Mat Memory- IWA (PR)- Ricky Banderas VS Tommy Dreamer + Traición del Siglo 2001

(The Not So 'Retired' ) DJZ - All Of The Lights | AAW Films

A glimpse into DJZ's AAW career as he discusses his favorite memories, and favorite moments within AAW.

This Reminded me Of Why I Don't Watch WWE (LOL) MATT HARDY AND CHRIS JERICHO COME FACE TO FACE

Here's the video for anyone who missed it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mCu0-YEu0PU

Had I saw this live? I would've grabbed the remote and changed the channel.. And no, not to go watch NXT either.. To watch anything else.. Or I would've went to watch some decent indie stuff on YouTube.. This felt so much like something straight out of the WWE creative department.. It gave me the very same headache I get when I watch WWE programming..

But yet this is the very same AEW that claimed they were gonna be the alternative to WWE.. Watching this crap I fail to see where the alternative is. And this isn't the first time they've taken shit straight out of the WWE programming book either. I pointed that out in this story right here. https://billsbrandnewblog.blogspot.com/2019/10/aew-claims-it-wants-to-be-different.html

Some things change some things stay the same, like AEW claiming to be different than WWE but doing the exact same shit, WWE does. Makes you go, HHMMM.

Chris Jericho Recalls Idea He Pitched To Vince McMahon And How It Was Quickly Changed

In late 2018, Vince McMahon and his family came out on an episode of Raw promising "fresh ideas" and saying that the fans "were The Authority". Matt Hardy, who made his AEW debut on the latest episode of Dynamite, was on the latest episode of Talk Is Jericho and talked about a segment that he had pitched in response to The Authority segment.

"One that I thought was great was I pitched an idea to be off TV for a while and then start broadcasting vignettes from the Hardy Compound as Broken Matt, and you don't know what's happened. I had a backstory to get there, but I just said I want a meeting with The Authority with Vince or Triple H or whatever," Hardy said. "And this was after they came out in the end of 2018 I think, and they said we're going to listen to the fans. We're going to give them what they want. We haven't been listening to you. We're going to change our ways whatever.

"I want to speak with these guys, and they won't meet with me. And then like I start showing up and attack people backstage or production assistants, whatever it may be, and then eventually I get a meeting with Vince or Triple H or someone in The Authority in the ring. 'What do you want? You want to get fired? Do you want us to release you? What do you want? Why are you out here?' No, I don't want any of those things. I want to save the show because this is my home, and I love it here and you guys said in December of 2018 you're gonna start listening the fans and I don't think you have. I want to."

Hardy went into further detail about this segment. He had planned on calling it "The Broken Block" and planned on using wrestlers that were not being utilized and give them a showcase for a segment on Raw. However, he said he did not hear anything back about the idea.

"What I pitched [was] give me 10 to 15 minutes of the show, and I want to call it 'The Broken Block'. My idea was give me underutilized guys like Chad Gable and Ali and Apollo, guys that aren't being utilized at all. Let me put them on that show. Let them do badass things. Let me put some vignettes from the Hardy compound and House Hardy and just give me like 10 to 15 minutes, and I'll call it 'The Broken Block' every show and just see how it does," Hardy said. "These guys have matches in the arena. I'm almost like the commissioner or like I'm heading up this broken block, and we try to give Ali and Chad Gable a best-of-seven. Cut them loose. Let them have great matches. They'll become stars on their own just because of the quality of their matches, and then will interject a little Vanguard 1 and we'll have some of the you know House Hardy on it. 'The Broken Block'. 10 to 15 minutes that's all I was asking for. Never heard anything about it."

Hardy's idea reminded Chris Jericho of The Highlight Heel. He said that The Highlight Reel was also meant to put a spotlight on under-utilized wrestlers and make them into stars. However, Vince McMahon had other ideas for Jericho's show.

"It's funny as the original Highlight Reel, I pitched it as 'Jericho's Junction' because I was watching a bunch of Mean Gene Okerlund interviews and myself included," Jericho said. "When I first started doing interviews, he was the Jedi. If you didn't know what you were doing, Gene would lead you through the interview and make you look like a star, and I said, why don't we do Jericho's Junction where every week like a Piper's Pit, we bring out underutilized stars whoever they were at the time. I'll lead the interview. We'll get the people over. We'll get them to do interviews and connect with the crowd.

"Vince is like, 'I love it', and your first guest is Goldberg. I'm like, well Goldberg is not really the guy. I'm thinking more like Bull Buchanan. Nope Goldberg. Next week Scott Steiner. The next week, it's Rock. I'm like the whole concept of what I had is gone, and now it's just another talk show which is fine. That's great. But the original plan was much like you just like let's give some of these underutilized guys guys a spotlight where somebody like me or you knows how to bring them along."

Hardy talked about many times that money was not a big issue for him. He told Jericho that being world champion was not a priority for him. His goal was to help contribute to WWE and help other wrestlers while also getting his character over.

"I don't want to be the world champion. You don't need to keep me strong and TV. Let me contribute to the show in a productive way," Hardy said. "I said I can help out guys, and I can get my own character over by my utilization with these guys. I just never heard anything like about it."

Wade Barrett Says He Told WWE "I F--king Hate It Here" When They Tried To Keep Him

On the Art of Wrestling with Colt Cabana, Stu Bennett, f.k.a. Wade Barrett, knew that his journey with the WWE was going to come to an end with the WWE back in 2016, after sliding towards the mid to lower card. He recalls that time in his life challenging, but also inspiring since it helped him move towards better opportunities like NWA this past December.

"I left [the WWE] around April or May of 2016," Bennett recalled. "I told them that my contract was coming up, and I told them that I wasn't re-signing. They tried to make a couple of offers, and I told them 'It doesn't matter what you offer me, I need to leave. I f--king hate it here.' I loved my job until, probably, the end of 2014, beginning of 2015. I did some exciting things and some not so exciting things...I thought if I kept improving my physique, and I got ripped, that'll convince them. Maybe, I need a catchphrase. Maybe, I need a t-shirt that'll be a big sell. Maybe, I need to do more with my in-ring skills. There was always something in my head like I can improve this and I can improve that.

"By the time I got to 2015, I was sliding down the card. I was getting opportunities that I thought were kind of wasted. Like, I became the King of the Ring, which sounds like it should be impressive, but what it was followed up with was zero rises. It was like 'What are we going to do with these guys today? Ah, just have them wrestle for three minutes, and have this guy [Stu] go over...' Suddenly, after putting in all that effort, I had to climb up the card and get to where I wanted to be. It wasn't rewarding, to say the least. It was a realization that it didn't matter what I was doing there, I'm just waiting for one man to give me the thumbs up or thumbs down. I'm spending my whole career waiting and hoping that I get a thumbs up.".

Bennett mentioned that it took him a solid year to go back to having a normal day-to-day schedule, after the constant traveling he did in the WWE.

"I was really down [after leaving the WWE]. It's hard going from 280 days [on the road], to being off, which you're not really off because you're doing phone calls, getting your gear made, you're constantly in wrestling mode," Bennett noted. "Being someone who was recognized at the shop for being on TV two days a week, to being home all alone, it's a big period of decompression. Especially, when, it's like 'Oh man, it's Monday [for example],' then you go 'Oh wait, I don't work there anymore.'

"Then, there were things throughout the year that would occasionally come up, and I thought 'Ok, I got it out of my system now.' Then suddenly, it would be like WrestleMania season, and everybody is sending pictures from WrestleMania. Then, I'd be thinking, 'Man, I should be at WrestleMania. No, no, I'm not there anymore.' It took me a long time, probably a year to get all of that out of my system."

One thing that Bennett did appreciate the WWE for was their generosity, in terms of how much they paid him. Whether it was towards his in-ring career, to the movie roles he did through WWE Studios (Eliminators), or his character being used in the WWE 2K video game series, he made sure to conclude his interview by saying how fortunate he was for the paychecks he received there.

"I thought they made a mistake when they sent me my first video game check," Bennett informed. "The money they were paying back then, is less than they're paying them now. But back then, it was crazy money. Like, I thought they genuinely made a mistake, and I didn't know what to do. But, when you start getting these checks, and you've had nothing, ever, and you're struggling... getting these checks was a big deal."

Samoa Joe's Suspension Has Ended

As of today, Samoa Joe's WWE Wellness Policy suspension has passed and he would once again be available for WWE once he is written back into company storylines.

that means it's possible he could appear in some form at Wrestlemania 36 when it is taped this week and broadcast on 4/5 and 4/6.

MATT HARDY DEBUTS ON AEW DYNAMITE, JOINS BLOOD & GUTS MATCH

He wasn't the Exalted One after all, but Matt Hardy did make his anticipated AEW debut Wednesday nonetheless and already has a high profile match booked.

At the close of Dynamite, Chris Jericho and The Inner Circle were running down members of The Elite for being a man down in their upcoming Blood & Guts double cage match when a buzzing could be heard, followed by Hardy's Vanguard 1 drone landing in the ring.

Matt Jackson said their team wasn't actually outnumbered (Nick Jackson is injured in storyline) as he had made a phone call to someone that owed him a favor. The piano music from Hardy's "Free The Delete" series played and the camera panned up in the stands where he appeared, dressed up in his "Broken" garb.

Hardy will join Kenny Omega, Hangman Page, Jackson, and Cody Rhodes in the War Game-style match against Chris Jericho, Sammy Guevara, Santana, Ortiz, and Jake Hager which is planned for next week's Dynamite assuming that is still possible due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

On his YouTube series, Hardy has teased coming to AEW with the Young Bucks making appearances. His WWE deal ran up earlier this month.

Dear cherished CAC members and reunion attendees,

Due to the COVID-19 protocol and our concern for everyone’s health, we will be postponing the 55th Cauliflower Alley Club reunion scheduled for April 27–29.

We are currently working with the Gold Coast Hotel & Casino for new dates for the 55th in the fall, most likely mid-September. However, we will keep you abreast as soon as we get the exact dates nailed down.

Please contact the Gold Coast Hotel & Casino for a 100% refund of your deposit (room reservations 888-402-6278). If you so desire to still go to Vegas during the April dates, the Gold Coast will honor your discounted room rates; however, please remember that this will not be an official gathering by the CAC.

As far as reunion tickets purchased, you have 3 options:

Get a refund by contacting Dean Silverstone

Apply your reunion ticket to the new dates, most likely in mid-September

Donate your ticket purchase to the benevolent fund and get a tax receipt

As far as flights go, the airlines are being very flexible due to the COVID-19 virus.

We apologize for the inconvenience and hope that this pandemic runs its course sooner than later. We also hope and pray that neither you or your families have contacted this serious virus.

Thank you very much for your understanding and we greatly appreciate your support of the CAC and the many people from the wrestling industry in which your generosity has helped so much, during their most dire financial challenges.

Healthy wishes from all of our CAC volunteers.

Gary Cappetta Talks Problems With Today's Pro Wrestling Style

Gary Cappetta has been a wrestling ring announcer since 1974 so he's seen several different eras of pro wrestling. This current era is emphasizing the athleticism and aerial abilities of performers and no one does a better job of that than AEW.

Cappetta was a guest ring announcer for Dynamite a few weeks ago and he was asked about the promotion's high-flying style on The Wrestling Epicenter.

"Well, I keep up with it. I have seen a change in AEW – and this is just a guess on my part – that it is a result of the coaches that they have brought in like Arn Anderson, Tully Blanchard, Bully Gunn, and Dean Malenko," said Cappetta. "I've seen them get a little bit more grounded. It is not the flying I have a problem with in any kind of pro wrestling, it is when people do things that are not logical…

"That is what I don't understand. I don't get it. If you're trying to bring people into the moment, you wouldn't do something that was illogical in a situation where your goal is to either pin someone or make them submit. We can't get away from that. Once you get away from that, then it is not pro wrestling. That is fine if it entertains people but then call it something different. But, once you start doing things that are illogical towards those goals, you lose me."

He said that type of wrestling should be called something else and many have labeled this style as "performance art" rather than pro wrestling or sports entertainment. Cappetta was asked for his thoughts on that phrase.

"You can call it that but you still have the same goals. I think the problem is too many of today's wrestlers are impatient and they need some kind of reaction from the crowd every 45 seconds," stated Cappetta. "If you look at it that way, it makes perfect sense why there's very little selling, why it is strike after strike after strike as opposed to understanding that if you're working well, you can have an audience that is taking in everything that you're doing.

"The only action isn't a 'WOW' reaction and it doesn't mean that you're not entertaining folks. We always had different styles – usually different styles on one card. I think you fall into the trap of everyone doing the same style. It would be like going to a concert and hearing the same song over and over and over again. After a while, you're going to be beyond that."

Some think that the current style of pro wrestling has alienated many of the older fans who grew up on a different style. Cappetta talked about wrestling's current state and what can be attributed to what we see on TV now.

"Wrestling has evolved. I think what has happened, and what has happened for the past couple of decades, is probably because of the internet. Younger people have been able to view wrestling styles from all over the world and those styles are now being incorporated into US wrestling," stated Cappetta. "Then there are those older folks who haven't been exposed to that."

He then compared it to when Garth Brooks held concerts and propelled from the rafters onto the stage. That was something that old-school country fans weren't used to and probably didn't think it belonged in country music.

"I think we have a tendency to pit generations against one another. I'll never be the kind of guy that says what we had in the past was great and what we have today is not. I think we tend to forget the stuff that was not so great in the past and things in the past that were not believable at all. But we just tend to overlook them," Cappetta said before using Gorilla Monsoon as an example.

"When he first made his debut in the WWWF, he was the Manchurian Giant. He didn't speak English. He was this wild man who just grunted and he had Wild Red Berry as his manager [laughs]. How realistic is that? And then, somehow, the people just accepted that this man became a well-spoken individual! He was away for a few months, came back, and had a full vocabulary! A lot of old-time fans have a tendency to forget those types of things and they really shouldn't do that."
