The Big Show Talks Lack Of Psychology In Today's WWE

As one of the few holdovers from the Attitude Era, Big Show remembers a time where in-ring psychology was the most important thing in the wrestling business. In a recent interview on Busted Open Radio, the future WWE Hall of Famer discussed some of the differences between today's era and the company's golden age.
The Attitude Era was defined by the high-quality storylines and rivalries that were featured from the bottom of the card all the way up to the main event. Big Show noted that there was more motivation for lower-card superstars back then because they had to fight to get equal pay as main-event superstars. He feels today's wrestlers aren't as driven to improve their status on the card.
"It was a different time back then. You have to figure, I think our business was more competitive back then because where you were on the card had a direct relation to how much money that you made so it was a shoot in respect of, if you were the champion, if you were a tag champion, if you were working towards the latter-end of the card you made more money so yeah, if there were guys that were working after you towards the end of the card making more money than you, yeah, you didn't like them," Big Show said. "You were pissed off at them, it wasn't the whole everybody gets along, you know what I mean? You had an opportunity and you had to get an angle to go over to be able to work live events to get a better position on live events to make more money. I think the biggest thing that bothers me in today's wrestling is that everybody is too nice to each other. They are all way too nice. It is all too chummy, chummy."
A common criticism of today's era is the lack of storytelling and in-ring psychology. Most of today's product features random matches that have no story behind them, and thus they become a back-and-forth of each wrestlers move-set before someone gets a finish. Big Show thinks there is still a large portion of the wrestling audience that prefers to have more storytelling.
"Today, it feels like you do your stuff, I'll do my stuff, and you do your stuff. Zero to hero, hero to zero. I get it: maybe the audience has changed. Maybe it is more action-packed. Maybe people don't want drama, which I disagree that people don't want the drama," he said. "I think they do want the drama, and when you give people the time of when something is done right, people get into it. They get a chance to absorb it, but when it is one move after another move and nobody isn't selling anything and doesn't mean anything and if it doesn't mean anything why are you doing it? Don't throw 50 punches when 2 will do."
Big Show said he wishes today's superstars were more motivated to make a name for themselves. He said there is more opportunity in the business than ever, but wrestlers aren't taking advantage of it.
"Maybe today's product has changed, but I just can't put my finger on it yet. There's never been a better time in my opinion to be a WWE superstar as a wrestling entertainer. You have so much worldwide access and exposure that we never had when we first started. I mean, I can remember being a WCW world champion and then when I went to WWE we went on a tour to Germany and they had no idea who I was, you know what I mean? I was starting all over again," he said. "Now, because of social media, because of all the websites, because of Busted Open Radio people have more exposure. People know more about the product and learning about the superstars so there is a chance to distinguish yourself from the rest. I think that is my point is with all of this opportunity I am begging some of these younger guys to distinguish themselves from everybody else."

Get A Load of This Bullshit- WWE Reportedly Has Right To Purchase UK Indie Promotions Under New Working Agreements

As I noted, restrictions were recently placed on several of the contracted WWE NXT UK Superstars that will decide which indie promotions they can work for beginning in 2019. Talents will be barred from working for most indie companies in Europe, except for WWE partners ICW, PROGRESS Wrestling and wXw (Germany).
Regarding WWE's working agreements with some of these promotions in the UK, The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that part of the agreements originally offered & accepted included rights for WWE to purchase the companies if they want to.
WWE would reportedly have the rights, for the next several years if they choose, to purchase the indie promotions for an agreed upon price, which was in the high six-figures in at least some cases. WWE would then be able to shut the promotion down so they would no longer be "competing with themselves" with the idea that the transaction would take place when WWE was up to running full-time schedules in those same markets.
There's no word on other terms of these agreements or what the reactions were to these purchase rights but it could make for a fucked up situation in some cases for some of these companies, and the people who work for them that aren't contracted, by WWE.

Impact Wrestling Notes

While Impact is speaking to other TV outlets, there is no end date to their current run on Pop.  Their deal with the cable network ends officially on 12/31 but all sides will continue to work together beyond that point as Impact looks for another broadcast home in the United States.

During a media call yesterday, Josh Mathews declined to comment on the search, noting that the problem in the past was concern about whether Impact would still be around and now everyone is past that point, likely referring to Anthem taking over ownership.  He said everyone would find out together what the next step was.

Santana of LAX, in responding to a fan query about being pulled from the EVOLVE events that would have seen LAX face off with NXT starts The Street Profits, commented on Twitter, "In a perfect world. It would’ve definitely been cool, especially for the fans. But wrestling has proven to us once again that there’s still much more work that needs to be done, in order for all of us us to truly enjoy the endless possibilities."

Sapolsky Shouldn't Have Even been Doing This To begin With- EVOLVE STATEMENT ON LAX, WILL NO LONGER BOOK IMPACT CONTRACTED TALENT

How stupid is Gabe Sapolsky? You own an indy company that's well known for having a working agreement with the WWE, plus YOU'RE an employee of? The WWE, so only a fucking moron would think he could book talent from another major company to be on a show that's featuring talent from the very company you have a working relationship with and get away with it. Obviously? Sapolsky, is a fucking moron.

Here's the Statement for all to read.

In response to LAX being pulled from their events next month in New York City, EVOLVE issued the following statement:
We are sorry to inform you that Impact Wrestling has pulled LAX off the upcoming EVOLVE dates.

EVOLVE officials were contacted by LAX and informed that they were needed for something else that weekend. No other explanation was given. Impact Wrestling didn't contact EVOLVE officials and left it up to LAX.
There is no heat on LAX as WWN understands the situation they were put in. EVOLVE officials had told LAX that the plan was to have matches with The Street Profits that weekend. EVOLVE was informed that LAX would not be able to lose in those matches.

In order to avoid any political issues, EVOLVE made one night a triple threat match and the other night a six man tag. This would give the fans the LAX vs. Street Profits matches they wanted, while protecting all parties politically.

Unfortunately, Impact Wrestling waited until the matches were announced and then pulled the talent the next day. This all could have easily been avoided by not allowing LAX to take the dates in the first place.

EVOLVE will no longer consider booking Impact Wrestling contracted talent moving forward.

EVOLVE officials are currently working on a replacement and will have news early next week. We apologize for the lineup change, but assure you that EVOLVE will produce something special on for EVOLVE 117 December 15th in Queens, NY and EVOLVE 118 on December 16th in Deer Park, NY.

MLW TO AIR FIRST LIVE SPECIAL ON BEIN SPORTS

MLW will be presenting its first-ever live television special in December.
It was announced today that "MLW Fusion Live" will air on beIN Sports at 8 p.m. Eastern time on Friday, December 14. The show is taking place at the Scottish Rite Temple in Miami, Florida as part of MLW's night of tapings. The venue is also hosting MLW tapings on December 13.
For the live Fusion episode, MLW is promoting a double main event of Rush vs. Rich Swann and a five-way ladder match with Middleweight Champion MJF (Maxwell Jacob Friedman) defending against Andrew Everett, Dezmond Xavier, Kotto Brazil, and Jason Cade. If MJF isn't cleared to compete in time due to his fractured elbow, the title will be vacated and it will be a four-way match to decide the new champion.
Dragon Lee vs. DJZ and appearances by Low Ki, “Filthy” Tom Lawlor, Salina de la Renta, the Hart Foundation (Teddy Hart, Davey Boy Smith Jr. & Brian Pillman Jr.), Tommy Dreamer, and more are also advertised for the special.
“There is an energy and sense of expectation to live TV, and with only one or two other companies on live, it puts us in rarified air,” MLW's Court Bauer told Sports Illustrated. “We have now exceeded every milestone we had mapped out in our business plan within our first 13 months of operation. Once again, we now find ourselves in unchartered territory, but it’s very exciting.”
Bauer also noted that there are more live specials in place for 2019.

Update On Silas Young's ROH Future

Young's contract was set to expire at the end of the year and he seemed open to signing with WWE.The two-time TV champion Silas Young is expected to sign a new three-year deal. He was at the Nov. 26 Raw show in Milwaukee, Wisconsin however it's been noted that Young was only there because his son is a big WWE fan and wanted to attend. Young is also from Wisconsin and was born just outside of Milwaukee.

If Young does indeed sign a three-year deal with ROH, then this could signal the end of his flirtation with WWE. He is turning 40 years old soon and WWE has been trending younger in recent years.

Thanks To Jim Ross.. What I said About ProWrestling.Net Is Indeed True (They Got Checked By me)

A few weeks ago I posted a story on how i corrected ProWrestling.Net on a story they ran claiming Jim Ross was part of a wrestling promotion that Cody Rhodes and The Young Bucks were forming. Here's the links to these two stories where i put Jason Powell of ProWrestling.net in his place correcting him on this fact. https://billsbrandnewblog.blogspot.com/2018/10/jim-ross-addresses-rumors-that-hes.html and https://billsbrandnewblog.blogspot.com/2018/10/i-get-to-further-put-someone-at.html and oh yes let's not forget this link either. https://billsbrandnewblog.blogspot.com/2018/10/further-fun-putting-someone-at.html

So now.. To further the point that I knew i was right all along and that Mr. Powell at ProWrestling.Net was incorrect (and has yet to even try, and correct himself on this) There's this bit of news, straight again? From the mouth of Jim Ross. So maybe som eone should tell proWrestling.Net that it's time to post that they were wrong and i was right, that is... if they even have them kind of balls (I doubt it).

The talk around the wrestling world is the rumored new promotion that Cody Rhodes and The Young Bucks are trying to launch. Every day it seems there is a new name attached to this promotion which doesn't even exist yet, and Jim Ross has frequently been mentioned as part of it.
On the latest edition of his podcast, Ross addressed those rumors head-on and made it clear that he's not in business with Cody or anybody at this time.
"[We are] assuming one or two things in my opinion," Ross said about the rumored promotion. "It's either going to never happen because a TV deal could not be acquired or the TV deal is going to be finalized and it's going to be big… Feast or famine.
"The trademark thing with the Khan Family obviously got everyone's sensor stirred up again... Two things you have to have to start a wrestling company: Television…Talent. In that order."
Ross then says that the promotion would need a major TV contract and not something like ImpactWrestling has with Pop TV. If they can't obtain that, then they don't need any talent.
"If they don't get TV, there is no company," stated Ross. "I've been rumored to be in every role of this company, and I swear to God it's eye-rolling. At one point it's [Chris] Jericho and me, which I thought was really stupid. Me and Jericho are going to spend all of the money we've made over the years to get into the wrestling business? Are you crazy? Are you nuts?
"Then it's we're not involved at all and it's these other guys who are the movers and shakers...There ain't nothing to move here, folks. There ain't nothing to shake."
Everything to this point has just been speculation about the company and Ross says dominoes will really start to fall come 2019.
"I think activity, whether good, bad or indifferent, will escalate in the new year," said Ross. "TV networks are already in the decision-making mode because I know those talks have been ongoing. But I'm not in that loop. I'm not pitching to anybody. I don't have a job. I don't work for them… at this point in time.
"It's either not going to happen because the best TV situation could not be earned, or it's going to be big."
The Khan Family that Ross referenced owns the Jacksonville Jaguars of the NFL and Fulham F.C. of the EPL. They are billionaires and Ross says that they aren't going to want anything less than a top-notch product.
"If it happens I can't imagine the Khan Family is going to want to have a show that looks like a lesser quality-looking show than WWE," stated Ross.

Chris Jericho Reveals Who He'd Rather Wrestle Besides Tetsuya Naito

Chris Jericho recently spoke with New Japan Pro-Wrestling about who he'd face at Wrestle Kingdom 13 if given the choice, about whether he prefers working arenas or stadiums, and if EVILreminds him of any WWE superstars. Here are some highlights:
Preferring an arena to a stadium:
"The Tokyo Dome is such a giant animal, it's hard to control because even if you have the crowd's attention and they are responding how you want them to respond and doing what you want them to do; the sound travels up into the rafters. Whereas, last night in a venue like the EDION, the sound travels down. That makes a difference. You can feel the difference; the electricity is so much better. There's pros and cons to wrestling in every venue, whether it's the Tokyo Dome or Club Citta down in Tokyo. Every show has a different vibe, every show has a different crowd."
If EVIL reminds him of any WWE Superstars:
"I don't rate and think of performers that way, everyone is unique and different. If you say 'Oh EVIL's like this guy, or that guy' then it's usually not a good thing. I think he's got a great character. Obviously, it's a little bit of an Undertaker theme, but it's an original take on that. In the ring, I don't know ... it's hard to compare ... He's a very Strong-Style type of wrestler, but he's fast. I just really think that if you put him in comparison with Okada, Kenny, or Tanahashi; he's different from those guys and I think that's one of the reasons he has a chance to be a real top guy in NJPW because he's unique, but he's very good. He's a very skilled wrestler; he has an exciting Strong Style, he's kind of a throwback to Nagata and Choshu, that sort of style. He's not really a high-flyer, but he can do anything that he needs to do to stand out. He's a unique performer."
Who he'd rather face than going against Tetsuya Naito again at Wrestle Kingdom 13:
"Why does Naito get a re-match? Why? What does he do? He beat Zack Sabre Jr. You know, ZSJ is a great technical wrestler, but I can break him in two like a branch. I beat Naito. I beat EVIL. To me, you don't just get to have a re-match just because you say so. When I lost the WWE title to John Cena, I didn't just come back the next day and say, 'I want a re-match,' it doesn't work that way.
"I don't care what NJPW says, I don't care what the NJPW officials say, I don't care what Harold Meij says – there's not going to be a re-match! If they want to try to make the match, I'm not approving it and I'm not agreeing to it. Hey, Naito's amazing, he's one of the best wrestlers in NJPW but I already beat him, so now you have to think of other matches that Chris Jericho can have, maybe versus Suzuki or Ibushi or Okada. Tanahashi even. These are the guys I'm looking at."

ALL CHARGES DROPPED AGAINST JOEY MERCURY

Charges against former WWE star and Ring of Honor Producer Adam Carlson Birch aka Joey Mercury in one of the cases against him were dropped yesterday in Orange County Court in Florida with all signs being that charges in the second case will be dropped shortly as well.
In the case that was officially dropped on 11/26, Birch had been accused Identity Theft, Conspiracy to commit credit card fraud over $300, Use or Possession of Personal Identification Information and Petit Theft.  There were allegations that Birch was "observed using" the victim's credit card at Footaction (a footwear outlet) and then at Champs (a clothing outlet), directly next door to Foot Action on 5/7.   Birch’s attorney filed a 26-page response to the allegations on 10/3, informing the court that Birch was out of the country in Germany and Great Britain from 5/1 through 5/8, providing copies of his passport stamps, bank transactions, fight and hotel itineraries.  His attorney intends to argue that since Birch was not in the country, there is not way he could be responsible for crimes in the United States on 5/7.   Birch’s attorney, to back their claim, submitted a poster for an appearance for Westside Xtreme Wrestling as well as social media response to a training camp he took part in.
n a filing yesterday, Assistant District Attorney Mark Daniel Wixtrom wrote that Birch's case "is not suitable for prosecution."  The charges were then dropped.
The other case is still technically active, although there was also a filing on 11/26 noting the prosection was filing "Nolle Prosequi", which is a Latin term meaning "will no longer prosecute."  While the case has not been officially dropped, all signs are that it will be shortly.
In the second case, Birch was accused of allegedly using a credit card belonging to the victim to acquire $300 around 4/28.   This has resulted in charges being filed against Birch for Fraudulent Use or Possession of Personal Identification Information, Fraudulent Use of a Credit Card to obtain more than $100 in value, Grand Theft Third Degree and Petit theft.
Birch had been taken into custody on the morning of 8/31 by The Schaumburg Police Department.  The Schaumburg Police Department told PWInsider.com that they “had contact” with Birch at 6:58 AM outside of 50 North Martindale Road, which is the address of The Marriott Schaumburg.  PWInsider.com was told at the time that authorities were notified of Birch sleeping in his car outside the hotel.  They approached Birch and after running his personal information, discovered he was wanted on an outstanding warrant in Orange County, Florida and was taken into custody.   While Birch was not charged by The Schaumburg Police Department, he was still taken into custody at the Cook County Department of Corrections, which resulted in Birch being extradited back to Florida on 9/25.
Birch has had a long run the business, debuting in 1996 when he was just 15 years old.  As Joey Matthews, he had runs in the original ECW, Ring of Honor and a slew of independent promotions up and down the Eastern seaboard before being signed by WWE in 2002.
As Joey Mercury, he and John Morrison created a great act alongside Melina as MNM in Ohio Valley Wrestling before being called up to the main roster and capturing the WWE Tag Team Championship.  Birch was released from the company in 2007.  He returned in 2010 as a member of CM Punk’s Straight Edge Society and after that role ran its course, began working behind the scenes as a producer for WWE.    In a documentary WWE released about Punk, Birch spoke about how he was about to lose his home due to financial issues in the wake of his 2007 release, leading to Punk offering to pay to buy his house and save it.  At the time, he said he considered Punk his best friend.
After his 2010 return, Birch rose in power within WWE.  Long considered one of the better creative minds in the business when it came to putting together matches and finishes, Birch became one of the top lieutenants to Triple H and was instrumental in evolving WWE developmental from FCW into WWE NXT as well as the launch of the WWE Performance Center.
As Mercury, Birch returned to WWE TV as one half of J&J Security, alongside Jamie Noble, working as bodyguards for Seth Rollins, a heel at the time.  He split his time with that o camera role and his behind the scenes responsibilities until he was pulled from the road during an NXT European tour.  Birch was let go by WWE in March 2017.   By the Fall of that year, he was back wrestling on the independent scene and working as a trainer.  He made regular appearances for House of Hardcore as a heel, feuding with Tommy Dreamer, which brought him back into some prominence.
In May 2018, Birch was signed by ROH to work as a trainer at their ROH Academy in Maryland and work as a top producer for the company.

DJ Z TO MAKE MLW DEBUT

I Told A Few People Yesterday This Might Happen- LAX PULLED FROM EVOLVE EVENTS

And what do you know? I was correct. I said someone was going to have them pulled because having talent from Impact Wrestling on a show that has a working agreement with WWE and has NXT talent on it as well? Wasn't gonna happen. Something was gonna give on this and well, here it is. I know a few people are sucking down their ego because they now know i was right, again.

Gabe Sapolsky just announced that Impact Wrestling has made the decision to pull LAX from their announced booking for EVOLVE in NYC on 12/15 and 12/16, where they were slated to work with WWE NXT talents in main event bouts.   Sapolsky wrote on Twitter:

CWE Statement on Brutus Beefcake Fiasco

Did Gabe Sapolsky Owner of EVOLVE (and current employee of WWE) Really Say, THIS!?

Yes he did and now let's break it down.

The above shot you see I caught floating around Twitter last night. I find it funny that Gabe Sapolsky, owner of EVOLVE Wrestling, AND.. Current employee for the WWE posted this (and from what I've heard, has quickly deleted it as well). The fact is, indy wrestlers DO travel that long almost every weekend for a payoff like that, if they're even lucky to get 'that' for a payoff. They want the work, they want the exposure, the experience of working in front of a live crowd, working for different promotions, etc. It's been this way for years.

I know this for a fact from when I worked for a group called the Eastern Wrestling Alliance (when they were based in Maine), guys from Rhode Island drove from there to Lewiston, Maine. And visa versa when the Maine guys went to work shows in Rhode Island. I can go to Youtube right now, post links from shows and point out who drove several hours from where. I even saw acouple guys drive up from the southern part of Mass. To Farmington, Maine in hopes of 'maybe', getting booked on a show if there was a spot open, someone no showed, whatever. The point is Gabe says this shouldn't be happening but it's been happening for years and years and still is happening to this very day. Trying to drop WWE's name into it doesn't help or work either because WWE has had a long habit of just snatching up talent, refusing to let them finish off their indy dates, and since the story broke yesterday, prohibits them (again) from working for other indy promotions. Yanking them off their finished dates and pretty much fucking over those promoters who had long range plans in place. OR, don't even have a chance to at LEAST, close out whatever story line that talent was involved in in said promotion.

Maybe Gabe has forgotten about what a lot of State Boxing and Wrestling Commissions require when it comes to an indy promoter putting on a show. I know about this from the fact I locally promoted shows in NH for two different indy promotions, as well as asked about regulations in Maine. Like the Paramedic required part of Gabe's post. Sometimes it's a State Boxing And Wrestling Commission requirement, or in the case of Rochester, NH where I locally promoted two shows for WWA New England, it was a “City” requirement. Rochester, NH is known as a 'permit town', you have to get a permit from the city in order to promote a wrestling show there. Which means going thru a long ordeal of getting your proposal on the City Council's agenda for their next meeting, HOPING, they approve it and then going thru the city management committee which is the Fire chief, Police chief and the city manager. They required either a paramedic or a licensed EMT to be on hand. I must be a lucky one because one of the guys who was helping me set chairs, tables, ring, etc up was what? A Licensed EMT. I was able to meet the requirement with Dave but only after going thru yet another process of bringing copies of Dave's drivers license and EMT license to the city manager's office who was giving me this skeptical look when I said “Call the fire chief, he knows who Dave is”. He didn't have to because the Fire Chief was walking by the city manager's office, saw me and walked in to ask how the show idea was progressing. I pointed at the city manager and said “I think he's looking for another reason to give me hurdles to hop”. I explained the situation and the Chief saw Dave's driver's license and said “He works for AMR and I saw him at an accident two days ago” So the fire chief helped get Dave approved.

While Rochester required the EMT or Paramedic, Manchester NH didn't but Dave being there on a Sousa Show months before this Rochester show came in handy as you see by the shot I posted, which comes from this article I wrote for a long forgotten web page I don't utilize anymore. http://prowrestlingmemories.angelfire.com/beingaplant.html so it's sometimes a city or sometimes a state commission thing, something I guess Gabe who is an owner of an indy company, seems to have forgotten. Maybe he should research the towns he runs EVOLVE in and find out what the requirements really are. OOOOHH what a concept, eh?

Now trying to drop WWE's name and attempt to be sarcastic on it with his “They Are Evil” crack isn't getting him over at all. Because look at what the WWE is doing now with the restrictions on wrestlers they signed in the UK. FIRST they say there's no restrictions but NOW, as the news broke yesterday, WWE is again (or still) going back on their word (like they haven't done THAT before). Locking up talents from appearing on other indy shows when their own NXT house shows in the UK weren't sell outs shows that WWE aren't really thinking their UK plan thru very well. But pulling talents from their upcoming indy dates not only fucks over the wrestlers themselves, it fucks over the fans who bought tickets to see those advertised talents, AND it fucks over the promoters who have had ongoing story lines going with these talents.

But hey, Sapolsky doesn't have to worry about that because HIS promotion EVOLVE has a working agreement with WWE and, Gabe gets a paycheck as well from the WWE. So I guess it's easy for him to make these little flimsy claims, huh.

Previously the NXT UK Superstars were only restricted from other promotions with distribution deals, but now they will be barred from all other promotions. The only exceptions are those companies that WWE had partnered with including Progress, EVOLVE, ICW and wXw (Germany).

But what about the other promoters who are now getting shit on because of this? What about the fans who paid their money for tickets to see these talents that are getting yanked, and especially, what about the talents themselves? Not only do they get whatever payoff for appearing on the show but what about extra money they make from merchandising their t-shirts, pictures, dvds, etc? Are these 'big money deals' (cough cough) the WWE has given good enough to offset whatever losses these talents will experience because of being pulled off dates they agreed to appear on? Seeing how WWE's UK shows were disappointing attendance wise it makes you wonder why these talents are thinking about all this.

Of course Gabe Sapolsky doesn't have to think about it because he's getting two paychecks. From his own company and WWE, which again I say why it must be real easy for him to make little snide statements like the one that's posted at the beginning of this article. He tries to toe a WWE company line but seconds later deletes the post? why has he deleted it? What's he so afraid of that he had to quickly delete the post? If you meant it then stand by it. Make up your mind, is it that much of a challenge for him to do so?

Maybe in the end when it comes to things like this, it might be in Mr. Sapolsky's best interests to just.. Shut the fuck up.
