AEW's Bryan Danielson spoke publicly for the first time on the recent WWE releases in addition to discussing his own contract with AEW -- one he said will likely be his last.
Speaking with Ariel Helwani on the MMA Hour, Danielson said he believes that if WWE can release wrestlers with a 90-day clause, wrestlers should also be able to give a 90-day notice.
"One of the things I have always had a hard time with, and I’ve been fired from WWE twice so I kind of get this, is that it's one thing if somebody does something bad. But, for example, if you’re under contract with WWE and you’re not happy, or you’re not happy with the company, or whatever it is, if they can fire you and give you 90 days, you should be able to give them 90 days to be released from your contract. I just think that that’s fair".
Danielson said he doesn't think it's right that WWE is releasing talent and claiming they are due to budget cuts when they are more profitable than ever.
"They signed a lot of people to high-end contracts when AEW kind of started to keep people from going to AEW or whatever it is. But then they realized that AEW can’t sign all these people. So now, the people who have too many high-end contracts....if they feel like they’re getting paid more than they should be getting paid, then they’ll let them go. But you offered them a contract to be with you for three years or whatever. If you overpaid them, that’s your bad. And, you’re still a very profitable company," he explained.
Danielson said he is under a three-year deal with AEW, confirming he is able to work in Japan as long as he gets clearance from AEW and that the company is his top priority in terms of dates. Chris Jericho is the only other wrestler to compete in Japan while under an AEW contract, primarily due to the pandemic restricting overseas travel.
Previously, Danielson called the next three years the "climax" of his in-ring career.
Yeah right, wanna bet?
Following our massive By Any Means Necessary supercard, Trevor Murdoch took some time to meet with the fans and take photos. This photo op was unfortunately cut short by Mike Knox who showed up uninvited. This is the raw footage of what followed.
“It’s 15 years in the making,” says Kingston. “I wouldn’t say it’s the biggest match of my career but it’s definitely the most personal match. Professionally, it was me and [Jon] Moxley last year because I truly believe in my heart that the AEW World title is the biggest prize in all of America. That was the biggest match for me, but this weekend, personally, it’s me and Punk.”
When Kingston showed up as a surprise opponent for Cody Rhodes on AEW Dynamite in 2020, fans may not have been familiar with the loud mouth indie darling. But from that point on, Kingston has made it his mission for the AEW viewers to never forget him.
Eddie Kingston believes that this newfound fame, which includes being booked on pay-per-views against top stars, is something that could change at any moment.
“When people tell you they always believed something was going to happen, I think they’re lying,” he said. “I’ve had doubts my whole career. I’ve had doubts my whole life. I did not expect this, and I have to pinch myself every once in a while. I still don’t think it’s real. I’m just trying to live in the moment. This can all be taken away at any moment just like 2020 has shown us.”
AEW fans and veterans of the business, including Eric Bischoff, hope that the rivalry between CM Punk and Eddie Kingston is just beginning to brew. However, Kingston says his sights are looking past Punk and toward his ultimate goal of becoming a champion.
“Fighting CM Punk was never the goal for me. He wasn’t there when I first got to AEW. The goal for me has always to be a champion. Whether it’s me and Mox as a tag team, the TNT championship, or the big one, the grand daddy of them all — the goal has always been to be the top man. If beating Punk gets me that one step closer to it, then that’ll be the icing on the cake."

Knowledgeable wrestling fans are no doubt well acquainted with Soulman Rocky Johnson, father to the Rock Dwayne Johnson and an accomplished pro wrestler in his own right. Rocky Johnson was born in Amherst, Nova Scotia and enjoyed a successful career that brought him to the WWF (where he co-held the WWF Tag Team Titles with Tony Atlas), the Pacific Northwest, Jim Crockett Promotions (where he donned a mask and used the name Sweet Ebony Diamond), Maple Leaf in Ontario, Stampede, and Florida, among other promotions. Johnson worked for George Cannon's Superstars of Wrestling in 1981 as part of Cannon's truce with the Tunneys in Toronto, which allowed Cannon access to some of the Maple Leaf stars like Johnson and Greg the Hammer Valentine. Here we have Rocky Johnson (wearing his Sweet Ebony Diamond mask and attire) battling one of the many El Santos, #2 to be exact. Following the bout is an interview with Johnson who discusses a recent confrontation with Swede Hanson & Bulldog Don Kent and who his tag team partner will be to face Hanson & Kent at the March 21, 1981 Cobo Hall show in Detroit. George Cannon & Milt Avruskin call the action for this match. I don't recognize the venue where this was taped, so any help identifying the location and city would be appreciated.

WWE NXT and 205 Live referee, Chloe Christmas, is now going forward as Paige. The WWE ref made the change on her Twitter account and encouraged fans to follow her new Instagram account.
Not a real interesting choice, but just obviously lazy on their part considering former NXT Women’s Champion and WWE Divas Champion Paige is still under contract with WWE.
You mean to tell me, out of al the choices they could 'creatively' come up with, THIS was the best they could 'creatively' scrape up? LMAO!
Paige was last regularly seen on WWE TV as the manager of the Kabuki Warriors (Asuka and Kairi Sane) in 2019. She did make an appearance (via Skype) on SmackDown in March of last year to announce a women’s title match for WrestleMania 36.
Paige also made the transition to co-host of WWE Backstage on FS1 in late 2019 until the pandemic brought that show to a halt.
More recently, the former champ has dropped hints about a possible return to the ring after a neck injury in 2017 forced her into retirement. Earlier this week, Paige also tweeted out for WWE to “bring back Nia” after Jax was among those released. she has been teasing a comeback and has said that her neck has been getting better. Her contract expires in a few months so, in theory, she could wrestle elsewhere if she gets cleared.
The WWE Superstar has since reacted to the news with a laughing emoji and a Spider-Man pointing meme. Which she has since deleted.
BUT.. She didn't delete in time because here it is.

Charlie Haas on Getting Attacked by a Fan in Irving Texas!
WWE Hall of Famer and former WCW World Heavyweight Champion Ron Simmons joined Stories With Brisco and Bradshaw to talk about his Hall of Fame career. Simmons‘ first big break in wrestling was as a member of the tag team “Doom” in WCW, alongside Butch Reed, who passed away earlier this year. He recalled the moment where he and Reed, into their run, learned that WWE Hall of Famer Teddy Long would be their manager.
“I still don’t know how that happened,” Simmons said. “Butch and I were together. We walk in there one day, and all of a sudden, here comes this little weaselly looking guy with a do-rag on his head. And all of a sudden he comes up and says, ‘hey, so here’s what we’re going to do right here on this interview.’ Butch and I are looking at each other like, ‘what the hell are you talking about? When did you get in here?’ He was like, ‘what, they didn’t tell you? I’m going to be your manager now.’ And you know how Butch is. He says, ‘man, you ain’t going to be managing me. You get out of here!'”
Simmons continued, explaining that Reed wasn’t as on board about the idea of the team as he was. He also mentioned how the team was originally based more on their race, and how great a time it was to work in the WCW tag team scene back then.
“I’m not exactly sure that Butch was really on board with it to begin with,” Simmons said. “I think that he still wanted to go on and do his singles thing a little more at that point, and I could see why he was still having reservations about doing it. When they first came and proposed it to me, of course I was on board with it because it’s Butch Reed, and he’s had some level of success in this business. This was a great opportunity for me. Right out of the gate, it came out that first they wanted to make it a little bit too racial. They wanted to name us Ebony Express. That was something that Butch and I vehemently said, ‘no, man. We don’t want to go out there and try to play this race thing. If we’re going to do this thing, we want to go out there and be these two characters that are good at what we do.’ That was one thing that had corrected to start out with. If it had been along those lines, you’d have to continue along those lines of playing the racist thing. If you’re going to break those barriers, you have to start somewhere. So we felt that wasn’t good for both of us at that time. I’m really glad we did that.
“Secondly, we had to come up with what we’re going to be named. The Road Warriors were already Legion of Doom and we were going to be working with them. So they decided they were just going to call us Doom. At that point, that’s how it came together. And then that’s when I got together with Butch and it was a big thrill for me. Sometimes, he and I didn’t see eye to eye. We had our ups and downs on the road, because Butch was his own man. You always knew where he stood — that’s what I loved about him. He was very helpful when it came to tag team skills. So I learned a lot from Butch during that time we were together. It was unbelievable. The best thing about it, at that point in tag team wrestling, you couldn’t have asked for a better period to be in a tag team. You had Rock N’ Roll Express, you had all these guys you could work with: Barbarian, Warlord, you had the Road Warriors, the Steiner Brothers. It was absolutely phenomenal. That’s the best thing I loved about it. You could get in there, work the way I think it should be short of killing someone, but working to the point where people understood, ‘hey, this guy’s really in a wrestling match.’ It was a phenomenal period of time, and I really loved working with all of those guys.”
Simmons then returned back to Long, who would manage Doom for a year until Simmons and Reed broke up at WrestleWar ’91 in February. Despite their initial misgivings, Simmons says Long proved to be a valuable member of the team.
“A lot of people don’t know that Teddy has done everything in this business,” Simmons said. “Here’s a guy who really paid his dues. He’s drove the ring truck, he’s been a referee, he’s done all facets of what you could do in this business. If there’s any guy that you want to listen to that has some knowledge of this business, it’s Ted. He was absolutely a welcome addition for Doom as we went on. He knew how to come in and how to garner heat as being our manager. He’s absolutely great on the mic. And he would come back and even give us pointers on how things went in the match, and we’d use them in the next match. He proved to be a very addition as our manager.”
