Low Attendance For WWE's Stomping Grounds PPV (Like That's A Real Shocker)

there was low attendance at the Tacoma Dome in Tacoma, Washington for last night's first-ever WWE Stomping Grounds pay-per-view. The arena had half of the seating curtained off to hide the empty seats, despite a decent line for walk-up tickets before the show, and a lot of free tickets given out on the day of the event.
DEFY Wrestling's Matt Farmer noted on Twitter that there were around 6,000 fans in attendance, which would be one of the smallest WWE pay-per-view crowds in a long time. Farmer also noted that there were "tons" of comped tickets, and a lot of 2 for 1 ticket deals were sold.
Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that the paid attendance for Stomping Groundswas around 4,000 - 4,500 fans. It was also noted that tickets were being given away at the mall earlier in the day. The Tacoma Dome can hold around 18,000 fans after production.

Chris Jericho On Why Seth Rollins Vs. Baron Corbin At Stomping Grounds Is What's Wrong With WWE Now

Current AEW contender Chris Jericho spoke about the current WWE product while previewing Sunday's Stomping Grounds pay-per-view on his Talk Is Jericho podcast. Jericho discussed the main event of Stomping Grounds featuring Seth Rollins vs. Baron Corbin, and mentioned how that is one example of what is wrong with current WWE programming.
"This match, to me, once again is one of the problems with WWE and maybe one of the reasons why tickets haven't sold well in Tacoma," Jericho said. "We just saw this match two weeks ago at Super [Show Down]. The classic thing is my neighbor is a good guy too, [that] doesn't mean [Corbin] should be headlining pay-per-views over and over again."
Jericho credited Corbin for his positive traits, however did admit to not seeing him as main event ready. Instead, Jericho believes a superstar like Samoa Joe defending his United States Championship is better suited for the main event prestige.
"There's heat, there's go-away heat, there's this guy isn't ready heat," Jericho explained. "Corbin [is a] solid worker, solid personality, great guy. I don't think he's ready for the main event especially when you got Samoa Joe four or five matches down working for the United States Championship. Flip-flop it. Let Corbin work his way up through the ranks and let a guy who is a legit proven headliner who has drawn money. I know you're not suppose to say TNA in WWE but let's be honest, the biggest pay-per-view in TNA history was Kurt Angle vs. Samoa Joe. Joe can walk the walk and talk the talk. I think Corbin is still learning. I think the difference in this one is that there's a special guest referee that's going to be chosen by Corbin."
However Jericho or the WWE Universe views Corbin, he is slated to challenge Seth Rollins for the WWE Universal Championship this Sunday at WWE's inaugural pay-per-view Stomping Grounds. Adding to the stakes, the match is set to feature a special guest referee chosen by challenger Corbin. For weeks now,WWE has teased the special guest referee announcement, but has yet to pen an official name.

Jon Moxley On How Different NJPW Is From WWE,

IWGP United States Champion Jon Moxley was recently interviewed by the official NJPW website. Moxley was asked about coming to the crowd for his ring entrance at the Best of the Super Juniors event, much like he did when he was in WWE, and what the reasoning was behind that.
"That idea was presented to me and at first I did think it was leaning a little on things I'd done in the past," Moxley said. "But thinking a bit about it, it was definitely the right thing to do. I don't want to be 'too cool' and ignore the things I've done. It is a cool entrance, and something I helped trail-blaze. The best thing about it was that it was a mood changer. The atmosphere instantly changed and I could feel that change. Plus, Sumo Hall is such a cool arena, so historic, and to have that view from the top of the stairs, that was a really cool sight."
Moxley was also asked if wrestling at Sumo Hall for NJPW was different than wrestling there for WWE. He said it was very different.
"It was very different," Moxley said. "I'd performed there six or seven times for WWE, but that was for WWE fans in Japan, or fans sampling that product. I didn't know how the NJPW fans would react to me, or even know who I was. I thought I would have to show them who I was through what I did in the ring and the violence I put out there on my opponent. I didn't know how it was going to go, but it was great. I can't thank them enough for the energy they have, and the respect. The respect the Japanese fans have is tremendous. When I was in WWE, I looked forward to coming to Japan the most, more than TV, or WrestleMania, because they have such respect for this sport, and it makes you want to work harder."
Moxley surprised a lot of fans when he went back to wrestling in short tights. He talked about the gear change and why he didn't like wrestling in jeans while with WWE.
"I wanted to change my look, for sure," Moxley confirmed. "When I was in WWE, I always wrestled in jeans, and there was a reason for that; everybody else had fancy tights and I wanted to be the opposite. More grungy, a street fighter type. But wrestling in jeans, honestly, it sucks. They're hot, sweaty, hard to move in. I'm done with wrestling in jeans! It's so much easier to wrestle in tights.
"My boots situation was a nightmare before I wrestled. I had a pair I bought that I was trying to break in, but they didn't fit right. I tried another pair, they didn't fit, either. They were too clunky. So I just went with regular wrestling shoes. When I looked in the mirror before I went out, I felt naked because I was so used to wrestling in jeans. So I knew then that it would cause a reaction, and be a bit of a shock."
Regarding his NJPW debut, the title win over Juice Robinson, Moxley said he loved it. He compared it to an acid trip.
"I loved the whole thing," Moxley said. "I love being in intense blood and guts stuff like that. It was a tooth and nail fight, and I loved that. When the crowd and the announcers are saying to each other 'this is crazy!' I love that. Those matches where you just go all out, everything on the line, be it for five minutes or 20 minutes. Just wild stuff. I love watching that.
"The whole experience was great. I've been watching NJPW, and New Japan is professional wrestling. I love professional wrestling and I feel for a few years that I had been relegated to being an entertainer. So I was excited to just go in, no pre-conceived notions, no baggage of thinking about who this new Jon Moxley is. Just going out and seeing what happened. It was all like an acid trip to be honest. With the jet lag, the new environment, the new fans, this friend I used to have now being a guy I'm fighting, this new gear that makes me feel naked… it was just madness. But I started to feel my groove. I started to get in the zone, and that felt really good."

Impact Wrestling Stuff

One of the most asked questions we receive about Impact, LAX remains in discussions with Impact Wrestling but have not yet signed a new deal with the company.  We are told their current deal expires later this summer.  Impact sources have noted getting LAX under a longer form deal is one of the their top priorities.  LAX vs. The Rascalz is set for the 7/7 Slammiversary PPV.

Tommy Dreamer noted how banged up he has been over the last month on social media, writing, "Some things you dont know after a move or match.  Rob Van Dam hit me so hard w/his splash his jaw went into my bicep/pec/shoulder.  He hurt his jaw & probably suffered another slight concussion. My ribs hurt every time I took a breath for 1 week.  My bicep STILL has a lump in it.  My arm/shoulder still has little too no mobility.   I started physical therapy due to the pain, this week they say I probably tore my labrum or rotator cuff.  We both wrestled the next night in the Main Event. This occurred on May 3.  I have wrestled 17 times since13 Main Events.  It hurts every time I get in & out of a car.   Every time I'm on a plane someone bumps into me, carrying a suitcase, putting my shirt on and simple tasks.  My only regret is I havent worked out since because I can't and my weight is getting up there which bothers me personally.  This is just my story, every wrestler has one of their own.  Just educating everyone the life of a wrestler."

The 7/14 Fallout event being presented in conjunction with Destiny Wrestling will be a TV taping in Toronto.

TJP has not officially signed with the promotion yet but the two sides are in conversation.

There will be an Impact Plus event, a live Twitch special and a TV taping the weekend of 8/2-8/4 in California.  Dates and venues will be announced next week.

They will also tape in Mexico in August.

There are no current NYC return plans.

COLT CABANA INJURED

Several independent promotions who had NWA National Champion Colt Cabana booked for events this week announced over the last 12 hours that Cabana will not be appearing due to injury.

Cabana is suffering from a hematoma on his quadriceps, which has resulted in a loss of strength in his leg, so he has pulled himself off his bookings in order to heal.  The injury happened two weeks ago.

Cabana is slated to team with NWA Champion Nick Aldis on next week's ROH Best in the World PPV against The Briscoes.  There is no word whether this issue may have a ripple effect on that match.

Bobby Eaton Is Hospitalized

All-time great wrestler "Beautiful" Bobby Eaton of The Midnight Express has been hospitalized since last Friday with cardiac issues.  Eaton woke up that morning with his legs and other parts of his body swollen, so he went to the emergency room and has been hospitalized since then.

Eaton's long-time friend Jim Cornette took to Twitter to correct reports Eaton had suffered a heart attack, noting instead that congestive heart failure led to fluid buildup in Eaton's chest, legs and other parts of the body, forcing Eaton's heart to have to pump harder to make up the difference.

Eaton is being treated with new medications and diuretics.   Cornette noted that Eaton's heart rate is down and that his Pacemaker is working fine and that the situation is improving.

Eaton, 60 years old, is considered one of the best tag team wrestlers of all time, having appearing in all incarnations of The Midnight Express as well as The Dangerous Alliance over the course of his career in Memphis, World Class, Mid-South, Jim Crockett Promotions and World Championship Wrestling, among other promotions.

ICW CHAMPION LIONHEART PASSES AWAY

Adrian McCallum, best known within professional wrestling as Lionheart, passed away overnight at the age of 36.  The cause of death has yet to be officially announced but a final message on social media reads ominous in hindsight.

McCallum was a regular in the Scottish and British Wrestling scene for years.  He was the reigning ICW Champion in Scotland for the WWE-affiliated promotion and had just captured the UEWA Championship on 6/16 in Glasgow, defeating Alexander Dean in a title vs. title match.

Debuting in 2003, McCallum had been with ICW since 2007 and was a regular for the promotion as well as Preston City Wrestling, where he had held their top title, among other European groups.    He was a consistent regular star for the promotion, including a long feud with Jackie Pollo.  He was an important figure in the European scene, one of many who helped bridge it from the scored earth period of the late 1990s and early 2000s to the booming scene it enjoys today.

McCallum launched his own promotion, Pro Wrestling Elite, out of Ayrshire in 2001, regularly bringing American stars including AJ Styles, Mickie James, The Godfather and others over for shows during their time on the independent scene, with the goal of bringing American names over for dream matches against names like Kay Lee Ray and Noam Dar before they found their own way to WWE.   McCallum was also one of the top stars for Preston City Wrestling, holding their top title and was among those taking part on ITV’s World of Sports Wrestling revival that ran for one season and is still syndicated in different countries, including the United States.

At one point, McCallum announced he would retire from pro wrestling in 2012, but reconsidered, noting in interviews the decision to leave was due to some frustrations he was having at the time, finally deciding it was immature to walk away and continued on with the business

.In 2014, it was feared that McCallum would never walk again after breaking his neck taking the Styles Clash during a match with AJ Styles.  He returned to the ring a year later and had been competing since, despite some strength issues on his right side.
McCallum did dabble with some American promotions when they crossed the pond as well. He competed for the ROH Championship in 2008, losing a bout to Nigel McGuinness in 2008.  He’d worked for TNA on their European tours, including a match with Jeff Jarrett in Glasgow that Lionheart credited with raising his profile in the British scene and had dark matches with WWE as well in the past.  McCallum had always made it clear in interviews his goal was to make it to WWE.

McCallum was also regularly training talents at the GPWA Glasgow and maintained a podcast titled “From the Heart.”  McCallum would have turned 37 next month and for man

ICW issued the following statement while asking for McCallum's family to be given privacy:

DAGA-MLW DEPARTURE UPDATE

As noted by me here, and other news outlets Major League Wrestling dropped Daga from their roster, unhappy that he had told them he was unavailable for dates due to a vacation when they were starting a heel turn for him, only to learn he had wrestled in Mexico.

Tessa Blanchard, who is dating Daga, told certain outlets that MLW was informed well in advance that Daga was not available for the date in question, 6/1, as he was going to be in Guadalajara, Mexico for the christening of Rey Fenix's son.  Fenix was involved in an event the next day in the same city and since Daga and Blanchard were in town for the christening, they stayed and worked the show as a favor for Fenix, as did Puma King, Pentagon Jr. and others who were in town for his son's christening.

Blanchard noted that Daga loved working for MLW and would still want to continue there if given the opportunity.    She also noted that one of his goals is to get more work this year inside the United States and there was concern that the MLW situation would lead to other promoters thinking Daga couldn't be trusted to take dates in the States.  She felt that there was a belief in MLW that Daga didn't take the date because he'd be more comfortable staying in Mexico, but he was only in Guadalajara for the christening.

I contaxcted  MLW for comment and so ar.. No reply.

Scarlett Bordeaux Finally Gets Her Release From Impact. But Killer Kross Remains Imprisoned There

A month after Scarlett Bordeaux requested a release from Impact Wrestling, the promotion issued the following:

IMPACT Wrestling Releases Scarlett Bordeaux

IMPACT Wrestling confirms that it has released Scarlett Bordeaux from her commitments to IMPACT. We wish her every success in her future endeavours

Of course it only took her getting grabbed by a fan on a show she appeared on, representing Impact for this to quickly happen. Instead of actually looking into how they could prevent that from happening again, OR.. Discussing the matter with the company she appeared for on BEHALF of Impact about it after she rightfully bitched about it publicly... Just quickly give her the release they should've given her when she first asked for it. THAT just makes 'oh sssoo much more sense' don't you know. Gotta love Impact's logic and mentality here, the woman they refuse to release gets grabbed by a fan, she embarrasses the company by publicly talking about it and only THEN.. Do they quickly 'find a way' to quickly release her, LOL.

With Scarlett Bordeaux being granted her release, the natural question that has been asked is whether Killer Kross is receiving one as well.  We have been told by multiple Impact Wrestling sources today that at this point, Kross will not be receiving a release and will continue to work for the company.  There were some in the company unhappy that Petey Williams provided Kross the forum on his podcast to speak out about his issues with the company, specifically since Williams is not just a talent but a Producer.   As previously noted, there's been unhappiness that Kross spoke out at all in the interview.

But hey, why not tell the truth if they're not paying or using you right. If Impact Management is unhappy about what was said, then here's a great idea... DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT! DUH! I guess that concept is a challenge for Impact management to conceive or grasp.

"Big Poppa Pump" Scott Steiner has never been politically correct. That fact could not have been any more evident than on this installment of Loulies Lounge, after "The Big 44" Tim Loulies decided to berate the VCW fans. The complete uncensored interview is available exclusively on the VCW Network. WARNING: Although this video has been heavily edited, viewer discretion is advised.
