Randy Orton: WWE NXT wrestlers aren't being taught to protect their opponents

I bet the coaches and teachers at the Performance Center are going to love hearing this. I wonder what Vince McMahon will think when he sees this.
Randy Orton was a guest on Thursday's Pat McAfee Show and talked about difficulties working with wrestlers from NXT.
Orton noted that Edge's return has been refreshing for him because many of today's performers are not as focused on protecting their opponent.
"There's an art to what we do and a lot of guys have lost that art," Orton said.
"When Vince (McMahon) was on, he talked about your number one priority, above all, being protecting your opponent. That's not taught, necessarily, in NXT. I know that because I've been in the ring with guys that came from NXT and they don't what the f**k they're doing. It's unfortunate, but that is just how things are changing."
He then spoke about how working with Edge allows him to tell a story in the ring.
"I can trust this guy. I can give this guy my body in this ring and tell this story and I don't have to, in the back of my head, worry about him only being concerned with looking cool in that ring and hitting the f**k out of me and taking my head off."
"[Edge] made me realize that I can go 45 minutes with a guy that knows what the f**k he's doing," Orton continued. "Where are these other guys that know what f**k they're doing?"
Where are they? They were let go because of "budget cuts", LMAO.
So go ask your boss Vince McMahon where they're at?
I bet you won't.

Kurt Angle On The Fundamental Aspect Of Wrestling Receding
In an interview with SHAK Wrestling, Kurt Angle bemoaned the lack of wrestling in the current wrestling landscape, saying it was more about spots now.
“It’s receded because a lot of these athletes now just do a bunch of spots,” Angle said. “Nothing really makes sense. It’s more of a spot fest. They go out there and do these impressive things, a couple flips over the top rope onto the floor, you know? Things that don’t tell a story, you know? Psychology is the most important thing in wrestling and you want to have great psychology and a good storyline. A good story is babyface versus heel.
“The babyface shines on the heel, the heel sells, the heel cheats, gets the babyface face down, gets heat on the heel, or the heel gets heat on the babyface. The babyface makes a big comeback, you have the false finishes, and then the finish. So if you have that certain psychology in wrestling, you’re going to get it right every time as long as you do that. But a lot of these matches now, there’s no baby and no heel. It’s just two athletes going at it and I think that’s where we lost a little bit of our psychology.”
That being said, Kurt Angle also admitted that a lot of pro wrestling doesn’t make sense and hasn’t made sense to him since the beginning. In particular, he pointed out how many wrestling moves don’t actually hurt and would be ineffective in a real fight.
“There are a lot of moves that don’t really hurt,” Angle said. “I mean the most popular finish of all time, the Stone Cold Stunner, it doesn’t knock you out. Honestly, there are a lot of moves that if you’re a real fighter, a real MMA fighter and you’ve never watched pro wrestling and you start watching it, you’re going to go ‘what the hell is this?’
"I’ll give you an example. When the heel gets the babyface down, the heels get heat on the face, makes a comeback, starts fighting, making a comeback, and then he stops, runs the other way, hits the ropes, and comes back to the heel. Why would you run away from the heel when you’re beating him up already? So there are a lot of things in pro wrestling that if you’re a real MMA fighter and you never saw pro wrestling, you’re not going to understand. You’re going to think it’s stupid.”
On the subject of moves that didn’t make sense, Kurt Angle revealed one sequence that vexed him from the moment he started wrestling.
“A spot where somebody is running ropes and someone leapfrogs,” Angle said. “Why would you, if you leapfrog somebody, somebody steps over, you’re going to stop and catch them and slam them. But there are things in pro wrestling when I first started, I didn’t understand. I was like ‘that makes no sense. I don’t understand why they would do a leapfrog or, if you tackled somebody and you got him down and then the guy hits the ropes and it allows you to get back up again.’ I didn’t understand that. It just didn’t make any sense to me.”

Mark Stunt's AEW Contract Not Being Renewed Because Of "Budget Cuts", How "WWE" Is That? LMAO
The more Tony Khan and AEW claimed they were going top be the 'alternative' to WWE, the more? They act and do EXACTLY the kind of things that straight out of the WWE playbook.
Marko Stunt received a phone call from Christopher Daniels last week, representing AEW Talent Relations, and was informed that the company would not be renewing his contract. Daniels’ cited budget cuts and a large roster as the reason Stunt’s contract is not being renewed.
Daniels also reportedly mentioned that creative plans had changed for the Jurassic Express stable. Stunt had been appearing with AEW World Tag Team Champions Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus in the three-man stable, but he was not used for their big title win earlier this year, and that was seen as a bad sign for Stunt’s future. Stunt was also not included in recent Jurassic Express merchandise designs.
It was also revealed in this new report that Stunt suffered a concussion in October. He was not booked or given a reason why, but he did make an effort to reach out to the company to get booked in hopes of proving himself for a contract renewal.
It was also noted that the split between the two sides was amicable, and Stunt’s conversation with Daniels went well.
I find it funny that Daniels decided to hide behind the VERY SAME excuse that WWE uses when they fire dozens of people at a time.

Husband vs. Wife in a Dirty Dishes Match has been announced for WrestleCon’s Mark Hitchcock Memorial SuperShow. WrestleCon has announced that John Morrison (billed as Johnny WrestleCon) will take on his wife Taya Valkyrie in a Dirty Dishes Match at Thursday’s event.
“We are always happy to help settle a simple marital disagreement. The final Match announcement for the Mark Hitchcock Memorial Supershow is @thetayavalkyrie v Johnny Wrestlecon @TheRealMorrison,” WrestleCon wrote.
There’s no word yet on what the match will consist of. Morrison tweeted on the bout and indicated that the loser will have to wash the dishes for life.
“Ok you want it? You got it [smiling face with horns emoji] how bout the loser does the winners dishes for life?!? You know how much I respect your skills in the ring… which means I’m not gonna take it easy on you. Soon as that bell rings you go from being my wife to my opponent [smiling face with sunglasses emoji] Thursday 3/21/22 9pm,” Morrison wrote.
Valkyrie responded, “[rolling eyes emoji] lol sure thing, opponents. You said it. Just remember babe, I’m fluent in intergender matches. I’ve had more intergender matches than you’ve had title reigns….by a lot!!!! Hahahah”
Eight matches have now been announced for the SuperShow at WrestleCon, which will take place this Thursday at 9pm local time inside the Fairmont Dallas Hotel. WrestleCon has announced a $5,000 bonus reward for the best match on the show, to be voted on by fans in attendance.

How Ring Names Are Decided For New WWE Talents
Former WWE NXT Associate Producer Ryan Katz saw many talents come and go during his years working at the WWE Performance Center. While some were able to keep the ring names they used before arriving in WWE, most had to come up with a new name. During a recent interview on the Handsome Genius Club Radio Show, Katz explained what goes into the renaming process.
“Ready? Here’s the secret,” Katz said. “The talent are in on the names. They’re in on them. Like, there may be some people who get a list and have to pick something from it, but I would say a lot of times if that’s happening then I can’t say the talent’s not given, because there are times where talent may submit a lot of names and then there becomes a mix and match game and things that happen. But in the end, the talent is involved in that decision.
“Like, it is not – no one is just given a random gimmick. And maybe I shouldn’t say no one because, of course, there is going to be an exception to the rule and someone has been given a gimmick. But like, the talent is involved in creating their gimmick and that’s what I talked out with being undeniable is that those talent that show who they are and they express who they are and what they want to be will be that.
“When you’re trying to figure out a gimmick and presenting it, ‘What do you think of this?’ Then they’re going to be like, ‘Well, I don’t really like it.’ But if it’s like, ‘I’m doing this.’ Then it’s like, ‘Well, yeah. Let’s see what you got.’ Confidence is king.”
Some ring names assigned to talents in WWE’s developmental system may sound unusual to fans. Katz feels, in the end, the name is less important than what the individual does with the character they are portraying.
“I’m actually a fan of weird names,” Katz explained. “I like goofy things. I like things that just stick out and I don’t even mind cartoony names because I’m a firm believer that the talent makes the name, the name doesn’t make the talent whether you have a bland name, whether you have a cartoony name, whether you have the coolest name in the world. If you’re not cool talent, that cool name doesn’t mean anything.”
Katz recalled one talent who pitched a unique name for himself but it did not win over the backstage officials at NXT.
“There was a wrestler pitched who wanted the name Diggs or it might’ve been Dig,” Katz recalled. “Dig, Diggs. It was one of the two and it was hated. Hand across the world. The room just, no one was going to buy into that. Like, I dug it. I thought it was kind of cool. Like, ‘Well, who’s name is Dig?’ It’s like, ‘No one. That guy. That guy’s parents called him Dig,’ and that kind of helps, to me, form an identity. That guy grew up, to me, those things help make characters.”

It's Tuesday! That means "Alive" is back with a brand-new episode featuring action from "Secret Treasure" in Port St. Lucie! Tonight, you'll get to see the "South American Alliance" defend their Tag Team Championship as well as Women's Championship action when Marina and KiLynn lock horns again! Get strapped in! TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS Coming into this match on the "Treasure Coast", it was assumed that the team of Bruce Worley and Kona Crush were operating under the guise of Lew Spectre's "Resident Scumbags". However, Spectre was nowhere to be found at ringside during the match. It doesn't mean that Worley and the son of original "Crush" Bryan Adams weren't ready to give Vinicious and Ariel Levy one hell of a fight - with or without Lew's meddling! It's becoming more and more clear that it will take a HUGE moment to knock the "S.A.A." off of their perch. Without a doubt the most defending CCW Tag Team Champions of all time, the team never stops putting their titles on the line week in and week out. Tonight, the massive Worley and Kona Crush will be looking to finally put the brakes on Bill Alfonso's dominant tandem! MARINA'S REMATCH Since KiLynn King won the CCW Women's Championship against Marina Tucker, the "Detroit Barbie" hasn't exactly been the cheeriest member of the locker room. Marina demanded her rematch right away, but as studied fans know, "The Last Territory" doesn't always guarantee a rematch! During "Bash 13" she was tasked with overcoming the debuting Shalonce Royal. The longtime queen of CCW was able to overcome the "Fighting Siren", which officially set up the rematch you will see here. KiLynn King has become a belt collector of sorts, running through quite a few independent promotions. The incredibly promising young talent has her vice grip on Coastal Championship Wrestling's women's division at the moment, but no doubt the former throne holder is going to do anything she can to reclaim her seat.
