IMPACT WRESTLING Loses show on AT&T UVerse & DirectTV Drops HD Version Of the Show.

ATT UVerse has dropped Impact Wrestling home the Pursuit Channel as their existing deal to carry the channel ended last month.

Also, DirecTV has dropped the HD version of The Pursuit Network, so if you are DVRing Impact on DirecTV, you will need to reset your DVR for the standard definition version.  Impact losing the HD version of their TV on DirecTV is yet another negative connected to Pursuit.  Let's hope for their sake, they find a new home on TV sooner than later.

So much for that great TV deal for Impact, eh? LOL.

PAUL HEYMAN, ERIC BISCHOFF NAMED EXECUTIVE DIRECTORS OF RAW AND SMACKDOWN

WWE issued the following:

WWE® NAMES PAUL HEYMAN AND ERIC BISCHOFF EXECUTIVE DIRECTORS
Stamford, Conn., June 27, 2019  WWE (NYSE: WWE) today announced that it has named Paul Heyman as Executive Director of Monday Night Raw and Eric Bischoff as Executive Director of SmackDown Live, newly created positions reporting directly to WWE Chairman & CEO Vince McMahon.

In their executive roles, Heyman and Bischoff will oversee the creative development of WWE’s flagship programming and ensure integration across all platforms and lines of business. The creation of these roles further establishes WWE’s ability to continuously reinvent its global brand while providing two distinct creative processes for its flagship shows.
With more than 30 years of experience in the sports entertainment industry, Heyman served as President of ECW from 1993-2001, securing pay-per-view distribution for the company as well as a national cable television deal with TNN. After his time with ECW, Heyman joined WWE’s Creative team and is widely credited with helping launch the careers of many current and former WWE Superstars.

Bischoff is a former WCW President and New York Times bestselling author. During his WCW career, Bischoff oversaw the signing of some of the biggest names in sports entertainment and helped create and develop the NWO storyline. He was also instrumental in securing a television deal for WCW Monday Nitro on TNT and WCW Thunder on TBS. After WCW, Bischoff co-founded Bischoff-Hervey Entertainment, a production company that launched TV reality shows and mobile games.

The announcement today that Paul Heyman and Eric Bischoff have signed on with WWE to become Executive Directors of the Raw and Smackdown brands is a legitimate announcement, not a storyline situation.

WWE has been pursuing Heyman to come on officially in their corporate circles as far back as February,.  An offer was issued to Heyman to come on board full-time as a top member of the creative team around the same time Bruce Prichard was brought back as a Senior Vice President.  Heyman had been working on certain storylines and with certain talents, including Ronda Rousey, Brock Lesnar and others dating back far before then.  He's been in the inner circle when it comes to the creative process for some time without an official title.  He and WWE have been circling around this deal for a long time.

The Eric Bischoff deal came together within the last several weeks.  Bischoff has been working on pre-production of the planned Netflix Hulk Hogan biography film and had a slew of personal appearances booked.  Over the last week, he quietly began canceling those appearance dates, so that is likely when he came to terms with WWE.  We are told he will be working directly with FOX as WWE builds their relationship with Smackdown's new home.  To say this is a massive return to form for Bischoff is a grand understatement.  We are told that WWE approached him about the role.

We are told that they will be overseeing all aspects of their individual series, answering directly to Vince McMahon.  They are now the top of the pyramid, respectively, for Raw and Smackdown.   Heyman is expected to continue his role as Brock Lesnar's advocate.  There is no word yet whether Bischoff will appear on camera, but given how good of a performer he is, one would think it's just a matter of time.

Another Weak Crowd For This Week's WWE SmackDown (No Surprise Here Since They Suck So Bad)

WWE drew another weak crowd for last night's SmackDown episode from the Moda Center in Portland, Oregon.
As seen below, the arena was filled with empty seats and tarps were used to curtain off certain areas. RAW isn't drawing weekly sold out crowds these days, but SmackDown crowds have been down for some time now.
Below are a few photos from last night's SmackDown. It should be noted that the first photo was taken during the pre-show dark match, which saw Ali defeat Buddy Murphy, but the other photos were taken at various points during the tapings.

Mick Foley Talks Running Into Jon Moxley Recently, Why Today's WWE Product Is Not Working

WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley was a guest on Lilian Garcia's Chasing Glory Podcast this week, and during the discussion, Foley went in-depth about why he believed superstars in the Attitude Era found more success in the presentation of their characters compared to the stars of today. He thinks it's in-part due to the pressure put on current performers to consistently succeed at their promo work.
"I saw Jon Moxley recently at an event, and I didn't realize how constrained he felt by the format over there [in WWE]," Foley said. "This isn't an exercise in the whipping of WWE here, but I said to him, and I mentioned this before and it bears repeating: people look at the Attitude Era and they love it for a number of reasons. But very few people realize that we were allowed to try things and there wasn't any punishment for failing. Every great Austin 3:16 promo there's going to be 5 or 6 things that don't work. If you recall, The Rock never went to the 'Shut Up Juice', the 'Shut Up Juice' wasn't connecting, SmackDown Hotel was, and so guys were allowed to go out there and try things. I remember a couple of promos that failed miserably but I never got the feeling that just because they tanked that I wouldn't be able to get another shot at it.
"You know, this is something that I said during last year's 20 Years in Hell show: that if you're going to fail, fail spectacularly. Really, that match and a good part of my career were based on failures, and so I think that men and the women don't have that same freedom to fail. So guys are going out there playing not to lose instead of playing to win with their characters. I think you can specifically blame the 'This Is Your Life' segment, with me and The Rock, that went 14 minutes over for tighter structuring. I think that the ratings hurt in a sense."
Foley watched backstage as the shift to PG made the creative structure much more narrow behind the scenes of WWE. Things like blood, certain language, and the threat of someone's life being at stake were ruled unfit for WWE TV, so heels had to find new ways of showing an evil nature.
"Imagine trying to be a heel in today's environment where you can't be offensive," Foley pondered. "Obviously we had a little more freedom to use language. I think in a lot of ways the PG rating makes you more creative, which is a good thing. But when you are catering to families, you can actually see someone complaining if a heel was scary. So there's no blood, which is probably a good thing in most cases. But it is hard being a menacing figure when you are so constrained, so, the answer is that everyone has to have great moves. I probably couldn't have made it in today's WWE environment because I didn't have enough cool moves.
"Here's the one thing that I see missing: when they have these babyfaces, people have an emotional stake in these good guys, and then the monster heel would come in and you're like, 'Okay, they're not trying to win a match, they are fighting for their lives,'" Foley continued. "That is how money was drawn with these great feuds, where the goal wasn't about winning a match, so I don't know if I would have lasted in an environment where you have to cover guys after every move."
Instead of focusing on the brutal nature of the heel characters, the attention was directed to their incomparable abilities and attempts at being the best wrestler. Characters like Chris Jericho, CM Punk, and Daniel Bryan's recent heel persona are prime examples of this new wave of heels with exceptional in-ring prowess and a knack for vocalizing it.
"When your most dastardly character trait is that you are trying to be the best at something? It is hard to dislike someone who is yearning to be the best by putting a guy's shoulders down," Foley explained. "I think they are really constrained and I think it shows, and the moves are more spectacular but the fans have been conditioned that there is only one way to have a great match, and that is to have incredible moves and multiple false finishes. But when I was active, there wasn't a specific blueprint to have a great match where you would lose fans if you buried from it. I think it was more creative. We weren't as athletic and you saw fewer great matches on a weekly basis, but I also think you had far better moments that stuck out in people's minds."

Awesome Kong On Why She Worked AEW Double Or Nothing, Keeping Her Return A Secret

Awesome Kong recently spoke with Scott Fishman of TV Insider and talked about how she kept her ring return at AEW's Double Or Nothing pay-per-view a secret last month.
Kong said she was too nervous to train in anybody's ring for fear of tipping people off, and she even turned down indie bookings to remain under the radar. While Kong has appeared on Netflix's GLOW series, she admitted she was worried that people had forgotten about her.
"I was worried that people had forgotten about me because it had been forever and a day since I had appeared on TV as a wrestler in Kong's gear and her braids and everything," she said. "I was extremely worried about it."
Kong said the trepidation was still there just minutes before walking out in front of the live crowd, plus she got the "Baby Shark" song stuck in her head backstage. She revealed that a quick interaction with WWE Hall of Famer Diamond Dallas Page helped make the difference.
"I mean he squared me up shoulder-to-shoulder. He looked me dead in the eye with his piercing blue eyes and gave me this pep talk about positive thinking," Kong said. "How I should read his book, and how I am who I am, and I know who I am. He told me I was going to go out there and kill it. It was exactly what I needed. This was not even three or four minutes before I walked out there. I was like, 'Yes!' This is what I needed to summon Kong. She is finally here."
Kong revealed that she's still a free agent, but we might see more of her from time to time. She worked Double Or Nothing, in the Fatal 4 Way with Nyla Rose, Kylie Rae and winner Britt Baker, because she sees something special in AEW and wanted to be a part of history.
"I've always kind of been that rebel in wrestling. This promotion is kind of that exciting rebel in a way," Kong said. "This force that will not be denied. I think it was the perfect portal for me to re-enter the wrestling world."

This Week's WWE RAW Draws One Of The Lowest Crowds, Comparison To Recent SmackDown Tapings

There were reportedly 3,500 fans in attendance for last night's WWE RAW from the Angel of The Winds Arena in Everett, Washington, according to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio.
This would be one of the smallest RAW crowds in history. The attendance number is especially bad because this was a RAW coming out of the WWE Stomping Grounds pay-per-view, which also did low attendance.
Which goes to show you, if this isn't a sign that their product sucks ass, what else can? of curse WWE will deflect and dodge this and pretend like this never happened.. As usual.
It was noted that this RAW drew less than the February 5 SmackDown tapings from the same arena in Everett, but it was reported back in February that those tapings drew 3,000 fans.

Mat Memory- Heroes Of World Class - The Story Of The Von Erich's & The Rise & Fall Of World Class

ust like ECW, WCCW made wrestling history from a tiny building. The difference between the companies is that while ECW struggled to be number 3, at one time WCCW was the number 1 wrestling promotion based on TV ratings, attendance, and world tours. In Dallas, the Von Erich family was even more popular than the Dallas Cowboys. Due to their revolutionary telecasts, they forever changed the way that wrestling is presented on television. This DVD spends a great time explaining... what made WCCW so special, both inside the ring and outside of it. Unfortunately, the saga of WCCW is one of the saddest in wrestling history. The story of WCCW is directly tied to the story of the Von Erich family. At one time, David, Kevin, & Kerry Von Erich were the biggest stars in the business. The family encountered many tragedies that saw Kevin as the only remaining brother out of the six sons of Fritz Von Erich. The Von Erich's were not the only wrestlers to suffer untimely deaths. Three of the top stars in WCCW were murdered and none of their murderers ever spent a day in jail. The DVD ends with Kevin Von Erich touring the damaged Sportatorium in a scene that brings some closure to the sad ending of WCCW. While there is tremendous sadness in this story, it is also a celebration of a great time in wrestling history.

Low Attendance For WWE's Stomping Grounds PPV (Like That's A Real Shocker)

there was low attendance at the Tacoma Dome in Tacoma, Washington for last night's first-ever WWE Stomping Grounds pay-per-view. The arena had half of the seating curtained off to hide the empty seats, despite a decent line for walk-up tickets before the show, and a lot of free tickets given out on the day of the event.
DEFY Wrestling's Matt Farmer noted on Twitter that there were around 6,000 fans in attendance, which would be one of the smallest WWE pay-per-view crowds in a long time. Farmer also noted that there were "tons" of comped tickets, and a lot of 2 for 1 ticket deals were sold.
Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that the paid attendance for Stomping Groundswas around 4,000 - 4,500 fans. It was also noted that tickets were being given away at the mall earlier in the day. The Tacoma Dome can hold around 18,000 fans after production.

Chris Jericho On Why Seth Rollins Vs. Baron Corbin At Stomping Grounds Is What's Wrong With WWE Now

Current AEW contender Chris Jericho spoke about the current WWE product while previewing Sunday's Stomping Grounds pay-per-view on his Talk Is Jericho podcast. Jericho discussed the main event of Stomping Grounds featuring Seth Rollins vs. Baron Corbin, and mentioned how that is one example of what is wrong with current WWE programming.
"This match, to me, once again is one of the problems with WWE and maybe one of the reasons why tickets haven't sold well in Tacoma," Jericho said. "We just saw this match two weeks ago at Super [Show Down]. The classic thing is my neighbor is a good guy too, [that] doesn't mean [Corbin] should be headlining pay-per-views over and over again."
Jericho credited Corbin for his positive traits, however did admit to not seeing him as main event ready. Instead, Jericho believes a superstar like Samoa Joe defending his United States Championship is better suited for the main event prestige.
"There's heat, there's go-away heat, there's this guy isn't ready heat," Jericho explained. "Corbin [is a] solid worker, solid personality, great guy. I don't think he's ready for the main event especially when you got Samoa Joe four or five matches down working for the United States Championship. Flip-flop it. Let Corbin work his way up through the ranks and let a guy who is a legit proven headliner who has drawn money. I know you're not suppose to say TNA in WWE but let's be honest, the biggest pay-per-view in TNA history was Kurt Angle vs. Samoa Joe. Joe can walk the walk and talk the talk. I think Corbin is still learning. I think the difference in this one is that there's a special guest referee that's going to be chosen by Corbin."
However Jericho or the WWE Universe views Corbin, he is slated to challenge Seth Rollins for the WWE Universal Championship this Sunday at WWE's inaugural pay-per-view Stomping Grounds. Adding to the stakes, the match is set to feature a special guest referee chosen by challenger Corbin. For weeks now,WWE has teased the special guest referee announcement, but has yet to pen an official name.
