“Til the Wheels Fall Off” has long represented the mentality behind No Holds Barred, a deathmatch wrestling promotion built on sacrifice, survival and the determination to keep moving forward.
The Chains Remain goes inside NHB97, the final event presented under the ICW No Holds Barred name. The documentary examines the physical, mental and emotional reality of competing in one of professional wrestling’s most unforgiving environments.
Promoter Danny Demanto, Australian wrestler Vixsin and inaugural champion John Wayne Murdoch share their experiences inside the world of deathmatch wrestling. Crew and fans provide additional perspectives on what goes into producing these events and why the style inspires such a dedicated following.
Together, their stories explore the preparation, punishment and personal sacrifice behind the violence. They also confront the stereotypes and misconceptions that many wrestling fans have about deathmatch wrestling and the people who participate in it.
Although NHB97 closed one chapter, the story did not end. No Holds Barred returned with NHB: The Chains, beginning a new era that carried the promotion toward its 100th event.
The name may have changed, but the mentality remains.
