n the wake of Disney firing Guardians of the Galaxy writer and director James Gunn after old Tweets featuring beyond tasteless material (which Gunn had previously apologized for years before) were unearthed, former WWE star Dave Bautista has been at the forefront of rallying behind Gunn.
When asked by a fan on Twitter whether he would be returning to the franchise, Bautista lobbed some pretty heavy bombs at Disney:
I will do what Im legally obligated to do but @Guardians without @JamesGunn is not what I signed up for. GOTG w/o @JamesGunn just isn’t GOTG. Its also pretty nauseating to work for someone who’d empower a smear campaign by fascists #cybernazis . That’s just how I feel https://t.co/Ym4FwruVDu— Dave Bautista (@DaveBautista) August 5, 2018
Bautista and the entire cast of Guardians of the Galaxy have already publicly released a letter of support for Gunn, pushing for his reinstatement.
Bautista has portrayed Drax in Gunn's two Guardians films as well as in the Avengers: Infinity War film. He has already completed work on the Infinity Wars sequel, due out next year. Guardians' third film is currently slated for 2020. Gunn had been writing the film when he was fired. Whether any of his work for the film is used remains to be seen.
