During today's New Japan Pro Wrestling Road to New Beginning tour finale in
Osaka, Japan, a video of Rey Mysterio played with the former WWE and WWE World
champion announcing that he was going to make his New Japan debut at the 3/25
Strong Style Evolved event in Long Beach, CAfrom the sold out Walter
Pyramid.
Mysterio then issued a challenge to the legendary Jushin "Thunder" Liger to face him on the show, which Liger immediately accepted.
The match will air on AXS TV live as part of the cable network's broadcast of the event.
Mysterio recently made waves with an excellent performance during his surprise return to WWE in the Royal Rumble last month. As many news sites reported at the time, Mysterio's appearance was a one night deal. Since then, Mysterio made it clear he and WWE are both open to working out something greater.
Before that can happen, however, two of the greatest masked wrestlers (who just happen to be two of the best junior heavyweight wrestlers of all time) will face off for the first time since WCW's Starrcade '96, which saw Mysterio get the win over Liger.
