Tommy Dreamer Recalls Incident That Might Be Keeping King Kong Bundy Out Of The WWE Hall Of Fame

With WrestleMania being "The Show of Shows", Superstars who main event 'Mania are considered to be among the elite and have reached the peak of their profession. Thus, it comes as a surprise when anyone who once main evented a WrestleMania isn't in the WWE Hall of Fame à la King Kong Bundy who dueled with Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania II.
Bundy died earlier this month so any call to the hall will be a posthumous one for him. Tommy Dreamer speculated why Bundy isn't in the WWE Hall of Fame and also talked about Bundy's time in ECW.
"King Kong Bundy was in the original ECW," stated Dreamer on his House of Hardcore Podcast. "I want to say the match was Terry Funk and King Kong Bundy vs. Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart and Road Warrior Hawk. This was during Eastern Championship Wrestling but it was still ECW. The biggest stipulation going into that was King Kong Bundy had gone right to Paul Heyman, who I didn't really know that well at the time, and he said to Paul, 'Paul, no matter what you don't ever air this on television.'
"Paul gave him his word and that he won't air it. To Paul Heyman's credit, he never aired that match. If it wasn't that specific match it was a combination of all four of them, can't remember, but it wasn't a great match. The fact that Paul Heyman lived up to those stipulations up until WWE recently had released that footage...it was an ongoing joke between me, Taz and Bubba Ray Dudley and when we talk about Paul Heyman where we say, Paul Heyman is like Darth Vader. There is some good in him, we just have to draw it out of him."
It's unknown why Bundy didn't want the match aired, but it was likely due to ring rust from being away from wrestling for so long. After being released by WWE in 1988, Bundy went into semi-retirement before popping up for that ECW event in 1993.
As for Bundy not getting into the WWE Hall of Fame, Dreamer says a voice message-turned-email exchange from Bundy in 2005 might have sealed his fate.
"ECW goes out of business and this is when I am doing Talent Relations for WWE. This is when Randy Orton is doing the 'Legend Killer' gimmick and he is going into a feud with The Undertaker," said Dreamer. "For Atlanta, GA they wanted someone from The Undertaker's past to come and do something and show up, and Randy Orton to go out and do something with them. The person had to be a heel. We are all thinking, and Creative would shoot an email to Talent Relations asking if there were any suggestions. So, I am going through my Rolodex of ideas and I'm thinking of guys like Ted DiBiase, King Kong Bundy, Jimmy Snuka and I don't remember the rest. It came back and they thought that King Kong Bundy would be a great idea, do you have any information for him? I said that I could get it."
Dreamer then said that in these situations it often felt like everyone within WWE was waiting on him to deliver Bundy to creative which gave him a very pressurized job.
"I make the call and 15 minutes go by, 30 minutes by and you start getting a text wondering if I've heard anything. So, I got nothing," said Dreamer. "Then, I was like, well I can always reach out to Jimmy Snuka as well, and there are other people because there is a lot of politics.... I said that I can reach out to Jimmy Snuka and they said that we need a heel, so I was like, alright, thanks for heeling me.
"Now Johnny Ace is asking if I had heard anything and I was like, 'dude, I left him a message'. He asked if I have his cell phone number, and I said that I have one number and this is how I got him. I go home and the next day I come back to the office and I sit down and I see my phone voice mail is flashing, which it would always be flashing because I would always have these wrestling hopefuls hitting me up. I get the message from King Kong Bundy:
"'Hey Dreamer, it's Chris King Kong Bundy. How are you doing? Congratulations on the spot. Hey man, this is not on you, always been cool and friends with you so I need you to relay this message to WWE, especially to Vince McMahon. Number one, you need to tell him that he needs to pay me the money that he owes me. Number two, unless there is a creative idea for me winning the title I have no interest in it because he promised me the title when I put over Hulk Hogan and he never delivered so please go tell him to go f--k himself. Tommy, I love you, remember when I wanted to be your brother? Take care. I will see you later.'"
Dreamer says that he's not the most politically correct person, so he sent out an email to everyone in WWE Creative including Vince McMahon, Bruce Prichard, Michael Hayes, Stephanie McMahonand Johnny Ace simply stating that Bundy declined the offer. Then he got replies back asking what Bundy said, and Dreamer then replied back with exactly what Bundy told him.
"I said that he declined the offer because he wasn't too happy with the current climate of WWE," said Dreamer. "Then I got the same response: 'What did he say?' I was like, alright, so I said exactly what he said about he wants the money he was owed, and unless we have an idea to put the title on him and for Vince McMahon to go f--k himself.
"I want to say that within four minutes of sending that email here comes Johnny Ace as my boss, he is running down from the Talent Relations office, he's like, 'What the hell is wrong with you? Why would you send that?' I was like, what? They kept asking me. You are in the chain of emails. He's like, 'You just told Vince McMahon to go f--k himself!'
"I said that I did not tell Vince McMahon to go f--k himself, King Kong Bundy said to tell Vince McMahon to go f--k himself. Johnny said to me, 'What am I going to do with you?' That was money to what John would say to me or the other question he would ask is what is wrong with me. Look, when someone asks me a question, I have to do it, and the reply was from Chairman Vince McMahon, he replied back saying, 'Moving forward.'"

Proof That The Current WWE Product And Wrestlemania Isn't Getting Over So Well

The current prediction for the crowd at Raw tomorrow in Boston is 10,500 to 11,000. We still haven't had a major arena Raw sellout for Mania season, Chicago was thought Monday to be one for sure and that didn't happen.

If that isn't a hint that WWE fans see the pruduct as sucking ass, I don't know what wil. But of course, WWE will ignore this, as usual.

Defiant Westling's Loaded #16: A New Era Begins

Low Ki Discusses His Status With Impact Wrestling

Low Ki has wrestled all over the world and for numerous promotions, but it's clear he has an affinity to Impact Wrestling. He's had four different stints with the company and is back again and will compete at United We Stand next month.
The veteran wrestler was a part of the Impact media call last Thursday where he was asked him if he would ever entertain a producer position with Impact.
"At that capacity, not at the moment although it's something that seems reasonable to be explored," revealed Low Ki. "I have the most experience in the company and I can come from a perspective of success and not just speculation. I could definitely convey stuff that would help them if that was something of interest."
Outside of Impact, Low Ki has been competing with MLW where he is a former heavyweight champion.
"I've been focused on MLW for the past year and I've succeeded rather well in maintaining that focus," said Low Ki.
With Impact, Low Ki will be taking on LAX who is managed by Konnan. Low Ki and Konnan have a long history and most recently ran into each other in Konnan's hometown of Miami.
"He had a point proven to him in Miami and now he's got my people, people from New York, people from my background," Low Ki said of LAX's Ortiz and Santana. "He's gotten in their heads thinking that they're big fish in a small pound and now they want to call out a shark."
Low Ki thinks that Konnan is exploiting Ortiz and Santana and he compared Konnan to the mafia who used to launder their money through wrestling promoters.
"He has associated himself with every generation's stars," Ortiz said of Konnan. "This is the same method that all of the hustling promoters have pulled on wrestlers for years….Now Santana and Ortiz, we were once standing side-by-side and now you wanna stand across from me? You wanna say respect "may" be there? Do you realize what you're talking about? Do you realize who you're speaking to?"
If that wasn't clear enough, Low Ki then made it official by accepting LAX's challenge.
"Yes, at United We Stand, we will be standing across from LAX," Low Ki said of he and partner Ricky Martinez.
With so many stints with Impact Wrestling, Low Ki was asked to describe his status with the promotion.
"You have to take everything one step at a time and I've always done that," stated Low Ki. "I guess that's the reason why I've been allowed to return several times because everything is a step-by-step process...
"I've always approached everything on a one-step-at-a-time basis. This is another one-step-at-a-time basis just as it was in 2017, just as it was in 2014 and before that. I don't go in with any expectations other than the expectations out of myself which is I'm showing up, I'm getting busy and I'm going home."
Low Ki will team with Ricky Martinez to take on LAX, with Konnan, at Impact Wrestling's United We Stand on April 4th. It will be streamed live via Twitch.

Jim Ross On The Main Reason Why He's Leaving WWE

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross appeared on ESPN's Outside The Lines program and confirmed that he has been in talks with All Elite Wrestling. JR's current WWE contract does not expire until March 29. You can see full video from the OTL appearance above.
Regarding his WWE departure, Ross said he only had two bookings in 2018 and that was it. "I had two bookings in 2018, so I kind of felt the writing was on the wall," he said.
Ross technically had three dates in 2018 - the RAW 25th Anniversary show, the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal on the WrestleMania 34 Kickoff pre-show, and the Greatest Royal RumbleKickoff pre-show panel. Ross said on his podcast that he recently spoke with WWE Chairman Vince McMahon and the two mutually agreed that it was time to move on.
JR told OTL host Ryan Smith that it came down to a matter of wanting to remain active and stay working. He said it was simply time to move on from WWE with the hope of finding a more creatively fulfilling role with another promotion.
"I miss being around people," JR said. "The main reason I'm leaving WWE is because they weren't using me very much, and I feel like I've got some great years left. I needed to get out of the house, and I need to be involved. I need to be on the road, and I need to be around people."
Ross noted that he did not want to sit at home stagnant and dwelling on the past. He had to deal with the sudden loss of his wife Jan back in 2017 as he was returning to WWE under the two-year contract.
"Two years ago this month I lost my wife in a car accident, about 30 seconds from our garage in Norman ... there's no grieving manual that I've ever read, or been recommended to, that tells you how to get through this stuff," he said. "All I know is you've gotta keep getting up, and you've gotta keep taking steps forward."
Ross still has nothing but praise for WWE and the McMahon Family.
"I had no issues, I wasn't mad at anybody -- there's no major controversy here," Ross said. "I believe WWE in general, as most television producers do, want to get younger. I've been around since the mid-70s doing this job that I truly love doing. When I was unable to get booked, to be utilized, I had to look for Plan B, and Plan B was, 'let's step away gracefully.' Vince McMahon and his family have been amazing to my family."

For those who missed our previous report, Ross confirmed that he's been in talks with AEW, but nothing has been signed. He said, "I don't know, we're talking. I just haven't signed anything yet. My people and their people are doing their thing. The only agent I grew up knowing was a State Farm agent in Oklahoma, I got a real agent now, man. So, they're working on it. I'd like to get into some voice-over work, I'd like to do some... I wouldn't mind having a radio gig doing college football."

Alberto El Patron Admits He Made A Mistake By Disrespecting Triple H, Talks Possible WWE Return

Former WWE Champion Alberto El Patron (Alberto Del Rio) recently spoke with Super Luchas and said he is now on good terms with WWE and specifically Triple H.
"There were many great moments in WWE, but the most special was to win the Royal Rumble of 40 wrestlers. I swore that they were going to do another Royal Rumble to take away that privilege from me, with 41 wrestler, but they have not," Alberto said in highlights sent to us. "Now everything is normal with them, I apologized and shook hands, even with Mr. Levesque [Triple H], with whom I do not agree on many things, especially how things ended and how they were done [when he was fired in 2014], but I should never have crossed the line and disrespect him. A man can only be called a man by admitting his mistakes. I lived a very difficult stage in my life: 1 year and 2 months in which I had to win the most difficult battle of my life that was against myself."
Alberto has spoken out about Triple H a few times over the years, most notably during a drunk rant on Periscope in April 2017. This was while he was dating Paige. During the rant, Alberto talked about "keyboard warriors" and made a reference to Triple H. He said, "You remind me of one of the bosses in WWE, with the big f--kin' nose, big f--kin' pussies."

During the same rant, Alberto continued ranting on Triple H. He said, "Ya know, I'm close to the next town. Stamford. I could pay a visit to somebody. Stamford is only forty-five minutes away. That's where all the pussies live, right? I could go there and just knock on someone's door, 'Hey, big nose with the small dick.'"
Alberto says now things are normal with his former employer.
Regarding a potential return to WWE, Alberto said the door is open for him to go back there before he retires from the ring.
"Returning to WWE before retiring is not a question of whether they want to or I want to return," Alberto said. "Neither I hope nor want to return nor do they expect me to return or want me to return. But the two of us have had approaches, especially to make the peace, which opens the door to the fact that before I hang up my boots I can have some last matches in WWE. I clarify it: neither they beg me, nor I beg them. It's just that the door is open for a future."
Patron made a surprise return to WWE at Hell In a Cell 2015, defeating John Cena to win the WWE United States Title, and he last appeared for the company on the August 16, 2016 SmackDown episode, losing to Cena. He debuted for Impact Wrestling in March 2017 and last appeared for them in March 2018. He has worked just a few indie events since then.

David Starr pulls promo critical of ROH and Sinclair ahead of match against Jay Lethal in Israel in April, ROH statement on who was responsible for getting it pulled

David Starr cut a promo that was heavily critical of Ring of Honor and Sinclair Broadcast Group, the parent company of ROH, ahead of his upcoming match against ROH World Champion Jay Lethal on April 21 in Netanya, Israel for Israeli Pro Wrestling Association. In the video, Starr was critical of ROH and called out Sinclair for being a right win propaganda machine.
I’ll tell you something else that’s a joke. It’s that Ring of Honor Wrestling used to represent pure, independent professional wrestling instead of representing a far-right wing extremist corporate propaganda machine, said Starr. Did you think it was kind of a cute publicity stunt? Let the little Jew boy get a flight to Israel to wrestle for your championship? Is that what you thought?
Starr ended up pulling the promo and issued a statement on his Twitter saying the “powers that be” asked him to remove the promo.

Starr did not mention who asked him to remove the promo, but has since released a shirt with his face on it that says censored over his mouth with Sinclair is Scared over it.  Starr tweeted out information on how to buy the shirt with the caption “Sinclair is Scared.” You can see the shirt below in a tweet from Starr:

Pro Wrestling Sheet managed to save the promo from Starr. You can see his entire promo here. https://twitter.com/i/status/1108394083939082240
Starr is not under contract to Ring of Honor, but he has wrestled for the company several times in the past. He is currently one of the most notable free agents on the independent scene and has made a name for himself wrestling in the U.S. and internationally, especially in the WXW promotion based out of Germany and OTT recently.
Starr, who is Jewish, mentioned in the video that ROH would wake up to their worst nightmare if he won their championship. “You’ll have to wake up to the fact that your championship is now represented by a progressive Jew named David Starr,” said Starr.
Many News outlets reached out to Ring of Honor for a statement on the situation on whether or not they asked for Starr to pull the video. Ring of Honor responded by saying that this matter was handled by the promoter in Israel.
If Starr hadn’t pulled his promo and Lethal did get pulled from the show, I think ROH would have had a PR nightmare on their hands and would have had to back down. The way things have gone down, Starr having to pull the video has proven him right in terms of the content of his promo.

ROH Star Unhappy With Booking (Then Leave, Dumb Ass)

Pretty easy solution, especially now with so many other places to go. But hey, easy concepts like that seem to fly over people's heads for some reason.

Sting On The One Opponent Who Could Bring Him Out Of Retirement (The Answer Won't be Surprising)

It's the same he always gives (yawns).

WWE Hall of Famer Sting recently spoke with Wrestling Travel and revealed that he would come out of retirement for just one opponent - The Undertaker.
"I mean, everyone knows who it would be. Taker, he's the only guy I'd come out of retirement for now. No one else," Sting said. "We could just never get it together to make it happen. When I started talking to WWE he was booked with Brock and then I did the deal with Triple H and he had another feud going on at the time, so it was just one of those things we couldn't make happen.
"But I don't regret it not happening either, I mean I got to face Triple H at my first WrestleManiaand then wrestle Seth for the world title, so I didn't do too badly out of that deal. But yeah, now, the only person I'm getting back in the ring for is Taker."
The 60 year old Stinger also confirmed that there were no concrete plans for his WWE run before he suffered the injury in the 2015 Night of Champions match against Seth Rollins, which led to his retirement.
"There weren't really any set plans for me after the Seth match if I hadn't got injured," Sting confirmed. "The idea was just for me to have one off matches here and there, but I didn't have any planned opponents or anything like that, we were just going to see what was best for business at the time."

JARRETT VS. IMPACT LAWSUIT UPDATE (Yes, This Bullshit Is STILL Going On)

Jeff Jarrett’s attorneys filed a motion asking for an extension in filing an extension allowing them until 4/12 to submit an update on where things stand with the lawsuit he and his company Global Wrestling Entertainment have filed against Impact Wrestling parent company Anthem.

The request (which Anthem’s attorneys have agreed to) is due to Jarrett’s travel schedule, responsibilities his attorneys have on a matter not related to the lawsuit, and international travel required of Anthem’s attorneys preventing all sides from being able to meet for a conference on the case.  It was noted all sides are working on figuring out when they will be able to meet.
