, and Kojima ate it in the ring to a huge pop.
Scotty Davis defeated Mark Davis
There were "let's go Davis/Davis sucks" chants to start. Mark played the big bruising heel -- and Scotty was the nimble technician. That included Mark holding the much smaller Scotty in a very long vertical suplex. They had a good, solid match. There was again some stinging chops from Mark, but Scotty won via submission.
Mark attacked Scotty after the match.
- The Gymnasties defeated Angel Cruzers & Jimmy Havoc
A funny Angel Cruzers video segment aired at the start. They entered, then Havoc’s video hit and the crowd went nuts. The match started with plenty of plunder being employed outside the ring and then inside. The match hit a lull until Havoc brought out the thumbtacks, sprinkling them on the center of the ring. They did reversals of moves to avoid being slammed on the thumbtacks until one of the Gymnasties landed on them.
They brawled to the outside and onto the entrance stage. Angel Cruz headed backstage and returned with two light tubes, but he missed his strike and accidentally hit Havoc. The action returned to the ring, where Angel Cruz gave the Shield powerbomb to the Gymnasties with the aid of valets.
A bleeding Jimmy Havoc arrived, blasted Cruz with the light tube, and the Gymnasties got the win. Havoc then beat up Cruz in the aftermath.
- Tomohiro Ishii defeated KUSHIDA
Ishii is just great. Both guys got a huge reaction, and they had a very good match. A few slight botches turned into the story of the match with KUSHIDA targeting Ishii’s arm, so Ishii struggled to perform certain moves. There was amazing subtle selling by Ishii throughout.
Ishii toughed it out and won with a brainbuster.
Tetsuya Naito, EVIL & SANADA defeated Shane Strickland, Bandido & Flamita
Strickland, Bandido, and Flamita got a big reaction, but it felt like the roof almost blew off when LIJ made their entrance. Naito messed with the referee a bit to start, having him hold the ropes for him and then rolling in instead and slowly disrobing and squaring off to the ref before the opening bell.
The crowd reacted massively throughout. It started with an incredibly fast pace, with them doing lots of very nimble exchanges. SANADA tied up Flamita with a Paradise Lock into a dropkick. There was a "one more time" chant from the crowd -- and SANADA obliged. There was a second "one more time" chant -- and SANADA apologized and tagged in Naito.
They brawled through the aisle in three different directions at one point and Naito briefly opened an umbrella. Naito hit the Destino on Flamita and handed him over to SANADA, who locked in the Skull End for the win.
Naito grabbed Flamita's mask and wore it as a hat in triumph. Strickland appealed for its return, but Naito refused and they limped to the back while LIJ basked in the cheers.
- Minoru Suzuki defeated Timothy Thatcher
Suzuki entered to a huge reaction and a thunderous Kaze Ni Nare. The crowd was 100 percent behind Suzuki, who played the wily veteran to Thatcher's bigger grappler. They did several long exchanges of holds with Suzuki's experience coming out on top. They also did blistering exchanges of blows where it ended up with Suzuki leveling the larger Thatcher to a big reaction.
The finish was Suzuki hitting the Gotch piledriver. He left to cheers and another Kaze Ni Nare.
- OTT Champion WALTER defeated Will Ospreay to retain his title
A vignette played to start with Ospreay selling the match hard. Ospreay came out to a big reaction, and the crowd was very hot at this point. Ospreay attempted to avoid being controlled by WALTER. He kept the match at a rapid pace and avoided WALTER's chops until WALTER hit a mid-air one.
The match had consistent strong crowd reaction throughout. They did a huge number of standout spots, Ospreay went for a Rainmaker and WALTER no sold it, knocked Ospreay down, and did the Rainmaker pose to boos. WALTER went for a ripcord chop later, which Ospreay reversed into a Rainmaker, maintained wrist control, and went for another.
There was a false finish where it looked like WALTER pinned Ospreay, but Ospreay got his foot on the ropes and the ref restarted the match. Ospreay got two incredible near falls off an OsCutter and top rope powerbomb that had everyone on their feet counting. WALTER locked in a sleeper to Ospreay and they did the hand drop spot that Ospreay hulked up out of. WALTER ended up retaining to a chorus of boos.
Ospreay had a bad landing, spoke to the ref, got up and hit a superkick, Ridgeway rolled through and got a choke and Osrpeay tapped immediately. Medics came to the ring and helped him to the back. An ambulance was there as well. We don't know that this wasn't storyline related but the impression of fans was that it wasn't.

Road Warrior Animal Reveals His One Regret In Pro Wrestling

Road Warrior Animal recently appeared on X-Pac 12360. You can download the podcast version on iTunes or Android, they sent us these highlights:

His best time in wrestling and favorite territory:
"In the States here it would have to be the NWA days. I mean back in the late 80's when we would be in the same city, just say Philadelphia. As WWF would be in and WWF would be selling out the Philadelphia Spectrum and we'd be selling out at the Civic Center. One held twenty-four and one held twenty-two thousand people the same night. And that was a fun time in the business when we would go to major cities like that. I think the NWA for me and Japan for us because this business is about getting treated with respect. And when we were in Japan there were never any headaches, it's always a respectful tour, it was always fun. There was never any hang-ups or attitudes. Business was business. If a guy needed to go over you got him over and if a guy needed to get beat he got beat. It just was what it was. The egos weren't like today business where someone goes through a camp and thinks he can be champ the next day. Unfortunately, that's the way the business has groomed guys today. But I think the NWA days because we had great teams to fight too. We had the Koloffs, The Midnight Express, we had the Four Horsemen."
His one regret in pro wrestling:
"The only thing that I regret in the wrestling business is, Hawk and I would've loved, and we threw this idea around in WWE at the time - 'Why don't you put us in a six-man match with Hulk (Hogan) and take it around the country?' Because we would have loved to have been in a match with the Hulk as our partner. That would have been awesome."
The Japanese influence on today's wrestling:
"The Japanese influence has always been there, the only thing that is different now is there are different TV outlets today for them to get over here. With the Internet and Youtube and everything else, they started slowly creeping over, creeping over and now with Fite TV on the Internet everybody gets to be on TV. It just goes to show you when you sell out a place like Madison Square Garden in fifteen minutes for New Japan. And New Japan always had a great reputation from the wrestling fans who read magazines for being the top company over there and All Japan. I mean those were always the two companies that everybody wanted to go over and work for. Fortunately, for me, I got to work for about four different companies. Most of it was with New Japan and All Japan."

Don Callis Gets 'rid the silliness' In Impact By Doing THIS, David Arquette To Make Impact Wrestling Pay-Per-View Debut,

Former WCW World Heavyweight Champion worked a tag team match at Border City Wrestling's 25th Anniversary show from the St. Clair College Gymnasium in Windsor, Ontario, Canada this past weekend. The match will air on the Impact Wrestling One Night Only pay-per-view that premieres Friday, November 9 on their Global Wrestling Network.
Arquette teamed with RJ City to defeat "Halal Beefcake" Joe Coleman and Idris Abraham. No word yet on if this could lead to an official Impact TV debut for Arquette but he recently started making more indie appearances and even visited WWE HQ last month, presumably for some sort of filming. This Bullshit Is STILL going on? (Rolls eyes) JARRETT, GLOBAL FORCE FILE AMENDED LAWSUIT AGAINST IMPACT WRESTLING OWNER ANTHEM

And believe me, nobody gives two shits about those OLD, boring ass GFW Amped shows that were taped way back when, when Jarretrt kept claiming a tv deal was coming, but never really did.

Impact Wrestling founder Jeff Jarrett and his company, Global Force Entertainment LLC filed an amended lawsuitagainst Impact Wrestling owner Anthem Sports & Entertainment Corp. and its subsidiary Anthem Wrestling Exhibitions, LLC (which contains Impact Wrestling) on 10/10 in the United States District Court of Tennessee.
The 27-page amended lawsuit features many of the same allegations from the initial filing, claiming that Anthem has:
*Violated state and federal trademark infringements in relation to GFE.
*Violated Jeff Jarrett’s exclusive property rights to his own name, photograph, and other likeness.
*That Anthem has used “a reproduction, counterfeit, copy, or colorable imitation of the GLOBAL FORCE WRESTLING and GFW trademarks” in commerce, therefore they are in violation of the Lanham Act, which prohibits trademark infringement, trademark dilution, and false advertising.
*The lawsuit also claims violation of the Lanham Act through alleged “acts of unfair competition” that were done “with the intent to deceive the public into believing that goods and services offered or sold by Defendants are made by, approved by, sponsored by, or affiliated with GFE.”
*That Anthem has "caused products and/or services to enter interstate commerce designated with variations" of the Global Force Wrestling and GFW trademarks.  The filing claimed, "Defendants’ use of said designation and other representations constitute a false designation of origin which is likely to cause confusion, to cause mistake, and to deceive as to the affiliation, connection, or association of Defendants with GFE and as to the origin, sponsorship, or approval of such goods and services by GFE."  This allegation would be an alleged violation of the Lanham Act.
*That Anthem was involved in “Unfair Competition in Violation of Tennessee Common Law”, alleging, “GFE and Defendants compete for a common pool of customers. As alleged herein, Defendants have engaged in unfair, deceptive, or fraudulent conduct, which is likely to cause, if it has not already, customer confusion in violation of Tennessee common law.”
The lawsuit also claims that Anthem has unjustly enriched themselves through their actions and violated the Tennessee Consumer Protection Act, claiming, “Defendants have violated and, upon information and belief, continue to violate GFE’s exclusive rights in the GFW Amped content and the 16 associated copyrights, including, but not limited to, the right to reproduce, right to prepare and sell derivative works, and right to vend by copying, publishing, distributing, and publicly displaying in the marketplace in this District, and in all  marketplaces reached by the Internet, videos that were copied or otherwise derived from the GFW Amped content.”
The filing claims that Anthem approached Jarrett and GFE in October 2016 to initial discussions about merging Jarrett’s company with Anthem Sports “in exchange for membership and equity in Anthem Sports” that would also have included hiring Jarrett as Chief Creative Officer.  The two sides signed a non-disclosure agreement on 12/9/16, a copy of which was included in the amended lawsuit, immediately sealed by court.
Jarrett signed a consultant deal with Anthem in January 2017 and at that point “Mr. Jarrett provided the only set of masters for the 16 one-hour episodes of GFW Amped content to Defendants”, who the lawsuit claims still have the only copy of the masters.
Jarrett and Anthem signed a deal in May 2017 regarding Jarrett coming on officially as the Chief Creative Officer of Anthem Wrestling as well as an agreement regarding a merger for Anthem to acquire GFE, including ownership of the GFW Amped content.  That merger was publicly announced by Anthem at that time.   The Amended lawsuit included a filing of the May 2017 deal memo between the two sides (which the court has sealed) regarding Jarrett's employment and Anthem's takeover of GFE, noting that "Page 5 of the term sheet makes clear that GFE owns all GFW Amped content."
As has been well documented, Jarrett took a leave of absence from the company in September 2017, followed by the public announcement that Anthem had let him go the following month.  All of that was in the wake of personal problems that led to Jarrett going into rehab with the assistance of WWE.  Jarrett was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame earlier this year.
In the lawsuit, Jarrett alleges that after he was terminated by Anthem, the announced merger between GFE and Anthem never went through and that “despite Anthem Wrestling’s acknowledgement of GFE’s ownership of all GFW Amped content, Defendants reproduced, distributed, publicly displayed, offered for sale, and sold the GFW Amped content without providing any compensation or royalties to GFE or Mr. Jarrett.”
The lawsuit points out that Anthem promoted several PPVs under the GFW Amped name (utilizing content that was originally designed to be a GFW weekly TV series that had been taped in Las Vegas), airing them from July 2017 through December 2017.   The lawsuit also alleges., “Upon information and belief, Defendants continue to monetize the GFW Amped content as pay-per-view, premium television, streaming, and other viewing options on a worldwide scale,” specifically mentioning the Global Wrestling App and DVDs sold via the Impact Wrestling website.    Shortly after the original lawsuit was filed, Impact's website removed all GFW DVDs for sale.
The lawsuit claims that Anthem does not have a license to use the GFW Amped content, GFE's trademarks or Jeff Jarrett's name or image "in connection to GFW Amped content."  The lawsuit also claims that Jeff Jarrett and GFE have each suffered "irreparable harm and loss of goodwill", which cannot be "completely remedied" in part because "given the nature of the advertising and promoting the loss of identifiable consumers is not readily obtainable."
GFE and Jarrett are seeking an injunction that would prevent Anthem from copying, distributing, offering for sale, selling, and displaying the GFW Amped content.   The injunction, if it is issued, would also prevent Anthem from using the Global Force Wrestling and GFW words and logo and anything similar, including “but not limited to, Global Wrestling Network, GWN, and the GWN logo” – which means that if Jarrett and GFE are successful, Anthem would have to immediately suspend the operations of their streaming subscription service under its current Global Wrestling Network name.
The lawsuit also asks the court to order Anthem and anyone associated with them to delete or destroy any copies of the GFW content, with the exception of the masters, which are to be returned to GFE.   GFE is seeking “an award of punitive and/or treble damages for at least three times the amount of Defendants’ profits or GFE’s damages, whichever is greater, due to the nature of Defendants’ wanton and willful conduct.”
Jarrett and GFE have requested a jury trial.
Anthem and Impact were slated to respond to the initial lawsuit filing by 10/15, but that timetable will be thrown out by the court in order to allow time for Anthem to respond to the amended complaint.  So, by filing the new complaint, Jarrett effectively reset the clock for Anthem.
