Despite it being a house show, the storyline of the Bullet Club’s ongoing split continued at NJPW’s event in Melbourne today. In a post-match promo, Cody Rhodes said Bullet Club is fine and Matt Jackson replied that it isn’t because things aren’t right with Kenny Omega. Omega later used the Cross Rhodes on Rocky Romero before hitting him with the One Winged Angel to win the show’s six-man tag main event, which featured Omega and Okada squaring off on opposite sides.

Billy Corgan On How Vince McMahon Handles Top Tier WWE Talent

NWA Owner Billy Corgan stopped by Busted Open Radio to talk pro wrestling, future plans with NWA, and how Vince McMahon deals with top tier WWE talent. Corgan was asked about how he handles the backstage politics within his company and Corgan looked to McMahon as an example on how to handle egos.

"To me, is it ultimately good for the business, you know what I mean? Talent should have a chip on their shoulder, they should want to be champion, they should all be pushing forward," Corgan said. "I don't know Vince McMahon personally, but I look at the way Vince has run the WWE and I think that's a good example. At the end of the day, does it serve the goals of the bigger company? You've seen times in the history of the WWE where a talent will sort of outgrow the agenda of the WWE, and out the door they go. Because they get too big a head and they think they're bigger than the company. And at the end of the day what's good for the company is good for the talent, but it's not always the other way around."

Corgan officially took over ownership of the NWA in October of last year and is looking to rebuild a promotion that has fallen off the radar for wrestling fans over the past few decades. Using a more calculated, long-term approach to building a foundation and new fan base, Corgan has previously said they expect to start running free shows online in the Spring.

Published on Feb 15, 2018
Does James Ellsworth stand a chance against the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion Nick Aldis? This is the entire match from The Aldis Crusade with Ten Pounds of Gold. James Ellsworth is first challengerfor the Ten Pounds of Gold during this historic crusade by the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion.

James Ellsworth came within a half of a second of defeating AJ Styles for the WWE Worlds Championship. This match was set up as a "day off" by Nick Aldis manager Austin Idol. This selection by Idol has been quite polarizing by fans on the merits and skill of James Ellsworth. He is the first of the twenty men to challenge for the famous Ten Pound of Gold title. James Ellsworth has wrestled AJ Styles, Braun Strowman, Becky Lynch and many more in WWE. Nick Aldis wants to prove what kind of champion he is during The Aldis Crusade with Ten Pounds of Gold. Charges were dropped but yet, RICH SWANN RELEASED BY WWE

Fire the guy even though the charges were dropped. hhhmmm Sounds petty to me if you ask me.

WWE announced today that 205 Live star Rich Swann, 27-years old, had been released by the company with the following statement on their website:

"Rich Swann and WWE have mutually agreed to part ways as of today, February 15, 2018.  WWE wishes Swann the best in all of his future endeavors."

Obviously, while it won't be stated as such, it was fallout of Swann's arrest in December 2018 where he was charged with false imprisonment/kidnapping and a misdemeanor charge of battery- touching or striking.  The victim in the alleged incident was Swann's wife, Vannarah Riggs, who performs as Su Yung on the independent wrestling scene and earlier this year, debuted for Impact Wrestling.

WWE immediately suspended Swann under the company's domestic violence policy, which states, "WWE has zero tolerance for matters involving domestic violence, child abuse and sexual assault. Upon arrest for such misconduct, a WWE talent will be immediately suspended. Upon conviction for such misconduct, a WWE talent will be immediately terminated."

In the days following the incident, Swann's wife had publicly posted positive comments about her husband on social media.  The charges were later dropped due to "insufficient evidence" according to court records.

Swann's attorney, Ian Pickens, issued the following statement in the wake of the charges being dropped: "We are very pleased with the resolution of these charges. We would like to thank the State Attorney’s Office for conducting a thorough investigation, as well as Mr. Swann’s family, friends, and fans that supported him through this.   During our representation of Mr. Swann, we have come to know him as a kind and humble young man, who we believe has a bright future ahead of him. We are hopeful that with the dismissal of these charges Mr. Swann will be able to return to the WWE and our firm will do everything we can to assist him in returning to the ring. Thank you.”

As it turned out, WWE never brought Swann, who had been in a storyline where he was poised to challenge then-WWE Cruiserweight champion Enzo Amore, back.

Swann was signed by WWE to a NXT deal in 2015 after several years of headlining for EVOLVE and touring Japan with Dragon Gate.  The charismatic talent was brought to prominence in WWE as part of the Cruiserweight Classic, where he talked of pro wrestling saving his life in the wake of the deaths of his parents.

One would assume Swann will resume performing on the independent scene, possibly after a ninety-day no compete plays out

Boy was this pretty predictable. IMPACT REDEMPTION PPV LOCATION

The 4/22 Impact Wrestling Redemption PPV will take place at the Impact Zone in Orlando, Florida, the company announced this afternoon.

The original plan for the event was to hold it in Toronto, but no venue was ever officially locked in and Toronto was never officially announced.

Does the name James Ellsworth belong on that list? The Aldis Crusade with Ten Pounds of Gold kicked off at Championship Wrestling From Hollywood this past Sunday. UPDATE ON FLOSPORTS VS. WWNLIVE LAWSUIT

A pre-trial conference in the lawsuit Flosports filed against WWNLive last year is set for 2/27 before Judge Lee Yeakel in the United States District Court for the Western District of Texas, Austin Division.

What is interesting about that conference is that on 12/28, Judge Yeakel signed an order referring the WWNLive motion claiming that the lawsuit against them should not be heard in Texas for lack of jurisdiction to another Judge,  Andrew W. Austin.  Judge Austin has not, to the best of anyone's   knowledge, issued a ruling on that matter.

Flosports filed a motion on 12/22/17 seeking to have WWNLive's previous request for the lawsuit the streaming provider brought against them shut down.    Flosports' lawsuit, seeking $1 million in damages, revolves around allegations that WWN, run by Sal Hamaoui and Gabe Sapolsky, had "robbed Flosports" by provided false information that led to the streaming provider paying inflated prices for WWN content.

In the motion Judge Austin has yet to issue a ruling on, WWN argued that the Texas court lacks the jurisdiction to rule over their company, as they are based in Florida while their top executives, Hamaoui and Sapolsky, reside in Florida and Massachusetts, respectively.  Flosports has instead claimed that WWN, by entering into their agreement with Floslam, realized that Flo was a Texas-based company and therefore, fell under Texas law.  Flosports has previously noted that Hamaoui traveled to Texas to meet with Flosports and then physically signed the agreement between the two companies while in Texas.  They also stated that when WWNLive signed their five year deal with the company, they agreed to be governed by Texas law.

Flosports has claimed that WWNLive had misled their company, claiming WWN had, "induced FloSports to enter this Exclusive Media Agreement (“the Agreement”) by misrepresenting the number of fans purchasing viewership access to their events, and that representation and warranty was expressly incorporated into the parties’ written contract. In fact, WWN contractually promised that “all data [it] provided . . . regarding financial performance of events [it] put on . . . was accurate, reliable and truthful.” FloSports paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to WWN in reliance on this promise. But WWN’s data was false. When pressed for the data that backed up WWN’s representations, WWN originally claimed the data was lost or deleted. Ultimately, WWN sent records listing subscribers more than once and including customers who had not purchased broadcast services. Even accounting for that artificial inflation of its viewership, WWN’s numbers proved far less than originally represented."

Flosports has also argued against WWNLive's claims that the company did not run regularly in Texas since WWNLive had promoted six events in the Lone State State.  It should be noted that many of those were due to the timing and location of WWE's Wrestlemania being held in Dallas in 2016 and that WWN had not run Texas prior to that point and did not run there again until after the WWNLive-Flosports agreement was signed.  Had Wrestlemania not been in Texas, obviously WWNLive would not have promoted here.  Flosports also noted that WWN would have returned to Texas in November 2017 had Flosports not severed their agreement.

Flosports has argued "WWN’s physical presence in Texas during these multiple stages of the Agreement distinguishes this case from any authority cited by WWN" and that WWN's relationship with Flosports required continued travel to Texas.

Flosports also argued that their agreement called for a long-term relationship between the two companies, including Flofilms being tapped to produce films designed to promote WWNLive events, three of which had been produced at the time the relationship was severed and that WWN.  Two of the films featured Matt Riddle and another was an "All Access" film surrounding the WWNLive More Then Mania event.  Flosports stated they also teamed in the production of WWNLive events and cited that a document review to "has revealed at least 368 emails sent from WWN to FloSports in Texas during the course of the parties’ dealings, in addition to voluminous text messages, several conference calls between the parties, and the in-person meetings."

So, Flosports argued that since the agreement led to each side working together in Texas, the case should be heard in Texas.  They are also arguing that since Gabe Sapolsky was involved from Massachusetts, where he resides, "so his share of communications and contractual activity occurred outside of Florida as well."   Flosports noted that their payments to WWN came from Texas and that WWN's streams originated from Flosports' headquarters in Austin, Texas.

The filing featured statements from Tobey Mergler, the former Vice President of Global Rights Acquisition for FloSports and Phil Wendler, the current Senior Vice President of Global Rights Acquisition and Subscription that, interestingly, are now redacting the subscription numbers that Hamaoui provided to Flosports, despite those numbers having been previously revealed in court and publicly reported by PWInsider.com and other outlets.

The contract between Flosports and WWNLive was revealed in the November 2017 filings, noting that it called for WWN to be paid $75,000 in 2016, $500,000 in 2017, $550,000 in 2018, $605,000 in 2019, $670,000 in 2020 and $740,000 in 2021.

The contract also called for incentives to be paid to WWN under the following conditions: "In addition to the Rights Fee described in Section 3a, FloSports will pay an incentive to Events Rights Holder if financial performance exceeds specified levels.  Events Rights Holder will receive the greater of the Rights Fee listed in Section 3a or 30% of total Net Cash attributed to WWN over the course of the year. Example: Net cash in 2017 equals $1,000,000. Events Right Holder receives a total of $500,000. Net cash in 2018 equals $3,000,000. Events Right Holder receives a total of $900,000."

The contract required Flosports to promote the WWNLive events promising they would  "provide $250,000 of advertising value per year on FloSports (i.e. custom digital display, email newsletters, social media, editorial previews/coverage/recaps, etc.)."   How that amount of advertising value may have been tallied is not directly explained in any of the court documents, but Flosports' amended lawsuit claimed, "FloSports performed on the Agreement and spent hundreds of thousands of dollars pursuant to its terms, including on its advertising spend for WWN and in the fees paid directly to WWN—all in reliance on WWN’s breached warranty and misrepresentations."

The now redacted spreadsheet lists buys for WWNLive events held in 2015 and 2016.  For EVOLVE events, buys ranged from 539-2,479 purchases with the events on the higher end being shows specifically promoted by WWE online.  SHINE iPPVs ranged from 525-729 buys.  Full Impact Pro events ranged from 24 buys to 288 buys.

Back in September 2016, after news of the lawsuit broke, many news sites   reported we had been "told that in actuality, in 2016, WWN (on average) was doing in the area of 1,300 iPPV buys for EVOLVE, 600-700 for SHINE and less than 200 buys for FIP events while selling those events. The year before, which they also provided to FloSports, those numbers were lower and the EVOLVE numbers were said to have been way up from the year before because WWE was promoting that brand."

It should be noted that the numbers in the lawsuit filings match up with what WWNLive sources claimed to PWInsider.com shortly after the suit was filed and if anything, showcase that Flosports moved forward into the agreement despite knowing what numbers WWNLive was bringing in - which of course calls some of their allegations into question.

In the Amended lawsuit, Flosports alleged, "During the first year of the Agreement’s term, FloSports became suspicious that WWN’s data was inaccurate. Over the course of several months, FloSports repeatedly asked WWN to send FloSports more detailed data to support the original spreadsheet. WWN failed to comply, alleging that the information was lost or deleted.    On August 18, 2017, WWN finally emailed the detailed viewership records, which contained additional misrepresentations: the records listed customers more than once and added purchasers of DVDs to the records, rather than limiting its numbers to the broadcast subscribers as it had promised were reflected in the original spreadsheet. Even with this fraudulent inflation of its data, the records showed viewership numbers far less than those reflected in the October 2016 spreadsheet, proving that WWN’s original representations were false."

WWNLive had previously responded to that, claiming, "That data was pulled from and compiled by a now-defunct third-party company named Fineline Hosting that was based in Florida."

What is interesting is that while Flosports alleges that, "Among the promises WWN made in the Agreement was that “all data provided by [WWN] regarding past financial performance of events put on by [WWN] was accurate, reliable and truthful.” - yet there is no language regarding that data (truthful or not) in the agreement filed with the court.

The lawsuit also alleges that "WWN breached the Agreement by failing to adequately perform under its terms, including its provision of inaccurate, unreliable, and false viewership data to FloSports" yet the Agreement filed with the court lists no description of what "adequately performing" would be.

Instead, based on the two page agreement, WWN was to produce events, handling the management of the video production (at no cost to Flosports) including Planning, Logistics and Production Teams, required video equipment including a two camera shoot, an Encoder to deliver the live stream to Flosports, personnel to "manage and run the video production for all events", Internet with a minimum upload speed of 5 mbps for all events, delivery of a fully produced live stream via RTMP feed to Flosports and that WWNLive would produce and deliver five live events per month (with the exception of December, where they were only required to produce three events).  The agreement noted, "The quality of the events should be reasonably similar or better than the same events in 2015 and 2016 through the Term of the Contract."

It is also interesting to note the following language in the contract: "FloSports has the right to terminate this Agreement by providing notice during the month of January each year, starting in 2018. If FloSports exercises this option, the agreement will continue for 12 months after the date of notification before terminating."

It should be pointed out that Flosports terminated their deal with WWN in September of 2017 (well before January 2018) shortly after filing their lawsuit.  So, by the letter of the contract, a judge could potentially consider an argument from WWNLive that Flosports actually breached their own deal.

While Flosports' lawsuit alleges that "In fact, WWN contractually promised that “all data [it] provided . . . regarding financial performance of events [it] put on . . . was accurate, reliable and truthful.” - the legalese in the two page agreement between the two sides that was filed with the court on 11/27 does not appear to cover any other sort of termination of the deal, including whether the deal could be halted or terminated if the records provided by WWNLive Inc. actually turned out to be incorrect.

The FloSlam streaming service officially launched in October 2016, but many news sites  were told by sources that conversations with WWN began as early as January 2016.  At that point, FloSlam was hoping to make deals with WWN, Ring of Honor and New Japan Pro Wrestling.  In the end, WWN signed with FloSports first and the other two companies passed.  The majority of the content on the streaming service came from WWNLive until their relationship was severed in September 2017.  Since then, Flosports has shuttered the entire service.

WWNLive sources have previously told various sources that they would be filing a counter-suit against Flosports, but as of this writing, that has not yet been filed.

Since the lawsuit was filed, WWNLive.com's Gabe Sapolsky has signed a consultancy deal with World Wrestling Entertainment, which is interesting for several reasons.  One, WWE was an investor in Flosports, which means the company they invested in is now suing someone WWE is paying contractually.  Two, with Sapolsky working more and more on the WWE NXT brand, his future working with WWN itself has to be put into question - after all, if WWE requires more commitment and responsibility from Sapolsky, it's just a matter of time before he would have to extricate himself from the day to day of WWN and its family of promotions.

WWN's EVOLVE promotion will hold its 100th event this Saturday at La Boom in Queens, NY featuring eaturing EVOLVE champion Zack Sabre Jr. vs. Austin Theory with Priscilla Kelly, WWN champion Keith Lee vs. AR Fox, EVOLVE Tag Team champions Chris Dickinson & Jaka vs. The End, Matt Riddle vs. James Drake, Tracy Williams with Stokely Hathaway vs. Anthony Henry, Fred Yehi vs. Dom Garrini and a three-way with Darby Allin vs. Jason Kincaid vs. Jarek 1:20 with Candy Cartwright scheduled.

Impact Wrestling stuff, and How NWA can use Impact footage.

Announced for tomorrow's edition of Impact Wrestling is Sami Callihan vs. Bobby Lashley.   Lashley, who has departed the company, is now contractually free to appear anywhere he chooses.

There's been talk of late that former ECW live events booker Greg Bagarozy could be coming in to help book venues for Impact.  We are told that Impact Wrestling Director Michael Vedder has suggested Bagarozy for the role.   A lot of people have been praising Vedder's work since he came back in to the company.

We have gotten a few questions on how the NWA is able to use TNA/Impact footage on their videos.  There is some sort of working relationships between the two sides stemming out of Anthem's settlement with Billy Corgan last year.  The two sides have mad multiple meetings about how Anthem and the NWA can work together, but Corgan has had those discussions with lots of other companies as well.

Well well, it's gone from scared to posting my comment to deleting it, LOL!

I posted about this earlier and now the above pic (which was saved in case of something like this, :) ) which I made at https://www.pwtorch.com/site/2018/02/11/impact-hits-misses-2-1-sonjay-dutt-commentary-allies-admirer-x-division-disappointment-continues-raji-repackaging-press-conference/  has gone from 'awaiting moderastion' to total deletion (Pardon the Matt Hardy pun, lol)

As I thought, Andrew Soucek, "PWTorch Specialist" became a specialist in deleting truthful comments. That would never be the case here but obviously is, over at Pro Wrestling Torch.

Chris Jericho On Early Problems In WWE, Initial Idea For Highlight Reel, Drugs, Steve Austin Story

Pro wrestling great Chris Jericho stopped by 317 Gimmick Street for a conversation with WWE Hall Of Fame Steve Austin. Among many other things, Jericho talked about the first time he met Austin, his transition to WWE from WCW, his original concept for the Highlight Reel, and how he was able to avoid many of the trappings of pro wrestling.

Jericho claimed that he first met Austin on a plane while he was still in WCW and Austin was in WWE.

"I met [Austin] on a plane one time and [Austin] gave me the greatest line of all time." Jericho continued, "no, [Austin was not rude]. It was a great line! I was walking on the plane. It was one of those rare moments when you would see WWE and WCW on the same plane. And [Austin] walked by me and [Austin] said, 'hey'. I only knew Steve Austin. I was like, 'hey,' he was like, 'hey, there's a gay guy on the plane.' I said, 'really?' He goes, 'yeah, give me a kiss and I'll tell you who it is.'"

Apparently, Jericho faced a very difficult transition from WCW to WWE. The self-described 'Man Of 235 Holds' admitted that he did not even know what bumping and feeding a comeback meant when he arrived at Titan Tower.

"I came in as a heel, so I had no problem." Jericho recalled, "I didn't know you weren't supposed to talk s--t about The Undertaker in a promo or talk bad about Steve Austin in a promo! That's what heels do to babyfaces! Right? But I learned very quickly that that's not what heels do when they first come in. I had no idea! Nobody ever taught me that in WCW. They didn't even tell me how to bump and feed a comeback. I had been in WCW for three years and I had no idea what that even meant as crazy as it sounds right now."

During the inteview, Jericho explained that he realized early on in WWE that he could change people's opinions of him by working well with mid level talents.

"I knew I can't win with [Triple H] and DX." Jericho remembered, "and Rocky was always cool and [Austin] was in and out. [Austin was] always on your own, but [he was] always cool to me. But what I did was I worked really hard always, but I knew if I could get over with the bullpen, with the mid level guys, that would bleed up to the top. Bob Holly, those type of guys, JBL, Bradshaw at the time, working with those types, Rikishi, having great matches night after night, after night, with those guys, where I was programmed, word gets around, 'hey, that guy's not an asshole. You guys are talking s--t about him, but he's really good and he's a really good guy.' That really helped to alleviate some of the tension that was there."

According to Jericho, his original idea for the Highlight Reel was to provide a forum for impromptu interviews with underutilized talent.

"My initial idea was learning from one of the greatest, I don't know what you would call him, backstage interviewers, was Gene Okerlund who could lead you through a backstage promo even if you didn't know what you were doing. Right?" Jericho added, "my idea when I started the Highlight Reel was I wanted to be the Gene Okerlund, have guys that didn't get promo time, and let me do an improv promo. Let's see what they've got. Of course, that did not fly with Vince. He wanted an actual promo segment with top level guys."

On the subject of drugs and the pitfalls of the road, Jericho indicated that he stayed away from opioids because drugs never interested him. While Jericho experimented with so-called magic mushrooms, his drug of choice remains alcohol, as he enjoys to drink it in, man.

"I was never interested." Jericho considered, "I don't do drugs. Why would I want to do drugs? And I just never started with any of that. I never did any of the pills even back in Calgary [Canada] and Mexico, guys that I'd hang with would do all the pills. I just didn't! I don't know why. Still to this day, I've never done cocaine in my life. Never! I just never had the desire to for whatever reason. No. Never once. Yeah, I mean, I did 'shrooms and that sort of scene and that sort of thing. I just liked having a drink. The guys I ran with just liked to have a drink."

    Ivory (Lisa Moretti) Interview.

The newly named WWE Hall of Famer Ivory a.k.a. Lisa Moretti gave comments to ESPN on today's announcement.

On what being inducted means to her:

"[This Hall of Fame recognition] means that it's a full circle in your career, in your wrestling chapter. It's great bragging rights for your family that have seen you go through the eras and I also feel like it's an awesome tribute to the women in wrestling as a whole."

On the excitement Ivory feels for the ceremony:

"I liken it to almost getting married, it's my wedding day, which I've never had one, so, this is probably as close to a wedding production as I'll ever get," Ivory said. "Hair and makeup, I will be speaking my vows -- with regards to my wrestling career -- to all these people I adore and love and we want it to all happen without a hitch."

On making the cover of Entertainment Weekly in 1999 with Steve Austin to promote the success of Smackdown on UPN

"I don't think either one of us at the time knew what an honor that was -- to be having her (photographer Mary Ellen Mark) take our photograph," Ivory said. "That was a highlight for me -- it's small because it's not taking bumps or a big pay per view event or a big championship, but that was one of those amazing sidebar things that I got to do."

On what Ivory thinks about the worldwide appeal women's wrestling now has:

"Women who decide to wrestle are a special type of women. We are tomboys, we are women that can hang in a locker room. I am just grateful that there are outlets for that," she said. "It's not about having a certain body type and looking picture perfect beautiful. It's about having the drive and some kind of wacky attraction you have to the physicality, the test of learning how to wrestle and being to do it believably. It's not easy theater to do. You can watch plenty of wrestling matches where the performers are not buying it. And it makes it boring for you to watch. There is a huge testament to the talent of the people who are engaging the fan or viewer."

Ivory loves the idea of the Performance Center and the training of young talent:

"I am a perfect example of somebody who'd have benefited from much more training before I got to be on TV. I have always been lousy at my craft and a lot of people are watching all over the world,"

And Ivory says this about Vince McMahon:

"I always felt embraced by the family. I didn't chat with Vince McMahon all the time, but he always gave me great opportunities. I always felt like I had his seal of approval like, 'Yeah, give it to Ivory, she will do it right,'" she concluded.

Somebody's 'scared' to post my comment, lol.

My opinion of someone being too scared to pist something 100% truthful seems very validated. :)

Insert your own wise crack here. James Ellsworth challenges NWA Worlds Champion Nick Aldis

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bes65fJ-_K0

    Published on Feb 12, 2018
The Aldis Crusade with Ten Pounds of Gold kicked off when James Ellsworth was chosen by Austin Idol to face Nick Aldis. This unlikely challenger is best known for being the valet for Carmella, his matches against Braun Strowman and Becky Lynch, but it’s victories over AJ Styles that brought him to the Aldis Crusade. The underdog competitor made his nwa debut yesterday at Championship Wrestling From Hollywood as he fit the criteria set forward by Nick Aldis and Austin Idol on who could be the first challenger for the Ten Pounds of Gold

The Aldis Crusade will see the NWA Champion Nick Aldis (or whoever defeats Aldis) go forth to defend the Ten Pounds of Gold over twenty times over the next sixty days. Reaction to James Ellsworth being chosen has brought a flood of response and opinions on his worth as challenger. Austin Idol defended the choice stating that Ellsworth’s resume while eclectic does fit the criteria.

PWInsider did correct themselves and credit me.. Sort of.

Was told about this old screwjob McMahon had done (I remember the match though)

With all the talk in recent weeks about the screwjob in the 1997 Survivor Series match with Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels of late, Vince McMahon's first screwjob on a big scale is on the WWE network under Home Video Classics on "Grand Slams," at the 12:45 mark, as they showed the Wendi Richter vs. Spider Lady (Fabulous Moolah) finish from Madison Square Garden where Richter had the title taken from her without being told ahead of time, and then Richter quit the promotion and never returned until being put in their Hall of Fame.

(I never knew about Wendi not being told ahead of time, that one is news even for me, lol) I'm now wanting to know the back story on that).

Billy Corgan Says Former TNA World Champion Would Get 'Openly Buried' During Impact Meetings

NWA Owner Billy Corgan stopped by Busted Open Radio to talk pro wrestling, future plans with NWA, and some of his experiences while working in TNA/Impact. The conversation turned to current NWA World Heavyweight Champion, Nick Aldis, and how he would be openly buried by people within TNA during meetings.

"I sat in many TNA meetings where Nick [Aldis'] name came up and people in the company openly buried him," Corgan said. "And you would say this guy is in his prime - both as a performer and as a talent - and it was always about his attitude. People didn't want to work with him."

For Corgan, he never had any problems with Aldis since his joining with NWA and gave a possible reason why.

"Me personally, never had an issue," Corgan responded. "I've been friends with his wife, [Mickie James], for years so maybe that changed the tenor of the dynamic with working with him. So when the opportunity came up for him to be involved with the NWA, we jumped at it because we think he's a top tier talent."

Known as Magnus in TNA, he worked for the company between 2008 and 2015. Leaving for about two years, he returned for a much shorter run in 2017. Aldis himself had noted not signing an exclusive deal, financial compensation, and creative challenges as reasons for the exit. He won the TNA World Heavyweight Championship one time in December of 2013. More recently, he won the NWA World Heavyweight Championship from Tim Storm last December.

I've been corrected (something I'm sure Mike Johnson,(PWInsider) Dave Scherer and others won't admit)

    I reported this...

Former TNA Tag Team champions America's Most Wanted, Chris Harris and James Storm, will be reuniting for the first time in a decade for Ohio independent promotion ASWA's Spring Sting event on 4/7 at the Malabar Gymnasium in Mansfield, Ohio.

But a friend of mine named Justin handed me this link showing that the report is incorrect. So, since Dave Scherer won't admit he was wrong. I will. America's Most Wanted teamed together back in 2016 and here's the proof.

Billy Gunn On Bart Gunn Getting Knocked Out At WrestleMania 15, Where Bart Is Now, Funny Road Story

Among other things, Gunn talked about his former tag partner, Bart Gunn, WWE's shootfight Brawl For All tournament, and Bart's WrestleMania 15 fight versus Butterbean. Also, Austin and Gunn told an amusing story about shenanigans on the road.

According to Billy, he met his Smoking Gunns tag partner, Bart, at Eddie Mansfield's pro wrestling school.

"Eddie Mansfield had a [pro wrestling] school and nobody ever went there except for me and Bart." Billy said, "and so I went and he went and we kind of met up and we were the only ones that would ever come. Nobody else would come that would train or anything, so me and him were kind of self-teaching each other by watching stuff on TV and then we'd get in there and implement it. But the problem with that is you have no rhyme or reason for why you're doing it. You're just doing it because it looks really cool."
During the podcast, Steve recalled traveling with the Smoking Gunns and ending up in a dive bar in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada (or possibly Red Deer, Alberta, Canada). Apparently, Steve took over the DJ booth, and made Billy and Bart dance.

"We were traveling and we stopped at a bar." Steve continued, "we [were] hitting the goddamn beers and we had a spot show down there and there wasn't [anybody] there. We got back. We had to kick it up a little bit! And I don't know how I got the gumption to get in the DJ booth and I am for damn sure no DJ Jazzy Jeff and I was over there talking on the RF mic. And back then, I'm actually a pretty shy guy, but goddangit I was on fire that night and y'all were out there tearing up the dance floor. Literally, there were only six people in the club. It was awesome!"

Billy recalled the events in question slightly differently.

"[Steve] made me dance… kicked the DJ guy out 'because 'Stone Cold''s here to spin some tunes and get out of here!' He's spinning tunes; he's making me and Bart go and dance with people." Billy added, "it was highly suggested that if you're going to spin tunes, that somebody's going to dance, and it wasn't going to be you along with the bigger lady over there."

On the subject of the Brawl For All, Billy shared that he knew that then head of talent relations at WWE, Jim Ross, wanted 'Dr. Death' Steve Williams to win the tournament and 'The One' begged 'JR' not to let 'Bang Bang' Bart compete because he knew his kayfabe brother would win.
"Of course, they did [want Dr. Death to win]. And I told JR from the get-go, 'don't put Bart in it.' I told him from the start. I said, 'don't put him in it because he's going to crush everybody.'" Billy remembered, "when they were putting that all together and he was in, I just started laughing. And, of course, JR, and I love JR to death, this was a Steve Williams thing, just because he was just coming into the business and he had that reputation, but I just think he was just in too deep."

According to Billy, he could attest to Bart's toughness and fighting ability, as he even witnessed firsthand Bart take on 15 guys at once in a barroom brawl. Billy said Bart only stopped fighting when someone stabbed him with a broken beer bottle.

"I've heard so many stories of him cleaning places out. I've seen him clean out one club in Orlando [Florida] and I think it was like 15 guys till he get a bottle stuck in his side." Billy recalled, "he already whooped 10 guys. He looked down and goes, 'oh, where did that come from?' Like, he's that guy!"

In Billy opinion, Bart lost to Butterbean at WrestleMania 15 because Bart took boxing lessons to prepare, but Bart was a fighter, not a boxer.
"I think it was a disaster all around and then you put him in there and the end result is WrestleMania with Butterbean. You put him in there with a professional fighter and it's kind of like, 'let's put an end to Bart's reign', which, to this day, Bart still wants to fight him."

Billy said, "[taking boxing lessons] is exactly where everything went awry. There was no part of boxing and no part of finesse and it was, 'ding, ding, ding, and start swinging.' So whenever they started to set this up, and said, 'hey, we're going to have you do this. We're going to have you get ready.' And now he's taking boxing lessons, so he comes out trying to box and Butterbean just ducks his head and swings them! Like, I think that's what bothers Bart the most is he knows that messed it up. That was the thing that put the brakes on it because he'd be like, 'oh, now I've got to go face him? Now I've got to learn how to box and move my feet and stuff.' What brought you to the dance was those big old mittens! Just sling those around!"

Billy said the former 'Bodacious' Bart resumed working as an electrician after his pro wrestling odyssey came to a close.

"He was a master electrician out at The Cape before he started getting into wrestling. Then when he got out of wrestling, no, he did this stint in Japan and it was a huge deal over there in Japan for eight, nine years, I think. And then, came back and redid all of his licensing. Now he's a master electrician again, loving life."
