Jerry Jarrett Passes Away
Jarrett was a key figure in the history of professional wrestling in the Mid-Southern United States.[4] Described as a "wrestling genius", he was inducted into the National Wrestling Alliance Hall of Fame in 2009.[6]
Jarrett founded the Memphis, Tennessee-based Continental Wrestling Association in 1977. In 1989, Jarrett merged his promotion with the Dallas, Texas-based promotion World Class Championship Wrestling, creating the United States Wrestling Association, which Jarrett sold to Lawler in 1997. He made another foray into promoting in 2002 when he co-founded NWA:TNA with his son Jeff Jarrett, selling his controlling interest to Panda Energy International later that year.
While working as a referee in the 1960s, Jarrett decided to become a professional wrestler. He was trained by his friend Tojo Yamamoto and veteran wrestler Sailor Moran. He wrestled his first match in Hayti, Missouri in 1965. After debuting, Jarrett formed a tag team with Yamamoto.[1][4][9] Jarrett spent the first few years of his career performing primarily for NWA Mid-America. Between 1970 and 1976, he won the NWA Mid-America Tag Team Championship once, the NWA World Tag Team Championship (Mid-America version) once, and the NWA Southern Tag Team Championship (Mid-America version) 10 times. Jarrett also performed for Gulas' Southeastern Championship Wrestling promotion, holding the NWA Tennessee Tag Team Championship in 1975.
In 1977, Jarrett founded the Continental Wrestling Association. In addition to booking the promotion, he also occasionally wrestled. Jarrett and Yamamoto became the inaugural CWA World Tag Team Champions in July 1980, losing the championship to Austin Idol and Dutch Mantel the following month. In 1985, Jarrett briefly wrestled under a mask as "The Hawaiian Flash".
Jarrett formally retired in 1988, although he broke his retirement in the mid-1990s to wrestle on a number of occasions for his United States Wrestling Association.[4]
In the early-1970s, Jarrett and his mother began promoting professional wrestling shows on behalf of Gulas in the Memphis area.[10][11] After a dispute with Gulas in 1977, Jarrett opted to break away and found his own promotion, the Continental Wrestling Association (CWA). With the support of Buddy Fuller, Jerry Lawler and Jarrett's mother, Jarrett built the CWA into a successful promotion, staging events each Monday that regularly sold-out the Mid-South Coliseum and airing television shows each Saturday morning on WMC-TV. In 1981, NWA Mid-America folded due to competition from the CWA with Gulas selling his territory to Jarrett.[3][1][11][12][13]
In 1979, The Freebirds wanted Jarrett to allow them to play Freebird on their entrances. They first tried it in the Mid-South Coliseum along with twirling the house spotlights. So Jarrett became one of the first promoters to use music and videos to promote his roster of wrestlers.[14][7]
In 1984, Jarrett entered into a talent exchange with Bill Watts' Mid-South Wrestling promotion. Jarrett and Lawler advised Watts to bring more young performers into his territory to attract a younger generation of fans; especially females since they bring their boyfriends to the shows.[14]
In 1988, Jarrett entered talks with Verne Gagne, owner of the Minneapolis, Minnesota-based American Wrestling Association, about a potential merger. After the talks were abandoned in 1989, Jarrett instead entered into a merger with the Dallas, Texas-based promotion World Class Championship Wrestling (WCCW) to create the United States Wrestling Association.[15]
After stepping away from professional wrestling, Jarrett operated a construction company and an international television distribution company.

For Whatever This Is Worth, At Least It's Been Acknowledged
This came in about an hour ago, so I'll acknowledge it for whatever it's worth.
They Future Endeavored themselves when they both made posts that had links that got red flagged by Google for "Social Engineering" content. there was a huge 'red warning' on our site that many people who visited the site encountered because of those posts.
I literally worked on and off for over 48 hours to unravel all the damage they did making them posts. I'm the one who created the site and when they went to try and fix their posts, it actually made things worse, and harder for me to fix. I also had to file reports with Google to inform them that the issues were corrected, that most of the posts I make have information plugging upcoming shows that independent wrestling companies regularly post, and not every post falls under the red flag they issued.
Because of that we lost a lot of regular viewers and, I lost good connections I had made and was maintaining with some very well known indy companies.
I offered to let them have this site and I'd go create another one on my own, but they decided to go venture off to do, whatever it is, they're going to do.
A lot of the damage they caused with people I know is irreparable so something had to give. I won't delete the past posts they made they made here. They contributed a lot to this so I'm going to leave the posts they've made here.
I'm going to run this site and changes have been made to it and it'll be me, myself and I running WP&P from this day forward.

Update (Of Sorts) On The Ian Carey Story I Did
This email came in a few hours ago and I figured this would be a useful way to Segway into an update on the story I did back on the 6th about WON/F4W staff writer Ian Carey caught stealing a story from PWInsider's Elite Membership site. https://wrestlingpastandpresent.blogspot.com/2023/02/wonf4w-staff-writer-blatantly-steals.html
I crossed out the name of the person who sent this, he, works for one of the more well known indy groups in this country, (DEFY, Prestige, AAW, Freelance, something on that level) and he requested that if I use this email I cross out his name, so I have.
The only thought I have is, nobody gives a fuck. The "marks" don't care, other wrestling news site writers and owners don't care, and Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez don't care. They evidently don't care how their staff writers get stories, even if they go onto another site's paid membership section and steal it, just as long as THEIR site has the story too. That's pretty much the message Meltzer and Alvarez, who own the WON/F4W site is sending. I know for a fact that not one, but TWO people emailed and messaged Meltzer for a comment on the story I did, and Meltzer has ignored those requests.
So his silence could be translated into, it's okay for Ian to keep getting stories that way so that way the site he own s gets clicks and views.
The other message this sends seems to be, if you have a subscriber page where people 'pay' for a subscription? You better get used to guys like Ian Carey coming in there and taking any story he wants, and post it as HIS exclusive on the site he writes for.
Ian Carey was called out on Twitter about this as well. I may, in the next couple days go ahead and post the screen shots I've received of him getting called out for stealing PWInsider's story that was posted in their Elite Section ONLY. He hasn't even tried to deny it, or even say my story wasn't true. He can't say it was a false story because the evidence is so obvious that a blind man can see Ian was busted red handed. Ian has chosen the Meltzer route and just stay silent on it instead of growing a set and manning up to what he did. Instead he chooses to be silent, OOORRR.. Does this.
Where I come from, we call hiding behind a block, a 'bitch' move. So instead of owning up to the obvious he acts like a bitch and hides behind a block.
People have called me an asshole for my constant stories on Mike Johnson scamming people, well it may be true that I AM, an asshole, Mike and it feels very strange me defending him, Mike doesn't need to go to other site's subscription sections to rip off stories the way Ian Carey apparently does. So while I may be the asshole who indirectly got PWInsider reported to the Better Business Bureau, I'm also the same asshole that had the balls to step up and bust out someone who blatantly stole from Mike & Dave Scherer's site.
The sad part is? Nobody cares, but if it was their site a guy like Ian stole from? You'd bet your ass they'd fucking care then. Then they'd start bitching and crying but they won't step up and do stories like this because they themselves get THEIR stories from places like PWInsider, Observer and WrestlingInc. It's the ONLY WAY, THEY, can feel like they, have a relevant site. Something we here at WP&P don't have to do, and prove that? Every single day.
