WWE'S HOWARD FINKEL PASSES AWAY AT 69 YEARS OLD
One of the most recognizable voices in wrestling history has passed away as WWE announced Thursday that Hall-of-Fame ring announcer Howard Finkel has died at 69 years old.
No cause was given for his death, but his health condition had worsened in recent years.
Finkel was WWE's first employee after being hired by Vince McMahon Sr. in 1975 for the then-WWWF. The voice of Madison Square Garden house shows, he eventually became the company's primary ring announcer until 2000 when Lillian Garcia and Tony Chimel took over on Raw and SmackDown, respectively. By the mid 2000s, he was taken off pay-per-views and did mainly voiceovers with occassional appearances throughout the years on various shows while remaining employed as a WWE historian.
Through the years, Finkel got involved in several in-ring angles including one with Harvey Wippleman that culminated in a tuxedo match on Raw and another where he lost to Garcia in a tuxedo/evening gown match, also on Raw.
He also came up with the name "WrestleMania."
He was inducted into the WWE Hal of Fame in 2009 and the Wrestling Observer Hall of Fame in 2018.

Another Example Of Why Some People Shouldn't Run A Wrestling "Efed".
Another example of why I need to stay away from fantasy wrestling, called 'efeds'. The guys who run these today really have no clue to properly run them and they think burying a guy with a 'constant losing streak' is a 'bigger picture'. The truth is and I pointed it out with a few other valid points, I did a better job at 'hyping the match' than the guys i was facing. So much so that the two other guys i was facing didn't even try and reply back to it. They knew they couldn't top it but for some reason this efed owner doesn't want to see valid points and can't seem to conceive the fact that people with issues bringing the issues to efed owner comes with the territory, which shows he really doesn't have what it takes to be an 'efed owner'. I have the promo in question that surely put me over the top for a 'win' on YouTube so I'll post the link so you can why, the others wouldn't and couldn't even try and retaliate or answer it.
Here's the link to the promo that the others couldn't answer to cause they knew it topped everything they had come up with. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lB6Tiy-CKEA&t=25s

Sheriff's Deputies Called To WWE PC Over COVID-19 Order
The Orange County Sheriff's Department reportedly visited the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, FL several times over the last few weeks, in March and April, to tell the company that it was not in compliance with the "stay-at-home" Executive Order issued by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, and that they had to shut the tapings down, according to Orlando reporters Jon Alba and Stephanie Coueignoux.
Alba reports that Orange County deputies were called again on Monday regarding the live RAW that aired on the USA Network. However, the new Executive Order from DeSantis, signed on April 9, already allowed for WWE to continue operations as an essential business. There's no word on who was calling the sheriff's department or how many calls they received since March. Coueignoux said deputies told her that on Monday "someone called to say there would be taping at the location that evening" and they responded to the Performance Center again before RAW, but the April 9 order allowed WWE to continue.
As noted, Governor DeSantis issued an amended Executive Order this past Thursday, April 9, that deemed WWE an essential business, allowing them to stay in business.
The full memo from the Division of Emergency Management, from the amended Executive Order from DeSantis, allows WWE and other sports-related businesses to resume operations. The amended order, issued to the Florida Division of Emergency Management from DeSantis and State Coordinating Officer Jared Moskowitz, includes the following:
As Director of the Division of Emergency Management, designated the State Coordinating Officer per Executive Order 20-52 for the public health emergency (COVID-19), in accordance with Executive Order 20-91 I approve the following as additions to the list of "essential services" for the purposes of that Executive Order:
1. Employees at services and programs addressing metal health, substance abuse, domestic violence and other urgent counseling, to the extent those services may be offered within social distancing guidelines.
2. Employees at theme park and entertainment complexes, zoological parks and facilities, and aquarium facilities, all of which are closed to the general public, who are necessary for: (a) ensuring the health, safety and security of persons, animals, and property (b) maintaining the value of inventory; (c) preserving plant, property and equipment condition; (d) maintaining regulatory compliance; (e) processing payroll and employee benefits; (f) facilitating the availaility of employees working remotely; and (g) other activities otherwise necessary to preserve and maintain the facilities.
3. Employees at a professional sports and media production with a national adience - including any athletes, entertainers, production team, executive team, media team and any others necessary to facilitate including services supporting such production - only if the location is closed to the general public.
That last item would apparently allow WWE and AEW to continue taping in the state of Florida, on closed sets, as they have national audiences. There's no word yet on if this means AEW will return to Daily's Place in Jacksonville, or if they will remain in Norcross, GA for their next set of tapings. They reportedly have enough content to run through mid-May.
Alba noted that DeSantis commented on WWE at a press conference today.
DeSantis said he feels the people need to support events if they can be done safely like NASCAR, and Woods-Mickelson. The Governor said, "Obviously WWE, there's no crowd or anything, so it's a very small number of people. So we just look at it at a case by case basis."
DeSantis was also asked specifically about essential businesses being given the OK to operate and WWE was used as the example, according to Alba. It was noted that DeSantis briefly touched the topic, then spoke at length on other sports he'd like to see back operating in the Sunshine State, emphasizing their importance. He then walked off the podium. Alba stressed that the amended order means just about any Florida sports league can resume operations now, but they're choosing not to. The NBA's Orlando Magic could hold a scrimmage game tomorrow if they wanted to.
We noted on Monday that Orange County, FL Mayor Jerry Demings revealed at a press conference how WWE was originally deemed non-essential, but that was changed after "some conversation" with DeSantis' officer in regards the stay-at-home order. Demings said then WWE was allowed to remain open, but he did not mention other sports leagues being included in that amended order. As noted in a later report on Monday, spokesperson from DeSantis office told ESPN on Monday evening that such services were deemed essential "because they are critical to Florida's economy."
Regarding Monday's press conference held by Orange County Mayor Demings, it was noted that county officials are the ones that originally deemed WWE to be an unessential business, after a review. That was overturned by DeSantis' office with the amended Executive Order, which allowed all sports leagues to continue, as mentioned above.

HHMM, Isn't THIS Quite Convenient - FLORIDA DEEMING WWE 'ESSENTIAL' DRAWS CRITICISM, POLITICAL TIES EXAMINED
Florida governor Ron DeSantis' decision to deem "professional sports and media production with a national audience" as essential businesses, clearing the path for WWE, AEW, and UFC to run events, drew criticism Tuesday with Linda McMahon coming into focus.
WWE resumed their regular weekly TV schedule at the Orlando, FL, Performance Center Monday, just three days after Vince McMahon changed his mind on the doorstep of a multi-day taping that would have covered the company for weeks.
Questions were raised at how they were able to make that decision given the state's previous order that only essential businesses remain open. On Monday, that was answered as it was revealed the state government issued a memo on April 9th that all professional sports could return to business if the location was closed to the public.
Coverage of the decision was featured in a variety of news outlets that don't normally cover wrestling like CNBC, The Guardian, USA Today, and more.
Stephanie Coueignoux and Jon Alba of Central Florida's Spectrum News 13 performed a further investigation into the situation Tuesday, noting that the Orange County Sheriff's Department was dispatched to the PC in both March and April, advising WWE they were not in compliance and would have to close down. Days later, pro sports, including WWE, ere added to the essential business list.
However, Spectrum News 13, providing a timeline, found that the change of heart came on the same day as a pro-President Donald Trump super PAC (political action committee) announced that they were going to spend $18.5 million in both the Tampa and Orlando markets. That super PAC is headed up by Linda McMahon, Vince McMahon's wife, and the former head of Trump's Small Business Administration. DeSantis has been known as an ally of Trump, a WWE Hall-of-Famer and friends with Vince.
Vince's decision to resume live WWE programming at the PC happened the next day.
In a statement to Spectrum 13, DeSantis' office said WWE was critical to Florida's economy and the employees at those locations benefit. WWE was set to hold WrestleMania in Tampa this year, generating millions for the local economy, before having to move it to the PC.
While no make-good for WrestleMania has been announced, Tampa could be a fallback option if WWE is unable to hold next year's event in Los Angeles, CA, as previously scheduled due to lingering issues related to the pandemic.
On Tuesday afternoon, Trump said at a press conference that Vince and UFC president Dana White would join a group of sports commissioners in helping figure out how to get things "re-opened" in the country.

Get... A Load Of THIS Bullshit- FLORIDA OFFICIAL CONFIRMS WWE DEEMED 'ESSENTIAL BUSINESS'
At a press conference today, Orange County (Florida) mayor Jerry Demings was asked how WWE is still able to run shows despite the state's stay-at-home order.
"I think initially there was a review that was done and they were not initially deemed an essential business. With some conversation with the governor's office regarding the governor's order, they were deemed an essential business. And so therefore, they were allowed to remain open," Demings said.
Demings said that -- because of HIPAA laws -- he doesn't know the specifics associated with the person in WWE who tested positive for COVID-19. “But that’s like a little family," Demings said. "A small family of professional athletes that wrestle. And if one of my family members tested positive in my house, that would be concerning to me. We would have to make some provisions in my house to make sure that the rest of us not get infected. So I would assume that -- from a business perspective -- the WWE is doing that type of analysis of its own family.”
The person in WWE who tested positive for COVID-19 is an on-air talent but not a member of the in-ring roster. Over the weekend, WWE issued a statement about the positive test: "A WWE employee has tested positive for COVID-19. We believe this matter is low risk to WWE talent and staff, as the individual and a roommate became symptomatic in the days following exposure to two people working in acute health care on the evening of March 26, after WWE’s TV production on a closed set was already complete. The employee had no contact with anyone from WWE since being exposed to those two individuals, is doing well, and made a complete recovery.”
WWE is resuming live television broadcasts from the Performance Center in Orlando, Florida starting with tonight's Raw.
