The first singles match between AJ Styles and Seth Rollins did not occur within the confines of a WWE ring. It took place in 2006 in a school gymnasium. Seth Rollins was known as Tyler Black at this point and was only 1.5 years into his career. This was a dream match for independent wrestling fans and a singles match between the two would not occur again for another 13 years!
AJ Styles was signed to TNA and was a prominent member of the roster, some would even consider him the face of TNA at this point of his career. Tyler Black was considered the hometown hero for No Limits Wrestling, with the majority of their shows being held in Iowa.
