James Storm On If He Would Be Open To Working In WWE NXT Again

As noted, former Impact Wrestling World Heavyweight Champion James Storm was a guest on Cerrito Live and addressed a number of pro wrestling topics including being the only non-WWE performer to attend Ric Flair's 30 For 30 party, what Storm has been doing since leaving Impact, and what the future holds for Storm.

 

Apparently, Flair invited Storm to the 30 For 30 premiere the day of the event.

"Yeah, it was really cool because I got the text and the phone calls actually the day of, 'hey, 'Cowboy', I want you to come down to Atlanta [Georgia] for ESPN and I want you to walk the red carpet with me' and all this. The day of. Right, it was 10:30 in the morning here, which is 11:30 in Atlanta. It's a four-hour drive from here to Atlanta, plus Atlanta traffic, so I had to leave literally as soon as I got off the phone. Like, I grabbed some clothes, threw it in the trunk, and I just hauled ass to Atlanta and I got changed in my truck in the garage. That's [pro] wrestling style, right there, for you. And then, I pulled my hair back, threw my hat on, and I got there as soon as Flair and his wife, Wendy, were getting out of the limo."

Interestingly, Storm said nobody drank at the premiere out of respect for Flair.

"No, I mean, he was still Flair. It was super cool just to go to his party. And, like, no one was drinking in respect to Flair. And I think a lot of people walked in to see what Taker was doing also. If Taker wasn't drinking, no one was drinking, was how it went down. But I do think it is out of respect for Flair that no one was drinking there, especially the boys. They paid their respects to him and as soon as that party, then, all the boys went to a different place for an afterparty."

When asked how he currently occupies his time, Storm said he is trying to get in good shape in case the right opportunity comes along.

"Right now, I'm just taking it one day at a time. I'm actually at a gym right now. I'm spending most of my time in the gym, just getting into the best shape that I can. Hell, I'm down to 11% body fat right now, which, at the last TVs, I was up to 16, so I'm hitting it hard because you never know what's around the corner or what could be next for old James Storm."
Storm indicated that he would not be sorry about his damn luck if he went back to NXT.

"People always say, 'main roster or bust type of guy,' but if you look at NXT, it's one of the hottest things going right now no matter what people say. And it's one of those things where anybody would be proud to be signed to NXT and have a good run there. I mean, it's plain and simple. They are doing as much as the people on the main roster is on the road and stuff like that right now. So, I mean, I'd definitely go and work with those guys and help them out as best I can.

Also during the interview, Storm said he would like his next move to be a surprise to the wrestleverse.

"There are a lot of companies and the funny thing is that I'm now free to talk and negotiate with other companies and actually go work for other companies. But right now, I think I kind of want to keep it under wraps, make it a surprise where old James Storm pops up."
 
Storm explained, "I just want to be a surprise because today, especially in our social media world, there [are] not that many surprises anymore. And because everybody wants to be cool and I always say, 'people are wrestling for the likes and the retweets' or GIFS, whatever they call those things these days. But to me, I always try to keep stuff kayfabe and keep stuff secret until it happens or whatever, so it's even cooler when it's a surprise."

Rey Mysterio On If He Would Want To Return To WWE, Why 205 Live Isn't More Popular, Current Status

Rey Mysterio spoke with ESPN on a number of pro wrestling topics. Here are some of the highlights:

 

His current status and if he's tied to any wrestling promotion:
"I'm not locked up to any company. I'm an independent contractor, as we say. I could go work wherever I want. That's the beautiful thing about being on this side of the fence. You don't have a commitment with only one company. You can go around and pretty much wrestle wherever you want. You can choose when you want your off-days to be. That was one of my main priorities when I left WWE."
205 Live:

"I don't know [why 205 Live isn't more popular]. To be honest with you I can scratch my head all day and not figure it out because they do have talent. I don't know if they're limited to doing so much in the ring that they don't go all out versus Lucha Underground. It's Johnny Mundo versus Rey Mysterio and 15 minutes. We'll go ahead and tear the house down without limitation. We'll be coming up with new moves and still trying to innovate the game. With [205 Live] and the comparison with WCW, it was just a different time. Back then, we had no competition. The cruiserweight division had no competition. Nobody was out there doing the stuff we were doing. You have to get really creative now to blow the fans' minds away. I think it's gotten to that point where there's another phase of the evolution of the sport and it's changing right now as we speak. I see guys like Ricochet. I see guys like Will Ospreay. And I'm going, 'what the hell, where are these guys coming up with all these moves?' Sometimes I pause and think, 'I was like that when I was breaking into the business.' I was always being creative and thinking of new stuff. We're in a new era right now. I think if they just let the guys from [205 Live] go a little bit more, feel free to do whatever they want to do, maybe they might get a different reaction. I could be wrong."

If he would want to return to WWE:
"I would definitely love to go back and finish up. Whether it's one year or whatever the case might be. Whether it's a farewell. I owe a lot to that company. That company gave me such an amazing opportunity, and I took advantage of every single moment I was with WWE to the fullest. I wouldn't want to just be remembered as 'Oh, man, he never re-signed and he never came back.' I would definitely love to come back and do a last run and say goodbye to my WWE fans. Tell them goodbye in a proper way. I don't think I can go back [to a full-time schedule]. There's just no way. I can't go back to that schedule. It would be common sense for them as well. That was my main motive for stepping away. I wanted to be able to have some free time. I'm still working really hard right now on the independent scene, but I control my schedule. I might get booked three days -- Friday, Saturday, Sunday, come home Monday, and the following weekend I don't have to work. That right there gives me a peaceful state of mind like you have no idea."

“Really you can't describe it... one of those experiences. The noise was so loud in the ring when his music hit and he actually made his entrance. The noise was just so loud it was deafening. You really couldn't even call spots in the ring, the people were so loud. The good thing with Hulk Hogan was once you had a set match a good fifteen, twenty minute set match you could take that match all around the whole circuit”. 

George Gray's memories of “The Z-Man” Tom Zenk:

“Once he left the business he kind of just vanished. From what I remember of the guy he was a nice guy. He had a great look about him, to me he was a good worker in the ring.”

Ricky Morton on Tom Zenk: 

“I hung out with Tom a lot. I treat people the way they treat me. Tom was always nice to me.” Morton added, “I imagine he did a lot of business for WCW because of his look.”

George Gray's memories on working against Andre the Giant:  

“I went out in the ring... and this is Andre the Giant so every time  he hits me and I'm flying all over the place. After the match he calls me back and sits me down and he said boss I'm already over. I came in here to get you over. So I don't want you flying around like that. I want to have a regular match with you” He concluded, “I was kinda like this is Andre the Giant, he doesn't have to do that.”

WWE STAR INJURED BY FAN THROWING OBJECT

WWE star Kalisto was apparently injured during Tuesday's broadcast of 205 Live on the WWE Network when a fan threw a water bottle into the ringside area, striking the WWE star while he was laying outside of the ring on the floor.

Kalisto's wife took to Instagram noting that he had received stitches and underwent an MRI to determine whether he may have suffered a fracture being hit with the bottle.  She also posted the same message on Twitter, complete with a graphic photo of the injury Kalisto sustained:

In speaking to WWE sources today said the fan in question was immediately apprehended by security and taken into custody.  We are told that the venue, the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, would be responsible for prosecution of the fan and have not gotten a clear indication if that has happened.

WWE began taking a hardline stance towards prosecuting fans after a run of events where fans were hopping the rail and/or physically getting into it with talents several years ago.

JEFF JARRETT UPDATE

It appears that TNA founder Jeff Jarrett has completed his rehab as his wife Karen posted a photo of Jarrett back at home and his longtime friend Hermie Sadler wrote on social media about how proud he is of the former WCW and NWA champion:

It's been confirmed that Jarrett returned home from Tampa, Florida last night.

Jarrett entered a rehab program shortly after it was announced that Impact Wrestling had severed their relationship with him.  That came after Jarrett had taken time off from the company for personal reasons.  Whether any of this means Jarrett and the company will mend fences and work together again remains to be seen.

Jarrett spent the last two months in the WWE-sponsored rehab, only leaving for two short trips home for family events.

DANIEL BRYAN COMMENTS ON WHETHER WWE HAS CHANGED ITS STANCE ON HIS RETURN TO THE RING

Daniel Bryan, during an appearance on Hot 97 FM in New York City on Tuesday morning, said that WWE is still standing firm that they are not comfortable with him performing as a professional wrestler after forcing him into retirement due to concussion and medical concerns several years ago.

Bryan, who now performs as the General Manager of Smackdown (although he remains under his previous independent contractor deal, signed when he was wrestling for the company), explained that he has presented a case to the company showing that medically, "I'm fine."

Bryan said that WWE feels he's had "too many" concussions.  Bryan said he feels there's been a lot of miseducation about concussions and he's been working with a concussion institute in Phoenix (where he resides).  He said that concussions aren't a death sentence.  He said that if you report a concussion, you need to not be physical until your brain is healed from it completely and then you can come back and not have it haunt you for the rest of your life. 

It was mentioned that there have been some who have had "terrible closure" to their lives because of concussion-related issues.  The hosts mentioned that WWE may be protecting Bryan's health.  Bryan said that he's been cleared by experts that WWE sent him to that say he's cleared to wrestle and his brain EKGs have been excellent.

When he was asked why he needs to go back to the ring, Bryan said he loves wrestling but he doesn't "love all of it" using the travel as an example.  He said that the part that he loves is being in the ring, but now he has the job, except the part that he loves.    He said he's appreciative that WWE has given him something to do, but some feel he should be happy he has that position, but it's not what he loves to do.

Bryan was asked if he's addicted to the action and Bryan said that's not the case.  He said he's addicted to it mentally.  He does kickboxing and jiu-jitsu regularly and is still physical in life, but he's had a "borderline obsession" with pro wrestling and thinks about it all the time.  He's still thinking about what he can do in wrestling still.  He brought up Tom Brady, who has made tons of money, has a wife who makes more money than he does and has a number of Super Bowl rings, yet he's still passionate about football and thinking about it all the time.

One of the hosts said that sometimes, you have to stop doing things that are bad for your health and your family, using sex with multiple partners as an example.  Bryan joked that may be a bad comparison.

Bryan said that his wife is supportive about the situation.  Bryan said he made mistakes by hiding things from his doctors and WWE and doing that in general isn't good as it breeds mistrust between himself and the doctor.  He had a seizure in 2012 which he never told the company about and then had one in 2015.  He described a seizure in a hotel room right after he started dating Brie and he begged her not to tell anyone and she didn't tell anyone, not even her twin sister.  She later told him that since they were planning a family, he had to tell the doctor.  He had one in April 2015 and he told the doctors and that led to where they are now.

Bryan said there are so many variables about concussions that people just don't understand, bringing up the recent study that claimed 99 out of 100 football players had CTE.  They actually had the protein associated with the disease and there's no word whether they actually had cognitive issues.    Bryan also wondered how eating tons of proteins (which athletes do) could add to proteins on the brain and how steroid use in past generations caused issues. 

Bryan said WWE's Dr. Maroon wasn't even aware that there are nuclear spec scans of the brain.  Bryan said that if they do find something wrong with his brain, he doesn't want to wrestle.  The hard part for him personally is that "all these specialists" have told him he can wrestle, but he's not allowed to wrestle.

Bryan said when he retired, he was initially at peace with it and wanted to make changes in his life, but being around wrestling and realizing that he can still do it and being around it, is hard.  He said that not being allowed to wrestle "feels almost like a disservice to me and a disservice to other people who may be in my situation."

Bryan said in 5-10 years, they may be able to diagnose CTE in living people and that's going to change wrestling and the NFL.  He said you are going to get to a point where you come out of college and will be tested for it and told you have to retire at 26 and it's going to change the face of contact sports.    He said it's going to be a big issue with the NFL's popularity going forward, because if kids stop playing football because of contact concerns, it's going to lead to other sports gaining in popularity.

Bryan admitted he wants to wrestle, so his argument is skewed. 

It was noted that Bryan is 36 and his window for his prime years are closing.  Bryan said WWE is trying to protect him and their company, but he doesn't know how many people currently on the roster who, if they underwent the same testing that he went through, would be cleared to wrestler and who would be in the same situation he's currently in.  He admitted he's skewed and said we are in an interesting point in history because for the first time, more people die from overeating vs. starvation.    He said there are studies into how animal proteins hurt different part of the body.  It's something you don't hear about because it's not sensationalism and because you have companies that advertise with companies.  Bryan said he doesn't want to blend issues.

Bryan said it's an interesting situation before sliding into a storyline discussion, claiming the situation has helped create the current rift between himself and Shane McMahon, going as far as to claim he could be walking into that night's Smackdown taping to find himself fired

Cody Rhodes On If WWE Should Do Starrcade Again

former ROH World Champion Cody [Rhodes] was recently interviewed on SiriusXM's Busted Open program. Cody talked about what he admired most about his father, the late great Dusty Rhodes. Also, Cody shared his thoughts on WWE's Starrcade live event in November.

 

According to Cody, he admired Dusty for 'The Dream''s abilities as a promoter above all else. Cody suggested that this quality of his father may explain his own interest in funding a 10,000-seat venue along with The Young Bucks.

"It was in me that you take this game we're all involved in and you take wrestling and you leave it better than you found it. And my dad, everyone knows, yeah, three-time world champion. He was a great wrestler, but the part about my dad that I admired the most was his ability to promote, his sense for the big events. And, I don't know, maybe it was in my bones all along and I didn't know, but there's nothing to be afraid of in 2017, in 2018. What is there to be afraid of?"
 
With respect to Starrcade, Cody said it was his brother Dustin's moment, as Dustin wrestled as 'The Natural' instead of his longstanding WWE character, Goldust.

"I was really proud of Dustin. [Bully] know[s] more than anybody because [has has] seen we have a unique relationship. I love my brother and that was his moment and I have a tendency to want to make stuff about me a lot because Dusty is also my dad. But that was Dustin's moment and he got to live it, do it, and I'm very proud of him."

Cody added, "I was really proud of Dustin. If they never do that again, I was glad he got to do that."

In Cody's view, WWE should do Starrcade again and it should be on the WWE Network.

FLOSPORTS VS. WWN LAWSUIT UPDATE, WWN LAUNCHES STREAMING SERVICE

WWN filed a new motion against the amended lawsuit that Flosports has brought against them, again requesting the lawsuit being dismissed, citing that the suit was filed in a venue (Texas) that lacks jurisdiction over WWNLive. It was very much the same filing thay had been shot down due to the amended complaint, arguing that the case should not be heard in Texas since Flosports were doing business with WWN in Florida, that the WWN business records and bank accounts are in the Sunshine State and that their only dealings in Texas were WWN President Sal Hamaoui traveling to Texas in October 2016 and January 2017, the first trip to meet with Flosports during the courtship period and the latter to sign the deal. WWN has yet to filed their expected counter-suit against Flosports.

The company today announced their own streaming "WWN CLUB" service as well on the WWNLive.com website for $9.99 a month, allowing users complete access to events from eight different brands under the WWN umbrella, including EVOLVE, SHINE, Dragon Gate USA, FIP and Style Battle. The subscription will also allow 50% off iPPV orders going forward to specific events streaming live.  Those events will then be added to the Club service two weeks later for VOD streaming.  They will also be doing a point system that will reward those who make purchases with free content and discounts.

Impact Wrestling News

Former TNA Director Michael Vedder has returned to the company and will be replacing Dave Sahadi, who was recently let go by the company, as the lead Director and Producer of television producer.

As noted earlier this week, tomorrow's Impact Wrestling will be a "Best of 2017" episode.   Announced for the first Impact of the year, 1/4/18 is Impact Wrestling champ Eli Drake vs. Alberto el Patron, Impact Wrestling X-Division champion Trevor Lee vs.Taiji Ishimori and James Storm vs. Dan Lambert with the idea that Storm would leave Impact if he loses.  I think we all know how that one will go.

Bill Behrens will be working with Impact going forward on getting contracted talents third party bookings.

There has been continued talk within the company that one of the goals for the new year is to try and rebuild their old relationship with New Japan.

There's been a lot of raves for the forthcoming LAX vs. OVE barbed wire match that will air in a few weeks.

Impact Wrestling will tape from 1/10-1/15 in Orlando, Florida at Universal Studios.

NWO Sting On Keeping The Gimmick Secret Backstage, His Most Exciting Night In WCW, Joining NWO, More

Episode #320 of The Two Man Power Trip of Wrestling features former nWo member and NJPW star, Jeff Farmer FKA "the nWo" Sting. Talking in great detail about the creation of the character that helped propel the genesis of Steve Borden's Sting persona, Farmer reveals all the details behind the plans for his character as well as the frenzy the "nWo Sting" help create in Japan as part of the nWo Japan faction. The creation of the "nWo/Impostor" Sting character:
"Eric [Bischoff] would have to tell you because I don't know where the concept started or who came up with it or the whole kind of birth of where that came out of but I know that they thought that physically I was similar to Steve (Sting) and size wise we are about the same size even though I was probably heavier than him we were kind of the same general size. They had to find someone who could look the part and be able to pull of the switch. They actually took me in and did prosthetics. I wore contacts and it was very elaborate how they went in and did a mask (like a plaster mask) of Steve's face and did a plaster mask of my face. They used a guy from F/X that was a really good F/X guy that they were using that did all the whole prosthetic pieces of my eyebrows, forehead and chin that they made to make me look similar in the face but later we dropped that because you couldn't tell with the face paint on and I didn't even use it. At first I did and I'd sit in makeup for an hour and put in contacts because I remember when I got out of the limo that was me when that happened and when I kick Lex (Luger) I couldn't even see that good because of the contacts."
"Eric had told me that if it got out that they were going to squash it and kill the deal so I didn't say a word and everybody else involved didn't say anything and it was pretty kayfabe at the time including the boys who weren't sure if it was really Sting. I think that was really one of the coos of wrestling at that point was even though it was a work that the guys didn't know if it was Sting."
The night he joined the nWo:
"You never know sometimes when you are in the thick of it. You can watch it back and maybe pickup things you could have done better or but I agree with you and I thought it went off great and it was believable. I worked with Lex after that for years and I love Lex and was always fun to work with for me. It was good and it was definitely successful and I think Eric was happy and the results were that nobody knew and I think it accomplished what they wanted. You also have to remember that I was also taking orders and just trying to do my best to pull this off. I knew it was a big deal but at the same time I was just going along with what Hogan and I think he was the one that had the whole idea of taking it where it went. Eric had approached me but I don't know who was kind of masterminding the stuff and I don't know who it was, it could have been Hall or Nash or all three of them."
Learning to mimic Steve Borden's Sting and bringing the "nWo Sting" come to life:
"It was such a fun time for me. I had to study Steve's moves because I really didn't wrestle that way but I knew he did the splash and I knew he did the scorpion (death lock) and the "whooooo" and the off the rope brain-buster kind of thing so I watched what he did enough but I never really went and practiced it. Maybe I went through it a little bit at the Power Plant to make sure I knew how to do it but I was really just going off of what I had seen him do. I kind of not mocked it a little bit but I was just trying to go along with what I had seen him do but it was fun and I knew that it was not often that in the U.S. you get to be the top of a program but for me as not a top level guy (and never was in WCW more in Japan) it was a thrill."
What was the anticipated reaction of the fans to an impostor Sting:
"My reaction was that I wanted them to boo. It would be that well you are the impostor or the fake and that was the response that I wanted. When I'd throw my arms up and do a "whoo" instead of them cheering, I wanted them to boo. It was funny when I went to Japan they knew the difference between Sting and nWo Sting because I started going over there and working this character and they are very smart fans in Japan and some of the best fans in the world because they know everything. They very clearly knew that this an nWo version of Sting and they wanted and were hoping that him and I would wrestle each other over there. The idea was to illicit a response from the fans. Which kind of didn't really work because when I was with Chono and Muta when we were doing the nWo the fans were loving it and they liked the bad guys. We were "heeling" over there and it was a very successful character.".

Being included in the 1996 War Games as "nWo Sting":
"I have to tell you guys that that was probably the most exciting night in wrestling for me. I remember very clearly just the "pop" that I got when I came out and the whole thing because it was a big event and everybody from the announcers, the referees, to the TV people in the back everybody kind if did a great job of getting this to work. The whole thing in the ring at the end it was to me one of the best highlights that I had in the business that night at War Games."
How over the nWo Japan faction was in NJPW:
"An interesting side not to all this is later they had other "impostors" and I don't know if you remember that. Like they had Kanyon and a few others doing it and the reason that happened was because it was the New Japan thing was really on the same heels of what was going on there (in WCW). It was really becoming popular in New Japan at the same time. They had said that they wanted the nWo stars to come to Japan because it was heating and Hogan, Hall and Nash weren't going to go in the middle of a really hot thing and go to Japan so once it died down even a little bit they asked who they could send from the nWo and it was me, Bagwell and Scott Norton who was already a superstar in New Japan.
"The thing with Japan just kind of took off. Sadly, I wasn't around for the other part of when they had some fallout over who was responsible and they did the red and black nWo and broke them into teams and I wasn't even around for that whole segment because I was working full time for New Japan. I was in WCW but as a talent for New Japan so I was over there most of the time."

Former ROH Tag Team Champions To WWE NXT Soon?

Former ROH Tag Team Champions "War Machine" Hanson and Raymond Rowe are currently going through medical testing to be signed by WWE. No word yet on when Hanson and Rowe may debut for WWE but word is that they will be working the WWE NXT brand, setting up another potential showdown with Kyle O'Reilly and Bobby Fish.

War Machine finished up with Ring of Honor this past weekend but they are still scheduled to work New Japan Pro Wrestling's Wrestle Kingdom 12 event from the Tokyo Dome on January 4th, 2018. If all goes well with the WWE medical tests, we could see the former IWGP Tag Team Champions in NXT before WrestleMania 34 Season gets going.

With WWE Clash of the Champions leaning on the history of the NWA (National Wrestling Alliance) in 2017, the story of NWA Ten Pounds of Gold continues on with reigning NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion Tim Storm.

With Tim Storm accepting the invitation of Combat Zone Wrestling to appear at CZW's Cage of Death, the pressure mounted for the 53-Year-Old School teacher and so did the injuries. An injury to the NWA Champion by Jocephus, left him with two cracked ribs.

Tim Storm had promised to look the CZW Locker Room in the eye and see who wanted to make history. Men like Matt Tremont, Ethan Page, and MJF all walked to the ring and laid their claim to the Ten Pounds of Gold. But it was the return of a legend - The Universal Heartthrob Austin Idol that shocked the wrestling world.

Austin Idol called out Tim Storm on his promise of "Anywhere, Anytime' to The Universal Heartthrobs new client - Nick Aldis. The shocking turn of events at CZW's Cage of Death play out in Episode Ten of NWA Ten Pounds of Gold.

Chris Jericho Reveals Why He Recently Called Impact Wrestling

Scott D'Amore and NJPW color commentator Don Callis recently joined Impact Wrestling as Executive Vice President and will report to President Ed Nordholm. Callis and D'Amore recently joined the Talk Is Jericho podcast to discuss their hiring, the future of the company and more.

Jericho revealed that he personally called Impact to recommend they hire Callis. He said he believed Impact needed a fresh start with people at the helm who hadn't previously led the company. Jericho said hiring Billy Corgan would've been an upgrade over Dixie Carter, but it wouldn't have presented a new direction for the fans to be excited about, so he suggested Callis and D'Amore.

"My thought process was, and this is not a slight on anyone that has ran that company or been part of that company, working with that company, that has been around for so long, through so many incarnations and through all its ups and downs, and now I found with the last incarnation with TNA/Global Force is that it was a dead company. There was nothing exciting about it or sparking it, so to me, the only way to get it rolling would be to completely change directions and go with somebody new and different," Jericho said.

 "When Billy Corgan was up for it I would have much rather him run it over Dixie Carter because it was somebody new, and I just really felt that it was my place to call the guys and say, listen, if you guys really want to lose money go for it, or use it as a tax write off then you have the right place. But if you really want to do something and role with it and be at a place where people are excited about then you have to go in this direction, and these guys [Callis and D'Amore] are the guys to do it with. So that was basically the jist of the conversation and it worked because here you guys are, but this is really the only way the company to grow is by doing something completely different and new."

With so many superstars in WWE succeeding after working for Impact, D'Amore also discussed the need for Impact to build up new homegrown talent. AJ Styles, Bobby Roode and Samoa Joe are all prominent superstars in WWE after breaking into the mainstream with Impact Wrestling. D'Amore stressed the need for established talent to join Impact to help develop up-and-coming superstars. He suggested that Sting and Christian, both of whom wrestled with Impact, will be joining the company to help build up the homegrown talent.


"I think that there has got to be a combination. Things are done best when there is a combination of established stars working with guys that we are developing. AJ Styles is a homegrown talent here. Although he had a 'cup of coffee' in WCW, AJ Styles brand was built in Impact Wrestling. Just like Samoa Joe had a tremendous following, and when I took over the creative team in 2005, the first two phone calls that were made was to Samoa Joe and CM Punk. I got one but didn't get the other, but they both proved to be huge stars," D'Amore said. "When Joe came in here, he had a good following, a niche following, and we put him out there and put him in front of millions of people on TV and everything at the time and refine himself as a worker, so I consider Samoa Joe a 'homegrown talent.' Then you think about guys like Bobby Roode, and Eric Young, and these type of guys. They were guys that were plucked out of Border City Wrestling on the independents and then were given this thing where we worked with them, so we think it's great to see guys on SmackDown and NXT where guys that we worked with from day one are out there today.

"So having 'homegrown' talent is what is going to grow this company, but in addition to it, it's finding the right veterans," he continued. "It's Sting coming on board with us; it's Christian, who even though is still factored in to WWE, is going to walk away and come to us and bring an aura and credibility to him where we can use his talent and notoriety to help build our homegrown guys. So I think it needs to be a mix of established talent to be used to develop our homegrown talent."

ARO LUCHA ANNOUNCES SECOND LIVE EVENT IN TEXAS

Aro Lucha announced a second live event over the weekend for Friday 1/19/18 in Amarillo, Texas at the Azteca Music Hall.

The promotion previously announced an event for Saturday 1/20/18 in Lubbock, Texas at the Fair Park Coliseum On The Fairgrounds. 

The promotion, operated by the former Impact Wrestling minority owner, held its first TV taping, which was well received by reports we've received, several weeks ago in Nashville, TN with Rey Mysterio, CMLL star Rush, MVP, John Hennigan, Willie Mack, Jack Evans, Hurricane Helms and more appearing.

Pro Wrestling Eve drew 130 fans for a show announced with just 24 hours notice on Thursday night in London: Candy Floss b Chakara, Sadie Gibbs b Chakara, Bea Priestley b Livviii Grace, Charlie Morgan & Smash Nikko (an on-line TV star) b Rhea O'Reilly & Lionessa the Finessa (a UK radio personality). The show was taped for the YouTube show "Greatness."

Powerbomb.TV has signed a multi-year distribution deal with Smart Mark Video for 100 hours of content monthly. Beyond Wrestling has signed a multi-year live streaming deal with Powerbomb including a live show called the New Year's Eve party which will continue past midnight and is billed as the first wrestling match of 2018 with Joey Janela vs. David Starr. Powerbomb said they will stream a minimum of 52 events in 2018.

Best in the West did a TV taping last night at Fresno City College with a great show featuring Impact champion Eli Drake and other Northern California based stars. Funnybone beat Mike Rayne in a controversial main event to set up a cage match on 3/17 (St. Patrick's Day) in a cage in the same building. Drake and James Storm are scheduled and it'll be an iPPV on FITE TV.

Former Impact Star On Why They Left Impact Wrestling

Tyrus (also known as Brodus Clay/The Funkasaurus in WWE) spoke with Arm Drag Takedown with Pollo Del Mar on a number of pro wrestling topics. Here are some of the highlights via the Huffington Post:

 

Impact not wanting Tyrus to work for Jeff Jarrett when GFW was still a separate company:
"They didn't want me working for Jeff. Basically, it came down to either stay with Impact or I could go with Global. I was making more with Impact, and Global didn't have the resources to pay me what I was making."
Jarrett attempting to get Tyrus to come to GFW and then Jarrett showing up at Impact's tapings:
"He was basically saying it was better for me to come to Global, because Impact was about to fold. He was very adamant about that. Two weeks later, at the TV tapings, guess whose ass is there working the shows? Jeff Jarrett. I was like, 'B----, [are] you crazy?' Who does that? Check it: If I would have quit and taken money out of my family's mouths, went and worked there and then, 'Oh, we're going to have to go work Impact…' How would that have gone?"

Once Jarrett began working with Impact, Tyrus knew he had to leave:
"When Jeff Jarrett came along — because him and I have an uncomfortable history — I just wasn't comfortable with the management. ... Unless [Jarrett] and I were going to have a sit down - which just wasn't going to happen - I knew this was not going to be a spot for me. I just wasn't comfortable with it."

Above, Justin Credible made a video apologizing for his actions at a Blitzkrieg! Pro wrestling event. On Friday in Enfield, CT, Credible showed up to the event to do a pre-show signing and in-ring promo, but ended up getting drunk before the event. He got into the ring during the show, despite the promotion asking him not to and was eventually ushered away from ringside by the other wrestlers. In the video above, Credible said he's already talked with Diamond Dallas Page and looks to go on a journey to redeem himself with Page's help. Credible went on to thank a number of others who have helped him, including Sean Waltman and the WWE.

Z-MAN TOM ZENK PASSES AWAY AT 59

The Minneapolis Star Tribune is reporting that Tom "Z-Man" Zenk passed away on December 9th at the age of 59.  He was part of the Robbinsdale MN crew that included Nikita Koloff, Brady Boone, Curt Hennig, Rick Rude, John Nord and Barry Darsow.  His biggest run came in WCW in the early 90s.

We pass along our deepest condolences to him and his family.  You can read his obituary below.

Then maybe they should've done something to keep him, DUH! Backstage News On Impact Wrestling Being Upset With Former Star Signing With WWE

As noted, former Impact Wrestling X Division Champion & British Boot Camp winner Rockstar Spud (James Michael Curtin) is scheduled to debut with WWE at next week's RAW in Providence, RI and 205 Live in Newark, NJ. In the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer revealed that officials at Impact weren't happy with Spud's signing.

 

Spud is expected to immediately start in WWE's cruiserweight division. After he signed a contract with the WWE in October, the company was waiting on his working visa to come through so he can get started. Meltzer wrote that some people at Impact were upset because they had spent a significant amount of money to assist Spud with getting his visa taken care of before he quit to accept the WWE offer.

Spud had previously worked for Impact since 2012, when he beat Marty Scurll to win the British Boot Camp reality show to earn a contract. Impact spent nearly $20,000 in legal fees straighten out any issues with the immigration offices in the U.K. so Spud can return to the U.S. Two weeks after he returned to the country, he asked for his release from Impact and was granted it in September.

Spud is expected to be getting a prominent spot on 205 Live alongside the imminently debuting Hideo Itami and current cruiserweight champion Enzo Amore. With the impending non-televised live events for the cruiserweights, Spud will be a welcome addition to division.

The 12/14 edition of Impact did 161,000 overnight viewers, well down from last week's 226,000 overnight viewers.  That was the lowest number that they have done on POP TV, other than the two specials at the end of 2015 that weren't promoted and were shown basically at the last minute.  They did go up against Tribute To The Troops on USA.

The show did 255,000 overnight viewers on 12/7.  They are definitely trending in the wrong direction and obviously this new booking isn't a success. But of course they won't dare to admit that, eh?

Drunken Justin Incredible incident last night (so much for Praising WWE's Wellness Program)

There was an unfortunate incident with former WWE and ECW star Justin Credible last night at a Blitzkrieg Wrestling event in Enfield, CT.

According to sources at the promotion, Credible was booked to do a pre-show signing appearance and an in-ring promo but arrived in a condition described as "unable to perform" and was yanked from the show.  Credible, after being informed he was off the show, still hit the ring and took the ring mic, cut a slurring, expletive-filled promo before he was removed from the ring by a good portion of the locker room.

Video of the incident has been making the rounds online today.  In the video, Credible walked around the ring stating that he loves "this business" and that he wasn't hijacking the show and was leaving of his own volition.  An unidentified person connected to the company then yelled at Credible that he was "drunk and disturbing the show" and a "disgrace" and "tells people that you're sober but you're not."  Credible started to respond, muttering on the mic but was continously told to leave.

After Credible was finally removed from the ring, it took a long time to get Credible to leave the venue and into his ride home.

Just last month, Credible publicly praised the WWE Wellness Policy for helping him turn his life around, writing on his Twitter account: "When I retired from pro wrestling I honestly didn’t think I would miss it all that much. The last year of my life has been full of ups and downs. Most of them public. My struggles with addiction have been well documented. I’m pleased to say that TODAY i’m clean and sober.  Through the amazing help of the @WWE wellness program I am able to live a life I never thought possible with gratitude love and compassion. I also want to say that when I retired October 16 2015 I was not the person that you remember as Justin Credible.What I’m basically trying to say is 2018 is going to be the year that I redeem myself. Not only in the eyes of the fans but of my peers. I gave this business everything and in return I got lost along the way as so many do. This is in some gimmick to try to get bookings."

One person who was at the show described the incident as "the saddest thing" they had ever seen and noted they were concerned for Credible's well being.  I can say that after watching the video, so am I.
