FORMER WWF & ECW STAR SALVATORE BELLOMO PASSES AWAY

Salvatore Bellomo, who had a long international career, but might be best remembered in his undercard role for WWF or his run as an early era babyface for ECW, passed away late last night following a long battle with cancer.  Bellomo was 67 years old at the time of his passing.

Although billed from Sicily, Italy, Bellomo was actually born in Belgium, where he broke into the business working carnival events, trained by a wrestler identified as Nino.   In that era, there would be attractions where a promoter would challenge someone to beat their champion wrestler.  The idea would be to get fans to put up money for the chance and then have the wrestler beat them.  To get over the idea that the wrestler was on the “ropes” and was an easy target, in order to entice potential challengers to part with their money, there would be a ringer in the crowd to challenge and have what amounted to a worked fight to get over the idea the wrestler was getting tired.  Bellomo would often play that role, of the “challenger” coming out of the crowd who “almost” beat the champion, setting the stage for the next mark to be fleeced.

Bellomo worked the carnival circuit as the fair traveled across Europe through Germany, Austria, France, England and other countries before making his way to the United States in the 1970s.  Although best remembered in an enhancement role in the WWF in the 1980s, Bellomo worked in a number of different territories before that, including Los Angeles as Tino Bellomo and a nice run in Canada.  He also worked for a bit for EMLL in Mexico and in Japan for IWE

Sal Bellomo debuted for the WWF in 1982.   It was Peter Maivia, who Bellomo has always identified as his hero and mentor, who was Bellomo’s connection to get into the WWF, suggesting Bellomo sending the promotion photos of himself as they were on the lookout for a new Italian star after Bruno Sammartino.   Bellomo was brought in as the babyface “Italian,” but ended up being cast in the role of undercard hero, beating lower card villains and occasionally getting a win over mid-card talents, but was most likely going to be putting over heels who were getting larger pushes.  His highest profile appearances included wrestling Bob Backlund in the Philadelphia Spectrum and being a guest on one of the early editions of Piper’s Pit, where Piper mocked him by asking Bellomo why he was even there, since Piper hadn’t ordered a pizza.

Bellomo returned to Europe, where he wrestled for years to come for Otto Wanz’s Catch Wrestling Association.  The biggest promotion in Europe, CWA would operate out of Austria but tour different companies, often running the same building nightly for long stretches of time.  Wrestlers loved it because they would have regular work without the daily grind of having to travel hours to shows every night.    The promotion would run long tournaments, such as the Catch Cup, building to a big final event.  During that period, Bellomo worked with a number of European stars of that era, including Dave Taylor, Tony St. Clair, Steve Wright, Rambo, Dave Finley and even names touring Europe such as Owen Hart, Rip Rogers and Derrick Dukes.

While it appeared to the average viewer that Bellomo quietly had disappeared from the business after his WWF run in the 1980s, he was living in Pennsylvania.  When he learned of a local promotion running in Philadelphia, ECW, he contacted Tod Gordon to ask about coming in.  Gordon, a lifelong wrestling fan, was aware of who Bellomo was and thought having someone local with some name recognition to fans could only help his fledgling independent promotion.  Imagine Gordon’s surprise when the Bellomo who arrived wasn’t the clean-cut babyface Bellomo of WWF fame but a longer haired, bearded Wildman who looked more like Pampiro Firpo than Bob Backlund!

Bellomo became a regular for Eastern Championship Wrestling and put over Jimmy Snuka in a tournament final with Snuka becoming the first-ever ECW Champion.  Bellomo had won a Battle Royal earlier in the show to set up the match.  He lost a Loser Leaves Town match to Tony Stetson to set up a return to the CWA in Europe, before returning.  Bellomo would work for ECW off and on through 1996, initially as a heel but eventually turning babyface after a promo where he proclaimed that he wanted to be a hero to the kids watching.

While ECW later became known for bloody violence, Bellomo was a loveable fixture on the undercard, feuding with The Rockin’ Rebel.  The storyline was that Rebel had injured him, leading to ECW asking fans to send letters of support to Bellomo.  When he returned, Bellomo began tossing stuffed animals out to the crowd, with the idea that kids had sent them to him while he was in the hospital to feel better.

Bellomo would appear on ECW TV regularly when it aired on Sportschannel Philadelphia, even teaming with The Sandman to compete in a tournament to crown the ECW Tag Team titles, eventually losing in the finals to Eddie Gilbert and The Dark Patriot.  He feuded with Sir Richard Michaels, leading to a strap match at Ultra Clash ’93.  Rebel, who had been suspended in storyline for his attack on Bellomo (imagine how this reads now given the level of atrocities later commited in ECW!) returned to attack Bellomo after, continuing their feud.

When Paul Heyman took over as ECW booker, the storylines changes as he focused more on younger, new talents.  Bellomo remained but was used more in a veteran support role where he would work undercards, putting over heels Heyman was pushing.  Bellomo lost to Mr. Hughes at the groundbreaking “Night the Line Was Crossed” event in February 1995.  This was truly the show that put ECW on the map and set it on its course to become something special.  Bellomo would not receive another sustained push but would pop up from time to time working undercard bouts before finishing up in 1996, where he beat JT Smith in his final match in Plymouth Meeting, PA.

After ECW, Bellomo continued to wrestle locally in Pennsylvania, including regular appearances for WXW out of Allentown, run by Afa the Wild Samoan.  Bellomo would work against and team with younger talents, even getting a WXW Tag Team title run with The Mad Russian.    He would also work for Tommy Dee in New York City as well:

Bellomo moved back to Europe in the early 2000s, where he opened a wrestling school in Belgium that at one point, had over 50 students at the same time.  He worked for a number of promotions across Europe, appearing mostly in Belgium and The Netherlands.  He wrestled as late as last year and was a veteran fixture for professional wrestling in those countries.

KM Of Impact Wrestling Gets Checked On Twitter, Then Blocks (Showing He's A Hypocrite)

"Big Bad" KM who works for Impact Wrestling Thought he was all that and then some when he poked fun at a fan who 'blocked' him on Twitter.

BUT... What happens when two people call him out on being, as they put it, a "Twitter Tough Guy"? WWWEELL, ol big bad keyboard warrior himself KM, did THE VERY SAME THING he slammed someone else for. He slammed someone for blocking him but after HE gets called out, he makes a weak ass comeback, and THEN.. BLOCKS THEM! Which shows what a fucking jackass KM is. Doing the very same thing he slammed someone else for when they did it to him. Yes, hypocrisy and irony are in plain view here. Here's the proof.

If you're going to insult someone for blocking you, how is it you can justify yourself when you go and do the very same thing you slammed others for when they did it to you? It just makes you look like a bigger moron. If you're going to make fun of someone for blocking you, then don't act like a bitch and block someone else after they put your weak ass in check on that subject. Because you just made yourself look like a complete idiot for doing the very same thing you piked fun at someone else over.

I guess, when KM got his ass handed to him by two others, he had no real defense other than shoot a weak ass come back and then hide behind a block himself. So in the end KM made himself look like a bigger idiot for doing the very same thing. What a dumb ass.

David McLane On If There Will Be Any Crossover With WOW And Former GLOW Stars

After an 18 year absence, Women of Wrestling (WOW) finally came back to television courtesy of AXS TV. WOW debuted on AXS last month to mark the promotion's first appearance on network television since 2001.
The mastermind behind all of this is WOW founder David McLane. Many issues led to WOW being taken off TV back then and being dormant for over a decade, but McLane vows to not let those same mistakes happen as he explained on Women's Wrestling Weekly.
"For one thing, it will still be around," McLane said of what will be different this time. "Those other renditions - I had business partners that never had the same vision that I did and subsequently they didn't last very long. Especially the second one, it was a rendition right out of GLOW, so it was like taking GLOW. When I left GLOW, as Little Egypt will tell you, 28 out of 32 women left with me."
After WOW was taken off TV in 2001, McLane had several attempts to relaunch the show over the next decade. They never amounted to anything until WOW original shows made their return to a Las Vegas ABC affiliate in 2011.
"So that said, that was just an under-financed and unorganized scramble to just go out on the road and see what we can do," stated McLane. "This is the ultimate dream, this is the ultimate vision that I've had for 30 some years. This is the presentation of women's wrestling that I will be most proud of because this combines everything that was great about GLOW with the athleticism and the presentation of the athletes that I've always dreamed women's wrestling would become.
In addition to founding WOW, McLane also founded Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling aka GLOW which, in a way, was WOW's predecessor as a women's wrestling promotion. GLOW relied more on the "entertainment" part of sports entertainment and often featured many comedic skits and storylines.
WOW treats itself as a legitimate promotion, and because of that, McLane doesn't foresee much crossover between WOW and the former stars of GLOW.
"We had many of the WOW wrestlers at one of the live events in Los Angeles and paid homage to them [GLOW wrestlers]," said McLane. "And we even had Jacqueline Stallion at the live events and she will be on the TV taping, thanking her for supporting women's wrestling for so long.
"But in terms of in the ring, no. The athletic ability of the wrestlers today is so superior to anything that was even five years ago, more or less 20 or 30 years ago. WOW is the ultimate competition in women's wrestling and when you see each of the competitors you'll know why. This isn't a comedy event, this is real women's wrestling."

ALL ELITE WRESTLING PRESS RELEASE ON AAA RELATIONSHIP, DOUBLE OR NOTHING

All Elite Wrestling issued the following:
All ELITE WRESTLING ANNOUNCES PARTNERSHIP WITH RENOWNED MEXICAN WRESTLING PROMOTION “LUCHA LIBRE AAA”
— Fans Can Look Forward to Cross-Promotions and Iconic Match-ups –
LAS VEGAS (Feb. 8, 2019) – All Elite Wrestling continued to shift and reinvent the wrestling landscape with last night’s DOUBLE OR  NOTHING ticket on-sale announcement party, which was jam-packed with new signing announcements and debuts, special appearances, and intense showdowns. A highlight among highlights was Cody’s announcement that AEW is entering into a partnership with Lucha Libre AAA, one of Mexico’s most famed Wrestling Promotions. Known for its high-flying masked wrestlers, Lucha Libra AAA promotes numerous signature events and tournaments each year, most notably the summertime “Triplemania.”
In the coming year, fans can look forward to talent trading between All Elite Wrestling and Lucha Libre AAA featuring exciting match-ups with top talent from both Promotions.

“AAA’s mission of showcasing the best Lucha Libre with an emphasis on modern stars stands right up next to us in our efforts to provide the best sports-centric pro wrestling show,” said Cody, AEW Executive Vice President.

“The first thing is we want to congratulate Tony, Cody, Kenny and The Young Bucks for this great initiative and for this great company All Elite Wrestling,” said Dorian Roldan, General Manager of Lucha Libre AAA. “I know that you are going to change the world of wrestling. AAA has never been about what’s conventional or predictable, just like our fans who are always about wanting something above and beyond from their wrestling and taking their experiences to the limit. It would take a concept as bold as AEW to earn our attention and respect, and that’s what has happened. AEW is what fans want and wrestling needs. We’re in with AEW, and we’re going to shake things up with exchanges of talent and lots of surprises.”

Following the partnership announcement at the DOUBLE OR NOTHING party, AAA stars Pentagon and Fenix, The Lucha Brothers, appeared and attacked The Young Bucks, and Penta injured Matt Jackson with his dangerous Package Piledriver finishing move on the stage. In addition to the clash between these top tag teams, Kenny Omega debuted at the party as the newest member of the AEW roster and an Executive Vice President, only to be interrupted by a hostile Chris Jericho, leading to a wild pull-apart brawl. After the rivals were separated by security, the coaching staff and other wrestlers, Omega returned to conclude the party by wishing the fans his signature “goodbye and good night.”

AEW also announced that fans can register at AllEliteWrestling.com up until Sunday, Feb. 10 at 7pm PST to be eligible for a pre-sale opportunity for tickets to the DOUBLE OR NOTHING event, taking place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on May 25. Pre-sale will begin on Monday, Feb. 11 at 12pm PST, and tickets will go on sale to the general public starting on Wednesday, Feb. 13 at 9am PST via AXS.com.

The Undertaker Charging Big Bucks For Non-WWE Appearances (Get A Load Of THIS Shit)

Only a fucking moron would pay that amount for ONE person, I don't give a fuck WHO, it is. If you're an indy promoter you can't just toss that kind of money around and 'hope' you get it back in some way with his appearance. Fucking ridiculous.
The Undertaker is pulling in big money for the non-WWE bookings he recently started taking.
The Dead Man is charging $25,000 per hour for appearances within the United States, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter and one person who has attempted to book him. Taker won't be accepting regular bookings until the summer.
As noted, Taker removed WWE references from social media this week and replaced them with an e-mail link for business opportunities & bookings. His three-night UK tour with Inside The Ropes set for this spring has been sold out and he has a UK convention appearance scheduled for that same week.
Taker is still not scheduled to work a top match at WrestleMania 35, according to the Observer. It was also noted that as of this week, Taker is not planning on working the next Saudi Arabia WWE event, which is expected for May. The Observer noted that if Taker was going to wrestle, the Saudi show would be the most likely date for him because it's the biggest payday of the year. WrestleMania would be the next most likely date.

HISTORIC RICHMOND COLISEUM SHUTTERED, LIKELY TO BE TORN DOWN

WRIC-TV is reporting that The Richmond Coliseum in Virginia has been shuttered as there are currently no plans for future events in the venue.  There has been a pitch to demolish the venue and replace it with a larger arena as part of a $1.4 billion redevelopment plan, but that has not gone yet been approved.

The venue, which opened in 1971, has been a regular home for professional wrestling, last hosting a WWE Raw taping in May 2018.  The Coliseum hosted several WWE PPVs, including In Your House: A Cold Day in Hell (headlined by The Undertaker vs. Steve Austin), Armageddon 2006 (Batista & John Cena vs. Dave Finley & Booker T) and Backlash 2016 (AJ Styles vs. Dean Ambrose, which saw Styles win the WWE title).

Prior to WWE's national expansion, however, Friday nights in Richmond meant the NWA, specifically Jim Crockett Promotions, was in town. Ric Flair captured his first United States Championship in the Coliseum, defeating Bobo Brazil on July 29, 1977 in the Coliseum. Wahoo McDaniel later defeated Sgt. Slaughter for the same title in 1982 in the Coliseum. The venue also hosted Gene and Ole Anderson defeating Paul Jones and the Masked Superstar for the NWA World Tag Team Championship in May 1981 while The Briscoes defeated Ricky Steamboat and Jay Youngblood in the venue in October 1983.

The Coliseum has not been used since a Harlem Globetrotters game in December 2018 and has no future events scheduled.

TWO LAWSUITS FILED OVER LUCHA UNDERGROUND CONTRACT ISSUES

Two lawsuits have been filed regarding Lucha Underground's contracts.
Pro Wrestling Sheet reported that El Hijo del Fantasma, who goes by the name King Cuerno on Lucha Underground, filed a lawsuit in California against the El Rey Network and Baba-G Productions, the production company behind LU. In the lawsuit, Fantasma is claiming that both El Rey and Baba-G have illegally restricted him and other wrestlers from “engaging in their lawful profession”.
Documents obtained by Pro Wrestling Sheet said that those under Lucha Underground contracts are making less than $4,000 a year compared to other wrestling promotions who offer a living wage. Fantasma claims to have lost thousands of dollars as a result of the contract, and is seeking both putative and actual damages.
Lucha Central talked to Fantasma’s attorney, Andre Verdun, who said that a class-action lawsuit was being worked on in addition to Fantasma’s suit. The site later reported that Kobra Moon, Joey Ryan, Fantasma and Ivelisse are the names attached to this specific suit.
The situation regarding Lucha Underground contracts has flared up in recent weeks, most notably when Ivelisse wrote a since-deleted statement on social media saying that she was “being legally held hostage” by the company after they wouldn’t release her from her contract following the end of the fourth season.
Lucha Underground hasn’t aired a new episode since November. The fate of the promotion and if it will continue for a fifth season is currently unknown.

AJ Styles - The former WWE Champion denied he had come to terms with WWE on a new deal on Twitter several days ago.  We are told the two sides have been in discussions for some time and that WWE has made a strong play to keep Styles.  Obviously, given Styles' relationships with The Young Bucks and others now in the All Elite Wrestling fold, one would think there is strong interest in acquiring him if he opts to leave WWE.

The Usos - It's  been told by multiple sources that the duo's current deals are slated to expire in April. WWE has been in discussions with the former Tag Team Champions about a new deal.

Dolph Ziggler -  many news sources have been told that the company's "relationship" with Ziggler is continuing.

The NWA is partnering with ROH for the Crockett Cup. It's taking place at Cabarrus Arena in Concord, North Carolina on Saturday, April 27.

Gee, Not THIS again (rolls eyes)- WWE ADVERTISING 'INTERNATIONAL SUPERSTAR SHAKEUP' FOR APRIL

Didn't they JUST DO THIS, acouple months ago? So much for that 'big announcement' that things would be different. The BIG ANNOUNCEMENT translates into what you see here, nothing changes because nothing really is gonna change, LOL. Just go back to the old reliable, yet predictable things that really don't 'shake up' a fucking thing.

The next Superstar Shakeup seems to have a date.
promo that aired in Canada during Raw last night showed Scott Stanford announcing an ‘International Superstar Shakeup’ that would take place on April 15 and 16 at the Bell Centre in Montreal. The significance of the world ‘international’ wasn’t explained.
The Superstar Shakeup replaced the WWE Draft last year as a way to move Raw wrestlers to SmackDown and vice versa. Whereas the WWE Draft had more formal rules regarding draft picks and trades, the Superstar Shakeup is more vague in the way Raw and SmackDown talent are traded. Last year’s notable jumps included The Miz, Baron Corbin and The Riott Squad to Raw while Asuka, Samoa Joe and Jeff Hardy went to SmackDown.
NXT stars are also included in the Shakeup: Sanity and Andrade went to SmackDown while Drew McIntyre went to Raw.
A Intercontinental title match between champion Bobby Lashley and Seth Rollins was also announced for the Raw taping in Montreal.
