Poughkeepsie Journal Story On The Rebirth of MLW.

WWE'S Ahem... "Hidden Gems" Being Added This Week Have Already been On YouTube, DDUUHH!!

Once again I get to bust the WWE on their claims that their 'hidden gems' being added this week, aren't as 'hidden' as they claim, proof? Right here for you and you can thank me again for being the ONLY, wrestling columnist to keep doing this on a regular basis. Meltzer won't ever have the balls to do this, Dave Scherer? nope, Wade Keller? NNAAA, Mike Johnson (PWInsider)? Forget it, no balls either and Wrestlinginc is too scared to cover this as well even if i give them the story, they'll bitch up on it. So always leave it to me to do what those other 'writers' won't have the balls to do. :)

So here are the ones that are easy to find, right on Youtube.

Lou Thesz vs. Wild Bill Longson (Texas Rasslin’, 6/17/52)

Has been on youtube since 2011, DDUUHH!!! Hidden Gem? Hidden gem my ass, LOL!

Sting Reveals Vince McMahon's Reaction To Him Signing With TNA

Recently on The Apter Chat, legendary pro wrestling personality Bill Apter and host Josh Shernoff spoke with WWE Hall Of Famer Sting. Among many other things, Sting talked about why it took him so long to have a WWE run, what WWE Chairman Vince McMahon told Sting about signing with Impact Wrestling, and how long Sting initially planned on staying with Impact Wrestling, then known as TNA Wrestling.
According to Sting, he had a few conversations with McMahon over the years about going to WWE and 'Stinger' even came close to leaving WCW a couple of times.
"I had probably had three… on three separate occasions, I had a conversation with Vince [McMahon] and I was close on a couple of those occasions to leaving [WCW]." Sting recalled, "two reasons why I never did, number one, WCW always ended up giving me what I asked for as far as… it wasn't just financial - it was how much I work - I wanted to have it be in black and white, contractually, 'I want to work X number of days and blah, blah, blah, only a certain number of house shows that I want to do throughout the year,' so they gave me what I wanted."
The man called Sting divulged that the second reason he had for never leaving WCW for WWE was that he always felt that McMahon wanted to sign Sting away from WCW to undermine WCW more than anything else. Interestingly, Sting noted that WWE's risqué programming would not have stopped him from making a run up north.
"And as far as Vince, Vince and I would always talk and it was great. And then, the attorneys would talk and things would kind of change, but I always thought in the earlier days, I thought that Vince wanted me more to undermine WCW than he did want me as a talent." Sting continued, "well, in the later years, you could that, yes. I mean, that was definitely a part of it as well, but that wouldn't have stopped me from going up there, honestly. I mean, I'm a pro wrestlers. This is what I do. And I'm not going to… I mean, I always thought everyone knows who I am. They know what I stand for. They know what I believe. And if I go up there and they ask me to do something that's maybe against my conscience and I just can't do it, then, I just won't do it. And if it's 'goodbye' at that point, I was ready to say, 'goodbye'. I mean, that's all there is to it."
Apparently, when Sting informed McMahon that the former was signing with Impact Wrestling, 'The Genetic Jackhammer' suggested that going there would have ruined Sting's legacy.
"I ended up going to TNA and I'll never forget having that conversation with Vince." Sting remembered, "he's on the phone with me and he says, 'you know, Sting,' he said, 'I find this hard to believe. The legacy that you leave behind and the thought of you going to TNA is just, blah.' That's exactly what he said, 'blah!' And so then you fast forward to me coming back to do WrestleMania, I sent out a text to Vince and Triple H, and I simply said, 'have you guys turned the page on Sting yet?' because I honestly didn't know. Did they turn the page? Are they done or would they consider a run up there?"
Notably, Sting shared that he planned on being with Impact for only one or two years and that he was there to help attract other stars.
"Yeah, I thought, 'let's try TNA.' And, again, they kind of gave me what I wanted. Obviously, it wasn't all about money with TNA, but the schedule though that I ended up having, that I could attain and they were very agreeable. And so, we did that and the rest is history. I planned on doing it for a year maybe or a couple of years. But they brought me in in hopes that other bigger name guys might want to come in and I thought that worked because, quite frankly, quite a few of them ended up coming in. Kurt Angle was the first. Mick Foley was there. [Scott] Hall and [Kevin] Nash, they were there. Scotty Steiner was there. Hulk Hogan was there." Sting professed, "a lot of guys ended up coming in and it was a lot of fun. It really was."

WXW Announced Major Changes To The Company, Shotgun TV Show

wXw just announced major changes in the company. Co-owner and CEO Christian Jakobi is taking a leave of absence due to occupational burnout. He has been running the promotion and the training school and was working ridiculous hours, as well as running and booking the events and handling administrative duties. He was also an on-air talent and worked in character development and promo classes at the school. The weekly Shotgun television show that was on their streaming service has been canceled because it wasn't getting the numbers they were hoping for. Instead, they will run feature events to advance storylines and deliver higher caliber matches. The final episode of Shotgun will be on Wednesday. They will tape a show called Shotgun XXL on Sunday for airing on 10/19. They will tape on 10/27 and 11/24 in Cologne and 12/16 in Bielefeld. Jakobi's weekly Q&A show on YouTube is also going on hiatus. They will also change their touring schedule and run shorter tours putting an emphasis on quality rather than quantity. They still expect to run 65 to 80 shows in 2019. They are also no longer handling their own ticket sales but will work with EventBrite and Eventim. Jakobi worked as Ilja Dragunov's on-screen manager on Progress in the build for the Ilja Dragunov vs. Pete Dunne match. It's also clear that WWE and wXw now have a working agreement similar to Evolve, Progress and ICW. Robbie Brookside, a WWE coach, was at the wXw school last week along with SVP of Talent Development Canyon Ceman. They were scouting talent for a November tryout camp.

NWA Can Do THIS, For Their National Title But Are "Creatively Challenged" With Womens Title, HHMM

They can't come up with a creative way to properly resurrect the Womens championship so, what.. They just said "fuck it, just have her defend it and hope nobody notices that it HASN'T been defended in months"?  Pretty weak copout and shows that they are, creatively challenged in some ways there at the NWA. If you can make the time to do something properly with the national title? Why not with the Womens championship as well?
the NWA will resurrect the National title at their 10/21 70th Anniversary event in Nashville, TN at the TNA Asylum.Today, the promotion announced the crowning of the new champion will consist of two stages.   Stage One will consist of four-way elimination matches. In Stage Two, the winners of those two matches will then face off to crown the first champion of the new era.
Announced thus far for the National Championship:
*Colt Cabana.
*Scorpio Sky.
*Jay Bradley.
*Mike Parrow.
*Sam Shaw.
*Ricky Starks.

Why Can't You Have Both? The Undertaker Explains Why Characters Are More Important Than Moves In Pro Wrestling

Every time some wrestler says Moves are important than Characters or like here with the Undertaker 'claiming', Characters are more important than moves, I keep asking the same question. Why can't there be both? It's been done before. need a list? Dean Malenko, Too Cold Scorpio, Chris Benoit, Tazz, Bruiser Brody, Billy Robinson, Nick Bockwinkel, Need I go on? nnaa I didn't think so, my point is proven and proven correct. Though every time I ask "Why can't we have both"? It's funny how nobody seems to have an answer for that.

The Undertaker will be making his first non-WrestleMania wrestling appearance this Sunday at Super Show-Down since the Greatest Royal Rumble this past April, and only his second televised non-WrestleMania match since competing in the 2017 Royal Rumble nearly two years ago. At 53, Undertaker still relies on being one of the most popular characters in WWE history to continue to awe the fans in attendance.
Recently, Undertaker was a part of a series from Pastor Ed Young of Fellowship Church called Wrastlin, which documents the strong connections between wrestling and the Bible. Undertaker was a guest, and did a rare, out-of-character interview about the pro wrestling business.
Having nearly 30 years of experience from the WWE regarding his character being able to transcend eras, Undertaker commented on how important this element is in the success of a competitor.
"Wrestling and sports entertainment is not about the moves, it really isn't," said Undertaker (h/t Sky Sports). "It's about being able to evoke emotion in one facet or another. You either have to make people love you or you have to make them hate you, it doesn't really matter either way. If you can't bring that emotion out of your audience then you're not going to have them for long."
Undertaker added on how many matches in this era of wrestling cause fans to focus more on the moves than putting the wrestlers over.
"What happens with these young guys is they're so athletic and so gifted, they'll do some crazy double backflip off the top rope and land on somebody on the floor and then that's what the audience takes away from it, that this guy does crazy stuff," said Undertaker. "But you can only see that so many times before you need something new, and then the person has to up that. They have to keep upping the ante and by doing that you increase your potential for injuries."
Undertaker highlighted characters such as The Rock, Ric Flair, and John Cena being people who had the ability of making people love them or hate them. Although wrestling moves should be used to further tell the story, it ultimately "boils down to the character and being able to bring either love or hate out of your crowd."

DOUG WILLIAMS ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT

Former TNA X-Division Champion Douglas Williams, 46 years old, announced his retirement yesterday after losing a career bout at a PROGRESS Wrestling event:
Williams originally broke into the business as Doug the Anarchist, trained by the late Andre Baker at Hammerlock Wrestling in Great Britain and was a tremendously talented performer when it came to ring psychology and in-ring finesse.  Williams first popularized the rolling suplex that Chad Gable now utilizes in WWE.  He was also a regular for Pro Wrestling NOAH, where he held the GHC Tag Team Championship with 2 Cold Scorpio.
Williams first came to the United States working for New England Championship Wrestling and was a top flight performer in the early era of Ring of Honor, including competing in the 60 minute four way bout to crown the first ROH Champion.
Williams had a long run with TNA (now Impact) Wrestling, leading the British Invasion group with runs as the company's X-Division and TV Champion.  With the revolving door inside Impact management at the time, his pushes were haphazard, although his in-ring work was second to none.  He eventually landed in Ohio Valley Wrestling as a trainer during the time Impact had a working relationship with the promotion.  Impact opted to release Williams in 2013 as part of cost cutting measures.Williams returned home to Great Britain, where he wrestled for a number of promotions as part of the current resurgence of the business in that part of the world.

Former ROH Wrestler Truth Martini Says That He's Done Wrestling

(I always liked this guy as a manager, He was a great example that managers weren't a lost art in Pro Wrestling).
Truth Martini broke through in the indie scene in the late 1990s as he wrestled for several promotions in the Detroit area. After stints with Juggalo Championship Wrestling and Independent Wrestling Revolution, he made it to Ring of Honor in 2009.By then, Martini was more of a manager than a wrestler and it appears he's done as an in-ring competitor. He talked about moving onto the next chapter of his life with Colt Cabana on The Art of Wrestling podcast."You kinda can't argue with time, you know? Things run its course. It's not like I don't like professional wrestling," Martini stated. "It's kinda like when you're young-when you're done with your tricycle, it's not like you hate your tricycle. Tricycles are awesome! It just ran its course and that's pretty much how I felt."Martini may be done as a wrestler, but he's far from done with wrestling. He's settled down with his family and now operates his own wrestling school in Michigan named after the House of Truth (HOT)."So, I went ahead and got married and have a lovely wife and I've got a three-and-a-half month baby girl," said Martini. "Her name's Miriam and she's a blessing from God."I'm done performing right now, but I'm still at the school Monday-Thursday. HOTWrestlingSchool.com  for anybody still interested."

Former WWE Wrestler Reveals Deflating Words From Arn Anderson Before WWE-Branded ECW PPV

Former WWE star Mike Knox was a recent guest on the Pancakes and Powerslams Show, and gave a career perspective of his time in ECW, WWE, and Impact Wrestling.
December to Dismember, arguably the worst pay-per-view in WWE history, occurred on December 3, 2006. It was the lowest buyrate ever, prior to the WWE Network, and was negatively viewed widely by both the wrestlers and fans alike.
Prior to the pay-per-view, Knox stated that there was originally a major angle that was supposed to occur, but unfortunately was nixed.
"We were trying to get ECW over and we were trying to convince the original ECW fans that this was gonna be kinda like that," said Knox. "That was what we were trying to do. So I went up there and I wrestled Sandman, let him beat me all over the place, slinging kendo sticks and taking half of my ear off, just doing all of that. Kelly [Kelly] was there and we tried not to put her in it too much because she didn't really know. So, I did something like that, and we did something with Balls Mahoney after that and they started to turn it to where she was starting to flirt with the other boys.
"So she'd flirt with Balls a little bit, and then all of a sudden she started flirting with CM Punk and I'd be like, 'hey, what the heck are you doing?' She didn't really talk a lot back then, but it was supposed to pressure finally a good run with me and CM Punk, instead of me with like Sabu or Balls or Sandman, the original guys. So it was supposed to be me and CM Punk and they were supposed to really rev that up like the two young ECW guys getting to go at it over this beautiful girl."
After the nixed plan to feud Knox with Punk, a mixed tag team match between Kevin Thorn and Ariel against Knox and Kelly Kelly was placed in the semi-main event slot at December to Dismember, although Knox revealed that it was only for a specific purpose.
"We were was sitting there and I was taking over the match, and Arn [Anderson] came up and was like, 'listen, it doesn't matter what you guys do. Nobody's gonna be watching you. You gotta make sure the girls know what they need to do, and it really doesn't matter what you guys do out there, nobody is even gonna remember it.'
"So I was like, oh geez, thanks Arn. Like, one of my childhood heroes," Knox said. "So I looked at Kevin [Thorn], he's looking at me, and I'm like, dude, let's show these guys. Let's get in there and really beat the crap out of each other. We were like, let's bring it. So, even if nobody else remembers it, we will. So we went out there and we just beat the living crap out of each other."
The end goal of the match was for Knox to turn on Kelly and walk away. The next night, he came out dressed up and faked an apology to Kelly, hitting her with the roses and his finisher. Knox stated that this kind of split up "would not go over now at all" due to the current WWE restrictions.

Top ROH Star Ends His Run In The Company.

Former ROH TV Champion Punishment Martinez, who lost the title tonight during a TV taping in Las Vegas, is officially finished with Ring of Honor, Martinez was saying his goodbyes to the locker room at tonight's taping, which was his final scheduled date with the company.  Martinez's contract expired last month, just prior to the "All In" PPV, multiple sources have confirmed.  Martinez opted not to sign a new deal as he wanted to be contractually free going forward.  Obviously, someone with his size and skill would make a smart, logical addition to pretty much any company out there.
WWE sources there has been interest in Martinez for the NXT brand for some time, so that appears to be his most likely destination.  Martinez broke into the business training with the Monster Factory in New Jersey and became a regular with ROH after a strong performance in the 2016 Top Prospect Tournament, which was won by Lio Rush.  He was signed to a contract in July 2016.  During his run with the company, Martinez was aligned with Kevin Sullivan and BJ Whitmer, won the 2017 Survival of the Fittest and toured with New Japan via ROH's working relationship with that company.
The next move for Martinez should prove to be very interesting as he has a lot of potential and was someone ROH had obviously invested a lot into over the last several years.

Eric Bischoff Reveals Big Planned Changes For WCW Had He Purchased The Company

By 1999 WCW was a sinking ship as Monday Night Raw beat Nitro in ratings every week of the year. Eric Bischoff felt the wrath of his company failing as he was removed from his president role while Vince Russo took over as head of creative.
In late 2000 Bischoff and a group of partners made one last-ditch effort to save WCW as they offered to purchase the company. A Turner executive accepted the deal and Bischoff was due to become WCW's owner, but another Turner executive then cancelled all WCW programming from its network. With no network to broadcast on, WCW had little value to Bischoff and the deal never went through.
On his podcast, Bischoff discussed some of the changes that would have occurred had the deal went through and he purchased WCW.
"Tony Schiavone," Bischoff said about his first big change. "I have always liked and respected Tony. There were never any thoughts of firing Tony, but we did want-we knew that we needed to hit the refresh button in every way possible. We knew that we wanted to rebrand WCW and get as far away as how people had perceived WCW to be as possible as far as we could, which included the announcers. That would have included the look of the show and the location of the show and where we were going to produce the show. It would have included a lot of things including the announce team. It was going to be Joey Styles and Don Callis."
Fans criticized WCW for their stale programming during their final months as the team of Vince Russo and Ed Ferrara failed to connect with the audience. But despite creative being a problem, that wasn't the first thing on Bischoff's docket were he to take over.
"We didn't really focus on future creative. We talked about what talent we did keep and wanted to keep but there was so much work to do on rebranding, repositioning the company that creative was really the last thing we needed to think about," Bischoff said.
"The intention really when we were going to acquire the company was going to shut it down for a period of 3-6 months thinking that absence makes the heart grow fonder. We needed to build some anticipation. We had to make people anxious to see what the new, rebranded WCW was going to look like. You couldn't do that by taking it off of television for a couple of weeks and then coming back. You had to be gone a long enough period of time to really build up anticipation and to market it properly.
"We were focused more on where we wanted to produce the show. How could we help reduce the cost of producing the show? What talent were we able to afford? Who did we want to keep? Rebuilding relationships with sponsors. That was where I really was focused on, not on what we were going to do with a certain talent."
In the span of a few weeks in 2001, Bischoff agreed to purchase WCW, Turner dropped all WCW programming, Bischoff backed out of his offer to purchase the promotion and, finally, WWE purchased WCW.

He got punked, and embarrassed so bad that he ran and his behind blocking someone because the truth of THIS STORY.. https://billsbrandnewblog.blogspot.com/2018/09/explaining-my-beef-with-dave-scherer-at.html slapped Scherer so bad he knew he had no reply to it. He got checked and bitched up by hiding behind blocking someone because he knew his ass got kicked. Scherer tries to dish it out but when he gets smacked back with stuff he can't fight back against, he bitches up, proving he tries to dish it out but can't take it when someone one ups him in public, if you will. The least Scherer 'could've' done was address me personally but of course that would mean he has balls, this proves he has no balls.

Eric Bischoff Talks Ultimate Warrior's WCW Debut Setting The Stage For "Really Bad" Program

By late 1998 WCW's stranglehold in the Monday Night Wars began to wain. As a result, Eric Bischoff did what had initially worked to get WCW atop the ratings and that is recycle old WWEstars.
One of those was The Ultimate Warrior who dropped "ultimate" when he joined WCW. While Warrior provided a momentary bump in ratings for Nitro, his first segment on the show is often ridiculed today.
Bischoff relived Warrior's WCW debut on his podcast, 83 Weeks with Eric Bischoff.
"There was a lot of anticipation," Bischoff said about Warrior's 20 minute promo getting a high rating. "Look, Warrior had a lot of equity built up with the WWE audience. He was a known commodity. Nobody would have ever expected-with all of the heat between him and Hulk Hogan-nobody would have expected him there. There was this built-in, natural, promotional effort without having to expand any promotional effort on our part. It was automatic. The wrestling audience wanted to see what the hell is going to happen when these two come together because there was so much natural heat and story in the WWF."
Warrior's appearance was exciting because it was so unexpected, but his opening promo was generally panned by critics. He rambled on for over 20 minutes, both confusing the fans as well as Bischoff and Hogan who were in the ring and targets of his promo. Bischoff says it didn't take long to realize that bringing Warrior in was a mistake.
"On his first Nitro appearance was when I knew I was in trouble," Bischoff stated. "Everything else that happened after that was a decree of how bad it was going to be ultimately. When he first showed up and we walked through it and blocked it, everybody had a good idea of what the first promo was going to be. We knew that we had 8-10 minutes. Again, we had flexibility. We worked for the television company that owned us so there was a little room for margin of error when you are on live. But that first promo going back to his first appearance on Nitro, it was scheduled to only be 8-10 minutes, and somewhere along the 20-22 minute mark when Hulk Hogan and I were staring at each other in the middle of the ring and asking what the f**k he is talking about.
"We were completely lost, and so was the audience, and director, Craig Leathers is screaming in my ears, we were going so far over that even the margin for error that we had built in that the first promo that Warrior had shot went beyond 20 minutes. For a promo, I don't care who it is, that is a long promo. Everything that happened after that was confirmation that it was going to be really bad."
Warrior would only have three matches in WCW with the final one coming at Halloween Havoc in 1998. Nitro would defeat Raw in ratings the following Monday night, but that would be their last victory in the Monday Night Wars. Warrior would depart WCW two weeks later and Raw would defeat Nitro every Monday night until WCW was purchased by WWE in March 2001.
